This is the destination!!!! By Land or Sea! Regarding the spending comment from below, tell me where on Long Island can you go out to dinner where you spend less than 100 in one night. Getting chinese food delivered home is about 50. The spending chit is 120 per month! Add this with breathtaking views and ample free parking. This place takes the cake. The food, atmosphere are divine as well as you are welcomed by a bunch of hard working fellow Islanders' as members with one common interest FUN. This place will make you marvel at the 6.5 Rolling acres of tennis courts, swimming pool, tiki bar, 65 slip Marina. This is the Gem of the south shore! Chef Dana and the staff is nothing less than amazing as well. Bravo LIYC Bravo!

Came here post-Mayor's Cup sailboat race on Saturday. They had live music, a semi-open bar, and free hotdogs. The actual building is very pretty, and the grounds nicely kept. I am not a member of the Yacht Club, but do attend the awards ceremony for the Mayors Cup every year. Everyone is always extremely friendly, and it's always a great time.

I'm a current member as of 2014.. Very family friendly.. Great pool.. Stunning location.. Very relaxed feel.. But here lies the problem.. Food service is the issue!! With a $120 monthly minimum food and beverage, it's hard to stomach the poor service from the servers and the kitchen.. Slow slow slow service time and time again.. Tonight dinner was an embarrassment. For the 4rd straight time service took well over an hour and the food was all raw not under cooked but raw and cold.. One dinner took 1.45 and when the food did come out my guest's order was missing.. It showed up 30 min after my guests walked out! I can never bring a guest here.. My wife is embarrassed and doesn't want to return.. The GM is trying to correct the issues but I'm not seeing the results yet! At current I'm not returning next year!

My husband and I recently hosted our wedding celebration at the Long Island Yacht Club and we are so happy with our experience with the venue, the food, and the service! We are not members of the club (we live in California) but by a stroke of good fortune, we stopped by after last Labor Day and met Diane, the events coordinator. We learned that non-members could host events there during the off-season (and boy, is a January wedding off-season!). We loved the recently repainted and remodeled gathering space, which has two fireplaces, a separate bar area, as well as large round dining tables and couches. There are tons of windows, so the space was bright and well-lit (which is better than a lot of banquet spaces we looked at in the area). We felt like we were hosting our family in our home - Diane did a fantastic job creating a comfortable, welcoming environment. Chef Matt prepared a great buffet (we had a lot of options to choose from), amazing appetizers and dessert. With the help of a local florist, we added some small decor, we brought our own sheet cake, and that was really all the coordinating we had to do. They have the ability to display a slideshow and play a Spotify playlist, so we showed pics from our wedding in California. All in all, we're so happy we met Diane and were able to host exactly the kind of classy party we wanted.

Love this place. I have eaten dinner here a number of times with both family and friends. The facilities and grounds have undergone a major change under the new ownership. Please don't confuse this with older posts that speak to a minimum spend per month imposed upon members. That is not the case. As far as the dining goes I had the best duck I have ever eaten in my life and I've had it in quite a few places. The crab cakes were amazing and the short ribs were to die for. This is a terrific place and anyone living in Babylon Village should explore a membership as the LIYC is truly a gem.

What a shame! Shame on this so called Yacht club! It was so evident that this so called friendly yacht club has its biased KKK officers running the show. Executive Committee Commodore, John Sparagano Vice Commodore, Steve Vid Rear Commodore, Ken Jacobs Secretary,Jeanette Marino Treasurer, Brian Richmond The club is not filled with relatively few boats but that is because of the small minds running the place. My fiance requested info and was invited to an open house. They bought him drinks, food, showed him the place and welcomed him with open arms. When I came along with him and the so called application which was told to him to be a mere formality not to worry you are part of our family! You guessed it I come with him and all of a sudden they have to vote to see if he is a good match for the club I AM BLACK! The boat is in my name, I am a professional and my fiance is out of work and a little down on his luck that is why we were going to join the club........well not now! This is a clear case of bias and should not be tolerated I wonder if the Reverend Al Sharpton owns a boat?

North Shore Yacht Club Logo

Rich in history, the North Shore Yacht Club, established in 1871, is one of the three oldest yacht clubs on Long Island.

The Club is for people who love sailing, with membership classes and fees that are a fraction of the cost of other yacht clubs and marinas. Its fleet consists almost exclusively of sailboats, ranging from small one-designs to ocean-going vessels. We boast diverse membership classes that meet the needs of experienced cruisers, blue water racers, new sailors, junior sailors program, and even a loaner program for those without a boat.

