Instructions

Yacht is a classic dice-rolling game that inspired the hit game Yahtzee by Milton Bradley. Play online against random opponents, create a game with your friends, or practice against the computer.

In Yacht, you need to make specific combinations that score the most points possible at the end of three rolls. At the end of the game, whoever has the most points wins.

Every turn, you have three dice rolls. After your first roll, you can choose to hold dice. The dice you hold will not be part of your next roll. After three rolls, pick a category on the scorecard to lock in your points. If you aren't sure what each category means, tap on the name to get more details.

HINT: If you score 63 or more points in the upper section of the scorecard, you'll earn a 35-point bonus.

You can either play this game against a computer, or play online and go head-to-head against players anywhere in the world. Either way, you can expect to have a fun and exciting challenge.

Probably the biggest factor in this dice game is whether or not you are able to get the 35-point bonus. Because of this, you should try and focus on the upper section in order to work toward that bonus.

Make sure to keep your chance section clear for as long as you can. It is nice to have a safety net that can catch you if you have a bad roll.

Every turn, you have three dice rolls. After your first roll, you can choose to hold dice. The dice you hold will not be part of your next roll. After three rolls, pick a category on the scorecard to lock in your points. If you aren't sure what each category means, mouse over the name to get more details.

Is Yahtzee similar to the Yacht Dice Game?

Besides a few small rule changes, Yahtzee and Yacht are very similar games. If you have a decent understanding of the game Yahtzee, then learning how to play Yacht will be no problem at all.

Best Places to Buy a Boat Online

If you are shopping for a new or used boat, there are dozens of sites where you can go to help find the boat of your dreams.  But which sites should you focus your time and attention? In this article, I identify the most popular boat listing sites in the US and describe what I like and dislike about each.  Plus, I provide recommendations regarding which sites you should investigate for certain types of boats.

Evaluation Process

To help identify the best places to buy boats online, I examined several pieces of information:

  • Total Visits: This is the total number of times that the site was visited worldwide as of August of 2022. Note that this is not the same as visitors since a given individual might visit the same site multiple times.  Nonetheless, it is a good proxy of the site’s popularity.
  • US Rank: This is the relative frequency that the site was visited in the US in comparison to all other websites.
  • Listings: The total number of boats listed on the site (as of October 2022), if available. However, it should be noted that some sites inflate this by reposting listing from other classified sources.
  • Search/filter functionality: Some sites make it easier than others to find a boat that meets your needs and is relatively close to where you live.

In addition to the above factors, I also examined who owns the site, how they differentiate themselves from others, and where they get their listings (e.g., dealers, brokers or private parties).

Most Popular Boat Listing Sites

The table below lists the most popular sites to buy a boat based on the total number of visits (as of August 2022).  These are sites that cater to a variety of boat types.  Sites that focus on specific types of boats are discussed separately.

It is important to note that the number of visits are to the site specifically.  However, in many cases, the total exposure might actually be higher because some sites also publish listings to various social media outlets (e.g., Facebook) and other sites.

The first three sites in the list, Boat Trader, Yacht World and Boats.com are the largest by far and are all part of the same organization – the Boats Group.  Of these, Yacht World is different than the other two since all boats on the site are represented by a professional yacht broker.

Boat Trader

Boat Trader, the largest boat listing site, started as a print magazine in 1991 but later evolved into online only.  According to the company website,  “Boat Trader is America’s largest online boating marketplace for buying and selling boats, engines and personal watercraft.”  They have a huge listing of boats (both new and used) that are offered by both dealers and private parties.

  • Huge selection of boats
  • Detailed filtering criteria
  • Able to search by distance
  • Able to save searches and receive email alerts whenever new listings match search criteria
  • Many listings without price

Yacht World

As part of the Boats Group family (along with Boat Trader and Boats.com), Yacht World is the go-to site for larger boats sold through a broker.  According to the company website, “YachtWorld has the largest database of brokerage boats for sale offered by more than 2,900 yacht brokers and 70 manufacturers worldwide.”

  • Good selection of larger boats
  • Excellent boat details
  • Unable to search by distance
  • Need to buy through broker instead of a private party
  • Not appropriate for smaller/less expensive boats

Launched in 1999 during the early stages of the dot-com boom, Boats.com is a leading provider of boat listings from dealers and private parties.  In 2010, the company joined with Boat Trader as part of the Boats Group conglomerate.  Though the two sites are fairly similar, boats.com focuses more on general boating content (e.g., news and events, maintenance,  fishing and watersports) in addition to information related to the buying and selling of boats to position it as the site for “everything boats”.

