Introduction to “Yacht Bathrooms Redefined: The Luxury of Szkilnik Wooden Bathtubs at Sea”

Embarking on a journey across the serene waters, one often seeks not just the thrill of the voyage but also the comfort and opulence that a luxury yacht can offer (see article The Haves and the Have-Yachts ). At the heart of this lavish experience is the yacht’s bathroom, a space that transcends mere functionality, evolving into a sanctuary of elegance and relaxation. In the world of luxury yachts, every detail counts, and the bathroom is no exception. It’s here that design and luxury intertwine, creating an environment that mirrors the serenity of the sea itself.

One of the most striking elements in these aquatic havens is the wooden bathtub ( history of wooden bathtubs ), a feature that brings a touch of nature’s warmth and an air of sophisticated craftsmanship onboard. Among the elite in this realm is the Szkilnik Design Company, known for their exquisite wooden bathtubs that blend seamlessly into the yacht’s luxurious aesthetic. Their bathtubs are not just fixtures; they are masterpieces of design, carved from the finest materials and crafted with precision, offering an unparalleled bathing experience.

As we delve into the world of luxury yacht bathrooms, we will explore the allure of wooden bathtubs, the exceptional artistry of Szkilnik Design Company, and how these elements come together to redefine the standards of luxury at sea. From the sleek lines and organic textures to the bespoke design options, Szkilnik’s wooden bathtubs are more than just a statement of luxury; they are a testament to the art of fine living on the water.

The Appeal of Wooden Bathtubs in Yacht Bathrooms

The fusion of luxury and nature in yacht bathrooms is epitomized by the inclusion of wooden bathtubs, a trend that has gained considerable traction among yacht owners seeking a unique and opulent bathing experience. The appeal of these bathtubs lies in their ability to bring an organic, soothing presence into a space often dominated by sleek, modern materials. Wooden bathtubs, especially those crafted by renowned designers like Szkilnik Design Company, offer an unparalleled aesthetic that combines the raw beauty of nature with the elegance of contemporary design.

  • Aesthetic Harmony with Nature : Wooden bathtubs resonate with those who appreciate the natural world. Their wooden structure provides a stark, yet harmonious contrast to the usual metallic or ceramic materials found in yacht bathrooms. This contrast is not just visually appealing but also invokes a sense of tranquility and earthiness, akin to a spa-like experience amidst the sea.
  • Tactile Experience : Beyond the visual appeal, wooden bathtubs offer a unique tactile experience. The texture of wood, smooth and warm to the touch, differs vastly from the cold, hard surfaces of traditional bathtubs. This warmth enhances the comfort level, making the bath more inviting, especially in the cool, open air of the sea.
  • Customization and Craftsmanship : Companies like Szkilnik are renowned for their bespoke designs. Each bathtub is not just a product but a piece of art, tailored to fit the specific dimensions and style of each yacht bathroom. The craftsmanship involved in these bathtubs speaks volumes of their quality and exclusivity, with attention paid to every detail, from the wood selection to the finishing touches.
  • Durability and Sustainability : Contrary to popular belief, high-quality wooden bathtubs are incredibly durable and can withstand the challenging marine environment. They are often treated with special sealants to prevent water damage, ensuring longevity. Moreover, wood is a renewable resource, and when sourced responsibly, it represents a sustainable choice in yacht design.
  • Psychological Benefits : There is also a psychological aspect to the appeal of wooden bathtubs in yacht bathrooms. Wood is known to have calming properties, reducing stress and promoting relaxation. The presence of a wooden bathtub can transform the bathroom into a retreat, a place to unwind and connect with the serenity of the ocean.

In conclusion, the integration of wooden bathtubs into yacht bathrooms is more than a trend; it’s a statement of luxury, a commitment to bespoke craftsmanship, and a nod to the natural world. It’s a choice that elevates the bathing experience to new heights, blending seamlessly with the opulent lifestyle that yachts represent.

Szkilnik Design Company: Craftsmanship and Elegance

At the forefront of marrying luxury with nature in yacht bathrooms is the Szkilnik Design Company, renowned for their exquisite wooden bathtubs. These bathtubs are not just functional elements but are emblematic of superior craftsmanship and elegance, setting a benchmark in luxury yacht interiors.

  • Unrivaled Craftsmanship : The cornerstone of Szkilnik Design Company’s reputation is their commitment to craftsmanship. Each bathtub is meticulously handcrafted, ensuring that every curve, edge, and surface is perfected. This high level of attention to detail results in a product that is as much a piece of art as it is a functional element of the yacht’s bathroom.
  • Custom Design Philosophy : Szkilnik understands that each yacht and its owner are unique. Hence, they offer a bespoke design service, allowing clients to have a significant say in the creation of their bathtub. From the choice of wood to the specific dimensions and finishes, each bathtub is tailored to the client’s exact preferences and the yacht’s aesthetic.
  • Quality Materials and Sustainable Practices : Szkilnik’s commitment to quality extends to their choice of materials. They use only the finest woods, sourced responsibly and sustainably. This not only ensures the longevity and durability of their bathtubs but also aligns with the growing demand for eco-friendly luxury products.
  • Innovative Designs Meeting Functionality : Szkilnik bathtubs are known for their innovative designs, which challenge conventional bathroom aesthetics. They combine beauty with practicality, ensuring that the bathtubs are comfortable, ergonomically sound, and suitable for the unique conditions of a yacht bathroom.
  • A Legacy of Satisfaction : The company’s portfolio is a testament to their success in delivering luxury and satisfaction to yacht owners. Their bathtubs are featured in some of the most prestigious yachts around the world, with clients praising the blend of functionality, beauty, and the distinct sense of luxury they bring to the yacht bathing experience.

