Discover Liverpool city centre’s hidden gem by the water

Relax and enjoy a drink and delicious home-cooked food with the best views in Liverpool at The Yacht Club Bar and Restaurant

Fantastic views of Liverpool Marina from The Yacht Club Bar and Restaurant

The Yacht Club first opened its doors in 1988 as a members only club but opened to the general public in 1998. The now family-run business has recently been rebranded as The Yacht Club Bar and Restaurant and operations director Chloe Baker has overseen an entirely new management team along with new kitchen and menu.

The Yacht Club Bar and Restaurant is now known as a family friendly relaxed bar and restaurant with exquisite views of Liverpool marina, arguably the best views Liverpool has to offer. The bar and restaurant serves wholesome, fresh home-cooked food from just £4.95 along with weekly seafood specials, 2-4-1 cocktails and a selection of beer and real ales.

Kids eat free at The Yacht Club on Monday to Saturday with every adult meal, and colouring packs and crayons are available on-site, making those after-school meal times hassle free.

Don’t forget every week there is Sunday Funday and not just for the kids! Mums and Dads can relax after a Sunday carvery in the restaurant with a drink and live sports on the big HD screens in the bar, whilst kids can run free in the soft play area.

As well as being family friendly, The Yacht Club adore dogs! It is a dog-friendly environment with water bowls and dog snacks available at the bar. There is even the family’s white-eared spaniel Rory guarding the front of house with his bed marked ‘The Dog House’ under the specials board.

Soaking up the sun with a drink and views of the marina

Along with the cosy nautical-themed bar and restaurant, The Yacht Club also has a function suite, The Spinnaker Suite, which holds up to 120 people seated, and over 200 standing for weddings, corporate functions and conferences.

The Spinnaker Suite houses a private bar, projector, audio system, free parking, free Wi-Fi and private terrace overlooking the yachts and powerboats of the marina, making it a perfect setting for a variety of events.

The Yacht Club is situated within the grounds of Liverpool Marina on Coburg Wharf, just a handy 10-minute walk along the pier from the famous Albert Docks, and an even handier five-minute walk from the ever-bustling Cains Brewery.

It is well worth seeking out with many locals calling it a true hidden gem within the city centre, and with over 500 outdoor seats and views of the yachts and boats of Liverpool Marina, it’s not hard to see why.

Yacht Fest takes place on May Day bank holiday

A date for your diary, and certainly something you won’t want to miss out on, is Yacht Fest on May Day bank holiday on the 5th. Expect live DJ’s, bands, kids entertainment, BBQ, a tiki bar station and a whole host of fun.

Liverpool city centre is no doubt an exciting hub for new and adventurous bars and restaurants which makes competing in this industry even more competitive. However, The Yacht Club Bar & Restaurant, with their unique location, family-friendly relaxed vibe and fresh home-cooked food have a distinct quality untouched by the others.

“First time here ” Review of The Yacht Club Sports Bar & Grill

liverpool yacht club photos

Popped in with friends whilst stopping within walking distance at the Travelodge. In my opinion it was similar to a social club. Everyone was friendly and the staff were all helpful . The toilets were spotless !! The main attraction for us was the Pool table. They have a full bar serving a wide variety of beers..

We had our school reunion at the Yacht Club for the second year running. We were book at the beach bar, but due to rain they kindly allowed us to use the function room and then moved into the bar are as and when it got quieter. The food was amazing, Louie the chef has an amazing talent for cooking delicious food, he always goes the extra mile. Maria the server looked after us again going the extra mile. There were a number of new faces whos names I didn’t catch behind the bar and they looked after us all afternoon and night, always polite and friendly. Amy checked everything was ok several times. I can not fault the service or the catering. The staff are great people and they made our reunion really special.

Amazing location and views. Great drinks and food, friendly service. Particularly enjoyed the cooked breakfast and the good Guinness. Looking forward to another visit.

