9 INCREDIBLE Yacht Charters in Turkey (2024)

The coastline of Turkey spans over 8,000 kilometres and borders the Mediterranean Sea, the Aegean Sea, the Black Sea and the Marmara Sea. The stretch is dotted with charming fishing villages, medieval ruins and stunning landscapes.

The conditions are ace all year round for sailing a yacht charter in Turkey, though summer is a particularly special time to explore the secluded bays and plunge into the turquoise water.

We get that yachting has a reputation for being one of the more expensive and elite sports around.

However, yachting is not only for the folk who have their own boats. Why should we let them have all the fun? We don’t happen to own a yacht on the coast of Turkey either.

Lucky for all of us, we know how we can charter or hire a boat in Turkey so we can all experience the best of boat life. We’ve done our research and found ways you can get out on a yacht no matter your budget.

Whether it’s a private, all-exclusive luxury yacht charter or a boat tour where you share the experience with others, we’re sure we have selected the best yacht charters in Turkey.

We’ve already mentioned the crystal clear water, secluded bays, rich culture and the warm weather in the summer months. Those reasons top our list of why you should charter a yacht in Turkey, but it’s not all on the list.

Not only is Turkey a damn beautiful destination to get out on a yacht, but it also offers a rich cultural experience. The country has been shaped over the centuries by the ancient Greeks, Macedonians, Ottomans, and the Romans. This diverse influence is even clear while sailing the coast, where you’ll come across ancient tombs, castle ruins and historic cities that have since been claimed by the sea.

Whether you’re a nature lover or a cultural traveller, a yacht charter in Turkey will bring you something special. That sounds like a pretty sweet way to celebrate an occasion or have a unique travel experience, right?

If all the magic of Turkey isn’t enough for you, you can even pop over to the Greek islands as they are only a short boat trip away.

Turkey is a big country, and there are plenty of charming spots along the coastline that are ideal for a yacht trip. We’ve narrowed it down to three top destinations where you can do this, and do it damn well.

Here are our picks for the best yacht charters in Turkey, in the dreamy destinations of Bodrum, Marmaris and Fethiye.

On Turkeys West Coast coast you’ll find Bodrum, a top tourist destination known for its medieval castle, beaches and sailing. Bodrum’s built history dates back further than the 4th Century BC. It is a popular destination for those backpacking Turkey and has a thriving party scene at night.

In Bodrum, you can divide your time between exploring the historical ruins and enjoying the stunning coves from your yacht charter.

The Most Affordable Yacht Charter in Bodrum – 85’ Gulet

85 Gulet Turkey

The experience comes with a welcome cocktail on arrival, fresh towels and linens, plus fuel for four solid hours of cruising.

This 85-foot yacht has a super cute design and decor. There is wooden panelling on the interior and exterior, and a happy yellow colour scheme throughout. You’ll get to cruise along the coast with an expert crew who know the area and its rich boating history like the back of their hands

When we say over the top luxury, we ain’t kidding. The cost to charter this boat for a week would be a decent house deposit in a big city.

The charter includes six professional crew members, including a chef, so you’ll have all your wants and needs tended to while you explore the Turkish coast.

There’s not much that this Turkey yacht charter doesn’t have. It comes with a tender boat and fishing gear so you can nick off to quiet and secluded spots. There’s also a jet ski, water inflatables, kayaks, standup paddleboards, wakeboards, kneeboards and electric scooters (why would you need an electric scooter on a boat? Who cares!).

The interior could feature on an MTV cribs episode, with sleek decor and mood lighting. Each cabin is airconditioned, has a satellite TV, a music system, a safe box, a spacious wardrobe and a home-style toilet. Yep, they didn’t cut any corners here. The bedrooms even have a desk, so those who need to can get a bit of work done to help cover the expenses.

There are staff on board who can bring you unlimited local drinks to your sunbed. The cost includes lunch, beverages, hotel pickup, and dropoff. The only reason that this experience comes at such a low cost is that you share the experience with others who book the tour.

This tour is a super affordable way to experience the beauty of boat life without breaking the bank.

The beautiful port city of Fethiye is located on Turkey’s Turquoise Coast in the southwest. It’s a top destination for boating, with a natural harbour, sparkling blue water and islands off the coast that are popular with day-trippers.

Most Affordable Yacht Charter in Fethinye – 44’ Bavaria Cruiser

44 Bavaria Cruiser Turkey

  • Optional sailing lessons
  • 6 Passengers

This 44 foot Bavaria Cruiser is the ultimate choice for those who want to charter a yacht in Turkey but don’t want to ruin their wallet. Foodies and those keen on learning the ropes of a sailboat will be particularly interested in this one, stay tuned.

The skipper of this Fethiye yacht charter is renowned in these parts for his excellent regional cooking. The crew pride themselves on cooking up a storm and serving meals while anchored in beautiful bays while making sure each night is special and unique.

If learning how to sail is something that floats your boat, your captain and skipper offer sailing lessons too. Who knows, maybe you’ll be hooked and will want to hire your next yacht bareboat (no captain or crew) and do a DIY sailing trip.

This yacht charter offers a wholesome local experience at a very reasonable cost. Split between six, the deal is even sweeter.

Best Overnight Yacht Charter in Fetinye – Lagoon 500 Catamaran

Lagoon 500 Catamaran Turkey

  • Great for longer trips

There’s a lot to do on a yacht along the Turkish coast. From the ancient ruins dotted along the coastline to secluded bays, the longer you have on board, the more you’ll get to experience.

This Lagoon 500 catamaran gets our pick for the best overnight yacht charter in Turkey. They specialise in overnight trips and week-long rentals. A week-long trip with 10 mates aboard sounds like a pretty epic holiday to us.

A longer rental often works out as a much lower cost per day than single-day charters. Plus, it’s a unique and exciting way to travel.

The catamaran has four cosy bedrooms with big windows and views out over the big blue. There are four bathrooms, a kitchen, and multiple dining areas.

The star of the show is the net hammock that stretches between the two hulls. On a longer charter, you’ll have plenty of time to chill here, get stuck into your holiday by reading and catch some rays.

You’ve got all you need to feel at home on the sea, though remember, your job is to sit back and relax. When you charter a yacht in Turkey, the captain and crew are there to work out all the logistics.

Best Yacht Charter with Watersports – Wooden Deluxe Gulet

Wooden Deluxe Gulet Turkey

  • Full access to watersport gear

If water sports are your thing, this epic Fethiye yacht charter has all the good stuff included. You get full access to the jet ski, snorkel gear, banana boat, waterskis, wakeboard, kneeboard, canoes and fishing equipment. An impressive list, right? You’ll be able to cruise the coast of the Aegean Sea and try some new skills aboard this beauty.

Perfect your kneeboard or wakeboard 360 spins. Wrestle with your best friend and see who gets thrown off the tube first. You’re gonna have a blast.

While it is the impressive amount of watersport equipment that caught our attention with this one, the yacht itself is a true beauty. She is a 131-foot traditional wooden gulet. This is a great choice for bigger groups and parties, with space for 16 guests and eight separate cabins with their own bathroom.

A day out on this yacht charter is bound to be a damn good time and a sweet way to spend some time on the water in Fethiye.

