Danish delights: Inside the first X-Yachts X6^5

Lying alongside a blustery pontoon on the UK’s River Hamble, the first X6^5 presents an obvious step up for her Danish builder. Literally, in the sense of the boat’s imposing two metre high topsides, and figuratively, for a solid yard whose forte has been production cruising yachts with a turn of pace. The X6^5 promises fast passage times with the same lean, pretty lines as her smaller sisters, but she has a more muscular look consistent with her “mini superyacht” status.

That status rests in part on her size — at 20.1 metres LOA she is X-Yachts ’ biggest model to date — but also in the way she is designed and equipped: tender garage , hardtop bimini, generous hull windows, a flexible rig and endless options for customisation. She can be fitted out below to suit a couple with occasional guests, or for a crew.

Semi-custom can often be a casually applied description but in the case of the X6^5 it is a well-deserved epithet. Just look at her stunning carbon fibre wheel pedestals, cantilevered off the cockpit coaming; or the gorgeous laminated wooden wheel with its carbon fibre spokes. This theme is repeated throughout the boat, with carbon rig and bimini, custom moulded carbon fibre handholds and interior doors, which by themselves cost as much as a brand new performance skiff. None of these is a standard item.

“I am delighted with the way she looks,” says the owner of the first X6^5, “and I think the carbon internally mirrors the rig and the bimini, which are purely practical solutions to weight and strength.”

Yes, the hull comes out of a series mould but almost everything after that is up for discussion, from the finish to the configuration below decks. So, although hull No 1 was conceived with a large owner’s cabin forward, a double aft to starboard and two twin bunk cabins, hull No 4 will have a huge owner’s suite aft across the full width of the stern.

This meant building a new module for the deck mould and is part of what brought the bill for this boat to around €3.2 million ex VAT —compared to a standard €2.5 million. Niels Jeppesen, X-Yachts’ managing director and head designer, explains: “We raised the height of the cockpit above, creating a sort of bridge deck that gives a working and a guest cockpit.”

Similarly, this first boat’s snazzy carbon hardtop was built to the owner’s spec using bespoke tooling. This feature alone seals her credentials as a serious offshore cruiser: the bimini is studded with a dozen 110-watt solar panels — enough to supply 95 per cent of the boat’s hotel loads.

She is also cleverly fitted with concealed roller awnings, and you can choose between a capacious sprayhood that folds invisibly away beneath the coachroof teak or a fixed windscreen in the Scandinavian style. This is a boat that can make the most of a Med summer, but hungers for the challenge of an ocean crossing.

That Scandi feel continues below, where the finish is all walnut underfoot and pale nubuck leather from Sørensen. It has a chic, modern feel, with lots of natural light, white panelling, subtle indirect lighting and fine stainless steel work. There’s lots of room here, but don’t be fooled — there are unostentatious handholds exactly where they are required to get around when the boat is heeling under sail.

In the well equipped galley, the owner insisted on a snappy stainless steel worktop — seamless 6mm solid metal with a careful matt finish that almost seems to float. Naturally, there are all mod cons here and X-Yachts has fitted custom cupboard interiors to suit the owner’s crockery.

Jeppesen says that 95 per cent of clients opt for oak or teak joinery, but adds “we’re happy to deliver any sort of finish”. The Hamble-based design team will even produce a detailed 3D rendering of the interior to showcase your finish. “We’re willing to do what it takes to ensure the boat is precisely what the client wants,” he adds. Designers Guild is a key fabric supplier but it could be Loro Piana or Gucci if the owner so wishes.

After a night of 40 knot winds and biblical rain, our test day dawns bright and blustery. Beating into 16 knots blowing up the western Solent, the X6^5 makes an effortless 7 knots under just reefed main — a sublime North 3Di sail. Adding the inner jib, boat speed jumps to 8.5 knots and we hit 11 knots on a reach as the wind gusts up off Calshot Spit.

Sail controls are all handled via four electric Harken winches by the steering pedestals, and the below deck furlers are electrically controlled too, for true push-button sailing. The main is on a custom FurlerBoom, with more than a hint of Park Avenue to it. There is automatic boom levelling to ensure the sail rolls up smoothly, and horizontal battens to give the sail better shape for faster sailing.

Her semi-balanced twin rudders make for good handling, even as 30 knots bend her over on her ear. Stiffness is assured by X-Yachts’ trademark steel frame in the bilges, which also provides a very secure attachment point for the keel.

