Like all Bruckmann yachts, TRUANT, a 2007 example, is a beautiful, classic Downeast yacht that has all the features necessary for short cruises, day trips, afternoon, or evening cruises, or even a fishing trip. The open cockpit is wide and spacious. The main cabin is comfortably set up for the helmsman and company. Down below is a nice breakfast nook and galley, head, storage lockers, and a reasonably large v-berth. The engine was recently overhauled, and the fuel tanks were inspected. All the woodwork is in beautiful condition and has been well-maintained.

About Bruckmann Blue Star 29.9's

The 29' Bruckmann Blue Star 29.9 is a classic HIGH-QUALITY Deep Vee hull design that also has a list of desirable features that enable it to go offshore or spend the night below in a comfortable cabin with a full galley, enclosed head, a "coffee nook" for breakfast.

It's big enough to accommodate 6 people for cocktails, 4 people for dinner, and 2 people for the night. (Accommodations for grandchildren can of course be made in the main cabin or in the cockpit in good weather) Although the Blue Star 29.9 has been discontinued, Bruckmann Yachts are still being made and the People at Bruckmann have always answered the phone and been available to help with issues about the boat.

The "Down East Design" is quickly recognized and "Truant" has the Classic Blue Hull, Green bottom, white cabin sides, and top with just enough varnished teak to accent and show off the classic look. The desirable "Hard Top" allows for much easier access to the bow, easier maintenance, interior lighting, quieter and drier riding, and can accommodate more equipment inside or on top.

Truant 33 Pilothouse with the top sides of the hull professionally refinished in glistening white Concept II in August 2014. Freshly anti-fouled with new zincs at that time. The product of three design teams working together, over two years, to develop a truly custom yacht which must be seen to be fully appreciated. Full Details

When entering the main salon from the large cockpit, you immediately recognize the high level of quality. There is fine mahogany woodwork with high gloss finish throughout the boat and the attention to detail is striking! The volume of space is equal to that of a much larger boat. The main salons large windows allow great views and an abundance of natural light. Along the port side of the salon there is a full bank of custom cabinetry with drawers, a fold out table, shelving for china and glassware and entertainment systems. To starboard there is a settee with a cockpit table aft. The lower helm is forward, starboard side with a bench seat for two.

The wrap around windshield forward of the helm area also serves as the skylight for the galley, which is just a few steps down on the port side. The galley is the centerpiece of the boat and would rival that of any mega yacht! Features include marble counter-tops, high end appliances and an island workstation with matching marble counter. There is also a washer and dryer built-in and smartly hidden away behind the cabinetry.

Opposite the galley, starboard side, is a guest stateroom with twin berths, fore and aft, en-suite head, flat screen TV, storage and hanging lockers. Forward along the starboard side there is a second guest "bunk room" which can sleep up two four. The twin berths are arranged in an L-shaped fashion with Pullman berths above. Each berth has it's own flat-screen TV with privacy headsets. There is an en-suite head with stall shower.

The spacious master stateroom is forward and has a queen size island berth, a large vanity table with mirrored cabinetry, flat screen TV, en-suite head with large stall shower and over-sized hanging lockers and drawer storage. Each head aboard "TRUANT" features custom granite counter-tops with an under-mount sink, a separate stall shower with custom Italian tile work and mirrored cabinetry.

A crew cabin with double berth and private head is located aft of the walk in engine room.