Yacht Turkey

  • Eat Delicious Food – Many yacht charters in Turkey come with a chef on board, and amazing Turkish meals can be arranged for you by your crew. Eating Turkish food in Turkey is a must, why not try something new on a yacht?
  • Go swimming – Taking a plunge into the crystal clear water and is a must, for obvious reasons!
  • Drinks on deck – No need to worry about who will drive home, everything is taken care for you on a yacht charter. Enjoy a cold drink (or several) on the yacht, you’re on holiday after all.
  • Try Raki – On the same topic, If you want to embrace Turkish culture, you’ve gotta try their national alcoholic drink. Raki, also known as Lion’s Milk, is a spirit made of twice distilled grapes and aniseed. It’s flavour is similar to Ouzo, so it packs a punch. This is commonly enjoyed to celebrate special occasions like birthdays and weddings or to commiserate over a broken heart. Surely a fancy yacht charter on the Turkish coast is reason enough to celebrate?
  • Snorkeling and scuba diving – Bring a snorkel along (or use the one on board if it’s included) and explore what is under the surface of the water. If you want to explore a little deeper, check out the scuba diving tours that run out of Marmaris!
  • Watch the sunset – Nothing beats watching the sunset to top off an amazing day. Except watching the sunset on a private yacht charter to top off an amazing day. It doesn’t get much better than that.
  • Play on a jetski – Cruising about on a yacht is damn cool, but the adrenaline rush you get from a jetski ride is another story. Anyone who has been on a jetski before can tell you – it’s a whole lotta fun. A few of the yachts mentioned on this list include jetski access as a part of their package, though you can always chat with your captain and crew in advance while you organise your yacht charter, perhaps they can arrange one for you.
  • Watersports – Have you ever tried watersports like waterskiing, tubing, kneeboard or wakeboarding? Just like the adrenaline rush you get on a jetski, watersports will bring your day up a level or 10. Check which yacht charters have watersport equipment included, like this one!

There you have it folks, these are our picks for the top Yacht Charters in Turkey. Whether you opt for a trip in Marmaris, Bodrum or Fethiye or choose to explore somewhere else along Turkey’s gorgeous coastline, you won’t regret a yacht trip here – it is by far, one of our favourite things to do in Turkey.

And if you didn’t find what you’re looking for, well there is a whole heap of boats listed on Sailo. They’ve got boats listed worldwide, from Turkey to Australia and the Caribbean.

If you haven’t found something on this list that suits your budget and travel style, go wild and browse through all the options on Sailo!

Great boat saw so many pretty places the food was excellent and plentiful. However, I could feel the captains reluctance to follow the rout given and his comments were sometimes unkind about us asking to use the tender to go ashore, he said it’s not a taxi and I asked for help to put the side safes up as I couldn’t do it alone he said “ I do it” his attitude wasn’t the best sadly

Blue Lagoons Tour

Blue Lagoons

This is a very relaxed Sail through the Turkish Riviera. There were 3 Topdeck boats run by Alaturka Sailing. There are no guides on board the boats, but we were lucky as our crew spoke English. The 3 boats were split up via age groups. This was good as most of the people on your boat had similar expectations and want to party. There are opportunities for the boats to mix only a couple of times - on a night out in the town of Kas and at Smugglers Cove. Other than that you aren't allowed to go on other boats. Each day on the boat is quite similar. Wake up, swim, breakfast, swim, lunch, swim, afternoon tea, swim, dinner, swim, happy hour and drinks to follow. It is a very relaxing trip, people read and listen to music during the day. All food is provided; it was plentiful and amazing. Each breakfast is a standard turkish breakfast, lunch is always vegetarian and dinner is either fish/chicken/beef. I would recommend this trip to anyone. Everyone on our boat had a great time, we all got along well and no one wanted to leave the boat.

Turkey Yachting Adventure

Sailing, history and cultural exploration of istanbul, ephesus and the lycian shore of the turquoise coast. 12 days including 7 days/ 6 nights aboard a traditional wooden motor sail yacht..

This was our very first international destination in 1984. ROW Founders Betsy and Peter led all our departures in Turkey from 1984 through 1991. Since 1992 we’ve had superb Turkish guides lead our adventures.

One of our guests’ favorite journeys, this trip combines time in Istanbul, an exploration of Ephesus and then travel aboard a traditional motor/sail yacht - the ideal way to explore this remote corner of the world that is difficult to access by any other means. This adventure cruise is a wonderful blend of active exploration on land, walking through Greek and Roman ruins, swimming, and exploring small coastal villages.

For centuries, travel by boat has been a tradition in the Mediterranean. It's easy to imagine the life of the early seafarers as you stand on the deck of our handmade wooden yacht. The words of Homer and the Greek myths take on new life. The experience is certainly romantic and one of the great advantages is that you don't have to pack and unpack every day, giving you more time and energy to enjoy your vacation and spend time doing the things you want to do.

As we travel beneath towering mountains falling vertically into crystal blue seas, we visit quaint Turkish villages, hidden rock coves, wooded inlets and magnificent ruins of the Roman, Greek, Byzantine and Ottoman empires. Few places in the world have such a rich mix of culture and history as in Turkey, which our local guides bring to life as we travel.

Some nights we anchor in remote bays where you may want to hike among the rocks and pines or swim and relax on a deserted beach. Water temperature should be around 77-80 degrees in September and air temperatures in a 85-90 degrees in the day, and 60-70 at night. Theres ample time for swimming and snorkeling.

On a few nights we tie up in the marina of small towns to stroll along the waterfront and savor the local color in neighborhood cafes. The Turks are wonderful people; friendly, open and honest. They are eager to learn about our country and equally eager to share their own.

We travel aboard a beautiful traditional gulet (pronounced goo – let), handmade in Turkey, ranging from 70-85’ in length, with six to nine cabins. The wide beam of these handsome boats provides plenty of comfort and space. The dining area is on the stern deck of the boat, covered with an awning. From this deck a doorway leads to the kitchen/wheelhouse/sitting salon. From the salon there are three stairs down, leading to a hallway from which you enter the cabins. Some of the cabins feature double beds, some two single beds side by side. Each cabin has a private bathroom. There is plentiful deck space for sunning and relaxing. The atmosphere aboard is casual and some people may enjoy sleeping on deck under the starlit sky.

While wind conditions on our yachting trips can be quite variable, the seas are usually calm. People who get seasick need not worry. In order to maximize the time available for exploration, we normally travel under motor power, occasionally raising the sails when wind conditions permit (admittedly this is rare). Normally, we travel about 3-4 hours each day, with the remainder of our time spent ashore or enjoying the comfort of the yacht and swimming in the idyllic seas.

Traditional Turkish meals, on and off-board, are prepared from an array of fresh vegetables, fruit, dairy goods, lamb, and freshly caught fish. Turkish cuisine has a reputation for being among the finest in the world. Both red and white wine is excellent, as is the local beer.

We’ve had people of all ages on these journeys. There is the freedom to participate in as much or little as you like. Whether your interest is in Greco-Roman history, modern Turkish culture, swimming, snorkeling, hiking, lazing in the sun or all the above, you’ll find this to be a delightful adventure.

People who wouldn’t normally consider a group tour find that these trips attract other independent travelers who are curious and fun traveling companions who have chosen to take advantage of ROW’s expertise in planning and executing a wonderful, worry-free vacation. Our extraordinary guides take you to see many places not mentioned in guidebooks and open doors to opportunities you’d never have on your own. From them you’ll learn about Turkish history and culture and be treated as a special guest.

While we generally follow the itinerary, the beauty of traveling with a small group is the opportunity to be flexible as we continue to find new places each departure, making each trip unique. Since we are not committed to a strict schedule, we can take advantage of new discoveries that we make along the way, stopping to enjoy a festival, a special wedding invitation, or whatever else might present itself to us. There is ample opportunity for walking on this trip, and the option of staying on the boat rather than going on the walks or hikes, is always available.

TURKEY'S LYCIAN SHORE -

On this itinerary, we start with two nights in Istanbul, visit Ephesus, and spend 7 days and 6 nights aboard our Turkish gulet , returning to Istanbul for one final night. The cruise takes place along the shores of ancient Lycia. The Lycians were a fiercely independent people who settled the area around the 15th century BC. As the landscape is wild, so were the Lycians, the last peoples to be incorporated into the Roman provinces in Asia Minor. They are mentioned numerous times in various ancient histories and throughout our voyage we see remains of their civilization; mostly in the form of extravagant, grandiose tombs. In the mid-19th century the British took many of their finest works and these may be seen in the British Museum in London in the Xanthian Room. Fortunately, there remain many on location to this day.

The mystery of their civilization and the wonder of their ruins are indeed an intriguing focal point for our adventure.