In essence, Szkilnik Design Company is not just about creating wooden bathtubs; it’s about crafting an experience that enhances the luxury of yacht bathrooms, reflecting the individuality of the owner and the essence of high-end maritime living.

Integrating Szkilnik Wooden Bathtubs into Yacht Bathrooms

Incorporating a Szkilnik wooden bathtub into a yacht bathroom is not just about installing a bathing fixture; it’s about creating a centerpiece that defines the space’s ambiance and luxury. The integration process involves thoughtful design, careful selection, and meticulous installation, ensuring that the bathtub complements the yacht’s overall aesthetic and functionality.

  • Design Considerations : The first step in integrating a Szkilnik wooden bathtub is understanding the yacht’s interior design. The bathtub must harmonize with the existing style, whether it’s contemporary, classic, or a blend of both. Szkilnik’s team often collaborates with yacht designers to ensure that the bathtub fits seamlessly into the planned space, both in terms of dimensions and style.
  • Material Selection and Customization : Each Szkilnik bathtub is customized to the client’s preferences. This includes selecting the type of wood, each offering different hues and grain patterns. The wood is then treated with sealants to ensure durability and longevity in the marine environment.
  • Installation Process : Installing a wooden bathtub in a yacht requires precision and expertise. Factors like weight distribution, water supply, and drainage are critically evaluated. Szkilnik’s team ensures that the installation process adheres to the highest standards of safety and functionality, without compromising the yacht’s structural integrity.
  • Lighting and Accessories : The right lighting and accessories can enhance the wooden bathtub’s appeal, creating an inviting and relaxing atmosphere. Soft, ambient lighting can accentuate the wood’s natural beauty, while luxurious bath fittings and accessories add to the overall experience of indulgence and comfort.
  • Creating a Focal Point of Luxury : Ultimately, a Szkilnik wooden bathtub becomes the focal point of a yacht bathroom, drawing attention with its elegance and natural appeal. It’s a statement piece that speaks of the owner’s taste for refined luxury and their connection to the natural world.

In conclusion, integrating a Szkilnik wooden bathtub into a yacht bathroom is a process that blends art and engineering. It’s about creating a space that is not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing, offering an immersive experience that reflects the luxurious essence of yacht living.

Azimut Atlantis 50 foot yacht interior design

A yacht is really just a luxury floating home . When you’re talking 70 feet and larger, they’re a lot nicer than my house. As you’ll see in the luxury yacht interiors below, the quality and aesthetics are simply gorgeous. And we merely feature a small handful of such boats. There are thousands and thousands of these worldwide.

Our epic yacht interiors article is split into 5 galleries:  staterooms, guest bedrooms , salons and dinettes, kitchens and bathrooms. The point of this article is to merely give you a glimpse inside these ultra expensive boats… expensive to buy, run and maintain. Be sure to also check out our yacht decks galleries .

Yacht Primary Bedrooms (Staterooms)

We kick off our yacht interiors gallery with the stateroom. When it comes to the primary bedroom on these boats, no expense is spared. They are large, comfortable and stunning in design. These bedrooms are bigger than our primary bedroom.

Yacht Guest Bedrooms (2 Beds)

Many guest bedrooms on a yacht have two beds so that it can accommodate more people. However, they are, as you’ll see below, still very, very luxurious. These are certainly cozy sleeping quarters.

Abacus 70 foot - bedroom 2 beds

Salon and Dinette Photos

My favorite room on the boat is the salon and/or dinette area. In many cases, the dinette doubles as the living room. Mega yachts have dedicated salons and dining areas. I love these superb lounge designs below in the cabin as well as the upper lounge areas.

Large yacht salon interior

I must admit that kitchens on these super yachts are fairly small. I guess the cooking is done by the staff and yacht owners prefer to have more space for bedrooms, deck space and lounge space. That makes sense given there really is limited space. Nevertheless, these kitchens are gorgeous and the yacht designers certainly didn’t skimp with respect to quality.

Most boats dedicate very little space to bathrooms. Not these. The primary bathrooms below are incredible. The smaller bathrooms are guest bathrooms. These luxury yachts are so large and spacious that even the bathrooms are both beautiful and comfortable to use.

The Best Superyacht Master Staterooms To Relax In Style

Spacious owner’s suites onboard superyachts for sale..

Our bedrooms are a sacred space to unwind, relax, and take a deep breath. It’s a space where you can be yourself, and the way you decorate your bedroom might reflect that. Whether it’s in your home or onboard a superyacht, the master stateroom is free-range for owners to go wild as it’s not a social area. Some people are into big, bright windows with a light color scheme, others prefer a more dark and intimate setting.

We’re highlighting the best master staterooms onboard 5 superyachts for sale with Denison. Not to be dramatic, but when can we move in?

