Who said that true sailing performance comes only with plain unfriendly interiors. The X-Yachts design superiority hides behind the vacuum infusion technology on the hull construction, the galvanized steel frame over the keel and the right weight distribution of all the fittings which let room -weight wise- to include all the necessary premium materials to create the feeling of a five star hotel, but this time on a board.

The 3 cabin layout,  with two generously sized WCs/showers on a 46ft yacht is delivering lots of space everywhere, making living on board a truly relaxing experience. Ideally this yacht will comfortably accommodate 6 adults but if wished can sleep another two persons in saloon area and another two children or agile adults at the aft removable sea berths (check Layout & Accommodation details below).

The well-proportioned saloon gives the yacht a spacious feel, but well positioned hand rails and good furniture placement ensure it is always safe and easy to move around no matter the heel angle.

Everything in the interior is a beautifully crafted in the known all time classic X-Yachts way.

The standard full teak bathing platform creates a perfect area for relaxing as well as easy access from the water or dinghy. In this way you can take full advantage of the swim stops or the overnight stays on one of the endless safe anchorages of the Greek archipelago.

The  cockpit space on board the X4⁶ is not only designed to be functional and safe while at sea but also creates a luxurious outdoor living space. The twin wheels and recessed mainsheet track ensuring that the cockpit area is spacious and uncluttered.

A deck shower is fitted as standard. The high back rests not only offer protection while at sea but also create a comfortable seating area on the fitted cockpit cushions

The X4⁶ incorporates 40yrs design experience of the Danish boat yard. A boat you feel sure to spend time on, even when the weather conditions are not ideal.

The vacuum infused epoxy, full sandwich hull saves important weight and it maximises strength and stiffness. All saved weight is used to increase the yachts’ stability enabling the crew to have a more relaxed time and to feel more safe and comfortable.

The galvanized steel frame is mounted to the inside of the hull and takes all the loads from the keel and mast. This keeps the yacht stiff, strong and safe. In the same aspect the lead bulb are encapsulated in a reinforced epoxy e-glass shell.

Sailing Performance, on Every Angle

Any boat can go well downwind with a decent sailplan and hull shape. The challenge for the Danish X-Yachts designers was how to achieve a big smile on the face of the skipper any time all directions of sailing are included in the route. And they did a pretty good job as you will realise from the first moments behind helm.

The x46 converts the Greek archipelago into a sailing arena waiting for you to explore and the Greek islands as your buoys. Easy you will consistently see two digit numbers in speed over ground when in broad reach with asymmetrical spinnaker and will be pointing incredibly high, with velocity-made-good unimaginable, compared to any other conventional yacht out there.

Flexible Sailplan, Easy to Handle

We have engineered the sailplan of all X4 6  to be a perfect match to the sailing characteristics of the hull, to the different uses for holidays or racing and to the local Greek conditions. So all boats are fitted with:

• Main sail, tri-radial design, with three reefs, handled by a single line reefing system
• 106% Jib, tri-radial design, sheeted to tracks, adjustable from cockpit.
• Stay sail, with inbuilt inner forestay (anti-torque luff) , for use when the wind picks up, very easy to set up or completely get it out of the way, even on the go when windy (optional)
• Asymmetrical spinnaker for light wind broad reaching, with a sleeve for easy dropping, even single handed (optional)
• Optionally a Code Zero, to get you going when close reaching in light wind conditions

Ultimate Sail Design

All X-Yachting tri-radial sails have been thoroughly engineered up to every small detail, in order to perfectly match the X-Yachts sailing philosophy and honour the true sailing performance of each boat separately. Countless hours of work have been dedicated locally in Greece, from our globally  recognised partners Quantum Sails and their talented sail designer and race winning sailor Pat Tahtatzis to design, test and execute this important challenge and the result is in one word: “Perfect!”

Accommodation

3 cabins / 2 wcs / sleeps 6 adults + 2 adults + 2 children.

The layout includes the master bow cabin with a double bed and an ensuite WC with shower, the aft starboard cabin with one more double bed and the aft port side cabin with split bed which can be converted (upon request during booking) to full size double bed. The aft head has an independent entry door from the saloon area so that it can be shared from both aft cabins.  So 6 adults can comfortably sleep without any compromise.