  • Large selection of boats
  • Cannot save search query or get email alerts

As one of the oldest online boat listing sites, iBoats is also one of the more diverse.  In addition to listing new and used boats, they also offer a wide variety of boat parts and accessories and are home to one of the largest boating forums on the internet.

  • Easy to use search/filtering process
  • Most listings are from dealers, not private parties

This is a commission-based site that will list boats from dealers, brokers and private parties.  The name POP stands for “paid on performance” meaning that, if they don’t sell the boat, they are not paid a fee.  Besides featuring boats on their own website, the company has relationships with over 100 other sites including BoatTrader.com, boats.com, Facebook and MoreBoats.com to maximize exposure for their listings. Another unique aspect of POP Yachts is that they handle the entire listing process (photos, description, etc.) on behalf of the seller.  Because of this, their listings are very professional, consistent and thorough.  However, since the minimum commission is $2,750, this site naturally caters to larger vessels.

  • All listings show the price
  • For larger/more expensive boats only

This is an internet-based platform to help dealers market their boats to consumers.  They do not offer listings from private parties.

  • “Clean” (uncluttered) and attractive website
  • Boat type drop-down list does not include “Aluminum Fishing”
  • Unable to save searches or receive email alerts

Though not one of the larger sites, Boat Crazy has a very nice looking and professional platform to display boats from dealers and private parties.  Plus boats listed with the company are also displayed on Facebook Marketplace to garner even more exposure.  In addition to boat listings, Boat Crazy sells merchandise and accessories and provides a number of helpful resources and guides to help those thinking about buying or selling a boat.

  • Repost listings on Facebook Marketplace
  • Helpful tools and guides for buyers/sellers
  • Search uses fixed price ranges (e.g., $50,000 to $100,000) which might be too broad

BoatMart represents the recent expansion (April 2021) into the boat marketplace by Trader Interactive – parent company of PWC Trader, Cycle Trader, ATV Trader, RV Trader, Snowmobile Trader, Aero Trader and others.  Note that this should not be confused with Boat Trader which is owned by a separate company, Boats Group.  The search function is a bit different from that on other sites and takes a little getting used to.  However, it does provide many options to filter selections.  One nice feature of this site is that they will email you if the price drops on a listing that you are interested in.  Plus, for those thinking of selling a boat, they currently offer a free 30-day listing to help build their boat inventory.

  • Can save searches and receive email alerts for new listings AND price drops
  • Can list boat for free for 30 days at present
  • The “Class” drop-down list does not include “Aluminum Fishing” (common problem with many sites since they likely copied one-another)
  • Some of the data is “dirty”/inconsistent (e.g., Malibu and Malibu boats are listed as separate makes)

Boats for Sale

The goal of this site is to make buying and selling a boat as easy as possible.  They have a good search/filter function (though, like many sites, they don’t have an “Aluminum Fishing” category, you can still get their by selecting “Fishing Boat” for the type and “Aluminum” from the Hull Material list under the Advanced Filters).  Additionally, they offer a number of services for boat buyers such as financing, insurance and extended protection and will even provide a cash offer for those thinking of selling.  Plus, they are currently offering to list your boat for free as a way to boost their boat inventory.

  • Easy to use search/filter process
  • Can save searches and receive email alerts for new listings
  • Numerous services to help buyers/sellers
  • Some listings without prices

Headquartered in the UK, Right Boat is different from other sites in that it offers both boat sales and charters and has a more international focus.  According to the company website, “Rightboat.com is the world’s biggest online marketplace for boats for sale and yachts for charter.”  For a similar site with an international focus, consider topboats.com as well.

  • Lists boats for sale in other countries besides the US
  • Cannot easily search by specific boat type (uses Keywords only)
  • Cannot search by distance (only Country and State)
  • Many listings do not have images

Specialty Boat Sites

In addition to the general boating sites mentioned above, there are a number of sites that cater to specific boat niches.  While they might not have the overall traffic of the broader sites, some get excellent exposure for the type(s) of product that they specialize in.  As such, they might be worth checking out as well – depending on the type of boat you are looking for.