The rig is supremely tunable, thanks to the hydraulic backstay and forestay tensioners. The inner forestay and the gennaker can both be easily detached and lowered directly into the sail locker, and the mainsheet is fastened out of the way on the carbon arch over the cockpit. “I would sail solo and certainly the furling main helps with that,” the owner explains. “However, I opted not to put a self tacking track on the inner jib so it makes it harder alone!”

Though it gusts more than 30 knots at times, and the ride is exhilarating as we beat into the short Solent chop, the cockpit remains as dry as a bone. After the boat has walked sideways on to the pontoon using its bow and stern thrusters, I step back down to earth with only a light dusting of salt on my sunglasses.

World Class Since 1979 X-Yachts was established in 1979, when brothers Niels and Lars Jeppesen met Birger Hansen. X-Yachts first model was the X-79, which became very popular as a One Design Class and still is a very active class. International debut The first international X-Yacht, the X-102, won the ¾ Ton Cup in Helsinki, Finland and defended the victory one year later in Denia, Spain. This suddenly established X-Yachts internationally. Throughout the 80’s, X-Yachts’ models won international world championships nine times. In the 90’s, more IMS championship successes followed. Speed and style A performance cruiser that sets new standards The X-65 was conceived as a big sister to the hugely successful X-55; European Yacht of the Year 2007. She is also the little sister of the extremely fast and stylish IMX 70. The result is a sleek yet spacious performance cruiser. At every stage of design and production the focus has been to create a yacht that is easy to sail and utterly reliable. The X-65 embodies elegance and enjoyment in equal measure.

X-65 - 11

Systems that you can depend on Reliability is crucial. Problems with gear or systems can be frustrating in port and could compromise safety at sea X-Yachts' solution is to use trusted technology and standardised systems. There is push-button control of halyards and sheets, with reliable electric units favoured over high-maintenance hydraulics. This is a yacht for sailors, not engineers.

Beauty in the detail Thoughtful design means simple sailing You do not need to sacrifice beauty to achieve practicality. When creating the X-65 the designers combined their experience with innovative new ideas to keep her lines clean while ensuring she is easy to handle. One of the optional foredeck arrangements typifies this intelligent approach. The anchor and bow roller stow neatly out of sight when berthed or at sea, and are launched on a hinged stainless steel arm, supported by a gas strut. As well as an optional inner forestay and powered genoa furler, the foredeck can also house a...

Hidden Talents Control lines right where you need them The deck and coachroof has been cleverly designed to hide sheets, halyards and control lines out of view. This makes her not only a joy to behold, but also a safer boat to sail.

Control at the helm Innovative tender stowage Whilst steering the X-65 you will find all that you need close at hand. Navigation equipment, auto pilot controls, instruments and gauges mounted on the pedestal are supported by reapeaters at the mast. The communications equipment can be found with the engine control panel on the starboard side. The main and genoa sheets are just a step away, and the port halyard winch can be controlled electrically from the starboard console, as can the in-boom furling if fitted.

X-65 - 18

A sting in the tail Innovative tender stowage Transom stowage of tenders is an ideal option that has, until now, been reserved for much larger yachts. The X-65 sets a new standard in its class by incorporating a large garage space accessed from the stern. There is room for a 3.2m RIB that is perfect for exploring your new destination or just for some high-octane fun in the sun. Clients can also choose to have a carbon fibre passerelle that, at the touch of a button, extends from a hatch in the port aft deck and allows easy access ashore.

Versatility is a strength A yacht to suit your sailing The X-65 is designed to suit a wide range of demands. Will you opt for the self-tacking jib or the 108% genoa? Should you choose a fixed or removable Kevlar inner forestay? Will you raise the sprayhood from its recessed storage space to deflect the wind or extend one of the biminis to keep the sun off the cockpit or helm? You may be sailing fully crewed or want a boat that is a pleasure to sail shorthanded. Whatever your needs there are options to suit your sailing.

The jaw-dropping X6 from X-Yachts – a super-stylish step up for this Danish builder

  • Toby Hodges
  • December 12, 2016

Toby Hodges takes the highly customised hull number one of X-Yachts new 65-footer for a test sail and found a yacht with untold potential for idyllic onboard life. Photos Richard Langdon.

x yacht 65

The X6 is a bold design: a muscular, small superyacht blessed with powerful lines; a yacht that will place most others of her size firmly in the shade. The flagship of the new X range (the 41ft X4 was launched simultaneously – see full X4 test report ), the X6 is a completely different animal, inside and out, from X-Yachts Xp performance cruiser range , designed to be a semi-custom cruiser with a healthy dose of testosterone and raw contemporary appeal.

