The elegant Shields Class was designed by Sparkman & Stephens as a gentlemans one design and the class has thrived for nearly fiftly years. The Shields also serves as a comfortable daysailor and club racer, unlike many one-design classes. “Wicked” was significantly upgraded in 2011 (see below) and is ready to compete in fleet racing or to serve as stylish daysailor; she is in excellent condition and priced to sell. 2011 Upgrades Deck Awlgripped Hull Awlgripped Boot Top Awlgripped Wood work stripped and varnished 6 coats New main and jib Quantum New Boom Most of the running rigging replaced All new standing rigging New bottom paint 2011 regular anti-fouling paint Winches taken apart and greased Compasses rebuilt

Shields One-Design

The Shields was conceived as a one-design racing sailboat for maritime cadets and continues to have strong fleets throughout the north east and California. She has a sleek hull design and generous sail area that keep her fun and exciting. Combined with 3,080 lbs of external lead keel she remains steady in strong winds. Most race the Shields with 4 or 5 people, but she can be day sailed with two. The class association has kept the strict one-design nature of the boat true.

New in russia: khabarovsk class submarine.
When Russia embarked on the path of introducing a completely new category of nuclear weapon, the gigantic Poseidon drone torpedo, they had to create a whole new category of submarine to carry it. In a move that harks back to the Cold War, the Russian Navy is quietly building a fleet of these submarines. The first dedicated boat, Khabarovsk, is expected to enter the water next year.
Other navies are unlikely to emulate it, but they will want to counter it. The underwater game of cat and mouse where U.S. Navy and Royal Navy hunter-killer submarines stalk the Russians could be reinvigorated. A new Cold War in the Arctic, North Atlantic and North Pacific.
Russia has managed to keep many details about the next of these special submarines, Khabarovsk, out of the public domain. Relatively little is known about this large nuclear-armed boat, certainly in comparison to Western types. So it’s launch is eagerly anticipated by defense watchers. It is being built in Construction Hall 1 at the Sevmash yard in Severodvinsk in Russia’s Arctic North. It is now expected to be floated in spring/summer 2020. We shouldn’t hold our breath though, the launch has been delayed years already.

True museum quality Russian Navy submarine models
ANY Class or ANY Service Era ANY SIZE or SCALE model desired! We offer our submarine models in several popular size/scale offerings for easy ordering and selection. However, if you would like your model made in a size other than those sizes listed, please contact us with your request. Custom orders are our specialty!
Our submarine models are made-to-order, meaning that we do not stock any pre-made models. Only when a customer tells us the size and/or scale desired do we build the model. Each model is exquisitely crafted by our master model builders and comes fully assembled with a solid hull - hand carved from kiln-dried mahogany. Other parts are made from a variety of woods, putty, resin and metals. Every model includes pedestals, mounted on a polished mahogany base board. Other options include keel block mounting, waterline models, ships seals and ribbons, and weathering paint schemes.
Any service era or vessel configuration - We can build a model of them all - your pick.
The model build time is generally 16 weeks from receipt of the order and deposit. The normal procedure is a 50% deposit with the commissioning, with the balance due prior to shipping. Note that prior to shipping, we take a series of photos of the model and send them to you for final review and approval – so you know exactly what your model will look like and allow for any necessary modifications. Once you have approved your model, we’ll collect the final balance and she will be shipped in a robust shipping crate and insured for your protection.
We offer a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee: In the unlikely event you are not completely satisfied with your model and wish to return it, notify us within 7 days of the model delivery and we will issue a refund or exchange.

The fiberglass Shields is a relatively heavy design at 5000 pounds, with 3,080 pounds of external lead ballast. My first sail was as smooth as a Cadillac ride compared to the Yugo-like 300 pound Lido 14.
