‘The Ghost and Molly McGee’ Season 2: First Loves and First Periods

Bill Motz and Bob Roth bring an honest take on issues kids face, such the emotional complexities of reaching puberty, to their 2D kids’ series about an energetic young girl and a grouchy ghost; the new season premieres April 1 on Disney Channel and Disney XD, the next day on Disney+.

Broaching the topic of menstruation is a task few animation creators have ventured into, and certainly never before in an animated series for children. Along with the emotional complexities that stem from girls getting their first period, the topic in general is a bit, let’s say, messy.

“I remember when my daughter was going through it,” recalls Bill Motz, a long-time Disney animation writer who has worked on shows like Kim Possible , Phineas and Ferb , and Big Hero 6: The Series . “And the timing is all different. You have friends who are blossoming way early, and other ones who look eternally 10-years-old. I remember with my daughter, her friends would suddenly sprout up and be twice as tall, and she always felt like she was left behind in some respects. When you are impacted by puberty, or when you finally get your period, all those things, it's a big life change, and it can really change the dynamics between your friendships and even how you relate with your family.”

So, when Motz and friend Bob Roth – another veteran Disney animation writer and producer – were first planning to approach Disney about incorporating a whole episode on periods in their series The Ghost and Molly McGee ’s second season, the two co-creators were, understandably, nervous.

“We were all prepared to go to war,” says Roth. “But Disney was supportive from the moment they first heard the idea. We've seen a real shift over the course of our careers about the kinds of topics we can discuss and incorporate into the show. And I'm so grateful for that, because it makes the storytelling that much more fun and authentic and real.”

Season 2 of The Ghost and Molly McGee , which debuts on Disney Channel and Disney XD Saturday, April 1 and on Disney+ the next day, revisits 13-year-old tween girl Molly and her crotchety-but-kind ghost friend Scratch who now co-habits with the McGees as a beloved member of the family. The new season kicks off with the arrival of the McGees’ new neighbors, The Chens, a ghost-hunting family, whose charms make life (and afterlife) even more complicated for Scratch, as well as for Molly, who is crushing on the family’s son Oliver.

Check out the trailer:

“We'd spent Season 1 always looking at that house across the street,” says Motz. “You see it all the time from the living room window, and we would have these conversations about who lives there. Originally, when we thought of the idea of ghost hunters, they were going to come in as antagonists. But we realized that's not all that interesting, and that it would be more fun to build a relationship between that family and the McGees.”

Along with parties, dances, and talks about a shared pool and family vacations between the Chens and McGees, this chapter of the story features awkward teen romances and everyone on the production side – from writers to animators – were asked to revisit moments in their pre-teen lives that many of them wish they could forget.

“Such as the moment where I was on a school trip and tried to impress a girl by throwing my cup of Coke into the garbage can,” remembers Roth. “I missed, of course, and it spilled all over the Natural History Museum of New York. We told all our writers, ‘Let’s channel our most embarrassing Middle School moments.’ We said the same thing to our board artists. We said to the actors, ‘Bring in the voice cracks. Do all of it. Make yourself as uncomfortable as you can.’ We wanted to find all the moments that were terrible because those moments are universal. There's some really great, awkward stuff coming up this season.”

disney ghost girl

Motz, in particular, revisited his memories of shopping for his daughter post-period arrival. His experiences as a father to a coming-of-age young lady were harnessed to create Season 2’s episode, “A Period Piece,” which addresses both Molly feeling out of sync with a friend who gets her period first, as well as showcases Scratch and Molly’s dad Pete struggling to choose which brand of pads to buy.

“We're delighted that we actually get to have this kind of conversation [on the show] and a little surprised that it hasn't been a bigger topic sooner,” notes Motz. “This is a key part of the human experience. And a lot of Pete's journey is in that episode, which is very reflective of my own. After all, our wish was for this to be a show for families. And we hoped that families could see themselves in it.”

Beginning with the series’ first season sequence that addressed the Holocaust, Motz and Roth say that Disney has been a trusting partner in allowing them to build a script that dives into sometimes uncomfortable topics. But both creators agree that it makes for an honest show that breeds honest dialogue.

“It's an opportunity for dialogue,” says Motz. “It's a way to initiate conversation. Parents always wonder when they're going to have certain talks with their kids about certain things and it seems so awkward and inorganic in how you try to bring it up. But if you have something that you could watch together and react to together, it makes it easier.”

Roth adds, “We’re the modern day, ‘How to talk to your kids,’ guide. Let's not pack these things away into the corner and pretend they don't exist.”

disney ghost girl

But Roth believes that his and Motz’s chance to trailblaze for these kinds of conversations has a lot to do with the medium of animation itself. “I think it's harder in live-action because things are more immediately real,” says Roth. “I think that adds, in a weird way, a little bit of discomfort and distance.”

In addition to paving the way for more down-to-earth coming of age stories to be told in mainstream animation, Roth and Motz are particularly excited about the second season’s addressing kids of mixed heritage who are not only dealing with hormones, first loves, and their place in the world, but also balancing different cultures within their home.

“We have an episode coming up about Molly's mixed heritage, being half Irish and half Thai, which mirrors our lead actress Ashly Burch,” says Roth. “When she read the script, she emailed us right away, and said, ‘I cried. I wish I had something like this when I was a kid. Something that made me feel seen.’ That's kind of the magic of it all. We get to help kids feel seen in so many ways.”