Bass Boat Central

Bass anglers are a fanatical bunch and are always looking for products, information or suggestions to improve their on-water performance.  That is part of the reasons why that, despite its very rudimentary appearance, Bass Boat Central enjoys considerable traffic from tournament anglers and other bass fishing enthusiasts.  The ability to see boats for sale from other members is only a small portion of the site.  Visitors can also find area clubs, see how others have “set up” their rig, or participate in dozens of forums for various boat and engine brands, regions, or fishing topics (at the bbcboards.net sub-site).  It is important to note that the “Total Visits” and “Rank” above is for the overall Bass Boat Central site, not just the classifieds section.

  • Sizeable number of tournament-level bass boats listed
  • An extensive community of members available to assist with product questions
  • Appearance and layout of the site is severely lacking
  • Very limited search/filter capabilities

A related but much smaller website catering to bass anglers is www.bassboat4sale.com .  The cool thing about this site is that there is a separate listing of boats for sale from Pro anglers and VIPs.

Part of Trader Interactive (again, no relation to Boat Trader), PWC Trader has a large selection of Personal Watercraft listed on its site and enjoys considerable traffic.  This is definitely a place to consider if you are in the market for a PWC.

  • Large number of PWCs listed
  • Good search/filter capabilities that are specific to PWCs (e.g., Two Seater, Three Seater, etc.)
  • Not all listings include prices

Powerboat Listings

This site specializes in listings for High Performance (aka, “Cigarette”) boats and other larger vessels.

  • Professional/attractive looking site
  • Good number of High-Performance boats listed
  • Can easily see listing by major High-Performance makes or hull types (V-Hulls, Catamarans)
  • Can post an ad for free
  • Cannot search by distance (but can search by state)

  Only Inboards

If you are in the market for a Wake boat or competition ski boat, you might want to check out this site.  They have a fairly large number of listings and offer accessories for this style of boat.

  • Good number of Wake and competition ski boats listed
  • Has search criteria specific to inboards (drive type, models, engine hours)
  • Shows sold boats and prices to help you determine an appropriate price or what to offer
  • Not all listings show prices

  Pontoons Only

As the name suggests, this newer site is exclusively for Pontoons and is operated by the same company that manages Only Inboards.

  • Can list boats for free
  • Fairly small number of listings at present
  • Would like to have ability to filter by pontoons vs. tri-toons

General Merchandise Sites

Here are a couple of sites that are not specific to boating but should not be overlooked because of their huge volume of traffic.  However, because they are not set up specifically for boating, they have more limited search capabilities and so it may take longer to sort through listings.

Facebook Marketplace

With its massive exposure and ability to see buyer and seller profiles, Facebook Marketplace appears to have replaced Craigslist as the general merchandise site for boat shoppers.  To find boats, look within the “Vehicles” category and click on “Boats”.

  • Ability to see buyer and seller profiles – provides a degree of reassurance from scammers
  • Massive-traffic site (helpful if selling)
  • Boats can be listed for free
  • If selling a boat, you might have to respond to numerous questions and “low-ballers”
  • Very limited search ability (just price, year and distance). Cannot search by boat type.
  • The quality of listing details varies by seller (no consistent format)
  • Unable to save searches and receive email alerts for new listings. Would need to re-check site often.

This is a very popular online classifieds site for various goods in local markets.  At one time, it was a very popular place to buy and sell boats although it seems that more people are shifting to Facebook Marketplace and other boating-specific sites nowadays.

  • Can locate boats nearby
  • Often offer more lower-priced options
  • High-traffic site (helpful if selling)
  • No frills/rudimentary site
  • Popular site for scammers. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.  Do not buy without personally inspecting the boat and making sure the title is in order.  Be sure to check out the Craigslist tips for avoiding scams .
  • Do not have ability to search by specific boat types

Recommendations

So now that you know the best places to shop for a boat online, where should you go to find the boat of your dreams? Since you can search for a boat for free (other than your time), you will likely want to check out multiple sites. Minimally, I would start with the two most popular general boat listing sites – Boat Trader and Boats.com and also check out Facebook Marketplace. Plus, I would check each of the smaller (general boating) sites that enable you to save your search and receive email notifications (e.g., Boatline and Boats for Sale).

If you are shopping for a larger boat, then you should also add Yacht World and POP Yachts to your list.  Likewise, for those shopping outside of the US, Right Boat and Top Boats might be worth checking out.