If the team is up for it, another two adults can sleep in the saloon area in the two sofas. Also in both aft cabins there are sea berths which we can install (as an option), on the sides over the main bed, where another two children or agile adults can sleep (one per sea berth). This feature is often used by couples with one child/teenager or so or young friends.

So in total there can sleep max 10 passengers on board which is also the max nominal capacity of the boat.

The hull design of the X-yachts X4⁶ follows the latest design philosophy which maximizes sailing performance. Designed to excel in all wind conditions due to a generous sail plan coupled to a high quality mast and rig, including discontinuous rod rigging as standard. X4⁶ hulls are built with X-Yachts' advanced technology, including vacuum epoxy infusion, and incorporating X-Yachts' famous steel keel grillage to securely hold the composite lead/iron keel in place for outstanding safety in all conditions.

Interior Craftsmanship:

The influence of clean Scandinavian design can be seen throughout the interior of the X4⁶ being both traditional but with a modern appearance. The Danish quality craftsmanship is of a very high standard with finely crafted details, and showcases carpentry at its very best. The wooden veneer will be Nordic Oak as standard, with other options on offer.

Natural Light and Fresh Air:

The toughened glass coach roof windows flood the interior with natural light. In addition to the large flush skylights, sections of the side windows are also open-able to provide excellent ventilation. Each aft cabin has an open-able port light in the cockpit and additionally an outboard facing opening in the coaming windows. Combined with the flush skylight, the aft cabins have optimal ventilation, a great benefit in warmer climates.

Flexible Aft Cabins:

The port aft cabin can be specified with an optional split berth, which can be easily converted between twin berths and a king sized double berth. Both aft cabins are offered with a high level freeboard shelve with stainless steel railing or a freeboard hung adjustable pipe-berth. Both aft cabins have large double wardrobes. This makes the X-yachts X4⁶ a perfect family cruising boat. 

Standard Layout:

In the standard version there are 3 double cabins. Both aft cabins can be supplied with X-Yachts free board hung pipe berths. The owners cabin has an en suite head compartment with adjacent shower unit as standard. Standard layout features a forward facing navigation station with full length sofa. Flexible layout and options mean more accommodations for family and friends to visit you while cruising the Bahamas.

The deck layout takes a combination of the features from both her siblings; a self-taking jib is standard, with sheet handled by one of the halyard winches, and a mainsheet track is recessed into the cockpit sole with an 8:1 purchase traveller control system. Mainsheets are lead up to winches that are within easy reach of the helmsman. Large Harken self-tailing winches are standard, and can optionally be electrified along with one of the halyard winches.

Agile Steering:

Each of the twin wheels is connected to its own quadrant with a completely independent wire system. This built in redundancy is an excellent safety feature and virtually removes the need for an emergency tiller. The high aspect ratio rudder is perfectly balanced to make the X-yachts X4⁶ agile and responsive.

Technical Installation:

The X-Yachts X4⁶ for sale by Forbes Horton Yachts comes standard with an ultra-modern common-rail Yanmar diesel engine delivering 57 hp, and can be upgraded to an 80 hp unit. The engine compartment is sound insulated to 'Super Yacht' specification, using a heavy 8mm solid rubber layer, 50mm of sound deadening rockwool and finally covered with a perforated aluminium plating. All openings are sealed to eliminate noise. The engine is delivered as standard with a 2 blade Flex-O-Fold propeller to minimise drag and maximise sailing performance.

She is more ‘cruising’ than X-Yachts’ Performance range but more ‘performance’ than its Cruising range, so who is she for? Graham Snook takes her sailing to find out

What’s she like to sail?

The X4 is a dangerously fun boat to sail. She is so engaging and enjoyable to helm that it’s easy to forget about the constraints of things like draught – as I did. I could of course blame the position of the chartplotters on the binnacle in front of each wheel – which were only really visible if standing behind the wheel – or I could just admit the truth, I was totally absorbed in the X4 and loved the feel from the Solimar steering: smooth, precise, responsive and up there with the best boats I’ve sailed.