ABBRACCI | 180’ Heesen 2011

180 Heesen master stateroom

ABBRACCI is a perfect example of the quality, flexibility, and durability of Heesen’s designs. As you enter the 1100-square foot owner’s suite, you first encounter a private office with a sofa and television. It’s not only a quiet place to work, but creates a buffer between the main deck foyer and the master stateroom.

The owner’s suite onboard this 180-foot Heesen is stunning; it uses the full 33-foot beam to create a vast, circular stateroom. The room is laid out around a forward-facing king berth. Natural light floods the room, and the large windows slide open so that you can enjoy the ocean breeze. The spacious ensuite bathroom rivals those of luxury hotels and comes with an oval tub and separate shower

Contact Denison yacht broker Thom Conboy to inquire about ABBRACCI.

VIATORIS | 133’ Conrad 2018

133 Conrad master stateroom

VIATORIS won the 2019 World Superyacht Award and you can see why as you tour the elegant interior. The entire forward section of the main deck is dedicated to the owner’s suite, which is finished with warm oak and rosewood.

The custom-designed master stateroom onboard this 133-foot Conrad features a centerline king berth, his and her ensuite bathroom, walk-in closet with a vanity, and an owner’s office space. Port and starboard folding balconies open up the room so that you can enjoy the ocean breeze. Breakfast in bed? Yes, please.

Contact Denison yacht broker Alex G. Clarke to inquire about VIATORIS.

Numarine 37XP

Numarine 37XP master stateroom

You might need to pick your jaw up off the floor after seeing the owner’s accommodation on the Numarine 37XP . We have to specify that it’s the owner’s cabin because there is a separate master stateroom that’s equally as grand, minus a few features.

The full-beam owner’s stateroom on the Numarine 37XP is on the upper deck. The king-size bed faces aft to look out sliding glass doors with a view of the water. Heavy packers don’t have to worry about stealing closet space from their partner — a lengthy wardrobe has plenty of storage space for shoes and clothes. The same goes for the equally impressive sink and counter space in the ensuite bathroom. Other small but notable amenities in the owner’s stateroom include a minibar, safe, and dumb waiter.

Contact Denison yacht broker Alex G. Clarke to inquire about the Numarine 37XP.

CRESCENT LADY | 117’ Crescent 2020

Crescent 117 master stateroom

The interior of CRESCENT LADY is seriously impressive as it’s a Gregory C. Marchall design . This yacht boasts a dark and moody interior that matches her Seattle home. The full-beam master stateroom features clean and contemporary styling with a walk-around king-size bed, a large walk-in wardrobe, and an ensuite bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub.

The master stateroom on this Crescent 117 also hosts a desk and vanity on the port side, plus a love seat below the starboard window. The simple, dark color scheme creates a cozy and intimate setting to relax after a day on the water.

Contact Denison yacht broker Ari Sherr to inquire about CRESCENT LADY.

Alpha Spritz 102

Spritz 102 master stateroom

Alpha Custom Yachts thought of every last detail when designing the full-beam master stateroom on the Spritz 102 . It’s the forward most cabin on the lower deck and boasts a king-size bed, walk-in closet, desk area, lounge seating, ensuite bathroom, and plenty of storage. The hull windows are low to the water and provide plenty of natural light to create a comfortable space to relax.

The Spritz 102 is outfitted with floating walls, floors, and ceilings that are designed with insulation to reduce noise and vibrations so you can enjoy a quiet ride. One particular benefit to the floating floor configuration is the drain system (which can get a bit smelly on some older boats). Alpha Custom Yachts designed a drain system so that none of the odors from the bilge or rainwater tank permeate through the drainage system of the boat. You never have to worry about any unusual smells — a specific yet game-changing detail in the master stateroom.

Contact Denison yacht broker David Johnson to inquire about the Spritz 102.

While everyone has their preferences when it comes to interior design, these superyacht master staterooms are impressive in their size and layout. Some embrace large windows and natural light, while others opt for a modern and sophisticated layout.

Contact a Denison yacht broker who can help you find a featured yacht for sale. Better yet, they can help you find an impressive and functional stateroom layout if that’s an important factor.

Superyacht Interiors: The Top Luxury Designs

Luxury Brands

Everyone knows that a yacht or superyacht is nothing without a luxury interior. Indeed, there’s now a whole range of interior designers who either specialize in or regularly create yacht interiors. So, how do you find the best projects? Here at Insplosion, we want to help. That’s why we’ve gathered a list of our top luxury superyacht interiors !

Yacht fans may also like: Sabrina Monte-Carlo: Famous Interior Designers of Monaco

Brigadoon | studio indigo.

Including the Brigadoon in this list is pretty mandatory. After all, this luxury yacht by Studio Indigo is an actual winner of the World Superyacht Awards 2019! Thus, this project is all about the grand but understated mid-century luxury decor. The flowers, the wood, and navy-colored details combine to make this into a pretty classic luxury boat interior. Indeed, it’s the beautiful and neutral harmony that truly takes this project to the next level.

Besides, it’s quite a practical design. As you can see, the bedrooms and closets are amazingly organized. It’s all about luxury, yes, but also about comfort and practicality. The high seas are no place for clutter, which can cause accidents in bad weather.