Finally, if you happen to be looking for a Bass Boat, PWC, Wake/Ski boat, High-Performance boat or a pontoon, be sure to check out the corresponding specialty site listed above as well.

Where have you had the best success in shopping for a boat? Let us know, along with the type of boat you were shopping for, in the comments section below.

what our members are saying about their boats

“This boat gives you a fast, dry, and smooth ride.”  (Overall Rating: 10)
“Wide beam and large cockpit.  Love the open feel.” (Overall Rating: 9)
“The Formula brand is a well-built boat that uses high end components and has things such as fume detection for the bilge and other items like that are not seen on other brands. The seats are very comfortable and both interior and exterior are holding up extremely well. The boat handles great and has a very solid ride.” (Overall Rating: 10)
“Not many people are very familiar with Bryant but they build a quality boat that is a bit more affordable than some of the other premium names. I have had this boat 5 years now and it looks great and rides well.” (Overall Rating: 9)
“It’s the best all-weather boat I’ve owned for lakes. Handles just about anything that’s marginal to get back to the ramp safely. And plenty of storage room, actually it could be too much room at times.” (Overall Rating: 10)
“When I bought it , it was probably the best deal one could find for a fiberglass bass boat with absolutely no wood in it. The boat and Yamaha 70 have performed flawlessly for 12 years.” (Overall Rating: 10)
“This model falls into the category that most salt water fishermen refer to as “Bay Boat”. It has a center console which provides tremendous stability and a deeper hull than a “flats” boat for smoother ride on choppy water. The boat is made for fishing and has very few comfort features for cruising. It is not my favorite hull because it draws a little more water than some of the other shallow water bay boats such as Pathfinder.” (Overall Rating: 9)
“Great boat, solid ride… great bay boat for fishing. Fast with Yamaha 300!!” (Overall Rating: 10)
“Excellent high-end Pontoon Boat with a 400hp R Mercury outboard Racing motor. Too nice to be a Pontoon Boat. Rear twin electric recliners.” (Overall Rating: 9)
“We had a lot of fun using this boat the past summer. it can accommodate nine persons, has comfortable seating for all passengers, is easy to board for both passengers and water skiers, handles well in rough water, is easy to launch and dock, looks great on the water and drew lots of compliments from all who saw it on the water.” (Overall Rating: 10)
“Great boat and a great price point. Carolina flare and deadrise makes for an exceptionally dry boat which I would expect from any Carolina boat builder that builds primarily for the Atlantic. This is not a shallow draft boat for its size, however….I would say it drafts in 12″ +.” (Overall Rating: 8)

Time for a bigger boat? Check out what the Palm Beach International Boat Show has to offer

the yacht online

Whether you're the son of a son of a sailor or even just love that song and want to know more, the granddaddy of all boating events is happening this weekend along the West Palm Beach waterfront.

That's right, the Palm Beach International Boat Show is back for four glorious days along Flagler Drive.

This will be the 42nd annual event, and organizers promise it will be bigger and better than ever.

There will be $1.2 billion worth of Bond-worthy super yachts, cruisers, sportfishing boats, center consoles and even inflatables to see and tour, along with attractions and activities highlighting the latest in boat engines, motors and accessories. There will also be the latest fishing gear and even fishing seminars.

Yes, it's a big event, but don't be intimidated. In fact, here are seven fun facts about the show:

How many boats can this boat show boast?

There will be more than 800 boats on display along the floating docks in the Intracoastal Waterway.

What is the biggest boat at the boat show?

With a length of 236 feet (and 38 feet wide), Casino Royale takes the title for largest boat this year. This gorgeous yacht, designed for her exterior lines by Francesco Paszkowski with interior by Paszkowski’s interior lead designer Margherita Casprini, is also one of the most technically advanced yachts in her category. Casino Royale is powered by twin Caterpillar 3516B main engines and has an impressive top speed of 17.5 knots. You can put your checkbooks away for this one, however, as she is only on display and not for sale.

This boat is the boat show's most epensive

Built in 2022 and 196-feet long, Come Together is listed for $59,950,000. This expedition yacht was delivered by the Dutch shipyard Amels and features interior styling by British designer Winch Design. It can comfortably accommodate up to 12 guests in six cabins along with 14 crew members.

Are spectators allowed to go on the boats?

To go onboard the yachts and superyachts, visitors must make an appointment with the brokers. For the smaller boats, however, spectators can come onboard if they are interested in buying.