“I have never walked into a boat before and fallen straight in love with it like this,” said our veteran photographer Richard Langdon, not one normally prone to exaggeration. The formidable natural light illuminates a mix of finishes including bare teak, clear-coat carbon, stainless steel and walnut – all modern, light, and fresh looking. “It’s sensational,” I agreed.

It should be noted however that this first X6 was built in collaboration with its British owner and is customised with a multitude of optional extras, including the carbon and leather trim, the brushed-stainless galley surfaces and the backlit feature bookshelf. He has also opted for a carbon Hall Spars mast and custom-made roller boom, which, together with features like her large hull portlights and bespoke dinghy stowage – there is room to stow a RIB facing forward on a roller-launching system that hinges down, as the aft deck lifts up – help identify her as very much a scaled-down superyacht.

Twin rudders are unusual for X-Yachts. The X73 in 2001 was the first model to have twin rudders – making room for the tender garage. “We don’t do it on smaller models because of prop walk,” Jeppesen explained. “But at this size you have a stern thruster.”

The X6 has very similar hull lines to the X65 I tested in 2009, seven of which were produced. She has a similar price and specification but her interior design is a quantum leap ahead.

Interior panache

To descend the bare teak steps of the shallow companionway is to witness a new dawn for X-Yachts. Yes we’ve seen a lot of raised saloon models before, but this has lashings of added panache. Stand in the saloon and you are at the perfect height for near-panoramic views, including that most prized angle looking forward over the flush foredeck. The amount of natural light in the saloon and galley is phenomenal.

1u4a6433

The interior of the X6 sparkles with natural light, her design and layout outshining all other recent production yachts.

Lift up the floorboards in the saloon and you’ll find high-calibre engineering: X-Yachts’s galvanised steel grid immediately imparts peace of mind; the tanks and batteries are all centrally positioned for optimum weight management and the hoses and wire looms are housed in metal cradles to keep them neatly together and out of the bilges. The plywood soles are thicker than those used in my house. I’m told that matching the walnut veneer in those lengths was somewhat tricky. The predominant trim is light oak Alpi again, but this has been brushed when bare for a more tactile finish.

By providing a modular layout to the three-part accommodation plan, X-Yachts can offer a variety of options. The test boat had a four-cabin format (two Pullmans and two double cabins). The choice of an extra Pullman forward, reduces the size of the sail locker and removes the space for a forepeak crew cabin. The aft Pullman is ideally placed for a professional crew next to the walk-in engine room and galley, although the addition of an en-suite here would make it more practical for crew use.

The telescopic coffee table in the saloon is an odd, over-complicated device with four diagonal folding leaf sections to seat a maximum of seven. Combined with a small cockpit table, this restricts the options for hosting any kind of slap-up meal from the wonderfully light and large galley, the size and quality of which is a real selling point of the boat. It has a phenomenal amount of locker space and cold storage, plus space for extras like a trash compactor, coffee machine, dishwasher, and microwave.

The owner’s cabin forward, with over 7ft of headroom, is again well lit and inviting with a distinct impression of luxury. The double aft has a corridor-style entrance that extends under the cockpit sole. It then widens out to reveal a generous cabin with a large hull portlight and private access to the adjoining heads.

More design features: stylish porthole-style barometer and temperature displays

Twin rudder power

Anyone familiar with X-Yachts will not be surprised to read that this is a slippery, powerful beast. In just 5–7 knots of breeze the X6 will almost match the wind speed to windward. Add a couple of knots in a puff and she heels elegantly and clocks 7.5–8 knots. When it piped up to 14 knots we were slicing upwind pointing 30–35º at 8.5 knots, even topping nine if we footed off 5º.

It was a potent and commanding performance. The inhaulers make a notable difference, adding five degrees to her pointing. An X-Yacht is consistently a delight to sail upwind, but the twin rudder grip offered on the X6 encourages you to push a little offwind. In 10–15 knots and with the Code 0 unleashed we maintained a steady 9.5 knots at 55–80º(apparent). This felt to me more steady than exhilarating and I noted excessive drag off the leeward rudder and wash off the windward rudder in this mode. Jeppesen said they had been tuning the rudder angles to get the best orientation. The loaded helm when reaching was probably more down to poor trim, as it was a nicer, more neutral feeling going upwind.

