Invincible 33 Catamaran Boat Review

  • By Randy Vance
  • Updated: September 20, 2021

Invincible 33 Catamaran running offshore

Invincible Boats and design firm Morrelli & Melvin have hit their stride with the latest debut in Invincible’s five-model catamaran lineup, all of which feature hybrid semi-asymmetrical hulls. The design of the 33 Catamaran provides a high-performance ride, comfortable turning and superior sea-keeping characteristics.

The South Florida builder provided my test boat in mid-August. It came equipped with twin Mercury Verado supercharged 400 hp outboards, which pushed the hull to nearly 62 miles per hour with four crew and 100 pounds of gear. The cat jumped to plane in about 6.5 seconds and hit 30 miles per hour in 11 seconds.

Ok, all that is cool, but what’s really cool is the way this boat handles. Crisp, comfortable turns feature none of the awkward outward heeling of symmetrical cats. The twin sponsons also work best together when they have chop to deal with.

Fish Features

As a fishing platform, the 33 features outstanding stability at rest and when trolling. Bolstered inwales cushion the thighs, and the gunwales themselves rise to a comfortable height for wiring, releasing or gaffing a fish.

A 65-gallon oval livewell centered on the transom is flanked by a starboard transom door and a pair of port-side storage drawers. An in-deck livewell (also 65 gallons) adds capacity, and both tanks are fed by a sea chest with four pumps.

Rod holders are almost too numerous to count; it took three of us five minutes to agree on a count of 47 between the transom, gunwales, leaning post, hard top and side-console racks.

Invincible 33 Catamaran tackle station

Mezzanine seating behind of the three-man leaning post doubles as a rigging station when the seatback is folded down. In that compartment, I found four drawers in two lockers flanking a center utility box. On each side of the leaning post, I saw two more compartments.

Comfort Factors

You’d expect a lot from a 33-foot boat with a 10-foot-3-inch beam, and Invincible delivers numerous features. The center console (from the 36 Open Fisherman) and leaning post (from the 35 Catamaran), as well as a new-size hard top all fit beautifully, leaving wide walkways to either side. On the helm face, Invincible provides plenty of room for two 20-inch displays, a VHF radio, Mercury VesselView gauge and Fusion audio controller. The hard top is ported to stow longer rods, and acrylic windscreens protect passengers from the weather.

When the day’s fishing ends, families find loads of seating for a dinner under the stars. A double lounge graces the front of the console, and beneath it, a large compartment comes equipped with a head. Invincible has considered all of the variables to deliver the right formula for a great day on the water with family and friends.

Invincible 33 Catamaran: 2022 Boat Buyers Guide

  • December 17, 2021

There are many ways to describe a boat, but Invincible has settled upon one word that embodies grace, strength, agility and more: athletic.

Invincible 33 overhead

“The fact is,” the company says proudly, “no one today builds a more athletic fishing machine.”

Invincible introduced its now-classic center-console Invincible 36 in 2006, built on the patented Stepped-Vee Ventilated Tunnel design from naval architect Michael Peters. Invincible’s monohull boats still ride on that distinctive hull design.

Next, Invincible partnered with multihull specialist Morrelli & Melvin Design to create a center-console catamaran line whose patented hybrid, semi-asymmetrical design leads the industry in ride, handling and speed. The boat’s fishability is enriched by its single-level deck and ability to gaff a fish from the bow.

Invincible 33 Catamaran

Invincible’s smallest cat—with siblings to 46 feet—takes the performance, versatility and amenities of those larger boats and packages them in a powerful, agile and nimble new one: what the company calls “a whole new size of serious.”

Atop the patented catamaran hull, a single-level deck offers 360-degree walk-around fishability. Within the deck is generous storage and insulated fish boxes and livewells; another livewell is in the transom, among other options.

A high-speed pickup is ready to serve an optional sea chest. The deluxe console has ample space for battlewagon-style electronics, and is lined and lighted within to offer space for a full-size head. Match your fishing style with a custom top: a hardtop or folding tower with a dual station, plus a buggy-style hardtop and/or crow’s-nest. Rupp or Gem outriggers are options, as are additional rod holders, electric-reel outlets, LED spreader lights, and seating additions and upgrades including custom Llebroc helm chairs.

For power, choose from twin Yamaha 300s or Mercury Verado or Racing outboards.

Manufacturer’s Remark

With the size making it easy to trailer, this was purpose-built for customers interested in big-cat performance to align with their size needs.