But, in contrast with the brown color palette, you have this lovely deck area. With its slightly japandi style influences, this is the perfect place to relax in at the end of a long day.

Aurora Borealis | Winch Design

The Aurora Borealis does justice to its namesake. Indeed, it is as white and bright of an interior as the aurora itself. However, there are all sorts of little decor elements which are reminiscent of the sea. Just notice the shell-shaped ashtray and sea-horse patterns on some of the pillows! Finally, the mid-century lighting really adds a nice touch to the ambiance.

But there’s much more to admire. How do you like the lovely art deco bar? The lines themselves almost remind you of corals and shells. And the airy, light decor is just as present in the dining and living areas. While just as luxurious, this interior is much different from the Brigadoon’s.

Finally, we’ll leave you with this gorgeous view of the yacht’s deck at night. Once again, the seatings and patterns are chosen to be evocative of the ocean. It’s as gorgeous of a yacht design as you could ask for.

Superyacht Forever | St. Corona Interiors

If you’re looking for something equally light, but much more sober, look no further than Superyacht Forever . This creation by St. Corona Interiors also follows a white color scheme, but the decor elements aren’t quite as feminine. There’s not as much art deco influence here. The lines are much cleaner and simpler, almost minimalist compared to the glamour of the previous project.

Office Ideas

Neutral-Colored Living Room

The bar and living room area follow more or less the same route. Indeed, they favor light color schemes and clean, shapely lines. It’s all about practical luxury, functional without being quite minimalist.

Finally, we have the bedroom. While not opulent in the slightest, this room has the same sort of stylish beauty as the rest of the interior. Once again: you don’t want clutter on the high seas!

Logica | Martin Kemp Design

At last, we reach the Logica .  This project for a luxury yacht by Marin Kemp Design is everything our interior decor dreams are made of. Like the Aurora, it takes a much more art deco approach to superyacht interiors. The little metal details are just what we like to call luxury hardware!

The bedroom and living space designs follow very similar color schemes and strategies. Since you can’t have any clutter, it’s all about denoting luxury through the tiniest details.

Finally, you have the bathroom project, which is as light and gorgeous as the rest of the design. It’s a luxury bathroom through and through.

So, which of these superyacht interiors did you prefer?

Our Favourite Superyacht Bathrooms

Yacht interiors: luxury bathrooms

Superyacht interiors are known for their elegance, style, and high-quality finishes. Whilst the bathrooms and spas might not necessarily be the first area noticed on a superyacht, they provide a haven for you and your guests to relax in. We have rounded up some of our favourite bathrooms within our 3,800 global yacht fleet – enjoy!

Luxury motor yacht CHAKRA was recently refitted in 2016 and whilst Devonport kept the yachts original dark wooden panelling, they added modern and contemporary finishing touches that leave a lasting impression on any charterer. The master cabin has been beautifully finished with a white and grey marble en-suite bathroom as pictured above.

With generous deck areas and impressive entertainment facilities, CHAKRA is the perfect private yacht for socialising and entertaining with family and friends. With the capacity to hold up to 21 guests for a charter accompanied by 30 crew, you can guarantee a seven-star experience when aboard CHAKRA.

CHARKA

Built in 2015 by Feadship with her interior design by CG Design, this impressive 83.5m (274 ft) eco-friendly megayacht sleeps up to 12 lucky guests across 6 cabins. Whilst SAVANNAH has many impressive features, like the 9-metre swimming pool, the underwater lounge, or an elevator that serves all decks, it’s her bathroom that is a work of art. A marble finish throughout gives a fresh, contemporary, yet luxurious feel. The use of glass throughout the space reflects light from all angles give the sink an almost transparent look and feel.

SAVANNAH has won over seven top awards the year she was launched, including Motor Yacht of the Year – this is surely one of the most spectacular superyachts ever built and chartering this vessel would be an incredible experience for all.

Feadship

Built by iconic shipyard Baglietto in 2006 and refitted by its new owner, Ian Malouf, in 2018 with her interior design by Blainey North and Sabrina Monte Carlo, it’s no wonder that Australia’s largest yacht for charter is a showstopper in any harbour. MISCHIEF offers ample space for up to 12 guests in her 6 luxurious cabins. The full master suite lies forward on the main deck, with two further large doubles and smaller twins on the lower deck. The main salon features a large marble bar along with three-deck areas that are ideal for entertaining, relaxing, and socialising.

MISCHIEF’s lushly appointed bathroom is spacious with a bright and airy feel. The contemporary fittings are a timeless addition to the bathroom and whilst the artwork keeps it ultra-chic.

With an abundance of water toys and amenities to keep you entertained whilst at sea, MISCHIEF is ideal for a family charter or a fun time for friends.

Another Feadship yacht with interior design by Michael Leach Design, ANNA I is a 67m (220ft) superyacht with her interior areas spread over three-decks that offer plenty of recreation and entertainment options. ANNA I features a state-of-the-art fitness suite with Hammam facilities, a helipad and a cinema room along with water toys, and lots of alfresco dining space, but what we are really impressed with is her stylish large marble bathroom. The dark wood, elegant finishing touches, double sink and large bath with a waterfall tap offer a sanctuary for guests who want to relax and unwind.

ANNA I is available to charter in the Caribbean through Ahoy Club.

