IJE Yacht – Sophisticated $200M Superyacht
IJE yacht was built by the well-known Italian ship and boat building company Benetti and delivered in 2019.
With her 108 metres (354 ft) length, she currently ranks 34th on the list of largest yachts in the world. She is also the longest yacht ever built by Benetti.
IJE yacht interior
Benetti not only built the IJE yacht, but they also worked on designing the yacht interior. The layout is reminiscent of a cozy beach house with luxurious elements that take the design to the next level.
There is a private owner’s deck onboard IJE with access to a separate side deck.
Twenty guests can stay on board IJE yacht in ten luxurious and spacious suites. The yacht has a dedicated movie theatre, nightclub, and an elevator between the four decks.
The gym is not only equipped with the latest equipment, but it is also a real eye-catcher and is located on the lower deck of the IJE yacht.
One side wall folds down completely to double the size of the gym, and a ladder into the water invites you to cool off after your workout.
A well-trained crew of up to 28 people takes care of everything in and around the vessel.
Specifications
Two MTU twin engines power IJE with 2,880 kW each. She achieves top speeds of 21 knots and can reach distances of over 6,500 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 16 knots.
The 108-meter yacht is also equipped with an additional system from Schottel, which allows low-noise and low-vibration auxiliary propulsion that guarantees better maneuverability.
IJE has a fuel tank of up to 365,000 liters and a freshwater tank of 85,000 liters, which is an advantage for longer distances.
The exterior of IJE was designed by world-renowned ship designer RWD, whose goal is to create each yacht with “exceptional beauty and elegance.”
There is space for two tenders up to 12 meters long that can be launched by crane on the foredeck.
A fireplace was installed as a focal point on the bridge deck, and on the main deck, a pool surrounded by spacious open-air dining with an additional lounge and bar welcomes guests. A side garage opens up and becomes a berth for four jet skis.
The IJE yacht also carries water toys such as seabobs, water skis, kayaks, and snorkeling equipment. The designated observation deck offers stunning views of the surrounding ocean and landscape.
IJE was transferred from Benetti to the owner for a price of approximately US $200 million in 2019. The superyacht is currently listed for sale at a price of US $175 million.

IJE - a broker's view.
Published 21 September 2021
Senior Partner and Senior Sales Broker Peter Brown talks to Burgess News about IJE, one of nine new additions to our sales fleet .
Watch the ije video below and take the virtual tour at the bottom..
Describe IJE
The owner has a dream build team, one that has built several yachts. Each is a remarkable achievement and IJE, it's safe to say, tops them all. She is a tour de force and the longest Benetti ever built.
The briefest glance will tell you that the beautifully balanced exterior lines bear the distinctive signature of sought-after star studio RWD. The owner's team worked very closely with them to perfect the look of decks seeming to float one above the other.
Inside she has wonderfully informal beach-house style, airy, welcoming and restful, which is perfect for a family yacht. Another stamp of excellence is expert naval architecture by PierLuigi Ausonio.
Most appealing features?
In the main saloon the full-height glass walls can slide back to open the space up. The difference that makes is hard to explain but it completely changes the environment.
Sound becomes softer and you can hear the sea, the air and light change to make it a shaded outside space. The entire experience is so much more restful. It's a break-through piece of design.
The main deck aft has a good-sized pool, open-air dining, a bar, several different lounge areas including a TV lounge - everything families need to spend the day together.
There's a fully equipped lower deck gym with one of the largest sea terraces I've seen on a yacht of this size, and opposite is the tender and toy garage, which is packed with the latest kit.
She has two 12m (40ft) tenders on the foredeck to take extended families ashore together. That longer length means they're faster, more comfortable, carry more people and equipment and have better range.
There are eleven cabins for 22 guests, including a private owner's deck with walkaround sidedecks and a bedroom suite with direct access to the foredeck helipad.
An elevator connects lower to bridge decks and there is corridor access from the lower deck lobby to the beach club so that all generations of the family can enjoy step-free time together.
There's a dedicated cinema, a very private nightclub complete with fully equipped bar, lighting and sound systems and DJ station, and a bridge deck games room with access to the aft deck's firepit lounge.
The main deck has a beauty treatment room and hair salon and a massage room equipped to double as a hospital. She has everything any family could want or need for extended cruising.
Need to know?
Right from the start, she was intended to be a world-cruising family yacht, one that could take the owner and their family cruising in any part of the world, places where the weather is not always reliable. To keep everyone on board comfortable, underway or at anchor, she has two sets of Naiad stabilisers.
In more and more locations anchoring is not allowed to protect reefs and seabeds so she has been fitted with a Rolls-Royce dynamic positioning system to hold position without having to anchor.
Operating in the Mediterranean, yachts are generally well catered for and there are plenty of diversions ashore. When you get off the beaten track, which IJE was designed and built to be able to do, the infrastructure can become indifferent, distances greater, comfort and entertainment on board more important.
IJE delivers the same seven-star experience anywhere in the world. She has always been professionally maintained and was designed to facilitate regular maintenance - another benefit of built-in experience. She is a remarkable achievement and her next owner will be the first to appreciate that.