• The main salon is accessed from the cockpit through the sliding double teak doors. Immediately to starboard is a built-in sofa and end tables with cabinet storage forward and aft. In front of the sofa is a free standing, beautifully varnished custom oval table with fold out leaves. To port aft is an entertainment center with storage. Below the port side windows is a long fore and aft buffet with a custom fold-out dining table and two swivel arm chairs. Forward to port is a nav station and chart table. To starboard is the helm station with updated Simrad electronics.TV and entertainment center

Truant is equipped with a stunning galley that rivals those of much larger yachts. A top US design firm partnered with Vicem to customize this exceptional space that will satisfy the needs of even the most discerning gourmet chef. The galley is accessed down four steps from the salon and boasts a large marble top kitchen island with sink. In the island is cabinet and drawer storage and a two drawer dishwasher. Forward is the full-sized refrigerator/freezer. Outboard is another marble topped counter with cabinet storage and an electric oven below. Atop the counters are the cooktops and appliances. On the aft bulkhead is the main electrical distribution panel. Below are a convection microwave and warming drawer. Clothes washer and dryer are concealed behind louvered doors. Ample light is provided from the windshield, an overhead smoked plexiglass Bomar hatch, two stainless steel opening portlights, and overhead and undercabinet recessed lighting.

HULL & DECK

Vicem Yachts, the noted Turkish builder of fine handcrafted classic style motor yachts are well known for their high level of quality, joinery and elegance. They utilize only the finest materials and state of the art composite construction techniques. To set the groundwork for a finely constructed boat, each Vicem hull is hand laid and cold molded. The exterior of the hull is covered with a layer of E-glass woven cloth with epoxy and finished with Awlgrip paint. The cockpit sole and decks are covered with Teak decking.

When entering the main salon from the large cockpit, you immediately recognize the high level of quality. There is fine mahogany woodwork with high gloss finish throughout the boat and the attention to detail is striking! The volume of space is equal to that of a much larger boat. The main salons large windows allow great views and an abundance of natural light. Along the port side of the salon there is a full bank of custom cabinetry with drawers, a fold out table, shelving for china and glassware and entertainment systems. To starboard there is a settee with a cockpit table aft. The lower helm is forward, starboard side with a bench seat for two.

The wrap around windshield forward of the helm area also serves as the skylight for the galley, which is just a few steps down on the port side. The galley is the centerpiece of the boat and would rival that of any mega yacht! Features include marble counter-tops, high end appliances and an island workstation with matching marble counter. There is also a washer and dryer built-in and smartly hidden away behind the cabinetry.

Opposite the galley, starboard side, is a guest stateroom with twin berths, fore and aft, en-suite head, flat screen TV, storage and hanging lockers. Forward along the starboard side there is a second guest "bunk room" which can sleep up two four. The twin berths are arranged in an L-shaped fashion with Pullman berths above. Each berth has it's own flat-screen TV with privacy headsets. There is an en-suite head with stall shower.

The spacious master stateroom is forward and has a queen size island berth, a large vanity table with mirrored cabinetry, flat screen TV, en-suite head with large stall shower and over-sized hanging lockers and drawer storage. Each head aboard "TRUANT" features custom granite counter-tops with an under-mount sink, a separate stall shower with custom Italian tile work and mirrored cabinetry.

A crew cabin with double berth and private head is located aft of the walk in engine room.

• The main salon is accessed from the cockpit through the sliding double teak doors. Immediately to starboard is a built-in sofa and end tables with cabinet storage forward and aft. In front of the sofa is a free standing, beautifully varnished custom oval table with fold out leaves. To port aft is an entertainment center with storage. Below the port side windows is a long fore and aft buffet with a custom fold-out dining table and two swivel arm chairs. Forward to port is a nav station and chart table. To starboard is the helm station with updated Simrad electronics.TV and entertainment center

Truant is equipped with a stunning galley that rivals those of much larger yachts. A top US design firm partnered with Vicem to customize this exceptional space that will satisfy the needs of even the most discerning gourmet chef. The galley is accessed down four steps from the salon and boasts a large marble top kitchen island with sink. In the island is cabinet and drawer storage and a two drawer dishwasher. Forward is the full-sized refrigerator/freezer. Outboard is another marble topped counter with cabinet storage and an electric oven below. Atop the counters are the cooktops and appliances. On the aft bulkhead is the main electrical distribution panel. Below are a convection microwave and warming drawer. Clothes washer and dryer are concealed behind louvered doors. Ample light is provided from the windshield, an overhead smoked plexiglass Bomar hatch, two stainless steel opening portlights, and overhead and undercabinet recessed lighting.