Disneyland is known as the Happiest Place on Earth. Located in southern California, the weather at the Disneyland Resort is sunny and beautiful most of the year. There are so many attractions to ride, parades and nighttime shows to watch, snacks to find, and characters to meet. However, beneath this layer of beauty, magic, and wonder at the Parks lies a more hidden detail – one that is paranormal in nature.

Haunted Mansion at Disneyland Park

Ghosts at the Disneyland Resort

Legends of ghosts have been spotted throughout the Parks and passed around through stories. Everyone knows about the 999 happy haunts inside the Haunted Mansion attraction, but, according to Disneyland legends and stories, these are not the ghosts that come out to socialize.

There are some Guests who have claimed to see strange happenings at the Park that can’t be explained or have perhaps seen something move out of the corner of their eye that wasn’t supposed to move, but those aren’t the stories we’re focusing on today. Instead, we will be delving into the experiences of some of the most integral parts of the Park- the Cast Members.

Disney Cast Members are vital to the Park- even more so than some of the attractions! The Cast Members aim to provide Guests with the most magical experience. Whether it’s giving directions, helping with Guest needs, enforcing safety measures and crowd control, or just being a friendly face, Cast Members are the backbone of the Park.

And, Cast Members are more involved with the inner workings of the Park, helping with Park opening, closing, ride operations, and more. Because they spend so much time at the attractions and certain areas of the Park each day, they have more of an opportunity to experience these strange phenomena, especially if they heard about these legendary spirits from Cast Members who worked at the same location.

Cast Members Share Ghost Experiences at the Parks

On a subreddit called r/Paranormal, user kingdude181 asked the community to share any stories of creepy experiences or weird encounters while at Disney.

As such, user MrBellcaptain shared an experience while working in the shops on Buena Vista Street in California Adventure:

Worked there a while back at the stores in California Adventure after Buena Vista Street opened. One night I was cleaning the shelves in Trolley Treats when the locked automatic doors just opened. Now normally I wouldn’t think anything of it but two fellow cast members behind me checking out registers just stopped and stared. I asked “did those just open on their own?” And they both just nodded. I shrugged and continued my work. About 10 minutes later it did it again, this time I was alone. I got down and checked the door but it wouldn’t even open for me. So no idea what caused it at the time. I mentioned this event to a lead who told me that the whole Trolley Treats side and the old Burrrrrbank Ice Cream shop were haunted by a little girl who died in the parking lot there back when DCA wasn’t even a dream. She apparently likes messing with the boys and would tease male leads closing up by running up and down aisles late at night.

Another former Cast Member, @parkhoppingduo, shared on TikTok that they used to work in this area of the Park and confirmed similar experiences, which may have been caused by the same ghost.

In this video, @parkhoppingduo shares that from 2013 to 2017, they worked at some of the stores at Disney California Adventure. When the poster eventually was made lead, they opened up Trolley Treats, and a mug flew off the shelf.

Another Cast Member asked if the mugs were still falling and said that it was Jennifer. Jennifer was a little girl who had gone to Disneyland with her uncle and tragically passed away after being crushed by a bus in Disneyland’s parking lot, which is now a part of California Adventure.

In a compilation by Haunted OC , several Guests and Cast Members submitted ghost stories they experienced at Disneyland.

One former Cast Member, Sherilyn B., had a story similar to @parkhoppingduo:

I was working alone to restock Five and Dime. (The merchandise store in Toontown.) Toontown had closed for the night and all the other Cast Members had left. While re-stocking shirts a mug fell off the shelf on the other side of the store. Again no one else in the store but me and I was a good 20 feet away. The shelf is super sturdy and heavy wood attached to the wall.

DeeAynn D. saw a shadow figure while working on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad :

I worked on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. I was walking the track after closing and just around the bend from the first lift, I saw a shadow on the mountain wall walking along with me. It was not my shadow. This shadow figure had on a baseball cap; I did not wear my costume hat when doing a track walk. I saw this figure on several occasions when I closed. Yes, I talked to him every time.

Space Mountain at Disneyland

Lisa K. also shared a creepy experience about being behind the scenes inside Space Mountain:

Back in the day, cast members would have a locker in a locker room to keep their belongings during their shift and it would also be a place to change out of street clothes and into costume. My locker was inside Space Mountain and, on a few occasions, I’d be in there all alone and hear someone say something and then a door that went to the ride would open and close. A bit creepy late at night .

Several other commenters shared creepy experiences while working at the Parks. Some heard voices of children laughing while closing up at the stroller shop or in New Orleans Square after closing. One commenter saw an elderly woman in a wooden wheelchair at Haunted Mansion who wasn’t really there, another heard footsteps at the Soarin’ Over California ride while no one else was in the room, and one person while cleaning the restrooms experienced a trash can getting moved every time they left the bathroom and came back.

Soarin' Disneyland

In a related  SFGate  article , more Cast Member ghost stories were shared about mysterious goings-on at the Disneyland Resort. For example, Ashley Marie Castro was a former Cast Member who experienced hearing the stockroom door open and close while she was alone in the store. Then, shortly after, an item crashed to the ground from off the shelf, and Ashley claims it would not have been possible for it to just fall off.

Darrold Wagner, another former Cast Member, had a creepy tale. Late at night, at the Disneyland Railroad, he would see a train on the command center’s board and hear a whistle blow, even when there was no train. Additionally, his security supervisor would smell cigarette smoke behind Walt Disney’s apartment on Main Street, U.S.A., leading them to think it was Walt himself “sneaking a last smoke,” as he was prone to do.