2024 Invincible 33 Catamaran

  • By Boating Tech Team
  • December 13, 2023

Invincible’s 33 Catamaran has proven to be a hit. It’s not at all surprising considering its smooth, responsive handling. A hybrid semi-asymmetrical hull designed by Morrelli and Melvin applies the best characteristics of an asymmetrical catamaran with soft-riding symmetrical cat sponsons. The boat makes sharp turns without awkward outboard heeling. Even in quartering seas, the sponsons stand firm in the slop; in fact, the nastier the weather, the better the double-step hull works.

Invincible 33 Catamaran offshore

The helm station offers three-wide seating with a centered wheel. The leaning-post seat is comfortable for sitting or leaning. A step below the helm adds comfort while standing or seated. The station itself offers massive room for dual 20-inch (or larger) screens and, in our case, a 9-inch VesselView display, an Icom VHF radio and a Fusion stereo controller. The hardtop stretches wide and aft of the leaning post, keeping the helm glare-free and shaded.

Invincible 33 Catamaran forward seating

The fighting cockpit is impressively spacious, taking full advantage of the 10-foot-3-inch beam. An oval livewell with a clear acrylic lid in the transom is 65 gallons, pressurized, and fed from a sea chest with three pumps in the starboard sponson. To port of this livewell is a pair of drawers ideal for tackle, rope, or wash and wax supplies. There’s also a larger 65-gallon livewell below the sole.

Invincible 33 Catamaran helm

The mezzanine seat (back of the leaning post) is triple-wide, with the seating angle designed to lean back even when the boat is on plane. Tackle storage is conveniently accessed behind the drop-down seatback and in the sides of the leaning post.

Four fish boxes and a coffin box ahead of the center console offer plenty of fish storage, and they pump out with durable gulper pumps instead of temperamental macerators.

Invincible 33 Catamaran console seating

A dual lounge forward of the helm features thick cushions, deep bolsters, armrests and handy cup holders. Invincible’s great ride delivers comfort during casual outings, and the spacious deck makes it a formidable fishing machine. Add new V-10 power options and the excitement is palpable.

Invincible 33 Catamaran Review

Let's take a closer look at the invincible 33 catamaran in this boat review.

Invincible 33 Catamaran Review

The Morelli and Melvin designed hulls each Invincible catamaran features takes comfort and efficiency to the next level.

If I were trying to sell the performance or demonstrate to someone who’d never ridden on a power catamaran fishing boat how well they handled rough weather- jumping on any of the Invincible Cats would be a great first step. After being blown away by the 37 Invincible Cat last year, the 33 had its work cut out for it. My first concern was “could Invincible build one small enough to run great with only twin power that would also stand up to offshore weather of any consequence?” The short and long answer is, absolutely.

The 33 Catamaran proved to be another Morrelli and Melvin hull design that delivers a smooth, dry, and remarkably solid ride in real world offshore weather. Each of these models are laid out similarly and the new 33 Cat is a scaled down version of each of her bigger sisters. The difference is how much roomier this 33-foot boat feels due to her wise use of every inch of over 300 square feet of work space. A quick 360-degree spin around the single level deck reveals four extra-large insulated fish holds underfoot in the bow and amidships. A pair of large livewells (up to 70-gallons) are in the transom and below deck to starboard, each supplied via sea chest and outfitted with primary and spare pumps.

Plenty of tackle storage is available hidden behind the mezzanine seat back on the helm station as well as on both sides of the helm box and within the transom bulkhead to port. A large drink cooler is also below the mezzanine seat. For rod storage, there isn’t a location on board where you won’t find a rod holder on either side of you within arm’s reach. The helm is enclosed on three sides in glass with a triple wide seat facing a centered helm control. A pair of 400 Mercury engines pushed the 33 into the 60 MPH range with ease.

For any remaining dyed in the wool old school non-believers who are on the fence regarding the roominess, comfort, performance and ride that a perfectly designed catamaran offers, a ride on the Invincible 33 will without a doubt push you over the edge.

Invincible 33 Catamaran on the ocean

Since 2006, Invincible has carried serious sport fishermen in pursuit of trophy fish and tournament wins in boats boasting intuitive designs, solid construction and thrilling performance.

Invincible is proud of its semicustom, owner-designed boats with innovative hull designs. These include the original Michael Peters-designed and patented Stepped-Vee Ventilated Tunnel (SVVT) single hull of its powerful tournament boats, and the partnered Morrelli & Melvin patented, hybrid, semi-asymmetrical hulls of its catamarans.