By Katia Damborsky 28 July 2019
Formerly known as Project FB 275, the 108m/354ft motor yacht IJE has been delivered.
The longest yacht ever built by Benetti, IJE departed the yard’s Livorno facilities on Friday after the successful completion of rigorous sea trials.
She is now number 39 in the World's Top 100 Yachts by length.
It comes after the yacht marked the final installment of Benetti’s so-called ‘Gigayacht Season’ in March, when she became the yard’s third yacht measuring over 100m to hit the water in a short timeframe.
Attracting plenty of attention in the yachting industry, IJE’s clean and elegant exterior have been penned by RWD, while her interiors have been headed up by Benetti’s in-house team. Naval architecture comes from Pierluigi Ausonio.
“FB275 [is a] a great success for Benetti, for Livorno, for Italy. Today we completed this delivery 40 days before the due time.” Said Paolo Vitelli, Founder and President of Azimut Benetti Group in a statement.
We have made the owner, his captain and his team extremely happy and proud of such a [..] masterpiece.”
Among her on-board highlights, she boasts an observation deck, 1.5 metre fire-pit and heated swimming pool on the main deck. More than 1,000 square metres of space has been dedicated to luxurious outdoor space.
Accommodation is provided for 22 guests in total.
We have made the owner, his captain and his team extremely happy and proud of such a [..] masterpiece. Paolo Vitelli
RWD yacht designer Adrien Chisnell has said the motor yacht 's exterior design centres around "elegance, beauty, attention to detail and absolute quality in every surface and sweeping curve".
"Many years in development, the exterior lines were created to portray a purposeful and powerful stature yet with a timeless, flowing silhouette," he said.
She has been designed for long-distance cruising, with a range of 6,500 nautical miles at 14 knots.
It is not yet known whether IJE will be available for luxury yacht charters .

Benetti's 108m Giga Yacht IJE Listed for Sale with Burgess
By Freya Cottrell
With a week to go until the opening of the Monaco Yacht Show, Burgess has announced its appointment as Central Agent for the sale of the spectacular 108m giga yacht IJE. IJE is the largest yacht confirmed for the 2021 Monaco Yacht Show.
Built as the ultimate world-cruising family yacht, IJE was launched in 2019 as a custom superyacht built by Bennetti at its Livorno shipyard in the north-west of Italy. With a range of 6,500 nautical miles at cruising speed, this 108m giga yacht has true world cruising credentials with the added comfort and luxury of being designed to accommodate family.
Her timeless sculptural exterior was devised by the talented and sought after designers of RWD, the boundary pushing British yacht design studio. Her interior, designed by Benett and decorated by RWD, incorporates a relaxed beach-house style to add to the family ambience of the giga yacht.
At 108m, IJE is the longest yacht ever to be delivered from the Italian shipbuilders and thus it is unsurprising that Benetti has dedicated her the flagship of its enviable custom built fleet.
IJE was delivered in 2019 to a very experienced yacht owner, and this is the first time she has been on the market since her delivery. Her key features include: accommodation for 22 guests across eleven cabins and a private owner’s deck. Full height sliding glass walls in both the main deck and bridge deck saloons so as to connect guests to their ocean surroundings and magnify the beach-house interior theme. Plus a generous onboard swimming pool, dedicated gym, cinema and nightclub.
IJE will be in attendance at the Monaco Yacht Show 2021. Serious clients in the market for a yacht of this calibre can contact Burgess to pre-book a viewing.
"Burgess is delighted to announce its appointment as Central Agent for the sale of the magnificent 108m IJE [...] As the longest yacht ever delivered by Benetti she is the flagship of their enviable custom built fleet" Burgess