I recently dined at the Yacht Club on Wednesday with my boyfriend and I must express my disappointment with the level of rudeness exhibited by the staff. Throughout the evening, I noticed that they served us without a smile and responded to my requests with apparent annoyance. After we made our order, one of the staff members, a blond guy, turned to his colleague and they laughed in a very disrespectful manner while glancing at me and my boyfriend. I'm not sure if the place is LGBT+ unfriendly or just generally rude, but this behaviour is not acceptable. Furthermore, we encountered several issues during my meal. I had to request attention multiple times as we was served fish fingers without any cutlery or sauce, not to mention that we weren't served the chips we ordered and paid for. Despite my repeated pleas, the staff completely ignored us. Eventually, when the cutlery and the chip were brought, they failed to provide any sauce despite my explicit requests for it. While I found the food to be decent (albeit overpriced), the abysmal level of service we experienced ensures that we will never consider returning to this establishment.

I hope this letter finds you well. On behalf of the Yacht Club team, I would like to express our deepest apologies for the disappointing experience you and your boyfriend had during your recent visit to our establishment. We take your feedback seriously and understand the importance of addressing the issues you encountered promptly and effectively. We genuinely appreciate your feedback regarding the quality of the food itself, as it is encouraging to hear that you found it to be decent. However, we understand that it is the combination of excellent cuisine and impeccable service that creates a truly memorable dining experience. We apologize for falling short in delivering the level of service you rightfully expected from us. Thank you for bringing these issues to our attention. We genuinely hope to have the opportunity to regain your trust and provide you with a dining experience that exceeds your expectations. Yours sincerely

Paid £30 for 3 tickets and turned out people just going in for free! It is an absolute dump and expensive. Filthy and smelly. Couldn’t wait to leave! Rip off!!!!!

The Yacht Club Sports Bar & Grill

Ratings and reviews, food and ambience, location and contact.

We stopped with out Campervan for 2 days at the yacht club, we were warmly welcomed by Chris and he gave us a tour of the facilities, we parked up and enjoyed the bar and food at the bar , I agree the “dirty fries”... need the chef to make an effort to cook some bacon and great some cheese, not a difficult task - the fish ginger sandwhich was great, coffee was nice and the service was good. Breakfast buns were good , this is a great location for a cmapervan if visiting Liverpool, services were really good and clean , also £5 a night off your bar bill. Don’t expect a view of the Mersey , but don’t avoid this place - it’s well worth the visit. More

Two night stay in our Motorhome. Found this by luck more then judgement. Great place for over night stop with our Motorhome right on the mersey great access to Liverpool Center on the docks. Has water and waste disposal for gray and Eĺain water but... no electricity hook up but that’s fine if you have off grid set up. £20 a night with full used of showers and toilets and bar (beer and more beer🤪) will use this again one piece of advice ring ahead or use their web page also send you confirmation email to the parking website to stop any fines. Top spot for visiting Liverpool I know I should have kept this a secret as now you all know 😉 A1++ More

We have given this place so much slack because we want it to be successful. After several poor service experiences we stopped going in however we made the old mistake of giving it one more try. We arrived at at7.15pm and were told last food... orders would be 7.30pm. We noted a large party seated for a 40th birthday and asked if our food would be delayed by them, we were told 'yes, your food will be about one hour'. We could live with that so ordered a starter and a main, we had to try several times as so much of the menu was unavailable. At 8.50pm our starters arrived, I got a bowl half full of vegetable soup and a couple of small, very cold, slices of bread. My partner got a bowl of garlic mushrooms that appeared to be doing the backstroke through a mush of cheese and grease. One hour later I enquired about our mains, I was told they were just coming, 10 minutes after that I tried to cancel because there was still no sign but I was told they were being plated and would be out in 2 minutes. A further 10 minutes passed and we asked for a refund. As the refund was being processed our food arrived. We declined it and continued with getting our refund. We were told they would only refund the main because we'd eaten the starters, fair enough, but poor customer service. To complete the shambles of an evening we noted instead of refunding our money back to our card they had actually debited the cost of the meal again. We pointed it out and they brought us a cash refund for our 'double charged' meals. I wish I could say this experience was a one off for us, unfortunately it's not. The staff are nice and friendly but that can no longer make up for the appalling service failures. More