Day 0 - Fly USA to Istanbul

Fly in the day before the trip date. Because Istanbul is such a fascinating city we recommend you arrive a day or two early if possible. ROW can arrange any extra hotel nights and provide suggestions for itineraries or arrange private guided tours of the city.

Day 1- Evening Orientation and Dinner - Istanbul

Meet your local Turkish guide at our designated local hotel in the evening for a welcome dinner and orientation meeting. Overnight accommodations in Istanbul.

ACCOMMODATION : Istanbul Hotel such as Decamondo or similar

MEALS INCLUDED : Dinner

Day 2 - Istanbul

For sixteen centuries, Istanbul was the metropolis of the Eastern Mediterranean. We spend the day exploring a few of the highlights of this inexhaustibly fascinating city. We will include as many sites as we can depending on the day of the week and what is open. The Topkapi Palace built in 1486 housed Ottoman Sultans for nearly 400 years. Overlooking the Sea of Marmara where the Golden Horn meets the Bosphorus the setting is ideal and it is easy to imagine Sultans spending their days and nights in this eclectic city. The Aya Sofya (Sancta Sophia) is one of the greatest domes in Christendom and was considered the architectural wonder of its time when built 536 AD. It is reminiscent of St. Peter’s in Rome and St. Paul’s in London. Across the Hippodrome, the towering minarets and exquisite blue Iznik tiles that adorn it, make a visit to the Blue Mosque a must. Built for Sultan Ahmet in 1619, it is Istanbul’s most famous mosque. We encourage you to spend extra time in Istanbul to explore and appreciate its many wonders.

ACCOMMODATION : Istanbul Hotel - Decamondo or similar

MEALS INCLUDED : Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3 - Istanbul to Izmir to Şirince Village

After a morning flight from Istanbul to Izmir, we drive about an hour to Kusadasi and the area around Ephesus. We will visit the Ephesus museum that sets the stage for understanding the history of this fabulous city. There are several other sites to visit such as the tomb of St. John, Artemission and more. In the latter afternoon we go to a cozy inn nestled in the hills by the village of Sirince. There’s time to walk in their gardens and take a swim in the pool. Later we gather for dinner at the hotel.

ACCOMMODATION : Sirince Village Boutique Hotel

Day 4 – Ephesus and Şirince Village

Today we explore the marvelous classical site of Ephesus, the fabulously preserved Biblical city where St. Paul and St. John lived.  It takes little imagination to understand the glory of the Roman Empire and to recreate the daily lives of the people who lived here more than 2,000 years ago.  Ephesus is easily one of the best-preserved cities of the Roman Empire, with Greek roots. A highlight is an area of ancient mosaic-floored homes where some of the wealthier inhabitants lived, as well as the library, public baths and various temples. The city lost its importance as the Kaystos river silted in and ships were no longer able to reach the port. Be prepared to walk several miles in this extensive area.

Later in the day, for those interested we will explore the nearby village

Day 5 – Ephesus - Göcek

This morning we begin our drive to Göcek, a small harbor town. As we drive south, if time allows, we stop and visit Priene, a significant site because it remained entirely Greek, never changed by the Romans. By late afternoon we board our yacht and go to a nearby cove to dip into the Mediterranean.  We enjoy our first of many feasts on board with tonight’s dinner.

ACCOMMODATION : On Board

Day 6 - Göcek to Agalimani Cove

Spend the morning by cruising towards the Sunken Roman Bath Cove by exploring the coves of Göcek, snorkeling in the sunken Roman bath. After lunch we start our hike into the red pines towards Lydae, a remote Lycian site with no access by roads. Then, we continue hiking to meet our boat with spectacular views of Fethiye Bay.

Day 7 - Fethiye-Pinara-Kayakoy and Gemiler Island

Today is an inspiring day of history and discovery! We depart early from the yacht and drive to Pinara, perched atop the mountains in the most spectacular setting of any Lycian city in the Xanthus valley. According to Herodotus, the Lycians came to this remote coastal area in the 15th Century B.C.E., from the island of Crete. A massive wall of simple tombs has been carved into the cliffs, giving the look of a honeycomb. Several impressive temple tombs as well as the remains of a temple of Aphrodite add to the excitement of this magical ruin. From Pinara we drive to the old Greek city of Kayakoy that was deserted in the population exchange of 1923. It remains today as an eerie ghost town and graphic example of the injustice of war.  After lunch in Kayakoy we take another hike and by day’s end rejoin our yacht anchored in a remote cove.  We have time to enjoy a nice evening swim in our beautiful anchorage. Time permitting we hike to Gemiler Island for sunset.

MEALS INCLUDED : Breakfast, Lunch

Day 8 - Gemiler-Kalkan-Xanthos-Yayla-Kas

A very early morning (not to worry, you can keep sleeping as the boat motors east) sail past the “Seven Capes”, a lonely stretch of coastline with no anchorage or protection from storms. Fortunately, there are typically no storms at this time of year but nevertheless our captain will be anxious to travel early to avoid any winds. We travel about four hours to a lovely harbor just outside the village of Kalkan where you may enjoy a swim and take an optional hike to an impressive aqueduct of Roman origin. We are met by a minibus for another fabulous road trip to the interior. We visit the spectacular Lycian and Greek/Roman ruins of Xanthos. Xanthos, the ancient capitol of Lycia became famous in antiquity for its great resistance to General Harpagus who attacked in the 6th century B.C. Here is the famous Tomb of the Harpies whose reliefs were taken by the British in 1838. The rich and colorful history of Xanthos is brought to life by the numerous sculpted tombs found in the necropolis depicting scenes of the day. We’ll enjoy a couple of hours at this extensive site.

Then, we’ll continue high into the mountains to visit a small village, called a yayla and enjoy a lunch in a village house. This is a trip highlight for many passengers. Afterwards, we drive about two hours east to Kas. (pronounced Kaash.) Kas is the quintessential Mediterranean fishing village. Children row small boats, practicing for the day when they too will become fishermen. Narrow streets wind among simple houses. Great restaurants, a Roman amphitheater and a tempting pastry shop are a few of the attractions of this colorful picturesque seaside town. Dinner on your own in town.

Day 9 - Kas-Aperlae-Kekova

At Aperlae, we snorkel in crystal waters over sunken ruins and walk among the fallen stones of this one time member of the Lycian League. Nearby, the remote area, called Kekova, is one of the most beautiful and interesting places along the entire southwest coast of Turkey.  Here we find two small fishing villages, which were without electricity until 1985. The village of Kale is crowned with a crusader castle, which commands a spectacular view across the bay, and up to the mountains.  Across the bay we visit Tersane, where you may snorkel over sunken city walls that were above water before the land tilted sometime in the past 2,000 years.

Day 10 - Exploring Kekova

After breakfast, there is an option to sea kayak along the sunken island of Kekova. (3-4 hours). More wonderful walking, swimming, sunning and exploring. Time to absorb the many wonders you’ve experienced.  We overnight again in this delightful area.

Day 11 - Depart yacht in the morning and travel from Üçağız Village about 2.5 hours to the airport in Dalaman

From here we take a return flight to Istanbul.  There’s some free time to explore the city and in the evening we meet for our festive farewell dinner.

ACCOMMODATION : Istanbul Hotel Decamondo or similar

MEALS INCLUDED : Breakfast, Dinner

Day 12 - Return Home or Extend Your Trip in Istanbul or visit Cappadocia

Today you may take a taxi to the airport (about $25-35) or the tram, for flights out. Or we highly recommend an extension to Cappadocia (see below).

*Note: Our time in Istanbul is meant to show you the highlights of this fabulous city and “get your feet on the ground.” We recommend you spend at least one more day there if possible and ROW can arrange any extra hotel nights or guide services you might desire.

Cappadocia Extension  - If you only have time to visit one other region of Turkey, this is the one you should see.  With a magical moonscape set beneath two ancient volcanoes, accented by cylindrical volcanic ash columns called "fairy chimneys" by the Turks, this area has a fascinating history.  You'll visit underground towns carved over 1000 years ago, as well as monasteries and churches carved inside the ash columns and painted with frescoes dating to the 8th century.