This is the Dynasty, the first megayacht to overwinter at Malaga's marina for luxury craft
The vessel is valued at an eye-watering 200 million dollars and it will be docked in the city until spring 2024, while it undergoes maintenance.

It's name is I Dynasty and it is a 101-metre superyacht that has just anchored at the Port of Malaga and will remain there for the whole winter.
It's the first luxury vessel scheduled to spend the cooler months in the Marqués de Guadiaro basin, the reformed area in the city port for luxury craft and megayachts. The marina was designed and built several years ago to receive large vessels and provide them with the necessary services during the low season, such as high-power electrical connections.
The I Dynasty, with a crew of 30, is scheduled to remain in Malaga throughout the autumn and winter, until the spring of 2024, according to port sources.
Business opportunities
The megayacht will undergo maintenance throughout the winter, for which the concessionaire of the marina, IGY Málaga Marina, is looking for various suppliers in the province which specialise in various technical tasks.
Maintenance required may include sanding, hull painting, welding, electrical, mechanics, carpentry and plumbing. IGY Málaga Marina is creating a database of interested companies, for which they ask anyone interested to contact them directly.
The I Dynasty is a modern megayacht built in 2015 on behalf of Alijan Ibragimov, a billionaire from Kazakhstan. He is the co-founder of the multinational Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation (ENRC) and is involved in diversified natural resources such as mining, processing, energy and logistics. Its owner died in February 2021, reportedly due to Covid-19.
The vessel was built at the Kusch Yachts shipyard in Germany, with interior design by Massari Design. It can accommodate 22 guests in 11 luxury cabins; and 30 crew in another 15 cabins. Among its features, it has a 30-square-metre indoor swimming pool, which also serves as a dock for dinghies and pleasure boats.
The ship is powered by a Rolls-Royce diesel-electric propulsion system, with a top speed of 17 knots, and a cruising speed of 14 knots. It has a range of 6,500 nautical miles (about 12,000 kilometres), making it particularly suitable for journeys between the Mediterranean and the Caribbean. It is valued at around 200 million dollars, with maintenance costs estimated at 15 to 20 million dollars a year.

I am a novice who is unfamiliar with the meaning of these measurements. What measurements do each of these letters represent? Thanks for your help.
IJPE I and J describe your foretriangle:- I is the vertical distance from the highest hoist point of your jib halyard to the boat's sheerline abaft the mast (basically, down to the deck level)- J is the horizontal distance from the front of your mast to the jib tack attachment point.P and E describe your mainsail:- P is the vertical distance from your highest mainsail halyard hoist point to the top of the boom- E is the horizontal distance from the back of your mast to the furthest possible clew attachment point on your boom. (Not to the end of the boom, because you need room for shackles, outhaul blocks and whatnot.)
Greg Sampson
Definitions.... I - measurment from the intersection of the forestay and top of the mast down to the deck of the boatj - measurement from the forestay attachment at the the bow to the front of the mastP - Max Luff - measurement from the top of the mast (as far as your main halyard will go up) to the top of the boom.E - Max Foot - measurement from the back of the mast to the clew at its aft-most position.Hope this helps,Greg
Tom Wootton
Why? Does anyone know why those particular letters are used? I can't think of any association between the letters and the dimensions they refer to, so I have trouble remembering which is which.
Claude L.-Auger
Look in the archives (photo forum) Under Sailboat specs. Sometimes last year I posted an old diagram that shows where all of these measurements are taken and then some. Welcome to the sailing fraternity. May you enjoy it as much as we do. Happy sailing.