Invincible launched with the SVVT single hull in 2006, after its founder was unable to find a boat tough enough, fast enough and smooth-riding enough to meet his demands as a serious angler and decided to build his own instead. Enlisting naval architect Peters’ design, he created a new standard in Invincible.

Invincible uses innovative and practical techniques such as vacuum-bagged infusion and diamond-patterned nonskid decks. It pays attention to console design and footrest angle, with hardtop frame sightlines providing better navigation. Invincibles have smooth hole shots and quick on-plane times.

When Invincible decided to get into the center-console catamaran segment, it brought to market a cat superbly adept at high-speed turns, agile without need for trim tabs or tanked ballast.

In single hull or cat, the company says, “No one builds a more athletic fishing machine.”

Invincible 33 Catamaran helm

Five years after launching its Morrelli & Melvin-designed catamaran line, Invincible has created its smallest cat platform yet: the 33 Catamaran, with the performance, versatility and amenities of its bigger siblings in a powerful, agile and nimble new form.

Like all the Invincible cats, the 33 features a single-level deck and 360-degree walk-around fishability, including the ability to gaff fish at the bow. Standard are bow and below-deck storage and a deluxe console—its dash adopted from the 36 Open Fisherman—with room for a full-size head. The 33 Catamaran also boasts a finished bilge and high-speed pickup for livewell sea chests.

Top options include a hardtop, a windshield and enclosures, a folding tower with a dual station, a crow’s nest for the hardtop, outriggers and kingfish rod holders. For the helm select a pair of Llebroc seats or back-to-back helm/mezzanine seats. Behind the latter is a tackle center with a built-in cooler beneath the seat base. A removable rear bench seat is another option.

A variety of fishing options are available, including up to 47 rod holders, undergunwale rod racks, transom and in-deck livewells with sea chests, and a rear-facing tackle station. Underwater LED lights are also available.

The boat anticipates fishing success with four insulated fish boxes, two flanking the cabin and another pair in the bow. The space within the console-front seat can also be used for fish or gear storage.

You can never have too much deck space, especially if you engage in active fishing styles like casting to breaking fish. Big cat boats maximize onboard real estate with wide beams that ensure everyone can hook up without having to dance around each other.  -Joe Albanese, Executive Editor Salt Water Sportsman

The latest addition to the Invincible fleet, the 33, is a pure open fishing boat designed to go fast and far, to get you where the fish are. A real fishing machine, but also a catamaran with exceptional seakeeping abilities, ready to head offshore. Invincible is an American brand born in 2006 in Florida. Its founder, John Dorton, is an avid sport fisherman and was frustrated that he couldn’t find a fishing boat that was strong enough, fast enough or comfortable enough to meet his needs. So, he decided to create his own brand and to do so, he hired Michael Peters, a famous naval architect for monohulls. After a few years, Invincible, in search of even greater efficiency, turned to catamaran design, this time calling on Morrelli & Melvin, a naval architecture firm widely recognized in the multihull field. The result is a range of catamarans characterized by a very high and slightly asymmetrical hulls with very tapered bows, and a single-level deck to facilitate life on board. The range now includes six models from 33 to 46 feet in Open or Pilothouse versions.

Invincible Season 2, Episode 5 Review – “This Must Come As a Shock”

Invincible Season 2, Episode 5 Review – “This Must Come As a Shock” - IGN Image

After last year’s midseason finale left Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun) bruised and bloodied at the hands of Viltrumites, the second half of Invincible’s second season kicks off with an entry that, despite being occasionally rushed, is focused on rebuilding. Nolan (J.K. Simmons), now captured by his kin, is unfortunately nowhere to be seen, and the series’ leading women unfortunately get the short end of the stick. But despite dropping the ball as an ensemble piece, Episode 5 advances the show’s plot definitively setting up major battles on three different fronts in the process.

Season 2 opened with Mark recovering from his beatdown by Nolan and taking it rather poorly. He begins the second half in a similar position – i.e. in a bloody pulp – but this time around, he comes out of it in a much healthier place, not only helping the Thraxans rebuild their fallen kingdom, but believing that Nolan is a better man. Two months go by, and while his younger, purple-skinned half-brother remains an infant, the child’s mantis-like mother Andressa (Rhea Seehorn) has entered old age, and hopes to charge Mark with his care once she passes. Mark, though reluctant to take him (and to return home so soon), has evolved considerably. He’s a responsible hero now, so he accepts what’s best for his yet-unnamed sibling.