Superyacht.com's Top Interiors of 2021

By Danny Wiser

As the old adage goes 'it doesn't matter what you look like on the outside, it's what's on the inside that counts. Whilst at Superyachts.com we of course value exterior design, 2021 has seen a series of new creations kiss the waters packed out with magnificent interiors. Here are some of our favourites...

Cloud 9 The Italian city of Milan has long been with synonymous with good taste. Host to labels such as Versace, Armani and Dolce & Gabbana, the city is packed out with beautifully dressed individuals who spend their days roaming around the intricate architecture of the Piazza del Duomo and admiring the beauty of the displays in the high-end stores that make up the stunning Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. It therefore comes as no surprise that Milan was the birthplace and childhood inspiration of Francesco Paszkowski who designed the interiors for this 61.5m enchantress. Her matt grey colour scheme makes for a deeply relaxing and classy feel that is brought to life by the light of the outdoor living areas.

Moskito Dubbed the 'father of modern yacht design', Jon Bannenberg's involvement on any project is always likely to elicit excitement from yacht enthusiasts. Bannenberg & Rowell Design's involvement on this project of course did not fail to deliver as her contemporary interior creates a wonderful ambience. Her white Thassos marble flooring in the owner’s suite bathroom is a particular highlight, making the Dutch vessel a perfect getaway yacht for interior connoisseurs.

Triumph Just like Cloud 9, Triumph is another Italian creation, this time out of Benetti's shipyard who were also responsible for her magnificent interior. Owned by Sarah and Chris Dawson, executive chairman of the British retail chain The Range, Triumph includes not only includes a wild range of features for those who want to unwind and relax but so too a style that sets her apart from the rest thanks to some additional help from Green & Mingarelli Design. Plant life can be found across in most rooms bringing a sense of connection back to the land even when cruising across the high seas.

Victorious British based design studio, H2 Yacht Design designed the interior of Victorious who features accommodation for 24 guests in 12 cabins, including a private deck for the owner’s personal usage. Packed with amenities for family cruising, her interior is mindful of a child friendly design. This however, did not get in the way of luxury and risks were taking including the installation of glorious walnut flooring balancing together both functionality and aestethic. This delicate balance between style and function was perfected by the studio and after a 14 year long wait for her delivery, most would look at her and agree that the patience was worthwhile.

Luxury Superyacht Interior Design Ideas

Luxury Superyacht Interior Design Ideas

Jonathan Holmes

Home decoration doesn’t have to be restrained to dry land abodes. For those who count a luxury boat as a second home, or have their sights set on being able to say so someday, superyacht interior inspiration becomes a hot topic. There are design principles that remain relevant whatever the shape, size and style of the property, such as harnessing natural light, but beyond that, superyacht interior design requires its own, shipshape decorating agenda.

Luxury Superyacht Interior Design Ideas - Bedroom Yacht Interior - LuxDeco.com

Incorporating the structural elements

Boat interior design typically faces a few physical barriers that affect the aesthetic. Often, some of the necessary structural facets of the build are exposed, such as steel supporting girders in the centre of a room, or technical obligations like marked security exits and emergency lighting that need to be visible, but will detract from the room’s style.

The key is to turn these challenges into opportunities. In the case of the supporting columns, they can be transformed into elegant pillars with additional, dummy columns added to make a statement with strong symmetry.

Luxury Superyacht Interior Design Ideas - Bedroom Yacht Interior - LuxDeco.com

Channelling natural light

Just as with houses on the shore, a luxury yacht interior is always going to be benefit from natural light pouring in. Many contemporary yachts are purposefully being designed to echo what you see in contemporary buildings – ceiling to floor sheets of glass. Or as close to that as they can.

Not only does this direct a greater degree of natural light into the yacht’s living spaces, but it challenges the traditional window design you’d see at sea, making them appear less stereotypically nautical.

Maximise the amount of light by using high-gloss, polished surfaces that will reflect the sun’s rays as well as oversized mirrors if the wall space allows. If the yacht’s windows are more traditional in their dimensions, avoid heavy window treatments like fully-lined, voluminous curtains that, even when pulled back, will block some of the natural light from entering.

Working with oddly shaped rooms

Many vessels have a matrix of unusually shaped rooms that can make living quarters feel cramped. One way to work around this to use glass instead so that there’s still the required support in place, but the walls become transparent, opening up the environment.

This takes a lot of planning with the shipyard and means creating a channel that holds the glass within the boat’s structure – it should be installed even before the flooring so that the wall flows smoothly through the floor. But if this degree of build isn’t passable or if you’re only concerned with decoration rather than the boat’s architecture, remember to stick to just a few colours and materials in your boat’s scheme.

By having walls, ceiling and designer furniture all in the same colour, they fuse together and make unusually shaped rooms appear less cumbersome. In the Martin Kemp Design interior, you see a focus on white and the same tone of wood used from room to room, which result in any awkward angles being smoothed out.

Make the most of the minimal square footage

Even on the grandest of super yachts (have a read of our Q&A with superyacht firm Bannenberg and Rowell for seriously grand boat design talk), space is always the biggest constraint. Practicality doesn’t have to overrule good looks, but the two do need to balance to achieve a harmonious interior. Nothing is more frustrating than when there’s not enough room to store belongings, so by ensuring there’s a considerable amount of clever, integrated storage, the less there is to line the corridors and litter any surfaces.