Take a look at the superyacht the Jefferies CEO just bought from the Houston Rockets' billionaire owner
- Jefferies CEO Rich Handler sold $65 million of stock — some of which he used to buy a superyacht.
- He purchased Boardwalk from billionaire friend and client Tilman Fertitta.
- Here's a look at the multimillion-dollar superyacht.
Earlier this week, Jefferies CEO Rich Handler sold $65 million worth of stock in the investment bank — enough to warrant a press release — partly to buy a yacht from his friend and client, hospitality billionaire and Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta .
"My sale of shares today was a gift to myself and my family," Handler said in the release.
It's a pretty good gift. The boat in question is a 50-meter superyacht named Boardwalk.
According to the yacht's shipyard, Westport Yachts, the off-market deal was pending as of last month. The sale price isn't public.
Boardwalk, which is currently moored in Fort Lauderdale, Florida , was originally delivered in 2010. She features a spa pool and helipad on her sun deck, as well as multiple bars and 15 bathrooms, of which at least one has a television. The master cabin has a dressing room and a private study, and there are scooters on board to make getting around easier — and more fun.
She can fit 12 guests and 12 crew members, according to industry source SuperYacht Times .
"It isn't cheap, I can tell you that. I just love it," Fertitta told a local ABC affiliate in 2017, referring to Boardwalk's $40 million price tag.
Related stories
While Boardwalk is technically part of "a series" — one of a fleet of boats built by the shipyard of this size and general design — Fertitta made many custom adjustments, adding lights throughout and opening up spaces to create a less formal feel, he told Yachts International in 2011.
Handler has been a guest on the yacht before, landing on its deck via helicopter when it was moored in St. Barts , according to a video posted on Fertitta's Instagram account in 2018.
"It's a shame when you have to pick your friends up to come see you. This is @handlerrich roughin' it to the @boardwalk164," he wrote in the caption.
View this post on Instagram A post shared by Tilman J. Fertitta (@tilmanfertitta)
"It's one of those things that I've always wanted and I'll always have," Fertitta said during the 2017 interview.
While he won't always have this exact boat, Fertitta, who is worth $9.3 billion, per Forbes, will likely always have a yacht and appears to have traded up.
He teased his new, fully custom vessel — a 77-meter giant built by Dutch shipyard Feadship — in 2019. It was delivered in 2021 and is also named Boardwalk.
The new Boardwalk has a more modern design. The gym has a Peloton and a Mirror ; there's a sauna and beauty salon; and there are six sit-down bars — appropriate for a hospitality billionaire.
"This takes it to a whole new level," his son, Michael, told Boat International .
Looks like Handler still has something to aspire to.

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital
There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.
How to find the right boat?
There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.
Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.
This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.
Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such option offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).
If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.
Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.
How to buy tickets?
Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.
“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!” wrote (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.
Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.
Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.
Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.
Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as this offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.
This website (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other website sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.
Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.
“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.
There are two main boarding piers in the city center: Hotel Ukraine and Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.
Where to sit onboard?
Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.
The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.
Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.
There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.

MOSCOW (AP) — The death toll from last week’s Moscow concert hall attack rose to 143, Russian authorities said Wednesday. Around 80 other people wounded in the siege by gunmen remain hospitalized.
The Friday night massacre in Crocus City Hall, a sprawling shopping and entertainment venue on the northwestern outskirts of Moscow, was the deadliest extremist attack on Russian soil in nearly two decades. At least four gunmen toting automatic rifles shot at thousands of concertgoers and set the venue on fire.
An affiliate of the Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the violence, while U.S. intelligence said it had information confirming the group was responsible. French President Emmanuel Macron said France also has intelligence pointing to “an IS entity” as responsible for the attack.