There’s no doubt that the X6 will make a formidable passage-maker. And if the wind does dip below 5 knots, the standard Yanmar 160hp engine with three-blade Flexifold propels her at 7.4 knots at 1,700rpm, consuming just 5.6lt of diesel per hour.

1u4a6593

The optional carbon arch keeps mainsheet lines out of the cockpit.

Cockpit arch benefits

For a large, powerful design, she’s a calm yacht to sail, thanks in part to a very smart, well thought-out deck design. The sheets for example disappear below deck aft, reappearing at two Harken 980s abaft the cockpit. The furlers for staysail, genoa and Code 0 are all under the deck and I like the versatility her cutter rig provides. The mainsheet is led from the arch forward through the boom and back to winches.

Personally I’m a fan of the cockpit arch. It’s a look reminiscent of the showpiece spoilers that typified the dream cars of the 1980s, but an arch also helps to create a cockpit enclosure, a sense of privacy and protection, and keeps the boom clear. The custom-made furler boom on the test boat has a manual override so the deck winch can be used in case of any power problems. This UK owner was also having a fixed bimini fitted with solar panels on top.

The lengthy but shallow cockpit has a small table and a dedicated liferaft locker by the companionway. Abaft the benches is a pair of winches either side, with storage beneath the side decks for running rigging tails. A generous sail locker swallows fenders and furling sails, plus there’s a chain locker with a wash-down hose and windlass.

Conclusions

The X6 is right in the sweet spot for this new X range, as the 55-80ft sector is where the interior can shine too. I was excited about the edgy, muscular looks of this new age for X-Yachts, but it was the interior of this yacht that blew me away. It’s a prime example of how, if you’re prepared to pay for the extras, the step up to this size level brings the sort of customisation and systems design more typically associated with the superyacht world.

This mid-60ft sector has traction, so new designs have to stand out. The modern styling of the X6 is certainly backed up with the performance X-Yachts is renowned for, although the increased size, load and power level, can lead to a certain ‘loss of feel’.

X-Yachts has a facility in north Poland with 110 workers where the initial hull and deck lay up for both the X4 and the X6 is done. The rest of the assembly, including quality control, takes place in Haderslev, Denmark.

The Qualities of the Line, Taken to the Extreme

The Jeanneau Yachts 65 offers sumptuous interior living spaces, with an owner's cabin bathed in light, located forward or aft. Multiple configurations, equipment and other options enable you to create a nearly custom sailboat. Exterior spaces follow the same principal. You can opt for a clean, pared-down line, or decide to equip the exterior cockpit with an arch, enabling you to install a spray hood and Bimini. For the first time, the exterior windows are in Lexan, a durable material which is transparent like glass.

Fluidity and Elegance

A vast sundeck in the cockpit enables you to take advantage of a moment at anchor for relaxation, while a generous aft swim platform, deployed by electric control, provides access to the sea and to the tender garage. The Jeanneau Yachts 65 subtly balances well-being and security, comfort and performance, elegance and power. Despite its size of 65 feet, it remains easy to handle at port and at sea. The pleasures of life on the water can be savoured as a couple, as a family, or with a larger group.

Storm X-65 By Storm Yachts

  • July 29, 2016

The stunning Storm X-65 was built to grab attention with 100-foot superyacht quality and comfort wrapped in a highly manoeuvrable and elegant 20-metre pleasure yacht offering genuine enduring value. The most striking feature of the yacht is that it’s actual speed can be modified to reflect the current sea conditions. The X-65 is available in two different versions: the X-65 Wheelhouse and the X-65 Flybridge. The choice primarily revolves around what type of sailing the owner likes to do and how warm the cruising areas will be.

The Storm X-65 was created as one of the finest and best-built all-aluminium yachts in its category. It cruises with the help of two Volvo IPS D3 1050 drives and powered by Volvo D-13 diesel engines. Each drive has a standard transmission mounted on a steerable pod unit with two counter-rotating propellers. This all-aluminium round-bilge motoryacht offers a top speed of 24 knots. The efficiency of the X-65’s underwater body results in remarkably low exhaust noise during mooring and unmooring.