Please Note: 4-day extensions are designed to run after our trips.  Without exception, every one of our guests who have been to Cappadocia has said "it should not be missed!"  Please make sure to ask for our Cappadocia extension itinerary for further details.

Unique Hybrid Experience

This trip began with a fascinating in-depth taste of Istanbul followed by the discovery of the impact of ancient civilizations and cultures continuing to the present time. Our talented archaeologist narrated and made the ruins come alive with humor and honest acknowledgement of the repeated foibles of humans! After this exciting first half of the journey we were treated to the pure pleasure of yachting for the second part of our Turkey experience. The warm, buoyant waters of the Mediterranean permitted refreshment several times each day - floating easily, swimming amid wonderful views of villages, mountains and cloudscapes. The hikes were personalized as our guide kept meeting individuals that she knew from her past growing up in the Lycean region... I travelled with my adult son and it was rewarding to share an adult adventure that was unique to both of us.

A new experience in a favorite travel country!

My third trip to different parts of Turkey, and first time to explore the southern Lycian shore. A very informative (and humorous!) guide for the yachting days who lived aboard and made the history and culture of the whole region a daily treat. One day we kayaked a region where an ancient earthquake had tumbled half a town into the sea, and many hikes introduced participants to both nature and spectacular still-visible evidence of civilizations past. Food on board was great, always reflecting the Turkish regional cuisine. Altogether a very satisfactory experience!

Exceeds Expectations!

We found Turkey to be a fascinating country and this trip was the perfect way to experience it! The local guides ROW works with add so much interesting information and flavor to the trip. One day you are in Istanbul with its 15 million people learning ancient and modern history, then you find yourself nestled in a beautiful mountain top hotel for a relaxing evening and a few days later you are having lunch on a family farm in a town of 200. Traveling on a beautiful wooden yacht gives you an intimate and personal view of Turkey, its important sites and its people. We also highly recommend the Cappadocia extension, its unique geography, different cuisine and history were definitely worth the experience!

What is a bosphorus cruise.

A Bosphorus cruise is a yacht/boat trip along the 32km long Bosphorus Strait in Istanbul which connects the Black Sea with the Marmara Sea between the two continents of Europe and Asia. It’s an essential part of any trip to Istanbul and the geography and sightseeing is absolutely unique.

Unmissable Sights during a Bosphorus Cruise of Istanbul

bosphorus cruise istanbul

Taking a Bosphorus Cruise through the ages

In any Istanbul tour, it’s essential to include a Bosphorus cruise, as the Bosphorus and its shores are by far the most beautiful part of Istanbul, a “garland of waters” bounding and dividing the city and offering incomparable views and places to see including nature, geography, history and sightseeing.

The Bosphorus has been described in many beautiful ways throughout history by poets, travellers, royals and diplomats. Here’s a few of them:

“A garland of waters” – Byzantine historian Procopius (AD 500-565)

“Istanbul is a magical seal, which unites Europe and Asia since the ancient times. Without a doubt, Istanbul is certainly the most beautiful place of the world”. Gerard De Nerval

“Life can’t be all that bad,’ i’d think from time to time. ‘Whatever happens, i can always take a long walk along the Bosphorus.”― Orhan Pamuk, Istanbul: Memories and the City

To understand Istanbul is to understand how its maritime nature and unusual geography has influenced its character and history to shape how it is today. And to cruise Istanbul by boat includes some of the best things to see and do in Istanbul:

Things to See on a Bosphorus Cruise

There are many ways of cruising possible depending on your budget and preferences from the basic Turyol, Dentur and Sehir Hatlari ferries to private yacht tours like Zoe Yacht.

Alighting your boat from any of several docks, a typical Bosphorus cruise will take you on a loop of Istanbul’s most striking monuments through the Bosporus Strait. At over 30 meters long, you can cover almost half of the strait in a short-circle cruise (2 hours), or all of it in a full-circle or long cruise (4-6 hours). Depending on your starting point, you may enter and exit this sightseeing loop at any point and take a cruise past the following touristic places:

In the lower Bosphorus, close to Sultanahmet Old City and the downtown center is Kabataş , a bustling transfer hub for land and sea. Just beyond is the Dolmabahce Mosque and its baroque clocktower, dating from the 1850s and designed by the Balyan Brothers, famous Amenian architects of the period.

This is followed by the Dolmabahce Palace , or “Filled In Garden”, taking its name form its small inlet which was filled in to create this imperial palace and which later replaced Topkapi Palace as the Sultans’ preferred residence. Built in the 19 th century it is one of the most glamorous palaces in the world and has a white marble façade of over 280 meters along the seafront.

Further on is Beşiktaş or “Cradle Stone” a busy town bursting with students and ferry landing port, followed by Ciragan Palace . Built for Sultan Abdul Aziz in 1874, he died here soon after being deposed and the palace housed his successors in a virtual prison for the next thirty years. It later served a brief stint as the place of Turkish Parliament in 1908, until it was burnt down in a fire and restored into one of the most luxury Istanbul hotels.

Passing the next village of Ortakoy, or Middle Village, look out for Ortakoy Mosque , a distinctive mosque in a mix of baroque and other styles jutting out on a promontory at the water’s edge, built by the Balyan brothers in 1854. Little cafes and a street market surround it making for a relaxing half day trip another day.

Marvel at the graceful First Bosphorus Bridge , the fourth largest suspension bridge in the world and built in the early seventies. It is 1,074 m (3,524 ft) long and was completed in 1973. This is one of the locals’ hidden places to make a wedding proposal in Istanbul, with a laser able to project personal messages for boat-goers under the bridge for a surprise. By night or under the moonlight, the bridge is lit in a rainbow of colors with beautiful reflections on the water.

Cruising on to Arnavutköy , this is a pretty Albanian village and one of the quaintest quays along the shore. Its seafront is lined with yalıs (wooden mansions from the Ottoman era), moored with fishing boats of every shape and size and numerous restaurants (including several of the best fish restaurants for seafood dining in Istanbul). Off Arnavutköy is the deepest point of the Bosphorus Strait at 100 meters, at the cape called Akıntı Burnu .

Rounding this cape, you’ll enter the calm waters of Bebek Bay , backed by verdant rolling hills, umbrella pines and cypresses, and home to some of Istanbul’s society and celebrities. Here yachts and mega-yachts abound. Gaze at the attractive Egyptian Embassy building with boats bobbing at the landing stage at the entrance of the village park. Up on the Northern ward hills are the Bosphorus University buildings, reputable as one of the finest institutions of higher learning in Turkey.

The cruise sweeps the bay and heads towards Rumeli Hisari Fortress, dominated by turrets and steep walls to keep out invaders. Situated at the narrowest point with 660 meters of the Bosporus strait, just opposite of the Anadolu Hisarı on the Anatolian side, another Ottoman fortress, which was built between 1393 and 1394. Known as “Boğaz-kesen” or cutthroat, it was not only used as a prison but as the perfect location for Sultan Mehmet to launch his conquest of Istanbul, cutting off the city’s communication beyond.

If you’re on a full-day or long Bosphorus Cruise, then you’ll also continue to Sariyer , a fishing village especially for catches from the Black Sea and Buyuk Lıman , a shallow and tranquil bay with a golden sandy beach surrounded by an acacia groved valley. This makes for an ideal stop in the summer for day trips and swimming tours.

Crossing to the Asiatic shore of the Middle Bosphorus at some point in your boat tour, you’ll glide under the the Fatih Sultan Mehmet (Bosphorus II) Bridge , ever famous in history as the location where King Darius of Persia constructed a bridge of boats from which to launch an attack in 512 BC and cross to the Asian Side. It is 1,090 m (3,576 ft) long, and was completed in 1988 about 5 km (3 mi) north of the first bridge. It forms part of the Trans-European Motorway.