Hi, We are terribly sorry to hear about your experience with us, On that night, a few of the members of the birthday party were running late which meant that we were delayed a little further in the kitchen which could possibly explain the lengthy... More

Before reviewing I had tried to send the below email to numerous email address and message on social media with no replies. Hi, I am writing regards to our Christmas Dinner that ended up ruining this year's Xmas. When initially booked, I asked the lady... what is the earliest time slot, she said it is 2pm and I told her as my daughters go home to their mums at 3pm Xmas, she informed me it is set up like a carvery that opens at 2pm we will be done. When we arrive, I asked the barman is this still the case, he said yes and they will actually be calling us in at 1:30pm. He tells me how bad last year was managed and that it won't be the same this year as they are more organised. It wasn't promising to hear when I arrived that the last Xmas Dinner wasn't well organised. When we go in, the place looks completely unorganised so we ask a lady working what time and she tells us food will be starting 2:15pm. 2:15pm comes and nothing seems to be happening so we ask a different lady who tells us 2:30pm. 3pm comes and no food has come, meaning one of my children had to go home with getting no food that we had paid for. My second daughter has been told I can have her til 4pm. I only get to eat once every 2 years with my daughter, meaning I will have a 4 year wait between eating Xmas Dinner with my eldest. It's now getting close to 4pm and nothing seems to be happening on our table, all this while staff behind the food are drinking pints of lager with not much care about the massive delay. After we complain, a man comes over and tells us he will send us free drinks over, he also promises my niece a massive present when she leaves, no drinks came and no present for a child who was asking where it was. When food finally did come, the portion sizes where strange to say the least, my 3 year old had double the food I had, and the food was very cold by then. 3 plates came over meaning we all ate at separate times. Same with desert, anyone who ordered cheesecake got that at separate times too as we was told the cheesecake hadn't been cut. While this was happening we heard that the chef was off due to covid but other staff who had seen him where working and that's why the food was poor and behind, which also wasn't reassuring. More

Absolutely disgraceful from start to finish, waited about 3 hours for our dinner and when it came out was like cold mush slapped on a plate, I wouldn’t of even fed my dog this and yet they charged £50 per person!!! We left with our... plates full, no chance of waiting around for desert. Poor staff couldn’t keep up with the amount of people there, not their fault, however a refund should of been given out. As it ruined our Christmas Day, Since then chased it up & lost count of times I’ve been told ‘someone will be in touch’ they are alright taking the money though aren’t they? Absolutely vile needs shutting down More

Waitresses were helpful and friendly. We sat down shortly after 8 and didn’t get our food until around 9pm, despite being only 2 people. The seat was good- outdoors with the water and boats in view, which is fortunate as the live music indoors was... very loud. We ordered a halloumi salad, aspen fries (truffle and Parmesan) and a Cajun chicken burger. The burger was good and my husband enjoyed it. The salad was doused in Thai sweet chili dressing and the halloumi was in tiny cubes and deep fried- which was a real shame as I couldn’t taste it over the dressing. On a warm summer evening I banked on a salad being a good option. The Aspen fries really let me down as they tasted mildly of truffle but there was no visible Parmesan. I had to add salt and vinegar to give them flavour. The venue was nice, despite wonky table, and there were lots of families enjoying the warm weather, but due to the disappointing food (bill was around £50 including a couple of beers) we will not be back. I find it unbelievable that such a nice venue could serve such appalling food. The venue is nice, location is nice, they have good front of house staff. They should be onto a winner. It could be as good as anywhere with a decent chef... turning out decent food. But the food was absolutely dreadful. We only had a couple of bits. But £7 for salt and pepper chips that were cheap fries with a few onions! No salt and pepper seasoning. Not a pepper in sight. No flavour at all. Lazy. Then loaded fries with bacon, again not a scrap of bacon and a vile liquid cheese. Don't know what they were meant to be loaded with. There are 1000 places knocking stuff like this out properly at half the price. And finally the most overcooked burger that I've ever had put in front of me. It was like a brick. This is the most basic and simple food to make and Im absolutely astonished that anybody working in a kitchen could make such a bad job of a simple dish. This place doesn't need gourmet fancy food, but serving simple dishes isn't difficult to get right. But unfortunately, based on what we were served last night, whoever is preparing it doesn't care one bit about what they're serving up. I'd expect better food in the scruffiest pub in Rhyl More