Legends of Ghosts at the Parks

Finally, in an article from  The Orange County Register , we get a glimpse into some of the other Disneyland ghost legends. First, a Cast Member who worked at the infamous Haunted Mansion was interviewed, and she said that some of the female Cast Members have experienced ghosts untying the ribbons in their hair.

She also noticed that props would mysteriously move from one side of the room to the other. And, she mentioned that even some of the Cast Members are afraid to go inside some of the rooms behind the scenes because it is too creepy.

Guests with a Disneyland VIP tour guide on Walt's Main Street Story Tour at Disneyland Park

Here are ten different ghost legends at Disneyland, according to The Orange County Register , some of which are very well known to both Disney Cast Members and Guests alike.

Walt Disney’s Apartment – Walt Disney had an apartment above the Fire Station on Main Street, U.S.A. If you look up, you may notice the light in the window. This will always stay on, as legend has it that as a Cast Member went in there one night to turn off the light, she heard a voice saying “I am still here.” Was it Walt Disney himself or just a creepy coincidence?

Mr. One Way  – This ghost hangs out on Space Mountain , choosing to sit next to single riders and disappearing after the ride is over. He is said to be a large man with red hair and a red face and has reportedly been seen in the Cast Members’ locker room as well.

Disneyland's Monorail

Monorail runner  – One night in June 1966, a teenager tried to sneak into Disneyland for Grad Nite. His goal was to climb a fence and cross the Monorail track. However, as he was seen by a security guard, he began to run but unfortunately was hit by a Monorail train. The legend is that people can still see the ghost of this runner alongside the Monorail.

Matterhorn ghost  – In 1984, a woman named Dolly Young rode the Matterhorn Bobsleds but was killed after being thrown from the bobsled. Cast Members who walk the tracks when this attraction shuts down say that they can hear her. Others call the section where this tragedy occurred “Dolly’s Dip.”

family on the matterhorn at disneyland

The crying boy  – The ghost of a young boy is sometimes seen at the exit of Haunted Mansion. This is because, according to the story, his mother spread his ashes on the ride without Disneyland’s permission. Additionally, this young ghost has been seen on the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction as well.

The man with the cane – There is a man with a cane who is seen at the loading portion of the Haunted Mansion attraction as Guests begin boarding the doom buggies. Some believe this is the spirit of a pilot whose plane went down in the area in the 1940s.

disneyland crowds main street

The woman in white – Instead of being a creepy legend like some of these other stories, this woman has been said to help lost children reunite with their parents by leading them to the Disneyland Baby Care Center. She is usually spotted on Main Street, U.S.A. after dark and is dressed in a 19th-century white gown, hence her nickname.

Rivers of America spirit – In June of 1973, two brothers were on Tom Sawyer’s Island after the Park closed. While swimming across the Rivers of America, the older brother drowned. Cast Members have reportedly seen rippling in the water.

tom sawyer island at disneyland

The ghost that prefers blondes – In 1967, a teenager was killed on the People Mover ride. Now, as the ride has been shut down since 1995, the legend says that he is still hanging around Tomorrowland, pulling the hair of blonde Guests.

Haunted Mansion test rider – There was a rumor that one of the first test Guests on the Haunted Mansion died from a heart attack inside the mansion in the early 1960s. Though the legend says her death was why the ride did not open until 1969, this has not been proven.

These are just some of the several paranormal and creepy experiences reported by Cast Members at Disneyland. The next time you’re enjoying a day at the Happiest Place on Earth, keep an eye out for some of these legendary ghosts.

Have you ever experienced any ghostly encounters at Disney? If not, which of these legends have you heard?

Personality [ ]

Molly is shown to be an optimistic/happy/positive/excitable girl who lives to make the world a better place. She is positive while Stratch is formerly & once negative. She is almost always able to see the bright side and add a positive spin to things in her life, even when they appear completely negative. Molly is noticeably very good-natured and has a strong sense of honor, since she believes in good sportsmanship and helping through hard work. Due to her nature, Molly usually does not appreciate Scratch's questionable deeds and antics unless she is desperate or if they work out in the end.

However, Molly can sometimes be opportunistic and selfish at times, such as in "Mazel Tov, Libby!", where she threw a huge party when Libby didn't want to, and Molly wanted to ruin Libby's party instead of listening to her best friend's wishes.

Appearance [ ]

Molly is a Thai-American teenage girl of medium height, medium-length brown hair, and dark brown almond-shaped eyes. She wears her hair up in a short ponytail with a pink hairband.

As a ghost, Molly has a bright gold color, which causes her to stand out amongst other ghosts who look dark and gloomy. She also has pink eyes and a purple nose.

Clothing [ ]

Molly wears a ripped jean vest with a teal pin, a white and black ringer shirt, a pink and purple skirt, and black biker shorts, and a pink hairband. She wears pink and yellow sneakers. She also has a purple spiral bracelet.

Biography [ ]

Molly was born to Sharon McGee and Pete McGee. After her father got a new job, she would move all over the country to several states such as Oklahoma, where she would make friends but eventually be forced to leave.

At some point, however, Molly would then move to her permanent home in Brighton with her family.

The Ghost and Molly McGee [ ]

When Molly McGee and her family move to Brighton, they settle into Scratch's house. When Scratch is unable to scare Molly, he casts a curse on her that binds the two of them together. However, the curse Scratch casts is more of a curse on him than it is on Molly, as it grants her the power to summon him whenever she pleases. Molly is overjoyed by this curse, believing it makes her and Scratch official best friends. Scratch however is less than thrilled about the curse and learns that the only way to break it is to somehow make Molly leave his house forever.