Near the Northern end of the Bosphorus and entrance to the Black Sea, is Anadolu Kavagi village, a traditional fishing village. Perched on the hilltop above it is Yoros Castle , the Genoese ruins of fortifications from the 1780s, offering a superb viewpoint of almost the entire course of the Bosphorus from end to end, Marmara Sea to Black Sea. At 200 meters, this is the second highest hill on the Bosphorus, known today as “Joshua Hill”, or anciently as “Hercules Hill” or the “ Giant’s Grave “, due to a twelve-meter long hollow in the hill, and as in Byron’s poems:

“Tis a grand sight from off the Giant’s Grave To watch the progress of those rolling seas Between the Bosphorus…” (from a poem by G.G.N.Byron)

After a break hop on your Bosphorus boat cruise again and sail by the Bay of Beykoz or “Prince Walnut”, a calm bay and popular for swimming if you’re on a swimming cruise. In the past this was also a favorite location for catching swordfish using a traditional “ Dalyan “, a kind of wooden structure on stilts over the water with one man posted above to lookout for and heard any approaching swordfish into set fishing nets.

Cruise on Southwards to Kanlıca , an un-spoilt village with a square of plane trees, a famous stop for travellers throughout the ages for its local yogurt. En route you’ll see another hilltop landmark, a charming Art-Nouveau style palace with huge tower belonging to the Viceroy of Egypt from 1900, now a restored hotel with handsome gardens.

Around here you may notice an usual building on stilts in the water – Currently under restoration, this was once the beautiful front room of an exquisite yalı , dating from 1698, with elaborate design, including spectacular floral and geometric paneling and motifs.

Next up is the Anadolu Hısarı or Anatolian Fortress , right opposite the Rumeli Fortress. Built in 1390 by Beyazit the Thunderbolt it has a keep and three towers and was known locally as “Güzelce”, or “Pretty One.”

Now lookout for the mouth of the “ Sweet Waters of Asia “, two little streams called the “Göksu” (Sky Stream) and the Küçüksü (Little Stream) separated by a meadow and the Kucuksu Palace.

The seaside Kucuksu Palace was once an imperial residence for the Sultans dating from the 1850s and used as a base for hunting day trips or visiting signatories. Today it’s a museum.

Next to the palace is one of the largest yalıs of the Bosphorus, the Kıbrıslı Mustafa Emin Paşa Yalısı dating from 1760. With mostly one story and a façade over 60 meters long, it is one of the grandest yalıs with massive ball room, marble pool and fountain and its own harem.

Moving on, you’ll cruise by Kandilli , where the most beautiful series of Yalıs on the Bosphorus can be found, such as the Count Ostorog Yalı of 1790. Watch out for these and the pretty village of Çengelköy , its square surrounded by plane trees with a baroque fountain.

Continuing on our cruise, you’ll approach the 1st Bosphorus Bridge again. Near its base is the village of Beylerbeyi and Beylerbeyi Mosque , a baroque style mosque from the 1770s, followed by Beylerbeyi Palace itself, dating from the later 1800’s and built by the Balyan brothers. This was a sumptuous lodge to house visiting Royals, including the Shah of Persia and Emperors & Empresses from Europe.

Next look out for an attractive yalı that is at the pretty village of Kuzcuncuk , followed by the modern town and bustling ferry port at Uskudar . Just beyond here you’ll see a small man-made island in the sea, known as Maiden’s Tower , Leander’s Tower or Kız Kulesi, a major photo backdrop of the city and one of the best spots to see the sunset over Istanbul by boat.

This completes your sightseeing of the major landmarks and historical monuments during your scenic Bosphorus cruise.

Information, Facts & Figures about the Bosphorus

Some of the Bosphorus Strait facts include:

The world’s narrowest strait connects the Black Sea with the Sea of Marmara (which contains the Princes Islands and is connected by the Dardanelles to the Aegean Sea, and thereby to the Mediterranean Sea).

The strait is 31 km (17 nautical miles) long, with a width of 3,329 m (1.798 nautical miles).

Its maximum width is 3,420 m (1.85 nautical miles) between Umuryeri and Büyükdere Limanı.

The depth of the Bosphorus varies from 36 to 124 m (118 to 407 ft). The deepest location is between Kandilli and Bebek with 110 m (360 ft).

It is called the Bosphorus Strait rather than the Bosphorus River, as rivers don’t usually connect two seas or divide two continents.

Have You Seen These Bosphorus Highlights?

The Bosphorus Strait is a 32 km long strait winding between two continents, the European & Asian sides of Istanbul. Due to its unique geopraphy and history it offers unparalleled sightseeing from the water, for example:

  • 4 palaces – Ciragan, Beylerbeyi, Kucuksu Kasri and Dolmabahce Palace
  • 2 bridges – the Fatih Sultan Mehmet & Bosphorus Bridge
  • 2 fortresses – Anadolu & Rumeli Fortress
  • 50+ yalis (elaborate Ottoman mansions and pavilions by the waterside)
  • 1 royal hill – Seraglio Point with Topkapi Palace, Haghia Sophia & Blue Mosque
  • 2 islands – Maiden’s Tower & Suada Island
  • 2 seas – the Marmara Sea and Black Sea

We recently had the pleasure of booking a boat ride in Istanbul, and it turned out to be an absolutely delightful experience. Our main goal was to soak in the breathtaking views of the city and the iconic Bosporus Strait, and we were not disappointed. The boat itself was in impeccable condition, providing a comfortable and smooth ride throughout the journey. The crew on board was not only professional but also incredibly accommodating. They went above and beyond to ensure our comfort, offering a selection of snacks and drinks that added a touch of indulgence to the entire experience. Their friendly and helpful demeanor made the trip even more enjoyable. Ibrahim, our host, deserves special mention for his outstanding hospitality. From the moment we booked the boat, he was responsive and attentive, addressing any queries we had and making sure that we felt genuinely welcome. If you're looking for a relaxing and visually stunning experience in Istanbul, we highly recommend this boat tour. It's a fantastic way to explore the beauty of the Bosporus and create lasting memories.

A how-to manual for all you need to know about yacht charters: The yacht charter section provides equipment and further information about your sailing trip.

Turkey’s proximity to the Mediterranean Sea and the Aegean Sea, as well as its location on the Turkish coast, make it one of the greatest blue-tour destinations. Turkey is one of the top vacation spots to think about because of this.

Tourists seeking the sun, stunning scenery, historical sites, and high standards of decency flock to Turkey. The many tourist attractions in southwestern Turkey have become popular due to frequent flights to international airports.

In the summer, numerous travelers visit areas like Bodrum, Marmaris, Fethiye, and Gocek. These locations are all included in the Blue Tour itinerary.

Turkey is one of the greatest international possibilities for your upcoming trip because of its vibrant and hospitable culture. With its tranquil, turquoise waters in the eastern Mediterranean, Turkey is the ideal spot for your next journey.

The sixth-most popular tourist destination worldwide is Turkey. It has 16 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and this number is growing.

It is now clear why yacht routes are becoming more popular in the Turkish Sea. Turkey is the world’s top producer of contemporary superyachts and opulent gulets, boasting the most reputable shipyards. Choose from a variety of options, including classic Turkish gulets, luxurious motor boats, luxurious sailing yachts, cabin charters, and private yacht charters.

The luxurious Blue Tour in Turkey offers a variety of tour alternatives to suit any traveler. During the full-day yacht cruises, you can visit a historical village like St. Nicholas Island that has seen history, travel to a historic location like a hidden bay, or find hidden bays.

Your entire trip to Turkey would be an unforgettable journey, whatever you decide to do. With a private boat charter, every time you go out, you have a fresh, pleasurable, and unforgettable experience.

Prepare to go on a blue trip to Turkey, where you won’t be able to discover your soul mate among the picturesque villages and distinctive ultra-luxurious decks. Turkey might surprise you instead by allowing you to see historical monuments while living in peace, taking part in water sports, and simply roaming the streets.