The interior of a 65-foot yacht makes owners feel at home away from home. Both the saloon and the wheelhouse boast the ambiance of a super yacht. According to yacht builder, the arrangement of the interior layout can be customized. The X-65 Wheelhouse has a radar mast, which can be lowered hydraulically to reduce the air draught to only 4.65 metres, providing access to the European rivers and lakes.

The first X-65 is equipped with a utility room under the stairs and a gym in the owners’ cabin. Owners will be able to choose the design and decorative style among a wide range of colors, wood structures, finishes, carpets and upholstery. This newly launched model features a contemporary look and feel, with a light color scheme that meets her owner’s requirements.

A look at the most expensive superyachts at the Palm Beach yacht show and their insane features, from basketball courts on deck to ice baths and saunas

  • The Palm Beach International Boat Show kicks off later this week.
  • Eight megayachts are expected to be on display for would-be buyers and charter customers.
  • These are the show's biggest yachts — and how many millions of dollars they are going for.

Insider Today

The Palm Beach International Boat Show — the yacht world's flashiest event stateside — is returning this year with over 800 boats for both deep-pocketed potential owners and window shoppers to peruse.

While it's impossible to know what exactly will be on display until the show begins on Thursday, it's expected that eight megayachts — generally defined as ships over 60 meters long — will be docked at the show and at nearby marinas like the Rybovich Marina in the ritzy Florida town.

Some of these are for sale at eye-popping prices, but others are available to if in case you fancy living like a billionaire for a week or two this summer (and if you have six figures to spare on a vacation).

These are the eight biggest yachts that will be at the Palm Beach International Boat Show and nearby marinas, in size order.

Nero: 90.1 meters

Price: From $497,000 a week (charter) Standout features: Pizza ovens, beauty salon, massage room, resistance pool

Reportedly owned by Irish billionaire Denis O'Brien, Nero is modeled after J.P. Morgan's 1930s ship , and was built in 2007 and updated in 2021.

She now boasts a gym on her sundeck with multiple cardio machines and a beauty salon, and has an on-board beautician for manicure, pedicure, hair, and massage needs. There's also an upgraded movie theater, two new pizza ovens, and both a pool and a jacuzzi.

For those who want to go overboard, she has more than a dozen toys, including a waterslide, Jet Ski, and flyboard.

Victorious: 85 meters

Price: From $876,600 a week in the summer and $950,000 a week in the winter Standout features: Hammam (Turkish bath), wine cellar, wood-burning fireplace, children's playroom

Victorious brings a party vibe to the yacht show. With a beach club on board, a wine cellar, a cigar clubroom , multiple bars, and a lounge with a piano, the vessel is made for entertaining. Plus, there's a playroom and movie theater to entertain the kids.

For tamer charter clients, Victorious has a suite of wellness features such as a gym, massage room, beauty salon and hammam, or Turkish bath — perhaps a custom request of her owner, Turkish businessman Vural Ak.

She also boasts a treasure trove of water toys, including Jet Skis, jetsurfs, inflatable kayaks, and scuba equipment.

Casino Royale: 72 meters

Price: TBD Special Features: Infinity pool, helipad, private jacuzzi

Purchased and refitted by car dealer magnate John Staluppi last year, Casino Royale is the latest of his James Bond-inspired yachts (he's also owned an Octopussy and a Skyfall, among others).

Casino Royale has a helipad that turns into a dancefloor, an infinity pool, and a wellness center with a gym and sauna. The owner's cabin has its own deck, which features a private bar and jacuzzi.

However, the boat's price isn't listed, and while she's not necessarily officially for sale, that might change depending on who's prepared to buy, Mr. Bond.

Talisman C: 70.6 meters

Price: $60 million (or from $567,000 a week to charter) Special features: Massage and beauty room, private library

Likely the largest yacht for sale (not just charter) at the show, the Talisman C is a 2011 six-bedroom boat. The owner's cabin comes with an en suite bathroom, dressing room, private library, and crystal chandeliers.

Amenities include a gym, a beauty room, oversized jacuzzi, and a fully equipped bar. Her crew of 19 includes a trained masseuse, and the toy room comes equipped with a wakeboard, eFoil , and WaveRunners.

Joy: 70 meters

Price: From $650,000 a week Special features: Disco club, basketball court, onboard fitness instructor

Superyacht Joy testifies to the fact that owners want as many on-board experiences as they can get.