Swerve this place, sub standard food and service, dirty menus, staff didn’t have a clue, sat for 20 mins then had to go and ask a server to order. Chips were bought in and undercooked, steak was not the weight specified, overcooked and rubbery, sauce... was out of a packet, garnish not as advertised. Never going back. More

Hi, We are sorry to hear your experience with us was a negative one. We, aswell as so many other resturants and bars, are suffering greatly with staff shortages and really are trying our best. We have passed on your feedback to the team and... More

We have visited here many times before but today will be our last. 4 out of 5 fish dishes on the menu were unavailable today! The hot chicken wings were simply chicken wings coated in pepper. My main arrived at the same time as the... starters, we sent it back, which in hindsight was a mistake as they probably just put it in an oven to keep warm. The rib eye medium rare steak wasn’t!! See pictures! The chips were reheated and the pepper corn sauce, just see photo, no words!! My wife had half a chicken which was so dry it was inedible. A horrendous experience and it set us back over £50, avoid eating here, simply appalling More

Liverpool - “The Yacht Club” was out of order. When myself and 2 other deaf friends went there today. We were about to order the breakfast then the staff told us that breakfast had finished at 12, which I totally understand because it was 12:10pm.... The staff told us that the lunch menu was starting. We were looking at the menu when the boss came and told her that no food for 15 minutes. We then saw the boss carrying breakfasts to other customers after 12:15. I double checked again with different staff at the bar about what had happened with the food. She told me the same thing about waiting ‘15 minutes’, so I sat down again. 35 minutes later still no-one came back to see if we were ready to order. I checked again and the staff told me food was not available plus no drinks either, (effectively refusing to serve us), but told to use the next room, where a wedding party was in progress (wedding party room), to order drinks. Telling me to effectively gatecrash a wedding party. I just went back to my friends and explained what happened. I saw other people at the same bar I just used ordering drinks at this bar. The bar I was just told I could not be served at. Also, just five minutes later that we saw staff carrying food to customers. And other staff carrying sandwiches & chips from the lunchtime menu to the customers. We only ordered ONE drink. We wanted to order food but was not allowed and also not allowed to order more drinks. We had been in there for 1 hour and treated very very badly. We decided leave and went to a different location where I can say we were treated with respect in a friendly environment. I can inform the readers of this review that we were polite and courteous and did not warrant the way we were treated. We did not create any fuss as we just wanted to have a nice meal in a nice environment. We did have a nice meal with drinks in a friendly environment but this was NOT in the Yacht Club There was no respect given to us and no-one had any deaf awareness. We will never go there again ever. We were treated very badly by all staff we approached for assistance. More