The Club offers a well-sheltered mooring area protected by land on three sides, with quick and easy access to the Sound and to beautiful Port Washington and its amenities…all supported by world-class launch service. Members enjoy an active social and education calendar without all of the extraneous costs that other clubs charge for facilities little used by sailors.  Most of all, members enjoy the camaraderie, shared experiences and development of lifetime friendships with fellow sailors all within the backdrop of its comfortable clubhouse on beautiful Manhasset Bay.

Not an experienced sailor?  Have no boat?  Not to worry!  The Club boasts a Boat share program for adults where one can learn to sail and share a boat at one’s own pace and even aspire to a boat of one’s own. Additionally, the Club has a Junior Sailing Program for aspiring fledgling Skippers.  Both Programs enable these members to enjoy the yacht club experience at a very affordable price.

Orienta Yacht Club

F ounded in 1907, the Orienta Yacht Club is one of the oldest and most distinctive Clubs on Long Island Sound. We are located in the scenic and well-protected East Basin of Mamaroneck Harbor, easily accessible through a well-marked, deep water channel. Mamaroneck is a gateway to great fishing, sailboat racing, cruising and just plain “messing about in boats.”

Our members include both power-boaters and sailors who welcome the opportunity to work on their own boats, which is typically not allowed in commercial boatyards.

Our members serve alongside skilled professionals in our yard when their yachts are hauled and launched. We can refer you to a roster of valued craftspeople who can handle all the work, too. Plus there are three full-service boatyards, fuel and pumpout facilities nearby. Orienta Yacht Club is a friendly place distinguished by member participation in every aspect of Club life—from staffing work parties, planning social events and cruises, to taking on major upgrades to our facilities and equipment.

I have kept my boat on the North Shore in the Long Island Sound for the last 2 years. However, I live on the South Shore and would love to have easier access to my boat. Does anyone know of sailing friendly yacht clubs on the South Shore in Nassau County?

yacht club in long island

The Great South bay is pretty shallow and there are few anchorages on the South Shore. It's not a place for a deep draft sailboat.

yacht club in long island

What size boat do you have, and draft? Sheepshead Bay Yacht Club has a pretty friendly group. Not sure if that make your drive any better.

vbiz59 said: Sailing and sailing clubs west of Robert Moses state park are mostly non-existent as there is no water and a long trek thru marsh channels to either the Jones or E.Rockaway inlets. There are some locations In Red Hook, or Graves End, Bklyn and the Brooklyn Bridge Club if you care for the area. What there is of the Great south bay west of RM has average mean soundings of 1' East of RM which is firmly in Suffolk county, you have Bayshore, Oakdale and Sayville yacht clubs respectively which are not to everyone's taste. Alternatively a host of marina's and private dockage exist. Conditions/depths in the GSB east of RM go from 3.5-15' being markedly shallower nearing the edges As you know larger vessels normally steer clear of the south shore as they can't steer into it. Any draft over 3.5' and you need to know where you are. It's a small pool. Click to expand...

South Bay Cruising Club – SBCC

sbccsail.org

I understand you investigating the options on the south shore. There are spots in the GS Bay where larger sailboats can sail, but the options are very limited compared to LI Sound. Yes you can go out into the ocean, but then you will be dealing with an inlet. Consider this change carefully.

I don't think any deep fin boats are going to be sailing in the Great South Bay... water is too thin for that. Even the ferry to Fire Island uses a dredged channel. Further, there are few protected harbors / anchorages. You see power boats going from south shore to FI... and some smaller day sailors. Consider the "length" of the coastline there are remarkable few decent spots to anchor. There is decent sailing "between the forks" and some excellent land "attractions". I moored in Dering Harbor and Stirling Harbor for years and enjoyed East End sailing. The run from the 1GI buoy to East Hamptom was a bean reach both ways and only a few hrs sail. The run to BI was 35 miles... a nice sail for the day. Fishers Island was also a great location to sail to and Newport if you had the 11 or so hrs.

I belong to the South Bay Cruising Club on the South Shore of Long Island. We have no club house, but we race off Bay Shore and Babylon, with the Bay Shore yacht Club and Babylon Yacht club. Both those clubs are nice. Most of us use marinas to keep the boats at, and sail to club activities. You can also look up Sayville Yacht Club and Bellport Yacht Club. A 4 ft. draft is a practical max for the bay, although many have deeper drafts. Fred4936

Just an addendum: I used to live in Nassau years ago. For good sailing you need to go to Suffolk. The is a club called Unqua Corinthian in Amityville, but sailing has died there, mostly motorboats and party goers. There is a club in Hewlett, but I do not know much about them.