The Incredible Aluminium Nordia 55 TRUANT OF SARK is for sale

A yacht that we know well, she was commissioned by her first owner in 1995 and built by the Royal Van Dam Shipyard of aluminium. The first of her class, her owners commissioned interior designers Fieldwork to orchestrate the interior design. The result is a delight in cherry wood with marquetry, made flesh faultlessly by her builders.

Conceived and built for a world cruise, this she undertook with great success, sailing extensively in both the planet’s hemispheres, with her robust aluminium construction, ship systems and blue water specification standing her in good stead. On her return to the UK, school and a desk beckoned for her owners and hence she was laid up under cover at Berthon.

In 2011, it was decided to fully update TRUANT so that she could embark on another adventure. The refit was extensive – new paint, refurbishment of the rig, new furnishings, full overhaul or replacement of all systems, new sails, new electronics, new AV and new communications. Relatively little of the original yacht remains except for her exceptional build, good looks and wonderful craftsmanship above and below decks.

After a season or so in the Caribs she sailed to the Mediterranean where she found her current owners. They were looking for a very high quality sailing yacht of metal on which they could sail the globe. TRUANT fitted the bill and so in late 2018 she became theirs.

In their ownership she has cruised the Mediterranean and she is currently laid up for the winter in Greece where she may be visited by appointment.

Of course they have kept up the good work, and TRUANT is as immaculate today as she ever was. You can have a look at this walk through video which shows her just before layup this winter –

Over the 2020/21 winter she had a further refit with these owners with a smart new wrap of both hull and superstructure, a fresh system underwater protection was applied – MAC Glide which means that TRUANT won’t need re-antifouling for another 7 years. She was also fully serviced and systems updated as needed, including a complete electronic upgrade with Furuno kit on NMEA2000 base delivering a double autopilot, big plotters and 21st century technology.

A few years back, I departed Port Angeles, Washington, on board a fine little Truant 33 named Chesapeake and pointed her bow north toward the wild British Columbia coastline. I was 17 years old, and by then I had perfected the art of avoiding school by pirating the family boat and leaving the country for a few weeks at a time. The fact that I was using a boat called a Truant 33 as a means to enable my truancy was no small irony, but I can thank Truant Marine for a lot more than choosing a tasteful name.

The Truant 33 was designed by the legendary William Garden as a small seaworthy sailing vessel for cruising the cold, turbulent waters of the Pacific Northwest year-round in safety and comfort. Rare on vessels this size, the Truant 33’s pilothouse offers welcome protection from the region’s famous “liquid sunshine.”

The Truant 33 was first built in 1977 on Saltspring Island in British Columbia, where Truant Marine produced 30 or so vessels before selling the molds to Saturna Yachts in 1981. Saturna then built the almost-identical Saturna 33 throughout the ’80s, and eventually sold the molds to Wiggers Yachts in Ontario. There are usually a few used vessels to be found on the market, especially in the Pacific Northwest, with a price tag ranging from $30,000 to $60,000.

The Truant packs many unique features into her modest 33 feet, most notably the incorporation of the pilothouse and a very roomy and usable layout down below for living aboard. For those who prefer a more traditional cabin top, the offshore version was built without a pilothouse.

There are various interpretations of the classic layout, but the most common one is with a quarter berth and nav station to starboard with the inside steering station just forward and a dinette to port, which folds down into a double berth. Moving forward, there is a step down to a small enclosed head and hanging locker to starboard and a galley to port that rivals that of many 40-foot vessels. In the bow is either a large V-berth with stowage under or two staggered crew bunks with one raised to make for even more stowage space below. There is standing headroom throughout the cabin, and space to sleep up to five people.

Abovedecks, the Truant 33 has a very secure cockpit, which is given further protection by the pilothouse. The cockpit is small — a nice feature in heavy seas, but it makes for a bit of a squeeze when accommodating guests — though the roomy cabin makes up for that space.