Other key design tips to not over-occupy minimal square footage include ensuring any electrical wiring and speakers for technology like music or entertainment systems is concealed in the boat’s walls with a flush finish if possible. With lighting , concentrate less on floor lamps and more on wall lights , ceiling lights and pendant lights . Look closer at the Martin Kemp Design yacht bedroom and you’ll notice there are bedside wall lights and shelves rather than lamps and tables, as well as lots of LED strip lighting that take up no room.

Luxury Superyacht Interior Design Ideas - Living Room Yacht Interior - LuxDeco.com Style Guide

Build in seamless storage

Attention to detail is always pivotal in interior design, because the smallest of touches can have a huge effect. In terms of a boat’s design, a strong example is making sure any storage is handleless.

Push-to-open mechanisms or cutout handles really do make a room feel far sleeker. The handle-free option combined with integrated storage that’s flush to the wall allows for significant fluidity. This doesn’t mean to say that every piece of storage has to be fitted. But try to bring in any freestanding items of storage in line with the architecture of the room. Follow any places where the walls come out and let them be your guide.

Looking back at the Martin Kemp Design bedroom, the chest of drawers doesn’t protrude past the wall on the left-hand side of the room, and in the twin bedroom, the bedside tables are at the same level as the bed frame which creates a seamless line.

Luxury Superyacht Interior Design Ideas - Twin Bedroom Cabin Yacht Interior - LuxDeco.com Style Guide

Working with low ceilings

Superyacht design almost always should seek to combat the notorious low ceiling environment. Boat ceilings can be as low as seven feet, so employ design trickery techniques that can give the illusion that they’re on the taller side.

Reflective materials used well will add lift and can even create a feeling of infinity when they’re used in a detail-oriented way. For example, in the Martin Kemp Design bedroom pictured, where there’s a combination of gloss paintwork and reflective panels laid in a chevron formation which draws the eye up and along.

Equally, dark colours used overhead with a reflective finish adds depth to the ceiling that’s hard to calculate – there’s no telling where it ends, and so the ceiling height feels lifted, like it might go on and on and on.

<p> A sauna is the ultimate wellbeing treat, with dry heat to soothe muscles and de-stress the spirit. While the typical wood box is fine in a home gym, it can overpower a bathroom at home, so look for a design with stylish paneling or even glass walls for your personal spa space. </p> <p> ‘With a larger variety of wooden finishes than ever before, a sauna can now fit into your desired scheme, rather than dictate it,’ agrees Yousef Mansuri, director of design at CP Hart. ‘Effegibi’s Sky Sauna is a versatile design, ideal for made-to-measure solutions, with wide floor-to-ceiling glass panels and a glazed roof that create a beautifully light and airy feel.’ </p> <p> Saunas like this can also be customized with different woods, colored LED lighting and audio speakers. </p>

1. Install a sauna

'The interior designers I have spoken to, particularly since the pandemic, say that they are being asked to install saunas within clients' homes, and particularly within bathrooms,' says Lucy Searle, Editor in Chief, Homes & Gardens . 'Without fail, their clients are asking for this as an element of a home spa, and lots of soft texture, mostly within wood grain, is introduced to create an appealing space.'

<p> Bathroom art ideas are one of those elements that have crept into our wash spaces over the past few years, and with good reason: decorating with art makes bathrooms feel more curated, and therefore more luxurious. </p> <p> 'I would avoid choosing distinctly "bathroom" or "seaside" themed art for a bathroom. That's not to say these artworks don't have their place, but in a luxury bathroom, you will want to choose pieces that would be just as at home in a living space,' advises Lucy Searle. </p>

2. Hang bathroom art for luxury living appeal

Bathroom art ideas are one of those elements that have crept into our wash spaces over the past few years, and with good reason: decorating with art makes bathrooms feel more curated, and therefore more luxurious.

'I would avoid choosing distinctly "bathroom" or "seaside" themed art for a bathroom. That's not to say these artworks don't have their place, but in a luxury bathroom, you will want to choose pieces that would be just as at home in a living space,' advises Lucy Searle.

<p> Look to the beauty of natural timber for warmth – and a spa bathroom feel. Thanks to the desire to create a sanctuary at home, the bathroom has become a retreat, a private oasis to help restore mental and physical wellbeing. With this comes a move away from clinical style. Wood is now the material of choice for its natural beauty and warmth; it conjures the quiet luxury of a spa.                    </p> <p> ‘Cladding walls in wood brings the spa-like quality of timber to a bathroom and help to reduce echo,’ says Yousef Mansuri, director of design, C.P. Hart. However, there are many ways to introduce timber to your bathroom scheme, from a simple small stool to a timber-fronted vanity. Wood baths are reminiscent of Japanese soaking tubs, while the warm dry air of a naturally scented wood sauna offers the ultimate indulgence.                    </p>

<p> Curved shapes can visually transform a bathroom, adding softness and unparalleled luxury to a space notorious for its hard surfaces. Reminiscent of organic forms – a smooth pebbles, the bloom of a flower or a full moon – the latest luxury fittings are designed to bring a sense of nature into the bathroom.                    </p> <p> For maximum impact, the best way to introduce rounded shapes is to use them for the two key focal points – the basin area and the bath. If that’s not an option, then curved accessories, from tables to mirrors, can soften the scheme. </p>