CLASSIC SAILING YACHTS

Traditional sailing yachts are created in many factories across the world so that they can have various designs. This has led to the creation of both contemporary gulets and traditional sailing yacht designs. These yachts do share two characteristics, though: they are all 30 meters long, and at least one of them is a sailboat.

Sailing yachts that were expressly designed with rental or private cruising in mind are another typical feature. This explains why they often construct them in order and why different decks created in the same location vary so greatly from one another.

LUXURY SAILING YACHTS

The size, design, and shape of a luxury sailing yacht charter might vary. However, sailing yachts are the foundation of maritime history. Today’s top-of-the-line luxury sailing yachts represent engineering, design, performance, and comfort.

Power for luxury sailing yachts comes from both the wind and the engine. They become economical, cost-effective, and environmentally beneficial as a result. Solar-powered engines have taken the place of ancient engines thanks to modern technologies.

Hydro engines, which harness the power of the ocean’s natural flow to produce electricity, have nevertheless developed despite more recent advancements.

So the finest and most cost-effective method to enjoy the water and the coast is to charter a luxury yacht.

Let’s say you want to experience luxury sailing on a yacht to the fullest. You’ll then have a variety of options from which to choose.

We cover every feature of each of these opulent sailing decks in our listing, so you can decide which one best meets your needs. As a result, you begin your vacation by selecting the sailboat that will make you the happiest.

ACCOMMODATION ON CHARTERED YACHTS

It will undoubtedly pale in comparison to the opulence of a stateroom on a luxury yacht. Your view, however, is directly in the midst of the water, in contrast to the sea view opposite the hotel.

Some suites have wall-sized windows, extra-large beds, and spacious wardrobes, which are hallmarks of every boat designer. Even two-room suites offer possibilities.

The yacht’s length is most easily distinguished by the fact that when it increases, either the number of rooms that can accommodate more visitors or the room’s width does as well.

Turkish yachts come in a variety of sizes, but don’t let their small stature mislead you—some of the smallest ships are actually quite comfortable and stylish.

You can select what you want from a large range of possibilities with distinctly various decorative styles, such as Louis XIV, Scandinavian, and eclectic.

Many decks can accommodate 8 to 12 people (or more). It may have several master cabins. There are many VIP suites in some alternatives.

As one of the top charter companies, we’re pleased to assist you in finding a boat that meets your precise requirements among the numerous boats available for sailing in Turkey.

Best Time to Sail

Typically, between May and October, when the weather is nice and the seas are calm, is the best time to go sailing in Turkey. Yet, if you want a more sedate and uncrowded experience, think about going between April and November.

Choosing a Yacht or Sailboat

Turkey Sailing Charter

Sailing destinations in turkey.

Turkey is a lovely sailing destination with many scenic locales to discover. Two of them stand out as the most well-liked:

The Turquoise Coast

The Turkish Riviera, commonly referred to as the Turquoise Coast, runs the length of Turkey’s southern coast. It provides picturesque coastal communities, undiscovered coves, and extremely pure waters.

Along the Turquoise Coast, Bodrum, Marmaris, Fethiye, and Antalya are a few of the well-known locations.

The Greek Islands

From Turkey, you can take sailing tours to the nearby Greek Islands, where you can learn about their interesting history, unique architecture, and lively culture. Rhodes, Kos, and Symi are popular Greek islands that travelers from Turkey like to visit.

Types of Yacht Charters in Turkey

Turkey offers a variety of yacht charter options, including:

Gulet Charters

A gulet is a traditional Turkish wooden sailing vessel. Gulet charters are a wonderful opportunity to take in the stunning coastline and real Turkish hospitality.

Luxury Motor Yacht Charters

People who like power and speed can have a more luxurious and enjoyable time on a luxury motor yacht. These ships often have a skilled crew that offers excellent service and custom itineraries.

Catamaran Charters

Catamarans are a well-liked option due to their stability, comfort, and space. They’re perfect for groups or families who want to take their time discovering Turkey’s islands and coasts.

Bareboat Charters

Sailors with experience might choose bareboat charters, where they can captain their boat and plan their route. By choosing this option, you can explore Turkey’s waterways with more independence and flexibility.

Sailboat Turkey

Sailboat options.

In Turkey, there are primarily two types of sailboats that can be rented:

Monohull Sailboats

The single hull of a traditional monohull sailboat brings you closer to the water and gives you a more traditional sailing experience.

Catamaran Sailboats

On the other hand, catamaran sailboats have two parallel hulls that provide more stability and room. They are therefore a fantastic option for families or larger groups.

Tips for Choosing a Sailboat in Turkey

The following elements should be taken into account while choosing a sailboat for your Turkish adventure:

Size and Comfort

Choose a sailboat that has room for your group’s size and allows for plenty of rest and mingling.

Destination and Route

While choosing a sailboat, take into account the routes and destinations you want to visit. Some ships are more appropriate for particular locations or climates.

Set a budget for your sailing trip and choose a sailboat that fits that budget, taking into account extra costs like food and port fees.

Along this path, Fethiye, Göcek, Kaş, and Kalkan are a few must-see locations.

These stunning islands, like Rhodes, Symi, and Kos, are frequently visited by Turkish yacht charters. This route presents a special chance to visit two distinct nations and cultures on one journey.

The UNESCO World Heritage Site at Xanthos is just one of the many ancient ruins and archaeological sites that can be seen along the Lycian Coast, a beautiful sailing route.

Along this coast, which goes from Fethiye to Antalya, you can see signs of the Lycian culture that used to be strong in the area.

Blue Cruise Charter Turkey

When selecting a blue cruise, think about the itinerary, the kind of boat, the degree of service, and the amenities offered.

Blue Cruise Itinerary

You can make the schedule of a blue cruise fit your interests and preferences. You can choose to go to the Lycian Coast, the Greek Islands, or the Turquoise Coast.

Located directly between Europe and Asia, there is a large triangular peninsula. This is where the famous city Istanbul stands. Istanbul is not only the main seaport of the entire country of Turkey, it is also Turkey’s largest city with a population exceeding 13 million. Centuries ago, it was known as the capital city Constantinople of the ancient Byzantine empire.

If you really want to get into the full history of Istanbul and what it represents for Europe and Asia, visiting it yourself is no doubt the best option. There is a ton to do and see when it comes to exploring the famous Turkish city and certainly a bit of something for everyone. The simple fact that it is the only city in the entire world that is situated on 2 continents makes it a worthwhile destination!

There is a huge selection of activities to do while in Istanbul, but we certainly wouldn’t want you to miss out on cruising Istanbul waterways on an amazing sunset tour. While many of the options we recommend offer more than sunset times for their tours, each one does feature a tour timed perfectly to view the sunset from your yacht or boat.

The Bosphorus strait and its inlets are the top choices for these tours and provide an amazingly unique experience as you can see and experience two completely separate continents at the same time. See, the Bosphorus strait goes directly between the two continents with Europe on one side of the waterway and Asia on the other. There truly is nowhere else in the world quite like this special spot.

#1 istanbul: bosphorus yacht cruise with stopover on asian side.

  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Tour type: luxury yacht
  • Includes stopover on Asian Side
  • Good variety of refreshments including Turkish Tea and Turkish Delight

You’ll spend 2.5 hours on this yacht cruise seeing many sights on both the European side of the strait as well as the Asian side. Just a few of the sights you will get to take in include Galata Tower, Topkapi Palace, Dolmabahçe Palace, Leander Tower, and Blue Mosque amongst others. One of the really cool things about this specific tour is that it includes a stop on the Asian side of the Bosphorus.

For the stop, you will get to leave the yacht and spend 15 minutes in Kanlica. This is a neighborhood that has become quite well known thanks to the delicious yogurt commonly sold there. You will even have the opportunity to get some of Kanlica’s famous yogurt to enjoy! It is very rich and sweet topped with caster sugar, also known as powdered sugar or confectioner’s sugar. It adds the perfect extra sweet touch to the treat.