Powers and Abilities [ ]

Physical form [ ].

  • Summoning Scratch - Due to a curse placed on her by Scratch, he is forced to be wherever she is whenever she wants. Simply by saying his name, Molly is able to have Scratch enveloped in a magenta aura that forcibly drags him to her. Once the curse is broken, Scratch is no longer forced to come to her when she says his name, but by then, he has grown attached to her that he is willing to pretend that he has to.

This flick is coming in 12th place because it's not technically a DCOM. The horror movie based on the Tower of Terror ride at Disney World originally aired on ABC. It's about a down-on-his-luck journalist named Buzzy Crocker who just lost his job and now writes for a supermarket tabloid. He travels with his niece named Anna (a young Kirsten Dunst) to the Hollywood Tower Hotel that's believed to be haunted by five guests who disappeared in an elevator back in 1939. He's determined to get a story out of the myths (whether he has to fake it or not), but soon finds that the hotel IS really haunted and he and his niece have to figure out how to break the curse before they face the same fate as those who haunt the hotel!

Hocus Pocus (1993)

While Hocus Pocus was originally written as a DCOM, producers behind the scenes ultimately decided it worked better as a feature film release in theaters. So while it lost its ~official~ DCOM status, the classic Halloween flick still feels like one to you because it airs on Disney Channel, like, 1000 times whenever Halloween rolls around. The movie follows three teens named Max, Dani, and Allison from Salem, Massachusetts who accidentally resurrect the Sanderson sisters, three witches who were executed 300 years ago for practicing dark magic. Now, the witch sisters are determined to continue their reign of terror over Salem and Max, Dani, and Allison are the only people who can stop them with the help of an immortal cat named Thackery Binx.

Phantom of the Megaplex (2002)

Something's fishy at the local cinemax—AKA, someone in a creepy, black cape is wreaking havoc around the theater. It's either the rumored "phantom," the ghost of the person who was trapped inside the old movie theater when it was demolished and who's now haunting the new theater, or one of the megaplex's employees pretending to be him. We're down with any Disney movie based loosely on hit broadway musicals, so this is definitely going in the top five!

Mom's Got a Date with a Vampire (2000)

When you're grounded on the night you've got tickets to the Headless Horseman concert or a Halloween date with your super cute BF, you'd be willing to do just about anything to get your mom out of the house so that you could go out and have some Halloween fun, right? Even if that means setting her up on a date with a vampire... Okay, maybe you wouldn't go that far—but when Adam and Chelsea Hansen accidentally do just that, the result is Halloween DCOM gold!

In Twitches , the reunited twin sisters find out they're witches and must save the the magic kingdom where they were born and where their birth mother still lives!

Disney Channel Halloween DCOMs

Don't Look Under The Bed (1999)

Don't Look Under The Bed has one thing that all the other Halloween DCOMs really didn't—it's actually scary. Besides dealing with more serious topics (like cancer), there's something about watching Frances' super cute imaginary friend Larry Houdini transform into a boogeyman right before our eyes that gave us nightmares for months after catching this Halloween flick! And clearly, Disney agrees with our assessment of Don't Look Under the Bed 's scary-factor. It no longer airs on the Disney channel, even during Halloween season, because parents complained it was too dark for their kids to watch!

Halloweentown (1998)

There's no other option for the number one spot. Halloweentown brings the best parts of Halloween together into one movie: witches, spells, monsters, ghosts, family, and teenage angst (yes, Halloween can totally be angsty, especially for Marnie Cromwell). It's the one movie you can count on catching on the Disney channel every single year. And that's never going to change (at least not while Halloweentown stans have anything to say about it). It'll go down in history as a Halloween classic (along with all its sequels, of course).

disney ghost girl

In 1955, something spectacular happened: Disneyland opened in Anaheim, Calif., forever changing the face of amusement parks in America. Given its long and storied history, of course, it’s to be expected that over the years, rumors that ghosts allegedly haunt Disneyland , as well as Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla. and all the other Disney properties that have opened in the intervening decades, would have become rather persistent indeed. The stories are deliciously spooky — even if not all of them are true .

In fact, before we begin, I should probably note that most of them aren’t true. Pretty much every one of these strange and spooky tales is an urban legend — a story passed around from Cast Member to Cast Member, from guest to guest, and from Disney park aficionado to Disney park aficionado. It’s true that a few of them do have their roots in real events; like all amusement parks, Disney is not immune to incidents, contrary to popular belief . But the stories themselves are pretty obviously made up, even when they do have some actual history behind them.

That doesn’t stop them from being absolutely engrossing, though. And, I mean, after all, what else are Disney parks meant to do but help us suspend our disbelief for a short while? These nine tales will give you a shiver — and also remind you to remain inside your ride vehicle with your seatbelt fastened at all times.

Though I’m pretty sure the ghost story itself is just an urban legend, there is some really sad history behind this one: In 1984, Regena Young, known as “Dolly,” fell from her seat while riding the Matterhorn at Disneyland and was killed when she was struck by another oncoming bobsled. Her seatbelt was unbuckled, but we don’t know whether she undid it herself or whether it was the result of something else.

These days, some Cast Members claim to have felt like someone was watching them during their routine walk-throughs of the ride, which are conducted at the end of the day. The area on the track where Young died is known as Dolly’s Dip.