4. Soften an design with rounded features

Curved shapes can visually transform a bathroom, adding softness and unparalleled luxury to a space notorious for its hard surfaces. <p> The move towards showers that offer a personalized experience provides an even greater opportunity to develop your bathroom as a sensual and luxurious retreat.                    </p> <p> As manufacturers have invested in shower technology, they are giving us more potential to enjoy the benefits of hydrotherapy at home. You could choose a sports-style directional shower head designed to deliver an invigorating experience and help relieve muscle pain, or a plate-style head with water that falls like soft rain to drench the skin and relax the mind.                    </p> <p> ‘Buy from a quality manufacturer to achieve an even spray across the shower head,’ says Yousef Mansuri. ‘Luxury shower panels can measure 1,000-1,200mm in length, and need high water pressure to operate effectively.’ </p>

5. Maximize the therapeutic benefits of water with a luxury shower

The move towards showers that offer a personalized experience provides an even greater opportunity to develop your bathroom as a sensual and luxurious retreat.

As manufacturers have invested in shower technology, they are giving us more potential to enjoy the benefits of hydrotherapy at home. You could choose a sports-style directional shower head designed to deliver an invigorating experience and help relieve muscle pain, or a plate-style head with water that falls like soft rain to drench the skin and relax the mind.

‘Buy from a quality manufacturer to achieve an even spray across the shower head,’ says Yousef Mansuri. ‘Luxury shower panels can measure 1,000-1,200mm in length, and need high water pressure to operate effectively.’

<p> Tactile finishes please the senses and introduce visual style to a luxury bathroom. For many years, bathrooms have been all about ultra-practical smooth surfaces, brassware and tiles. But increasingly the design has focused less on pure functionality and more on practicality mixed with comfort and style – and the tactile quality of bathroom fittings have moved to the fore.                    </p> <p> The beauty of using texture in interior design is not just aesthetic, but also luxurious and sensual: how does a tap feel to touch? In many ways, the bathroom is where are are at our most vulnerable, so surfaces that feel pleasing can enhance the cocooning effect. </p>

6. Introduce textural elements to a luxury space

Tactile finishes please the senses and introduce visual style to a luxury bathroom. For many years, bathrooms have been all about ultra-practical smooth surfaces, brassware and tiles. But increasingly the design has focused less on pure functionality and more on practicality mixed with comfort and style – and the tactile quality of bathroom fittings have moved to the fore.

The beauty of using texture in interior design is not just aesthetic, but also luxurious and sensual: how does a tap feel to touch? In many ways, the bathroom is where are are at our most vulnerable, so surfaces that feel pleasing can enhance the cocooning effect.

<p> Bright pops of color don’t have to be restricted to the wall anymore, with options to have colorful washbasins and toilets, tiles and even brassware greater than ever before. Warm, earthy tones create a sense of calm, whereas bolder hues can feel more energizing. </p>

7. Consider colorful sanitaryware

As permanent fixtures, colorful sanitaryware requires unswerving commitment, and is not for the faint hearted.

‘Colored sanitaryware is definitely seeping back into bathrooms now, and we’ve had orders for stunning fittings in deep mustards, heritage greens and teal blues,’ reports Louise Ashdown, head of design, West One Bathrooms.

‘If you’re still sitting on the fence, go for white sanitaryware with paintable exteriors, like cast iron baths and this retro basin – West One’s Broadway basin is similar. For a more discreet color pop, consider colorful brassware in statement fiery oranges and zingy limes.’

<p> Introducing exotic stone is another wonderful way of lifting a bathroom scheme. Real stone requires a larger budget, but you can find convincing lookalikes that are just as beautiful, without the high price tag or care and maintenance. </p> <p> This basin is actually custom-made from 6mm-thick porcelain tiles to create a convincing natural agate. </p> <p> Bathroom Design Studio’s managing director John Naughten says, ‘Thanks to the many advances in surface technologies, the design of porcelains inspired by precious stones are now incredibly lifelike, yet offer far easier cleaning and no aftercare.’ </p>

8. Bring in colorful stone

Exotic stones like Onyx and Marinace marble are stealing the show in luxury bathrooms. Celebrated for their jewel-like hues and crystalline sparkle, these rarefied stones can create incredible backsplash and shower backdrops.

In areas that benefit from low maintenance, Bathroom Design Studio’s managing director John Naughten recommends manmade alternatives, like this basin custom made from 6mm-thick porcelain tiles in a convincing natural Agate pattern.

‘Thanks to the many advances in surface technologies, the design of porcelains inspired by precious stones are now incredibly lifelike, yet offer far easier cleaning and no aftercare,’ he explains.

<p> ‘For me, farmhouse style really is about a lifestyle – cozy, comfortable, easy fabrics, light and airy,’ says interior designer Karen B. Wolf. ‘The idea is for the interior to reflect a welcoming attitude that is relaxed, friendly and uncluttered.’ </p> <p> To achieve this, particularly in a small or compromised space, you may need bathroom storage made for purpose. </p>

9. Get your bathroom lighting spot on

Whether you are having an energizing shower in the morning or a relaxing soak in the evening: good bathroom lighting ideas will help create the right mood in a luxury space, and is best planned right at the beginning of the project. Think about a combination of three types of light: ambient to light the space; task for a specific function; and accent to provide the magic.