My wife and I took my sister in law and her sister there for our Christmas dinner get together. On entering the place the first thing to notice was how cold it was. The waiter pointed to a fire in the corner of the room... as the source of heat and said the heating was down. When we were ordering, the first choice of fish was not available. So two of the girls ended up ordering scampi and chips. I ordered what I thought was a type of steak pie. It was not to be! It turned out to be a couple of slices of streaky roast beef that was drowning in thin gravy and covered in a pastry. It was absolutely the worst meat/steak pie I have ever tasted. Disgusting. The accompanying vegetables were not much better. I was caught in the awkward position of not wanting to make a fuss and call the waiter over so I left it. Two of the other meals were mostly left. What was eaten was solely because they were hungry after a long day at a hospital. I went to pay at the bar and while the prices had been on the menu, it hit me when I saw the bill and put it in context with what we had been served. It was terrible value. I mentioned my disappointment to the waiter who called a “manager”? over. His response was a smile and a “Sorry about that”. I felt insulted when he said he would take 10% off the bill. I refused and walked back to the table to leave. The waiter then came over with four glasses and a bottle of wine. I told him: “Thanks, but no thanks.” He insisted and insisted and insisted. Not wanting to make an issue, my wife intervened, looked me and said accept it and leave it at that. The waiter (a friendly guy), left it on the table and I gave it to my sister in law to take home. As for me, a terrible meal on a Christmas dinner outing out cannot be made better with a bottle of wine. My advice to anyone thinking of eating at the Yacht Club is: Go somewhere else. The restaurant is located in a fairly large community of apartments and condominiums. Over the years having had previous owners, the word in the community had been of an eatery that used be good but had gone down. Sad to say, the decline continues. More

We booked breakfast with Santa and what a lovely morning we had! A very special festive morning for all the family. The food was excellent, kids finished every bit and we especially enjoyed the Irish sausages specially sourced by the owner 👌🏻, very tasty!! All... the waiting staff were so attentive, couldn’t fault any part the service…Amy is amazing who always goes above and beyond. The Santa’s grotto was professionally set out and executed, which the kids absolutely loved it! They really thought about the entire experience for all the family, parents, grandparents as well as the kids! We would definitely recommend and plan to return next year 🤍🎅🏻 Thank you for a lovely festive morning x More

I don’t know where to start. We walked in and the place was absolutely gorgeous 😍 the wedding organisers Carla and Diane were truly artists. They done the room up to the highest standard possible. We were all very impressed. Thank you for the extras.... That didn’t go unnoticed 😉 it was just beautiful. We had lots of feedback from family and freinds saying it was the best wedding they have ever been to. We all loved it. Everyone throughly enjoyed the whole night dancing and making memories. The bar staff were fantastic !! thanks to them we were all very drunk fast 😂 👍 We had hot buffet food curry, scouse, salad sandwiches, cakes the lot. It was well presented and tasted amazing. Thank you to all your team for a fantastic night. I want to do it all over again. Keep up the great work. All the best to you all Carol and Mike xxx More

Had heard that it was lovely at The Yacht Club and so was eager to visit and see for ourselves. We weren’t disappointed. Really lovely surroundings with the marina and the Mersey close by. The Yacht club is delightful inside, nautically themed and their function... room looks fantastic. Really lovely outdoor seating too. We sat inside as it was a bit chilly today and ordered two ‘dirty burgers’ with chunky chips and salad. The lady who served us was very nice and said we’d made a good choice. She was right. The burgers were double patties, with egg and bacon on them. Chunky chips were spot on and the salad was nicely dressed and flavourful. Parking charges are refunded for restaurant patrons, so win win. Will be back here as we really enjoyed the food, ambience and the service. A little gem in Liverpool! More

Photos: Flooding in the Valley

(WKBN) – Heavy rain throughout the week has created flooding in several areas.

See the photos below:

In Wellsville, crews erected flood walls where Wells Avenue meets Lisbon Street. The wall was built in the 1930s after devastating floods there.

Areas across Columbiana County, particularly East Liverpool, were seeing heavy flooding. The Ohio River was running high and was expected to crest more than 15 feet by Thursday afternoon.

In Lisbon, Willow Grove Park is closed. Mayor Pete Wilson posted on FaceBook that it’s a soggy mess but says Little Beaver Creek has not overflowed its banks yet. He said the park will stay closed until further notice.

Route 39 closed earlier Wednesday at Putnam Street forcing drivers to use Calcutta-Smith Ferry Road due to  heavy rain and a landslide in the area overnight. It has since reopened after crews stabilized the area.