Walt Disney

disney ghost girl

If you are well-versed in Disney lore, you’re probably already aware of the fact that there’s an apartment above the Firehouse on Main Street at Disneyland. During construction on the park, which began on July 16, 1954, with opening day following just a year later on July 17, 1955, Walt Disney — the man himself — wanted a place to stay on the property. It wasn’t large — just about 500 square feet — but it was convenient for those late nights and early mornings as Walt oversaw the Disney dream coming to life. You can tour it now, if you like; in recent years, the apartment has been opened back up again for those who choose to spring for some of the behind-the-scenes tours the park offers.

As a tribute to Walt, a light is always left on in the apartment’s front window — but according to legend, this wasn’t always the case. It’s said that one day, a Cast Member looking after the apartment tried to turn the light off before leaving; however, when she came back later, the light had turned on again. According to one version, she actually left the building, noticed the light on upstairs, went back up to turn it off, went back downstairs, noticed it on again, and even unplugged the lamp, only to find it — you guessed it — on again when she went downstairs. The last time she went up there to deal with the light, it’s said that she heard a voice — Walt’s, maybe? — say, “I’m still here.” The light in the window has reportedly been left on ever since.

The Boy In The Haunted Mansion: California Edition

At Disneyland in California, legend has it that a little boy’s mother spread his ashes in the Haunted Mansion without getting the park’s permission to do so; ever since then, he’s allegedly been heard periodically crying for his mother at the end of the ride. He’s apparently been spotted at Pirates of the Caribbean, too, which is right next door to Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion.

For what it’s worth, Disney’s official stance on ash scattering is that it doesn’t happen; according to a story in the LA Times from 2007, people do ask from time to time, but they’re always told no. Additionally, it’s worth noting that alleged ash scattering is connected to a wide variety of urban legends spread across a bunch of parks and rides.

The Boy In The Haunted Mansion: Florida Edition

disney ghost girl

California’s Haunted Mansion isn’t the only one that’s said to play host to an actual ghost of a little boy; someone posting in the WDWMagic forums in 2004 wrote that they allegedly took the photo seen in the tweet I’ve embedded here while riding the Haunted Mansion at Walt Disney World in Florida.

“As you'll see in the photo after clicking the link, it appears as though a child is peeking his head out of the doombuggy and looking directly at me,” the forum member wrote. “Not only was he not there when I took the pic, there wasn't a child of this age within 20 people in front of me in line, and as you can see, he's only a few doombuggies in front of me. Not only that, what's he doing looking at me? There is NO flash, and NO visible light coming from me. It's all infrared, and invisible to the naked eye.”

Do with that what you will.

Debbie Stone

disney ghost girl

Like the Matterhorn, there’s some sad history to this one: In 1974, 18-year-old Deborah Stone was crushed to death while working as a hostess at the America Sings attraction in Disneyland. America Sings was located in the rotating theatre that had previously housed the Carousel of Progress; on the evening of July 8, Stone was caught between the rotating theatre wall and the stationary stage wall and died as a result. A safety light was subsequently put in, which warned the attraction’s operator when people got too close to this dangerous area; additionally, the stationary walls were later replaced with breakaway ones . (The building recently housed Innovations and Super Hero HQ , although those attractions closed in 2016.)

As is often the case when senseless tragedies occur, one of the ways that people have coped with this upsetting loss is by creating a ghost story for it. In this case, Debbie Stone has become a sort of guardian angel: It’s said that Cast Members working on the attraction, which was open until 1988, used to hear a voice warning them, “Be careful” if they got too close to the walls.

I am fairly confident that George, who allegedly haunts the Pirates of the Caribbean ride in Walt Disney World, is an urban legend, rather than an actual ghost. The hallmarks of a good yarn all there: Conflicting versions of what happened to him; things that allegedly happen if you do or don’t do certain things while riding his ride; and so on and so forth. Either way, though, his legend seems to be a surprisingly friendly one, so let’s take a look.

It’s said that, when the Florida version of Pirates of the Caribbean was under construction , a welder named George was killed in an accident. Exactly what that accident was varies depending on who you talk to; according to some, he was crushed by a falling beam, while according to others, he fell from the “burning city” portion of the ride and died as a result. Ever since then, the ride has allegedly been plagued by strange occurrences whenever George is disrespected.

Really, though, that’s all George seems to be after: Respect. He’s said to stop the ride whenever someone says “I don’t believe in George,” so presumably if you don’t question his existence while you’re actually riding Pirates of the Caribbean, you should be fine. Additionally, the rumor persists that Cast Members in charge of opening the ride for the day or closing it up at night say “Good morning” or “Good night” to George at the appropriate times to keep him appeased. As long as you do that, he’s apparently happy.

The reality, though, is that George probably didn’t exist . You know what did really happen, though? Real bones were once used as props on the California version of the ride. According to Atlas Obscura, the fake skeletons available when the ride was first opened were deemed to be not realistic enough, so the Imagineers working on the ride got some real ones from the UCLA Medical Center . These eventually were replaced with fake bones... but still.

Mr. One-Way

Like George, Mr. One-Way is almost certainly an urban legend; one of the most passed-around ghost stories clinging to the Disney parks, it’s also the one with the most variations. The one thing that most versions do agree upon is exactly what he haunts and where: Space Mountain at Disneyland in California.

Some accounts describe Mr. One-Way as a red-haired man with a red face; others say he’s a kid dressed in ‘70s-era clothing. The stories say he tends to hang out in the queue for Space Mountain, although whether or not he talks to people while waiting varies depending on who you ask: The red-haired man apparently doesn’t, but the boy does (although it’s worth noting that the kid version of Mr. One-Way doesn’t have any knowledge of the changes made to the park since the ‘70s). According to some video footage I’ve found , though, Mr. One-Way doesn’t wait in the queue at all; he appears only at the actual ride cars, approaching them from the opposite side of the waiting area — the side on which people are supposed to exit the ride — and sitting down in any empty seats he can find. It’s said he disappears right before you hit the final tunnel at the end of the ride.