She’s an easy yacht to sail short-handed, or even solo with an autopilot. While the cockpit is wide it’s also quite short, and not designed for a full race crew. Lines and sheets can be managed easily by one person without feeling like they’ve run a marathon around the deck. The 106% genoa is a doddle to tack and when you sit forward of the wheel, the mainsheet winch is to hand and the cockpit is easily accessible. There are some boat tests where I never want the sailing side of it to end, this was one of them.

What’s she like in port and at anchor?

With genoa tracks on top of the coachroof and all lines (including genoa sheets and car adjusters) led under the deck, the only things to catch an unwary toe are two lines going across the foredeck and two flip-flop turning blocks by the genoa winches – that’s it! While the seats in the cockpit are only 1.47m (4ft 10in) long, with the wonderfully clutter-free deck you could lie down and stretch out almost anywhere else. The winches do impinge on elbow space on the coaming a little when you’re relaxing.

No part of her ground tackle or windlass are above deck, so the deck has the best hope of remaining free of muck from the anchor. The anchor lives in the bow roller under the optional bowsprit. There is no second bow roller and the hull has minimal chafe protection around the fold-down mooring cleats (fixed cleats are standard), which are quite far aft, so you’d have to rig up your own anti-chafe solution for nights on swinging moorings.

Below decks she has options of twin or single aft cabins and you can choose to have one or two heads compartments.

Would she suit you and your crew?

If you see yourself as a sporty cruiser, or someone who like sailing fast but also doesn’t want to compromise on their comfort, the X4 could be what you’re looking for. And if you enjoy sailing, you’ll love her. She’s a real connoisseur’s boat and quite simply a delight on the helm. I know looks are subjective, but X-Yachts have put in a lot of effort to keep her lines and decks clean and I think she looks great.

She may have a base price of £288,000 Inc VAT, but there are many lovely details that are options, like the bathing platform, hull-coloured carbon fibre bowsprit and fold-down cleats. Ticking these three boxes would increase her cost by more than £10,700 inc VAT, but that’s not to say these items are overpriced. I mention it as a caution – you really should make allowances for some box-ticking in your budget.

However much you do spend, it will be a distant memory once you get the wheel in your hand and start looking at the telltales. Just remember to keep an eye on the depth…

Delivered to her first owner in 2021 at the X-Yachts shipyard in Denmark, MEDUSA was used for seatrials only before her first owner decided to order a larger X-Yacht. She was then placed back ashore at the X-Yachts shipyard where her current and second owner bought her in 2022 and immediately spent a further Euro 70,000 on additional upgrades including teak decks, vinyl hull wrap, additional genoa tracks, furling Code 0 and gennaker equipment, upgraded charger/inverter and so on. Having sailed MEDUSA down the Mediterranean during the 2022 season, her owner has enjoyed use of the boat through the 2023 season, but now reluctantly offers the boat for sale as he is now focused on other projects.

PRESS REVIEW:

The X46 was conceived as a fast, fun, easy-to-handle cruising yacht – and that’s exactly what she is. Her speed-to-effort ratio is probably among the best you will find in a monohull because she’s small enough to be easily handled by a couple while her race-bred design makes sure she covers the ground at an impressive rate.

She’s not an inexpensive boat and it’s easy to see why. Epoxy-infused, post-cured, cored laminates cost money. So do lead bulbs, flush seacocks, internal steel grids, high-quality joinery and accessible systems. As the saying goes, ‘you pays your money…’

It’s reassuring to know that the entire design and construction process is completed by X-Yachts in-house. And British owners will be pleased to know that the design office, headed by X-Yachts’ co-founder Niels Jeppesen, is based on the Hamble.

2 dead after boat collides with yacht in South Florida, police say

Two men died in a Miami-Dade hospital after the boat they were on collided with a yacht in Biscayne Bay, according to Florida Fish and Wildlife officials.

The crash happened around 6:45 p.m. Sunday off waters near Homestead, Miami-Dade County Fire Rescue said. The cause of the accident is unclear.

The collision was between a 51-foot Azimut yacht with seven people on board and a 17-foot Key West center console boat with two men on board, police with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission noted.

Both the driver and passenger on the Key West vessel were seriously injured and taken to the hospital, where they died, according to Arielle Callender, a fish and wildlife police spokesperson.

Andrea Rudchenco, a Fire Rescue spokesperson, added the men were airlifted to Jackson South Medical Center.

Callender said the crash remains under investigation.