Parts of Trumbull County remained under a flood warning Wednesday evening after  high water forced several roads to close . The playground at Perkins Park in Warren was practically underwater.

On Pine Avenue in Warren Township, a vehicle is abandoned after driving into the flood waters and getting stuck. This is a road that floods frequently, and drivers need to find another way or risk the same fate.

You can see the latest flood warning details and updates here.

Submit your flooding photos to WKBN via Report It.

I've never been to Saint Pete or this marina before the other day and we visited we had a great time they had a lot of good photo ops the ocean was beautiful I have a lot of beautiful rocks and trees and birds floating around in all kinds of just great experiences here at this marina. I enjoyed watching the boats come in and out and taking pictures with my family

This star review is solely on the mooring field which has effectively been closed since 2018 (with a short opening in-between). The mooring field was deeded to the city by the state so the public could enjoy a clean, uncluttered and organized mooring bay. However, the city and marina has failed its citizens by keeping it shut, years after the new pier was opened. The St Petersburg Municipal Marina Mooring Field is badly managed and should be returned to the state of Florida and reopened to the public.

When Doug is working you're in good hands. We stayed over the weekend in a transient slip. Doug called us on the phone while we were still approaching the city. He verified the arrival and helped us find the slip. He was super helpful in getting the boat docked and checking us in to the marina. There are clean restrooms and shower facilities. The marina itself is basic. Aside from that there's not much else available at the marina. But, hey. You can't beat the location !

Photo of Dianna B.

If you come here, make sure that you don't park in the wrong area. Much of this is NOT public parking, Much of it is for Deeman's landing and those who live here. Otherwise, there is a circle of parking at the end, about 20 spaces in total, that are geared towards the public. You can park here, but watch out for those who are space hogs or don't understand how to park in a semi circle. The monument here, for St. Petersburg's fallen Police Officers is quite lovely, if sobering, The view of the (Now defunct) Pier is quite incredible, and of course there is Albert Whitted Airfield, so you can see planes taking off and landing every so often. It's a good place to sit and watch the wild life or just take a load off and listen to the lapping of the waves on the break water.

It's a shame this marina isn't nicer for visitors. They don't take reservations, and when you get there the transient dock is a fixed concrete dock fairly exposed. We tried docking there on a windy day and it was almost impossible, and we got no assistance from the Dockmaster. And when we did dock, the boat was rocking so much we decided to leave. I say it's a shame because the marina's location is prime if you want to enjoy St. Pete. It's walking distance from the Pier and all the yummy downtown restaurants. Unfortunately I found it very uninviting as a boater. I'd rather stay in the much more protected Harborage Marina and ride my bike 2 miles to the action. I won't be coming back.

Just bought a 23ft sailboat here in the Marina and couldn't be happier. We had a little sailboat that was in our driveway and it spent more time there than in the water so decided to get a boat that's in the water all the time. Cannot say enough good things about this marina and have stayed in many, Halifax, NS, CANADA, Harbour Island, San Diego, CA, Oceanside, CA, Dana Point, CA, and now Florida. This is so close to downtown St. Pete's and we love the restaurants and walkways and biking is great too. Cannot wait to see the new pier although I did rather like the old one. We are sailors and love the water. The only one thing I don't like about the marina is the lack of accessibility to the boat. It is difficult to get on an off without a dock or walkway beside the boat but we will manage, I suppose. Can't beat the location and the marina staff are the best.

Photo of Ken K.

Moved my boat here this past month. Should have done it much earlier. The staff is friendly and accommodating, and everyone has been helpful. The pump out boat will come on any schedule you choose, and its free. You can walk anywhere downtown within about 10 minutes. You can see the Grand Prix free from your slip, if your boat is tall enough. Can't wait for Spring Training. walk to Al Lang field... Everyone is friendly on North Dock!

People are nice, location is great, but amenities are low. No ice available for purchase. Seems like that would be an easy and welcome addition.