For what it's worth, a second ghost dubbed "Disco Debbie" is also said to haunt Space Mountain, although her story is even weirder: She apparently glows in the dark.

The Monorail Ghost

The Monorail Ghost has something in common with Dolly and Debbie Stone: His story stems from a real incident. In 1966, a 19-year-old named Thomas Guy Cleveland tried to sneak into Disneyland in Anaheim by scaling the park’s outer fence and climbing along the Monorail track. He was struck and killed by an oncoming tram .

These days, it’s said that a spectral figure can sometimes be spotted prowling around the Monorail track . He apparently only appears at night, and he vanishes whenever a tram comes.

Consider this one a cautionary tale.

Whatever The Heck This Is

disney ghost girl

Load up this video and queue it up to about the 3:10 mark. You’ll see some CCTV footage of something… odd wandering around Disneyland. What’s super weird is that whatever it is, multiple cameras recorded it. We don’t really know who or what it was; some folks think it might be Walt, although I’ve heard stories that Roy O. Disney, Walt’s younger brother , might haunt the park as well. Or, y’know, maybe it’s just a trick of the light or something.

It’s still weird, though.

At the end of the day, these stories are all just that: Stories. But there's a kind of magic in ghost stories — and given that Disney is meant to be the most magical place on Earth? Well, it all kind of makes sense, then, doesn't it?

Background [ ]

Physical appearance [ ].

Spider-Gwen wears a black bodysuit with white areas that form a spider design, a white hood with the interior lining being magenta with cyan web patterns, matching magenta-and-cyan designs on her upper arms, and cyan soles to her boots.

Appearances [ ]

Marvel animation [ ], ultimate spider-man [ ].

A native of Miles' dimension, Gwen Stacy assumed the role of Spider-Woman after Miles was transported to Peter Parker 's dimension. Using technology stolen from her father 's robot program and with the help of her world's version of May Parker , Gwen became a superhero in Miles' absence by simulating spider powers despite having no spider powers of her own. However, due to her activity, she also had to deal with her father's pursuit of vigilantes.

When Miles returns along with Peter, Gwen helps them recover the remaining Siege Perilous piece, which was at the police station. Gwen goes to visit her father in order to distract him while Peter and Miles recover the piece. However, this fails when Wolf Spider attacks the station and soon takes Rio Morales hostage at Miles' home. After rescuing Rio, Peter, Gwen, and Miles confront Wolf Spider in his underwater lair. Wolf Spider claims the Siege Perilous and starts to drain the life-force of every spider-based character in the multiverse. During the battle, Miles and Gwen are claimed in the process, but Peter tricks Wolf Spider into claiming his life, as holding all the life-forces at once proves to be too much for Wolf Spider to handle. Wolf-Spider soon shatters, allowing the life-forces to return to their bodies. The three Spiders then leave the lair but run into Gwen's father who learned of his daughter's superhero life after speaking with Rio. George accepts Gwen's role and the two then reconcile.

Spider-Man [ ]

Gwen Stacy is a student at Horizon High and friends with Peter Parker , Miles Morales , and Anya Corazon. She is voiced by Laura Bailey . She was inspired by her uncle Raymond Warren (later revealed to be the villainous Jackal) to pursue science. She often assists Spider-Man in fights using her quick wits and genetic knowledge.

During the "Spider Island" arc, she was one of the first people affected by Jackal's spider chemicals spread into the air and gained spider superpowers. With her fans calling her "Spider Gwen", she assists Spider-Man in combating criminals until the chemicals cause her to mutate into a Man-Spider. She is later cured when Spider-Man spreads the cure for the city by exploding Osborn Academy.

Marvel Rising [ ]

Gwen appears in the 2018 franchise, with Dove Cameron reprising her role. In this continuity, she is referred to as Ghost-Spider . [1] She first appears as the protagonist of the Marvel Rising: Initiation shorts that precede the animated film, where she is on the run from the police and other superheroes after Ghost-Spider is framed for the murder of Gwen's friend, Kevin. She gains the trust of Ms. Marvel and Squirrel Girl following an encounter with the heroes before Ghost-Spider is inevitably captured by S.H.I.E.L.D. agents Quake and Patriot. However, she escapes with the help of Quake who discerned Ghost-Spider's civilian identity.

She returns in the special Marvel Rising: Chasing Ghosts followed by Marvel Rising: Heart of Iron .

Spidey and his Amazing Friends [ ]

Spidey team 33

Ghost-Spider with her friends Spidey and Spin in Spidey and his Amazing Friends .

Gwen appears in the Disney Junior animated series, voiced by Lily Sanfelippo . As Ghost-Spider, she defends New York City from villains alongside her friends, Peter (Spidey) and Miles (Spin). Like the Marvel Rising incarnation, Gwen has Gwen Pool's partially dyed pink highlights in her hair. She loves drumming, reading detective novels, and is really good at figuring out clues.

Marvel Cinematic Universe [ ]

Gwen Stacy does not appear in the MCU, but the version that appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man films (played by Emma Stone ) is mentioned in Spider-Man: No Way Home . Gwen's Peter Parker, the Amazing Spider-Man , tells his MCU counterpart about the death of his girlfriend, describing her as "his MJ ", the girlfriend of the MCU Peter. Gwen's Spider-Man explains that he will never forgive himself for his failure in saving her. While trying to move on from the loss and be the hero Gwen wanted him to be, he eventually became rageful and bitter.