Strategically placed mood lighting is the secret to creating a luxury bathroom that’s as indulgent as your favorite spa. If you’re a bath person, focus on atmospheric bathroom lighting to create ambience near the bath. Waterproof light fittings can be added inside the bath and shower, creating a luxurious spa effect as they shimmer through the water.

<p> Technical advances in porcelain and ceramic production have revolutionized the variety of bathroom tile ideas on offer. Faux stone and wood porcelain tiles are now so advanced it’s hard to tell them from the real thing, and they are water, stain and scratch resistant, don’t require sealing and come complete with realistic color and graining variation. </p> <p> 'Formats are getting larger and larger,' says Jules Archard, sales manager, Surface. 'We are also seeing lots of interest in patchwork patterns and murals – the latest contemporary takes on traditional encaustic designs – and in vintage looks created by metro, hexagonal and concrete-look tiles.'                    </p> <p> But for some, there’s nothing quite like the natural beauty of real stone with its dramatic veining and sense of timeless luxury, even though it will require sealing and maintenance: a wall of book-matched marble behind a freestanding bath makes an eye-catching feature like no other. </p>

10. Think carefully about tiling

Technical advances in porcelain and ceramic production have revolutionized the variety of bathroom tile ideas on offer. Faux stone and wood porcelain tiles are now so advanced it’s hard to tell them from the real thing, and they are water, stain and scratch resistant, don’t require sealing and come complete with realistic color and graining variation.

'Formats are getting larger and larger,' says Jules Archard, sales manager, Surface. 'We are also seeing lots of interest in patchwork patterns and murals – the latest contemporary takes on traditional encaustic designs – and in vintage looks created by metro, hexagonal and concrete-look tiles.'

But for some, there’s nothing quite like the natural beauty of real stone with its dramatic veining and sense of timeless luxury, even though it will require sealing and maintenance: a wall of book-matched marble behind a freestanding bath makes an eye-catching feature like no other.

<p> Designed to steal the show and provide a luxurious deep soak, a well-chosen bath will prove a seriously good investment in a luxury bathroom scheme. Whether made from solid stone, classic cast iron or modern composite resin, statement baths are built to impress – and their desirability has soared in recent years. </p> <p>                      ‘These designs are synonymous with luxury and clients love the spacious bathing experience,’ says Joy Chesterton of Ripples. Most statement baths are made to be positioned away from walls; a central location has extra glamor and can boost the room’s sense of proportion.                    </p> <p> ’Symmetry and balance are key to creating an elegant, serene interior,’ says Lucy Powell of Bathrooms.com. ‘Installing a really eye-catching bath in the middle of the room will provide a central axis that works as a natural focal point.’ </p>

11. Make a statement with a well-chosen bath

Designed to steal the show and provide a luxurious deep soak, a well-chosen bath will prove a seriously good investment in a luxury bathroom scheme. Whether made from solid stone, classic cast iron or modern composite resin, statement baths are built to impress – and their desirability has soared in recent years.

‘These designs are synonymous with luxury and clients love the spacious bathing experience,’ says Joy Chesterton of Ripples. Most statement baths are made to be positioned away from walls; a central location has extra glamor and can boost the room’s sense of proportion.

’Symmetry and balance are key to creating an elegant, serene interior,’ says Lucy Powell of Bathrooms.com. ‘Installing a really eye-catching bath in the middle of the room will provide a central axis that works as a natural focal point.’

12. Invest in modern marble

If you are looking for next-level luxury in your bathroom, exotic stone surfaces are the way to go.

There are few materials that can create a feeling of opulence in modern bathroom design that marble can. Elegant, understated and effortlessly beautiful, marble bathroom ideas can be used to great effect in a luxury bathroom.

Consider the marble carefully for spaces where you are using it in swathes because no slab of marble is the same as another. If money is no object, book-matched marble is an elegant and timeless exotic stone so using it on both walls and floors will create a cohesive and yet striking look.

Integrity and the relentless pursuit of the deal defines Moran Yacht & Ship - I am grateful that you were on this journey with me. This magical machine KISMET is the second yacht I’ve had built with Moran Yacht & Ship. KISMET has brought joy, hope, and the gift of discovery to many lives - including my own. You have made this world a better place! Owner, KISMET
By way of background, my business interests include controlling stakes in 3 publicly traded companies which operate vessels in the 500 to 5000dwt range. On average, one new vessel a year would be added to the fleet. As a result, I have access to in-house marine architects, engineers and construction supervisors. Consequently, when I decided to build my first large motor yacht, I did not feel I needed the services of a company like Moran Yacht & Ship. In any event, I was persuaded to let them negotiate on my behalf while I simultaneously held discussions with other building options. Moran Yacht & Ship understands yachts, their incredibly complex systems, and what constitutes a practical solution to various owners’ ideas. In short, I would not consider building another yacht without engaging Moran Yacht & Ship to provide the services they are so good in delivering. Former Owner, NORTHERN STAR
