Last season, I purchased a New Southport Center Console from Smith Yacht Sales. My wife purchased a brokerage cruising boat from them as well. Both transactions were handled by Jon Trega. Jon was an outstanding broker/dealer to work with. Navigating the difficult post Covid world of product sourcing, delivery impacts, survey coordination, sea trials etc was flawlessly handled by Jon. He was on top of everything. Jon would regularly travel to the factory and send me pictures and reports updating me on the manufacturing process of the Southport. He worked hard to keep the order on track. This season we are reaping the efforts Jon made on our behalf. All tolled, we have purchased two boats thru Jon and sold one. Thank you Jon for your excellent efforts on our behalf. We love these boats and appreciate everything you did to make each purchase and sale a pleasant transaction. I'm an lifelong avid boater who has purchased and sold several boats in my time. Jon is the best Broker/Dealer I've ever worked with. Robert and Trisha P.

I can t speak directly about Smith Yacht Sales but i can tell you that the salesman simply is a dishonest person. He he tell you want you want to hear. My salesman was Jon Trega. He complained about the buyer broker was liars and cheats but at the same time was saying disparaging remarks to them about me his client, He was aboard when the buyer was conducting the sea trial. They left a value open which almost caused the boat to sink and the Marina. Other boat owners reported the issue . Jon blamed everyone else.

No call backs when promised to set up time to view boat (Todd) Then (Dan) responded with info on wrong boat? I let him know what boat I was asking about ( It was in the lead as well) Never heard back? Very disconnected and not following up? Wish I could have gotten the 5 star treatment the others on google reviews seem to have gotten. Google reviews are corrupt as they will not post this real review. Update to owners response: Sorry you do not like the 1 star review. I love how you make reference to the other one star reviews I have left in the past ( Deflecting the issue) and I think you know why. Yelp is the only non corruptible platform you can leave less than stellar reviews on. Google takes good reviews all day long but would not take this one? hmm? This is why you see several one star reviews on yelp as this site cannot be "Bought" to hide less than stellar reviews. I leave plenty of 5 star reviews for other real "stand up outfits" FYI Dan never called or texted back when I asked him (I replied to the incorrect email he sent ) Furthermore Todd committed to call by weeks end if boat was available and I did NOT hear back until weeks later when his deal/ Survey went south. If you think this is acceptable, best of luck! good times don't last forever.Remember 2009? Boats now sell themselves! I get it ,but don't be sloppy with sales. Stop defecting your responsibility by saying I gave negative reviews to other "Stand up outfits" One star efforts gets one star reviews. BTW I shouldn't have to call " The owner" when potentially spending 10's of thousands of dollars. Good service goes far , Bad service goes much further. The market is aggressive and being on point with customers is key.

Hi Tom: I'm sorry to hear you had that experience with our company. We take these issues seriously, and as the owner I did an internal investigation to get to the bottom of the situation. Apparently, in the spring of 2020 you had inquired on another boat we had listed and the agent was Dan. Dan remembered your interaction and said you came up to see the boat, spent a few hours with him but did not end up pursuing it. When your lead came in in November of 2021 on Todd's 23 Grady, Dan was also notified by the system as you had contacted him in 2020. Dan now has a 33 Grady listed and at first glance, thought this is why you were contacting him - he quickly realized you were calling on the 23 Grady and he referred it to the listing agent, Todd. Todd explained and showed me all of the text messages between the two of you that you had asked to see the boat but Todd initially explained that one of our customers had intended on making an offer and he would let you know if it did not come together. In your texts you had asked to see the boat which is fine, but Todd was out of town for a few weeks and mentioned it was at a closed yard and there was no door in the wrap yet. You had asked him if you could go on your own and he reiterated that it was at a closed yard and he had to be there. I first discovered your review on Saturday 12/18/21 and immediately called Dan and Todd to review. Todd ended his report by saying he had just texted you again the week of 12/13 to let you know that his customer was not going to pursue the boat and you were welcome to take a look and make an offer if you were still interested. It's unfortunate that we received a 1 star rating from you as I don't feel this is an accurate depiction of how we do business. I did note in your profile that you have given many businesses 1 star ratings, some of which I know and are also stand up businesses with good owners. As a small business owner I am accessible and have certainly received calls from customers in the past that have had some frustration for one reason or another, but we are always able to work things out for the customer - which is why we are so highly rated. In the future, I would recommend that when you are highly frustrated with a business, especially a small business, just call the owner. We wish you the best in your search. Thank you, Eric Smith