Not wishing his younger counterpart to suffer and end up like him, the Amazing Spider-Man watches with fondness the relationship of this universe's Peter and MJ. At the Statue of Liberty, during the final battle of the film, MJ falls off the scaffolding and her Peter fails to reach her because of the interference of the Green Goblin . Horrified that his younger self might suffer the same as he did, he jumps and saves MJ, preventing her to die in a very similar way that Gwen did. Saving MJ from the same fate Gwen endured, makes the Amazing Spider-Man emotional and he almost cries while holding MJ when he safely lands with her on the ground.

Disney Parks [ ]

Web slingers: a spider-man adventure [ ].

There are several references to Gwen Stacy's Spider-Woman in the queue for this attraction where she is identified as a member of the Worldwide Engineering Brigade . Gwen's locker is located within the WEB facility with painted on feminist quotes, science jokes, and the logo for her band The Mary Janes . Additionally, Gwen's skateboard is locked up in the foyer with her Spider-Gwen color-scheme and, "The Mary Janes" printed on it. She is indirectly referenced on a notice-board featuring a poster for drummer-auditions in a punk band called The Gamma Rays which has Gwen's color-scheme.

  • Spider-Gwen was planned to be released as a figurine for the game Disney Infinity 3.0 prior to being canceled. [2]
  • Her appearance in Ultimate Spider-Man is Dove Cameron's second animated role, the first being as Mal in Descendants: Wicked World .
  • The primary version of Gwen Stacy in the Marvel Comics was the college girlfriend of Peter Parker who was tragically killed during a battle between Spider-Man and the Green Goblin . Her death is considered one of the most iconic moments in comic book history.
  • Unlike the Ultimate Spider-Man incarnation, her comic version was actually superpowered, hailing from an alternate dimension where she was bitten by the radioactive spider, rather than Peter Parker, who to get vengeance on bullies, transformed into the Lizard . In a battle that left Peter dead, Gwen was devastated, and sought to honor him by being a hero. This depiction of her reappears in Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors , albeit replacing Peter with an Inhuman named Kevin as her best friend.

10 scariest movies actually made by disney.

If you're looking for a little monster in your magic, you've come to the right place. These are ten horror flicks made by Disney.

The words 'Disney' and 'horror' are two that don't seem like they should ever be in the same ballpark, don't they? But you'd be surprised at how many films in Disney's library actually fit into the horror genre. Sure, they've done their classic Halloween flicks with spooks and scares, but how about some real horror?

RELATED:  10 Animated Kids Movies That Pushed the G/PG Rating

The brand might be associated with all things happy and magical, but they've got some skeletons and specters in their closet. If you're looking for a little monster in your magic, you've come to the right place. These are ten horror flicks made by Disney.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

We know we're cheating by only putting half a movie on our list, but who can say their Halloween is complete without being exposed to this classic? Not only is Disney's adaptation of  Sleepy Hollow  one of the most accurate versions of the tale, but it is possibly the epitome of a gothic cartoon.

Think about that third act of the feature. Aside from a few gags in the chase sequence, this is a pretty creepy sequence for Disney. For a kid, Disney's Headless Horseman is one tough customer, with or without a catchy theme song. Do we even need to mention that bone-chilling laugh of his?

Where would the wonderful and weird side of Disney be without the creative genius of Tim Burton? Inspired by a short-film Disney deemed "too dark," the studio decided to let him make  Frankenweenie  into a full feature film. Yeah, noodle that one a while.

RELATED:  10 Hocus Pocus Memes That Are Too Funny

Burton has always had a knack for stop-motion and, next to  Corpse Bride,  this is probably his best work in the medium. Though definitely charming with its heartwarming boy-and-his-dog narrative, the references to classic monsters, eerie Burton-designed visuals, and nightmarish monsters, it's definitely creepier than your average animated outing from Walt Disney Pictures.

Hocus Pocus

We know it's more of a comedy than a straight-up horror flick, but consider the elements that go into making this '90s masterpiece. The Sanderson sisters are witches that prey on children, ax off a little girl in the film's opening, are hanged and later burned alive, and their entire scheme is to bewitch the young victims of Salem. That's some pretty heavy stuff.

This film definitely warrants its PG rating, though it does well to balance out the horror with the humor. Since its resurgence in recent years, we're honestly quite happy to welcome the Sandersons back after all this time.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl

"Ye best start believin' in ghost stories, Miss Turner..." Who would have thought that a film inspired by a Disney attraction would spawn a successful series and a role that would be the crowning achievement of Johnny Depp's career? Though it was inspired by a Disney ride, that doesn't mean it didn't have a share of scares.

RELATED:  Pirates of the Caribbean: 10 Worst Things Jack Sparrow Ever Did

With undead skeletons, jumpscares, and ancient curses, there's no doubt the swashbuckling adventure has its share of horror tropes. Of the series, it's definitely our favorite, but it's a Disney flick that was worthy of their first PG-13 rating.

Something Wicked This Way Comes

If there was one Disney film that represents the word chilling, it's this unsettling film. Based on Ray Bradbury's terrifying novel with a screenplay written by the author himself, this eerie outing tells the tale of what happens when a sinister circus sweeps through a sleepy little town.