She has a very prominent bow and canoe stern, which, along with her pilothouse, make her stand out in every harbor she visits.

She also sails surprisingly well for such a heavy boat of this size, and in rough weather gives a feeling of security and seaworthiness. The 30-inch-wide side decks and high bulwarks make it easy and safe to move around deck.

Most Truant 33s were set up as sloops, but I have seen where some owners added an inner forestay and running backstays to convert to a cutter rig. Underneath the waterline, she sports a long fin keel with a rudder on a skeg.

In my sailing career, I have more memories made aboard the Truant 33 than on any other design. Along the way we encountered plenty of challenges, yet she took me there and back again safely every time. And she still does.

When entering the main salon from the large cockpit, you immediately recognize the high level of quality. There is fine mahogany woodwork with high gloss finish throughout the boat and the attention to detail is striking! The volume of space is equal to that of a much larger boat. The main salons large windows allow great views and an abundance of natural light. Along the port side of the salon there is a full bank of custom cabinetry with drawers, a fold out table, shelving for china and glassware and entertainment systems. To starboard there is a settee with a cockpit table aft. The lower helm is forward, starboard side with a bench seat for two.

The wrap around windshield forward of the helm area also serves as the skylight for the galley, which is just a few steps down on the port side. The galley is the centerpiece of the boat and would rival that of any mega yacht! Features include marble counter-tops, high end appliances and an island workstation with matching marble counter. There is also a washer and dryer built-in and smartly hidden away behind the cabinetry.

Opposite the galley, starboard side, is a guest stateroom with twin berths, fore and aft, en-suite head, flat screen TV, storage and hanging lockers. Forward along the starboard side there is a second guest "bunk room" which can sleep up two four. The twin berths are arranged in an L-shaped fashion with Pullman berths above. Each berth has it's own flat-screen TV with privacy headsets. There is an en-suite head with stall shower.

The spacious master stateroom is forward and has a queen size island berth, a large vanity table with mirrored cabinetry, flat screen TV, en-suite head with large stall shower and over-sized hanging lockers and drawer storage. Each head aboard "TRUANT" features custom granite counter-tops with an under-mount sink, a separate stall shower with custom Italian tile work and mirrored cabinetry.

A crew cabin with double berth and private head is located aft of the walk in engine room.

• The main salon is accessed from the cockpit through the sliding double teak doors. Immediately to starboard is a built-in sofa and end tables with cabinet storage forward and aft. In front of the sofa is a free standing, beautifully varnished custom oval table with fold out leaves. To port aft is an entertainment center with storage. Truant is equipped with a stunning galley that rivals those of much larger yachts. A top US design firm partnered with Vicem to customize this exceptional space that will satisfy the needs of even the most discerning gourmet chef. The galley is accessed down four steps from the salon and boasts a large marble top kitchen island with sink. In the island is cabinet and drawer storage and a two drawer dishwasher. Forward is the full-sized refrigerator/freezer. Outboard is another marble topped counter with cabinet storage and an electric oven below. Atop the counters are the cooktops and appliances. On the aft bulkhead is the main electrical distribution panel. Below are a convection microwave and warming drawer. Clothes washer and dryer are concealed behind louvered doors. Ample light is provided from the windshield, an overhead smoked plexiglass Bomar hatch, two stainless steel opening portlights, and overhead and undercabinet recessed lighting.

HULL & DECK

Vicem Yachts, the noted Turkish builder of fine handcrafted classic style motor yachts are well known for their high level of quality, joinery and elegance. They utilize only the finest materials and state of the art composite construction techniques. To set the groundwork for a finely constructed boat, each Vicem hull is hand laid and cold molded. The exterior of the hull is covered with a layer of E-glass woven cloth with epoxy and finished with Awlgrip paint. The cockpit sole and decks are covered with Teak decking. 

• This construction method, preferred by some of the world's leading builders, has been perfected over the last thirty years through the research of West System epoxy.