What is the smallest boat?

The smallest boat being displayed on the water is a runabout boat that is 22-feet-6-inches long, and 5-feet-11 wide. It is manufactured by Hermes.

Eating inside the boat show

The show will have dozens of food concessions featuring almost anything you could be craving, from Greek gyros to woodfired picanha, authentic street tacos and hand-crafted burgers. On a seafood diet? Enjoy fresh stone crab claws, calamari, oysters, and much more! Vegetarian, vegan, and/or gluten-free? No problem; they have options for you as well.

And libations at the boat show?

Of course there will be drinks. To be precise, there will be four bars for general admission guests, including two floating cocktail barges: the Goslings Island Bar and the Anheuser-Busch Barge. In addition there will be multiple bars in the Windward VIP Club.

While a yacht may be the first thing that pops to mind when you think of the ultra-wealthy, chartering one might not be as expensive as you think. When you're splitting the costs between several family members or friends you are paying for transportation and stay and it can make sense financially.

You can also  keep money in your wallet  by selecting an older vessel or taking charge of sailing yourself (hiring a crew always costs extra).

So let’s take a look at options that may be within reach for people who aren’t living paycheck to paycheck but aren’t brunching with the Kardashians either.

Editor's note: prices are subject to change and may vary depending on the time of the year.

'Negligence' by Caribbean police blamed in murders of Americans on yacht: prime minister

Charges against grenada officers include making false statements and permitting the escape of prisoners.

Three Caribbean prison escapees, who allegedly killed an American couple, were placed in the wrong cells that were less secure, despite warnings they were dangerous and flight risks, the Grenada prime minister said this week.

Ron Mitchell, 30, Trevon Robertson, 23, and Abita Stanislaus, 25, were supposed to be placed in individual jail cells that had a "secure locking mechanism," Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell said.

Instead, they were "in a corridor" with burglar bars that suspects bent and broke free from South St. George Police Station on Feb. 18, according to Mitchell, who added that four officers were arrested.

"It is clear that had the men been placed in the individual locking cells which had proper functioning locking mechanisms, they would not have escaped or had the opportunity to escape," the prime minister said. "The investigation concluded … human error, primarily in the form of negligence, played a pivotal role in the escape."

The fleeing suspects hijacked Ralph Hendry and Kathy Brandel's yacht during a violent altercation that allegedly included Brandel's rape.

The retired couple from Virginia were allegedly thrown overboard somewhere between Grenada, where the suspects escaped, and the island of St. Vincent, where they were ultimately recaptured.

"So far," four officers were arrested and charged with several crimes under the country's Police Act, including making a false statement, permitting the escape of prisoners and breaches of the Standing Orders, the prime minister said.

"It is also clear that the leadership at the station is a matter that requires attention as well, and the commission of police has commissioned an investigation into the role of leadership at the time (of the escape)," Mitchell said during a March 13 press conference.

Despite the negligence and arrests, Mitchell expressed his support for law enforcement and said "disrespecting the police will not be tolerated."

Authorities still have not found Hendry or Brandel's bodies in the 70-plus miles of water between the two islands.

Last week, the suspects were returned to Grenada, where they were all charged with two counts of capital murder , escaping lawful custody, housebreaking, robbery and two counts of kidnapping. Stanislaus was also charged with rape.

Robertson was shot by police on St. Vincent during his arrest.

Police said he reached for an officer's gun, according to Searchlight and other local outlets, but he denied this narrative during his court appearance.

"I never wrestle with no officer," he reportedly told the judge. "The officer throw me on the ground and just shoot me on me foot, you understand? I never wrestle with no police, you understand?"

The beloved couple's yacht – "Simplicity" – was docked off Grand Anse Beach in Grenada, a popular tourist hot spot that the couple sailed to, when the suspects allegedly took the vessel by force as part of their getaway.

Their sons, Nick Buro and Bryan Hendry, talked about their parents' impact on them and others in previous interviews.

"Ralph and Kathy lived a life that most of us can only dream of," they said in a heartfelt message.

They sailed off the eastern coast of the United States and "made friends with everyone they encountered, singing, dancing and laughing with friends and family."

"That's who Ralph and Kathy were and that’s how they will be remembered in our hearts," they said. "We live in a world that at times can be cruel, but it’s also a world of profound beauty, wonder, adventure, love, compassion, caring and faith.

"Our parents encompassed all those values and so much more."