During the tour, you will be offered a variety of refreshments ranging from fruits to pastries, Turkish tea, and the famous Turkish Delight. If you haven’t had it before, what could be a more perfect time to indulge in this yummy Turkey-native candy. It’s soft, squishy, and perfectly chewy with authentic aromatic flavors and ideal level of sweetness. It’s a small but well-loved detail of this amazing Istanbul tour!

#3 Istanbul: Old City Tour & Luxury Sunset Bosphorus Cruise

  • Duration: 10 hours
  • Tour Type: Walking followed by yacht cruise
  • Includes entrance tickets to Topkapi Palace

As you walk along with your group, you will make regular stops to admire the area, the special landmarks, and discuss the history involved with it all.

Your tour guide is very knowledgeable and the tour is designed to be educational while also being very entertaining. You will learn a ton and enjoy every minute of it! Tickets to enter Topkapi Palace are even included in the tour. You will have some time to spend in the palace enjoying the splendor of the architecture and moving between its many kiosks and exhibits. Another exciting feature of this experience is getting to visit the site of the Ancient Roman hippodrome!

Midway through the tour, you and your group will enjoy a lovely lunch together in a rooftop terrace restaurant. From here, you can enjoy a stunning view of the city. After finishing the walking section of the tour, you will board a 25-foot luxury yacht for the cruise part of the tour. Viewing the incredible Istanbul Sunset on the Bosphorus is a truly unforgettable experience. Not only will you be able to enjoy this relaxing moment in time, but the cruise section of the tour continues to also provide you with amazing and sometimes even exclusive information about the area and special connection it holds to both continents it resides on.

#4 Istanbul: Private Sultan Boat Trip on the Golden Horn

  • Duration: 1 hour
  • Tour type: traditional sultan boat
  • Optional hotel pick-up and drop-off
  • Fully private tour for your group

Lasting right at the 1-hour mark, this tour is great for anyone that wants to fit in some waterway time and enjoy a great tour without giving up too much of their independent exploring time or other scheduled activities. Starting from Miniaturk, you will spend the hour exploring the Golden Horn. This is one of the primary inlets of the Bosphorus strait as well as a major waterway for present-day Istanbul.

Cruising around the Golden Horn will provide you many opportunities to see incredible Istanbul sights and understand the local culture better. Some of the things you can look forward to stopping at along the way include Aya Yorgi Church, Galata Tower, Halic Congress Center, Galata Bridge, Fener, Topkapi Palace, and Hagia Sophia. The fact that you will be enjoying all these stunning sights right at sunset is the cherry on top!

While refreshments aren’t offered on this sultan boat tour, they do offer you the option to include hotel pick-up and drop-off. They also provide life jackets for all passengers. The crew and host are very well-versed in the history of Istanbul and are fully prepared to answer your questions and help you become immersed in the enriching culture surrounding you. The sultan, being a traditional boat used in the Golden Horn waterway for centuries, just further adds to the overall experience.

#5 Istanbul Clue Luxury Private Yacht Rental

  • Tour type: private luxury yacht cruise
  • Complimentary coffee, tea, soft drinks, and snacks
  • Option to purchase full meal and/or alcohol

Your tour guide knows everything you could dream to ask about regarding the Bosphorus strait as well as Istanbul in general. They’re the perfect source of information and since the tour is private, it will be easy for you and your group to get that unbeatable 1-on-1 interaction.

If you choose to include it when booking your tour, you will be picked up and dropped off from your hotel prior to and then following the cruise. This is done with a professional driver in a non-smoking private van. Several refreshment options are available during the tour including complimentary coffee, tea, soft drinks, and various snacks.

In addition to the complimentary options, you do have the choice to purchase a full meal separately. This can be breakfast, lunch, or dinner depending on the time of the tour you choose. Unlike many other similar tours, you will also have the choice of purchasing alcohol during your cruise. With all these choices, two beautiful decks, tons of windows, and plenty of shade – there is no doubt this is a cruise anyone can truly enjoy.

10 Best Greece Cruises, According to Travel Experts

These are the best Greece cruises for island hopping with ease.

yacht tour turkey

Courtesy of Variety Cruises

With its stunning beaches, rich history, iconic landmarks, and delectable cuisine, a trip to Greece is always a great idea. However, since the nation is home to more than 6,000 islands — some of which are only accessible by boat — your best bet is to explore via cruise. Just take it from Rob Clabbers, Travel + Leisure A-List travel advisor and Q Cruise + Travel founder, who tells T+L that “Greece and the Greek isles are just the perfect destinations to explore by ship” since “a cruise allows you to see more islands and gives you a unique vantage point.” Several of the best Greece cruises also include visits to neighboring countries like Turkey and Italy, for example, which allow travelers to experience several cultures and countries in one action-packed trip. Intrigued? We don’t blame you: Ahead, check out our favorite Greece cruises for every type of traveler, along with itinerary recommendations and expert insight.

Meet the Expert

Rob Clabbers is a T+L A-List travel advisor and founder of Q Cruise + Travel, a Chicago-based travel agency.

Mary Curry is a T+L A-list travel advisor and small ship specialist.

Kari Dillon is the owner of Marvelous Mouse Travels, an agency specializing in theme park and cruise vacations.

Megan Guinnup is a travel agent with Marvelous Mouse Travels.

Windstar Cruises

Courtesy of Windstar

According to Clabbers, this small luxury cruise line is perfect for those who prefer “a smaller, more casual yacht-style experience.” Per the pro, the onboard vibes are best described as “upscale, but not stuffy or over-the-top.” It’s also worth noting that “each ship offers a water sports platform with kayaks, water trampolines, stand-up paddling, snorkel gear, floating carpets, and other ‘toys’ that are deployed (weather and location permitting, of course) at least once on most Greek itineraries.”

Itinerary: While you can’t go wrong with any of Windstar’s Greece itineraries, Clabbers is quick to call out the popular Treasures of the Greek Isles voyage, which sets sail each week from May through October. Passengers can visit beloved ports of call like Mykonos and Santorini, along with “lesser-known (and less-crowded!) places like Monemvasia and Patmos.” As part of the experience, guests have the unique opportunity to feast among the ruins in neighboring Turkey as part of the line’s complimentary Evening in Ephesus “after-hours” event, which, per Clabbers, features a decadent five-course dinner accompanied by a chamber orchestra. Speaking of culinary offerings, it’s worth mentioning that Windstar is the official cruise line partner of the esteemed James Beard Foundation, which means you can expect some of the top eats at sea.

Explora Journeys

Courtesy of Explora Cruises

“A new entrant in the luxury travel industry, Explora Journeys offers all the style and comfort of a modern European luxury resort property on its 922-guest yacht-inspired Explora I and, launching later this year, Explora II, ” explains Clabbers. The line has taken the industry by storm, doing away with cliche cruise staples like main dining rooms, large buffets, and notoriously small staterooms. Instead, says Clabbers, guests can choose from a selection of “excellent restaurants that other companies would call specialty restaurants,” as well as “four swimming pools, each with their own vibe,” and all-suite accommodations, some of which boast private plunge pools. Per the pro, it’s worth noting that “Explora Journeys is the first luxury line that offers a dedicated youth activity program and facility year-round;” as such, it’s an excellent option for multi-generational families looking to cruise Greece in style.

Itinerary: Sailing round-trip from Athens, the aptly named eight-night A Journey from Athens to Athens itinerary includes a mix of popular ports like Mykonos and Santorini, along with hidden-gem locales like Syros, which is famous for its neoclassical architecture, a buzzy main town, and (essentially) crowd-free beaches. The cruise also visits the serene resort town of Marmaris in Turkey before heading to its final port of call, Kos , a gorgeous Greek island known for its sandy beaches, white-washed buildings, and historical sites.

Celebrity Cruises

Courtesy of Celebrity Cruises

According to Clabbers, " Celebrity Cruises was launched by a Greek shipping family," so the line has deep ties to — and many officers who hail from — the country. What’s more, he says, "When you visit Greece, they are taking you to their homeland, and it shows in their passion and love of the Hellenic nation." The line offers a range of larger ships and, thus, more options between accommodations (from economical inside rooms to luxurious suites in The Retreat), itineraries, restaurants, and entertainment; as such, Celebrity is "a great option for adults and families who like more activities on their ship."