The updated fatalities from Russia’s Emergencies Ministry didn’t state the number of wounded, but Health Minister Mikhail Murashko said earlier Wednesday that 80 people were in hospitals and another 205 had sought medical treatment from the attack.
Russia’s Federal Security Service, or the FSB, said it had arrested 11 people the day after the attack, including four suspected gunmen. The four men, identified as Tajik nationals, appeared in a Moscow court on Sunday on terrorism charges and showed signs of severe beatings. One appeared to be barely conscious during the hearing.
Russian officials, however, have insisted that Ukraine and the West had a role , claims that Kyiv vehemently denies. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin of trying to drum up fervor as his forces fight in Ukraine.
FSB chief Alexander Bortnikov has also alleged, without providing evidence, that Western spy agencies could have been involved. He repeated Putin’s claim that the four gunmen were trying to escape to Ukraine when they were arrested, casting it as proof of Kyiv’s alleged involvement.
But that assertion was undercut by Belarus’ authoritarian president, Alexander Lukashenko, who said Tuesday that the suspects were headed for Ukraine because they feared tight controls on the Belarus border.
The Islamic State group, which lost much of its territory following Russia’s military action in Syria after 2015, has long targeted Russia. In October 2015, a bomb planted by IS downed a Russian jetliner over the Sinai desert, killing all 224 people aboard, most of them Russian vacationers returning from Egypt.

The group, which operates mainly in Syria and Iraq but also in Afghanistan and Africa, also has claimed several attacks in Russia’s volatile Caucasus and other regions in the past years. It has recruited fighters from Russia and other parts of the former Soviet Union.
The United States warned Moscow two weeks before the massacre about a possible imminent attack. Three days before the tragedy, Putin denounced the U.S. Embassy’s notice on March 7 urging Americans to avoid crowds in Moscow, including concerts, calling it an attempt to frighten Russians and “blackmail” the Kremlin before the Russian presidential election.
Bortnikov said Russia was thankful for the warning but described it as very general.

Take a look at the updated paddock
Here’s the new $200 million paddock at Churchill Downs. The walk thru and riders up for the 6th race on today’s card is going on with the sun out and the it full to the brim with hats, over the top outfits and owners and trainers preparing for the race.

Seize the Grey is owned by MyRacehorse — a company that allows regular people to buy shares of racehorses
Thrilling race in the Pat Day Mile
The eighth race turned out to be one of the most competitive races of the day so far with No. 5 Seize the Grey overtaking No. 11 Vlahos to win the race after all 12 horses entered the turn in a tight pack.
Seize the Grey was a 9-1 underdog as the race started on the betting tote.
Seize the Gray was ridden by Jaime Torres and trained by D. Wayne Lukas.
Weather only getting better as races roll on
"Here comes the Sun" is blasting over the Churchill Downs speakers as horses take the track for the eighth race on today's card.
Appropriate given how the temperature keeps climbing here.
The weather forecast on Apple still says there's a chance for a storm around 4 p.m., but the clouds continue to disappear around the track and are giving way to sunny skies.
Amon-Ra St. Brown takes photos with fans
(Photo: Hannah Vanbiber / The Athletic)
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Detroit Lions wide receiver and star Amon-Ra St. Brown hit the red carpet and got screams from fans when he jumped the barrier and took photos with them. When asked what celebrity or athlete he’s most want to be here at the Derby with, he said: “It would have to be Kobe Bryant, rest in peace, my favorite athlete growing up. If I could, it would definitely be Kobe.”
Dirt and track surface upgrade to good
Both the dirt and turf surfaces have been upgraded to good here at Churchill Downs. The sun is baking with a decent amount of humdity here with the high expected to be around 80.
The American flag is currently whipping next to the odds board for the first time in my two days here.
There's a decent chance the track could be upgraded to fast by the time the Derby starts near 7 p.m. ET.
Weather forecast looking cooperative
(Photo: Andrew DeWitt / The Athletic)
A scattering of clouds continues to dot the Louisville sky five hours out from race time, but the forecast has grown increasingly cooperative on Derby Day. Current temperatures are hovering around 75 degrees and are expected to rise slightly over the next few hours.
The threat for thunderstorms starting at 5 p.m. is lingering, but if the showers hold off then the track should remain in good condition after a dry start to the day.
Another race starting soon
We're about 15 minutes away from the seventh race on today's racing card and its largely been a day of chalk so far. The Derby is the 12th race on today's card.
The biggest upset so far came in race No. 5 where Cogburn, who was 8-1, won that Turf Sprint.
Another quick observation is that the dirt track is quickly drying out as the sun bakes down on Churchill Downs. It should be a good track for the rest of the day unless there's another shower that pops up.
Smokey is here for the hats
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Smokey Robinson is attending his 10 Kentucky Derby. “I come to see the hats!”
Isiah Pacheco rocking diamond-encrusted Tasmanian Devil
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Isiah Pacheco, Kansas City Chiefs’ running back, is getting a warm welcome from the crowd on the Churchill Downs red carpet. The Athletic asked him about his diamond-encrusted Tasmanian Devil pendant: “This is a pendant that represents me, the Tasmanian devil. It’s the way I run on the field, pop right back up when I’m on the ground. This is me, that’s my trademark.”
About next season he says, “I’m just taking it play by play, the key is being unsatisfied… The goal is a three-peat.”
Jameis Winston: 'I know we gonna be eating W's'
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Jameis Winston, QB for the Cleveland Browns, is here with his wife Breoin and some of his family for his first Derby. He told The Athletic : “I don’t know who I’m picking to win yet but I know we gonna be eating W’s. My family’s been in Kentucky for over a century and we’re wearing purple for royalty.” How to become a champion? “It takes dedication, trust, commitment and resilience.”