In Mark’s absence, things remain a combination of goofy and dangerous on Earth. The Guardians of the Globe battle Omnipotus, a giant, Skeletor-like creature, who commands them to “tremble before my unlimited power” – to which The Immortal (Ross Marquand) retorts in deadpan fashion: “No!” Meanwhile, Donald (Chris Diamantopoulos) finally confronts GDA head honcho Cecil (Walton Goggins) about his missing memories and cyborg arm, a disorienting discovery that Cecil callously comes clean about, with little care for Donald’s emotional state. This subplot is only given a small handful of scenes – Mark’s return home takes up most of the runtime – but it feels emotionally volatile.

Unfortunately, the episode also continues Invincible’s trend of using single, fleeting scenes to nominally get us up to speed on the goings on elsewhere. At Guardians HQ, the teenager Robot (Zachary Quinto) shows concern for Immortal’s training exercises and their reverse-aging effects on his romantic interest, Monster Girl (Grey Griffin). But she swiftly rebuffs his interference before the episode moves on, and seldom folds this interaction into subsequent scenes in which the duo appears.

The Mark-centric scenes also suffer for similar reasons. His mother, Debbie (Sandra Oh), has long been the show’s emotional core, but we don’t get to see how she reacts when Mark shares the news about Nolan and his half-Thraxan son – and asks her to take care of the kid. It’s economical in terms of plot – this information is familiar to the audience, though not to Debbie – but it robs the character and the audience of a sequence key to her emotional journey. Instead of witnessing and experiencing her rollercoaster of emotions, the scene simply skips forward to her acceptance of looking after the child of the man who betrayed her. Similarly, when Mark reunites with his girlfriend Amber (Zazie Beetz) at college, the episode fades past these difficult revelations, to more quickly get Mark from point A to B. The episode may be titled “This Must Come As a Shock,” but few moments of shock actually end up on screen.

On the plus side, a conversation that plays out to its fullest potential involves not only Atom Eve (Gillian Jacobs) but surprisingly, Rex Splode (Jason Mantzoukas), her goofy, fast-talking ex who finally slows down to have a serious, meaningful chat. Eve, having turned her back on heroism after messing up one too many times, is in desperate need of a pep talk, and the fact that Rex steps up works as its own little redemptive arc, though in true Invincible fashion, it’s practically a premonition of doom for the seemingly reformed hero (he makes it out of the episode alive, but not in one piece).

Everything goes wrong at once for Mark and the Guardians. Just as Cecil is about to send his men to snatch Mark’s baby brother from Debbie’s arms, the show’s Martian chickens come home to roost. Shapesmith (Ben Schwartz), an alien who’s been moonlighting as human astronaut Rus Livingston, finally comes clean when the Guardians learn of a Martian ship approaching the atmosphere, though it turns out Cecil and Immortal were already aware of his deception. The real Rus, now controlled by an alien hivemind, makes his way to Earth as part of a conquering mission, forcing Cecil to ask Mark to return to space (along with some of the other Guardians) despite admonishing him for leaving in the first place.

Invincible Season 2

Things don’t quite go to plan aboard the Martian ship, and they aren’t much rosier on Earth, since the newly re-formed Lizard League decides it’s time to take over the world’s nuclear arsenal. It’s a silly, cartoonish plot with serious consequences, including in the short run, when Shrinking Rae decides to pull a couple of Ant-Man-in-Thanos’-butt maneuvers with gory results. But while it works the first time, she isn’t quite so successful the second time she attempts to (literally) get inside her opponent’s head. But before we have time to process the horrifying implications, Rex has one of his hands chomped off and ends up with a gun to his head.

On Earth, and in space, the Guardians are in a spot of bother. However, once the episode’s credits play for a few seconds, the story starts back up again and presents us with Invincible’s most consequential mid-credits scene thus far. It turns out that Coalition leader Thaedus (Peter Cullen) hadn’t actually taken Allen (Seth Rogen) off life support in order to kill him. Rogen’s delightful cyclops alien regains consciousness and wakes up super buff, after which Thaedus explains his gambit: taking him off life support would either lead to a slow death, or make him strong enough to finally oppose the Viltrumites, albeit with Mark’s help. The aged leader also reveals that he’s a turncoat Viltrumite himself, and he does it in the funniest possible way: by ripping off his enormous beard to reveal a signature Viltrum mustache. Gasp!

While it skips over some vital emotional beats, Invincible’s mid-season premiere finds Mark in an important new phase of his development, and it ends with every single hero in a spot of trouble. The show remains one of the best superhero sagas on television, and it never fails to be fun.