Itinerary: The nine-night Best Of Greece itinerary cruises round-trip from Athens on select dates from May to October and takes place aboard the 2,170-passenger Celebrity Infinity , which Clabbers described as one of the line’s “smaller and more seasoned ships.” The first port of call is Santorini, followed by Ephesus in Turkey and Mykonos. “Additionally,” says Clabbers, " Infinity   travels to Volos and Thessaloniki, ports that are not typically visited by large ships.” Kavala, located in the northern part of the country, serves as the final port of call before heading back to Athens. Here, cruisers can enjoy a mix of history, culture, and architecture — plus some seriously stunning landscapes (from lagoons and lakes to wetlands and beaches) along with lush flora and fauna.

Related: What to Know About All 16 Ships in the Celebrity Cruises Fleet

Courtesy of Silversea cruises

Silversea offers a variety of Greece cruise itineraries, and it’s one of few truly luxe all-inclusive cruise lines. Per Clabbers, the 596-passenger Silver Moon offers all-suite accommodations and a classic small-ship feel — complete with excellent meals, beverages, and shore excursions all included in your cruise fare. Speaking of the latter, he says, “The inclusion of shore excursions also makes it easy to dive deeper into Greek culture and culinary experiences.”

Itinerary: While you can’t go wrong with any of Silversea’s Greek itineraries, Clabbers especially recommends the seven-night Athens to Athens cruise, which “calls on highlights, but adds places like Souda Bay in Crete, Nafplion, Patmos, and Rhodes ,” where he recommends visiting the “temple ruins at Lindos, with views over the Mediterranean, and then walk in the footsteps of the Crusaders in the old town.” The cruise also stops in Nafplion, which, despite its romantic seaside setting and lovely beaches, is yet to be uncovered by most American travelers — for now, at least.

Variety Cruises

According to T+L A-list travel advisor and small ship specialist Mary Curry , this local Greek cruise line offers its own fleet of yachts, most carrying fewer than 50 passengers. Since the ships are so small, says Curry, “you can travel a bit further off the beaten path.” Variety offers a handful of Greece itineraries, including specially themed hiking and wine cruises.

Itinerary: Travelers craving a true off-the-beaten-path experience can book the seven-night Unexplored Greece voyage, which sails round-trip from Athens. The first port of call is Ikira, a tiny island known for its hot springs that also happens to be one of the world’s Blue Zones. Then, it’s off to Patmos, known for its fascinating history and unspoiled beaches, before overnighting in Lipsi, a laid-back isle famous for its gorgeous scenery. On board, guests can taste the destination’s famous wine, Aposperitis. The fun continues in Levintha, inhabited by a single family who raises animals and runs a restaurant where guests can enjoy fresh-caught fish. After, it’s off to Amorgos, where scenic hiking and beautiful beaches abound. The next day, you’ll stop at Panagia Hozoviotissa, a cliffside monastery dating back to the 10th century, before heading to Koufonisia, which boasts majestic caves and rock pools accessible only by boat (thankfully, Variety as you covered). The final stop of the day is the serene island of Iraklia, which offers clear-blue waters ideal for swimming. After remaining here overnight, you’ll head to the final port of call, Serifos, where guests can visit a remote beach, followed by an onboard BBQ feast to refuel before heading to Chora, a fairy-tale village.

Courtesy of Ponant Cruises

This French-owned cruise line offers an impressive fleet of small luxury ships. Additionally, says Curry, “Most cabins have private balconies, and travelers who plan early are rewarded with excellent value for the money.” What’s especially unique about Pontant, explains the pro, is that they “partner with Smithsonian Journeys on select departures to offer an enrichment program of included lectures and shore excursions in each port.”

Itinerary: Curry especially recommends the seven-night Cruising the Greek Islands of the Southern Aegean sailing, which will cruise round-trip from Athens in July and October 2025. The cruise calls on aforementioned spots like Patmos, Rhodes, and Amorgos before visiting Adamas in Milos, a volcanic island teeming with postcard-worthy white-washed towns and breathtakingly beautiful beaches. Adamas itself is a tiny fishing port where colorful boats shimmer against the blue waters. Finally, it’s off to Mykonos and Napflion before finally disembarking in Athens.

Disney Cruise Line

Courtesy of Disney Cruise Line

Disney Cruise Line is world-famous for its exciting onboard offerings for children of all ages — including character and superhero meet-and-greets, dining options themed after beloved Disney princesses, and live performances galore — making it a favorite for families hoping for a fun-filled Greece vacation.

Itinerary: "Setting sail aboard the Disney Dream on the seven-night Mediterranean with Greek Isles itinerary is nothing short of magical!" says Megan Guinnup , a travel agent with Marvelous Mouse Travels . Cruising round-trip from Rome, the ship calls on Naples before exploring Greece. In addition to popular ports like Athens and Mykonos, you'll also visit Chania on the island of Crete, which offers a bustling harbor, exquisite architecture, and cobblestone streets that look like they were plucked straight from a (Disney) fairy tale. After exploring each locale, the fun continues back on board, where, per the pro, "there is enchantment everywhere — meeting beloved characters, enjoying deck parties with Mickey and Minnie, and indulging in exquisite cuisine."

Royal Caribbean

Courtesy of Royal Caribbean

This mega-ship line truly has it all: Flashy entertainment and onboard activities — which, depending on the ship, can include everything from water slides to zip lines — and plenty of drinking and dining offerings to appease even the pickiest eaters. Guinnup and Kari Dillon, owner of Marvelous Mouse Travels, recommend setting sail aboard Odyssey of the Seas , which offers several Greek itineraries. "On board," says Guinnup, "There's a plethora of activities to enjoy, from bumper cars and roller skating to exquisite dining and a bionic bar — there's something for everyone!"

Itinerary: The seven-night Greek Isles itinerary sails round-trip from Rome with stops in Santorini, Ephesus, Mykonos, and Naples. Keep in mind that because the ship is so large, Santorini and Mykonos are both tender ports. With that in mind, Dillon recommends springing on The Key, an optional add-on that includes priority tender access so that you can spend as much time as possible on land basking in its beauty.

Virgin Voyages

Courtesy of Virgin Voyages

Richard Branson’s adults-only line has taken the industry by storm with its innovative offerings, including 20-plus restaurants instead of buffets, an onboard tattoo parlor, adult-focused entertainment offerings, and a two-story nightclub.

Itinerary: Dillon especially recommends the seven-night Greek Island Aglow itinerary for travelers seeking a high-energy, adults-only option. She continues, telling T+L, “Not only does this sail to the islands of Santorini and Rhodes, but it [also] has an overnight in Mykonos, which is world-famous for its lively party atmosphere.” As a bonus, the cruise also calls on Bodrum in Turkey, which boasts beautiful beaches, flower-filled cafes, and a bustling nightlife scene.

Celestyal Cruises

Nicolas Economou/NurPhoto via Getty Images

The Greece-based Celesytal Cruises prides itself on offering an authentic Greek vacation experience. Additionally, Celesytal is unique in that it offers year-round Aegean Sea sailings cruising round-trip from Athens and ranging in length from three to 14 nights. On land, Celeystal guests can choose from a selection of the line’s “Authentic Excursions,” which are specially curated, small-group, expert-led experiences designed to take travelers off the beaten path. Options — including walking food tours and pottery-making demos at a local factory — abound, depending on the particular port of call.

Itinerary: The seven-night Idyllic Aegean voyage visits Thessaloniki (which offers an eclectic combination of history, nightlife, and gastronomy), Kuşadası (a popular Turkish resort town), and Heraklion (the capital of Crete) before heading to iconic isles like Santorini and Mykonos, where the ship will remain overnight. Before returning to Athens for disembarkation, you’ll also stop in magnificent Milos.