We have been here over a year and really like it. We have a great view from our boat and is a prime location. Lots to do in this area.

St. Petersburg restarts quest for municipal marina developer, operator

  • Colleen Wright Times staff

City officials are restarting a plan to find a private company to redevelop the municipal marina located on the downtown St. Petersburg waterfront in exchange for letting it take over operations.

They announced the new 17-page request for proposals Friday morning. Bids are due July 14. A pre-proposal meeting will be held May 15.

This time, they’re specifically seeking firms that have five years of experience with saltwater marinas — a sticking point with a prior group that submitted a bid under former Mayor Rick Kriseman’s administration to do the same thing. Proposers could also apply to redevelop and operate Fresco’s Waterfront Bistro next to the marina.

A 2014 report recommended replacing 19 finger piers and 10 main walkway deck spans, as well as repairing concrete cracks, replacing degraded timber, making miscellaneous electrical repairs and rehabbing or replacing steel sheet piles. The prior group estimated it would cost $30 million for repairs.

The city envisions handing over operations to a private company through a lease to avoid spending tens of millions in taxpayer dollars. The company would collect rents for boat slips, giving a cut to the city.

“No matter how the agreement is constructed, we know that we need help in getting this done,” said St. Petersburg City Council member Gina Driscoll, whose district includes the marina. “I look forward to identifying a good partner to renovate the marina and preserve that asset on our waterfront.”

But the move to place a public asset on the prized waterfront under private control has given pause to some City Council members and the marina’s boaters and residents.

In a statement, City Development Administrator James Corbett called the marina “an anchor point of the Waterfront District.”

“This is just the next step in the revitalization of the marina and we look forward to finding a partner that sees the potential of this landmark in our community,” he said.

Officials are seeking a five-year lease agreement. Anything longer triggers a citywide referendum. The winning proposer could then request a public vote to allow a long-term lease of the property after finishing the marina’s redevelopment, or seek a new lease every five years subject to the City Council’s and mayor’s approval.

For groups seeking to also redevelop and manage Fresco’s, the city seeks a separate 10-year lease for the restaurant. The current lease on the restaurant expires next April.

“The physical condition of the restaurant is such that a complete replacement is envisioned (including seawalls, restaurant building and exterior seating areas),” the bid solicitation reads. “The ability to reimagine this location is desired.”

According to the request for proposals, the city wants the redevelopment to be completely funded by private-sector investment and/or marina user fees. The city does not plan on using taxpayer dollars for the redevelopment project with one exception: required seawall restoration for the central and south yacht basins.

“It is preferred that the selected Proposer be responsible for the actual seawall restoration work in concert with the redevelopment of the marina,” the bid reads.

Proposers are asked to specify how the redevelopment will be paid for and what their equity investment would be, in addition to any public funding required for the project. The city also seeks a 20-year cash flow analysis of the marina’s operations, including revenue to be earned by the city and planned slip rates and increases over the lease term.

Mayor Ken Welch said in January that the city would issue a new request for proposals to redevelop and manage the marina because “it seems like that’s what the council is supporting.” A supermajority of City Council members — six out of eight votes — is needed to approve a lease on the waterfront, under restrictions that are part of the city’s charter.

There are 660 boat slips in the central and south yacht basins between the St. Pete Pier and Demens Landing Park. The slips that belong to the St. Petersburg Yacht Club and the Vinoy Marina are not a part of the city’s bid request. The marina serves year-round local residents and seasonal boaters, as well as commercial businesses, and has capacity for about 100 live-aboard residents.

The request for proposals asks for all existing marina staff to be given the opportunity to interview with the selected developer and operator to continue their employment. The selected firm must also maintain the existing mix of vessel sizes, including for small sailboats, business vessels and live-aboards. The city retains final approval rights over marina design and specifications.

“Marina slip rates will be established with an eye toward affordability for all users while staying market competitive,” the bid request said.

The request also asks proposers for renderings of the redevelopment along with a project schedule.