There's an expansive suite of fitness features, including a basketball court (don't shoot that hoop too hard!), a personal trainer on staff, boxing equipment, and a handful of machines. For post-workout winddowns, there's a spa with a steam room and onboard masseuse. And for entertainment, there's both an outdoor and indoor cinema, and a disco club.

Triumph: 65.4 meters

Price: From $707,600 a week in the summer and $650,000 a week in the winter Special features: Sauna, helipad, banana boat

This 2021 superyacht is named after Triumph motorcycles — a reported favorite of her rumored owner, British businessman Chris Dawson — and even has one on display as an art piece in the upper deck's lounge. The primary suite is 1,400 square feet and has its own study , and there's a sauna, an indoor-outdoor gym, a helipad, and a massage room spread among her six decks.

She boasts an "armada of water toys," including two kinds of Jet Skis, electric water bikes, and a banana boat.

Seanna: 64.5 meters

Price: $54,000,000 (or from $462,000 a week to charter) Special features: marble foyer, movie room, sundeck pool

The recently refurbished Seanna is available for sale and charter.

Her indoor-outdoor gym is on sea level so that passengers can take a dip after a session with the onboard personal trainer. There's also a sundeck pool, a helipad, a two-room massage facility, and, for the more cerebral guests, a library with an electric fireplace.

There are a number of toys on board, including a popular water trampoline and two WaveRunners.

Come Together: 60 meters

Price: $65,000,000 Special Features: DJ and videographer on board, ice bath, sauna

Next-to-new yacht Come Together is looking for a new owner after doing charters during the 2023 season.

The Beatles' influence is evident beyond the yacht's name, with guitars dotting the sky lounge and a crewmember who doubles as a DJ. There's also an outdoor cinema and bar for entertainment and an ice bath and sauna for the day after the party. The owner's suite has a private study and lounge, and each guest cabin has its own ensuite.

The sale includes a number of toys, like Jet Skis, kayaks, and Seabobs.

Kris jenner's sister, karen houghton, dead at 65, kris jenner's sister karen houghton dead at 65 ... kris pays tribute, exclusive 2.1k 3/19/2024 10:17 am pt.

12:14 PM PT -- The San Diego County Sheriff's Dept. tells TMZ that a call came in for medical aid around 1:30 PM PT Monday -- and that when deputies arrived, fire officials were already providing lifesaving measures for Karen Houghton ... who sadly passed away.

Unclear what medical incident precipitated the call.

Kris Jenner 's sister, Karen Houghton, has died ... TMZ has learned.

Law enforcement sources tell us Karen was reported as deceased to San Diego County officials Monday in San Marcos, CA. The exact circumstances of her passing are unclear, but we're told county officials are attributing her death to natural causes for now.

Karen was Kris' only sister -- sharing parents MJ and Robert Houghton -- and was born three years after the famed momager. Karen and Kris grew up in San Diego together, living predominantly with MJ after her divorce from the girls' father.

Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ Kris is very upset over the passing of her sibling -- and is also concerned about Karen's mother and niece. This is MJ's first loss of a child, so obviously it's devastating. We're told the family at large is rallying around each other.

Waiting for your permission to load the Instagram Media.

Kris addressed Karen's death on social media as well, with a sweet tribute that touched on their history and relationship ... remembering Karen fondly.

Despite the Kardashians' very public life, Karen has not played a major role in their reality TV fame ... as the sisters have had a somewhat complicated relationship over the years.

Karen went public with their issues back in 2014, alleging in an interview that Kris had changed since skyrocketing to A-list status. She also infamously weighed in on Kris' high-profile divorce from Olympian Caitlyn Jenner ... seemingly siding with her ex-in-law.

Then, in 2016, Karen made headlines for undergoing a five-hour facelift in order to look more like the Kardashian-Jenner matriarch -- ultimately pleased with the results, at the time.

A family truce seemed to be confirmed in 2019 -- when Karen and Kris posed for a photo with their mom MJ and their respective daughters, Natalie Zettel and Kylie Jenner , at Christmastime.

However, Karen hasn't been spotted with the family in recent years, having kept a low profile out of the limelight. She worked as a part-time nurse and an author before her death.

Karen is survived by her daughter -- who she welcomed with ex-husband Mark Zettel -- mother, sister and several nieces and a nephew. She was 65.