There's no death, no gore, and no graphic violence , but this film definitely makes us a bit uneasy. Though not nearly as scary as the source material, there's always a mysterious and foreboding atmosphere whenever Mr. Dark's circus troupe takes the screen. An underrated Disney flick if ever there was one, don't be afraid to step into the big top some night.

Disney's A Christmas Carol

We know what you're thinking, what on earth is a Christmas flick doing on this list? Simple, Disney is one of the few studios to recognize that Charles Dickens' classic holiday tale is a ghost story first and a Christmas story second. The original text even calls it "a ghost story of Christmas", and you can bet your boots Disney stuck to that idea.

RELATED:  Disney's 10 Most Creative Uses of CGI, Ranked

From the corpse-like visage of Jacob Marley to the graphic and gruesome demise of the Ghost of Christmas Present, this is definitely not your mom and dad's  Christmas Carol.  The over-the-top effects and eerie visuals really make this flick a haunted holiday favorite.

Don't Look Under the Bed

The only Disney Channel Original Movie to be featured on our list,  Don't Look Under the Bed is infamous for its unexpected creep factor. When a teen evokes the wrath of the horrifying Boogeyman, she must team up with her brother's imaginary friend to save him from the Boogeyman's clutches.

The plot is all over the place, but the effects, visuals, and images are definitely some Disney-made nightmare fuel. We're talking creepy dolls, giant snakes, and all manner of monsters creeping about. It's definitely a DCOM that no viewer will forget, for good or for bad. We know we won't.

Return To Oz

When you hear the title  The Wizard of Oz,  you probably think of scarecrows, Munchkins, and flying monkeys, right? Well, what about rock monsters, shock therapy, and a witch with a collection of interchangeable heads? Because that's exactly what Disney gave us in  Return to Oz.

RELATED:  10 Mistakes People Still Make About Disney Characters

Though it's considered a cult film amongst Disney fans nowadays, when this dark fantasy was first released, critics bashed it for being too scary. To be fair, they weren't wrong. But, because the film was so imaginative and creative, it has its audience. The film can be a surreal dreamscape or a twisted nightmare, you'll just have to watch for yourself.

The Black Cauldron

Speaking of dark fantasy films, how about we talk about the movie that not only almost killed Disney Animation Studios but nearly warranted an R rating.  The Black Cauldron  is definitely one of the darkest things ever to be spawned from Disney, and its reputation is more than deserved, but that doesn't mean it's a bad film.

The film itself isn't awful, it's just incomplete. You can think Katzenberg for cutting over 11 minutes from the final product. If you're looking to see something definitely outside of Disney's comfort zone, this is it. And, if the Horned King didn't tip you off, you're in for a few scares.

The Watcher in the Woods

Of all the movies on this list, this is the one that is 100%, pure, purposeful, frightening, horror.  The Watcher in the Woods  is a paranormal thriller with just a touch of sci-fi for good measure.

Take a haunted house with a terrible history, a missing little girl, and a presence/entity that stalks the main characters and you've got a pretty good scary movie. While it's true this is still a family-friendly film, its horror takes a few queues from movies like  The Haunting  and even  The Evil Dead.  Eerie, unsettling, and downright chilling, this film proves Disney can do horror just as well as anyone else.

Is disney california adventures haunted by the ghost of a little girl.

disney ghost girl

Most of you that know me personally know of how great my love/obsession with Disneyland is. Since 2012 I have been there multiple times. I even wrote something on the ghosts of Disneyland which I really need to revisit sometime soon. So imagine my surprise when I was told of a new story, this time across from the original park at Disney's California Adventures.

@thedavidvaughn Reply to @el_gorio #greenscreen how are we all seeing the same Disneyland ghost girl FOR REAL??? ♬ original sound - David - Disneyland Tips

My friend Michele shared with me the above Tik Tok video of someone claiming that multiple people have unknowingly seen the ghost of a little girl at California Adventure. He had stated in an earlier video that he was at the lockers as you first enter the park and saw a little girl out of the corner of his eyes. Turning to look she suddenly wasn't there. He was accompanied by his sister and she had the same experience. Current and former cast members started to comment they had seen her too, one former member who used to work one of the candy stores in DCA even told a story on how he was working late one night and on his walkie talkie he could hear security calling out a little girl being seen in different parts in the park and could even be seen on camera.

@thedavidvaughn ##duet with @cheify9 The Disneyland ghost girl spotted by security in California Adventure ##disneyland ##ghosts ♬ original sound - Anthony Reyes32313

So multiple have claimed to see this little girl in different parks at different times and even when the park is closed, but is this really a ghost and if so where is there any data to back this up? Doing a bit of digging on the Disneyland forums I found a post from someone that a little girl was killed in the old Disneyland parking lot some time in 1985. If true this would make sense as Disney's California Adventure was built over the old parking lot. Doing a quick Google search I was able to find out that this story was indeed true and that sadly around September 15 1985 a seven year old girl was crushed by a tour bus from Santa Barbara. Apparently she was trying to cross the lot with a relative and somehow fell into the side of the bus. Sadly the poor thing was ran over by the rear wheels of the bus and was killed. The link to the original article can be found here .

So now we have a confirmed death and numerous sightings of a little girl wandering the park by multiple witnesses. This has me wondering, does she not know she is dead and in a state of confusion is looking for the relative that was with her when she died? Or does she know that she is and instead wanders the park, eternally enjoying the place as a little kid? One thing is for sure is that numerous people have seen her and Disneyland may not just be the happiest place on earth but one of the most haunted. Also you can find me here on Tik Tok. I'm trying to add old videos and will be posting some new ones as well.