Kentucky Derby to continue being broadcast on NBC and Peacock
NBC Sports and Churchill announced this morning that the Kentucky Derby will air on NBC and Peacock through 2032 as part of an extension. That will make NBC the longest running home of the Kentucky Derby in history (32 editions of the Kentucky Derby from 2001 to 2032).
NBC Sports to air Kentucky Derby through 2032, becoming event’s longest-running broadcaster
Hey there, Jack Harlow
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The screams of the crowd reached a fever pitch as Jack Harlow cruised at top speed down the red carpet. “Sorry, guys, sorry,” he said with a backwards wave to the bank of cameras and interviewers before disappearing around the corner.
NFL legend Warren Moon in the house
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Football legend and Hall of Famer Warren Moon arrived at the red carpet. The Athletic asked him which horse he’s picking for the Derby and what it takes to make a champion: “Fierceness is the favorite, so I’m definitely gonna have that horse in some of my combinations. To make a champion it takes a lot of heart, takes a lot of mental and physical toughness, you have to be able to overcome adversity. And of course you’ve gotta be talented.” (edited)
Meet Just Steel (20-1 odds)
Jockey: Keith Asmussen
Trainer: Wayne Lukas
Birthplace: Kentucky
A $500,000 yearling purchase by the 2018 Triple Crown winner Justify, Just Steel represents 88-year-old Lukas’s chance to win a fifth Kentucky Derby, and first since 1999. With 11 races on his résumé, he’s run more than any other horse in the field (and nearly four times as many races as the horse to his hinside), with seven top-three finishes. Winless this year with three runner-up performances, he’s not done his best running on a wet track; consider using him underneath if it’s muddy.
Track drying out
The NBC broadcast just noted that the track seems to be drying out “at a pretty quick pace” — both the turf and the dirt.
Themed socks at Kentucky Derby shop
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The best thing I saw in the Kentucky Derby shop is these different socks.
There's the classic mint julep, a set of bowties themed with jockey silks and a hat set of socks.
Reed Sheppard: 'The fans, the school, the state, it’s really really hard to leave'
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Reed Sheppard talks to The Athletic on the red carpet at Churchill Downs about his love for Louisville and emotions headed to the NBA Draft:
“The fans, the school, the state, it’s really really hard to leave. That’s how much I’ve looked up to Kentucky.”
