BEACH SUPERYACHT SERIES

“…at the beach, you live in the present, follow the tides, and embrace the outdoors. it’s enough to bring about a feeling of tranquillity and revitalization…”.

The BEACH range introduces a series of superyachts in 77m, 88m and 99m LOA designs, offering future owners a variety of yacht sizes as well as the opportunity to operate multiple yachts as a family or group of friends.

Each length of the BEACH superyacht series has different functional options available in the General Arrangement, for owners to create a perfect match with their lifestyle and preferences. The beach theme is the basis for the interior style, while individual customization allows for a personal touch. Options and customization ensure private exclusivity for each yacht.

SCULPTURAL MODERNITY

Next level exterior design.

The sculpted exterior designs of the BEACH 77, 88 and 99 superyacht series are inspired by the motion of waves caressing a beach. To starboard and port, the hull of the BEACH series tumbles aft and flares at the bow in a statement of nautical elegance. A strong horizontal definition line, extending from the main deck all the way to the bow, accentuates the stable and forward-directed feel of the BEACH series.

Construction is minimal and open; balustrades are transparent and the connection to the sea is all-encompassing due to the floor-to-ceiling glass façades. The large exterior decks culminate in the aft deck beach, with an embedded infinity pool amid steps descending to the waterline. The beam-wide swim platform offers access to the water and acts as a mooring spot for private limo tenders and water toys.

LIMITLESS BEACH

A refreshing approach to interiors.

The BEACH 77, 88 and 99 superyachts align with modern requirements with a full-beam forward owner’s state room. There are several interior options available, including an additional child’s cabin or a large owner’s office. A central core setup within the owner’s area allows for a spectacular free walk-around inside the glass façade. VIP and guest cabins are plenty and there is a choice in beauty, treatment, gym, or spa facilities.

The BEACH interior style is relaxed, informal, and open to individual accents in art, furniture, and color, accommodating an owner’s personal taste and style. The uncluttered, open-plan layout maximizes available space onboard all yachts of the BEACH series, making them feel bright and breezy. Plentiful natural light from sea, skies, and views creates the feeling that there is no boundary between indoors and outdoors.

OWNER’S STATE ROOM

Openness and freedom.

On the BEACH superyacht series, the prime location is reserved for the owner’s state room in the forward section of the owner’s deck. The state room is connected to the owner’s bathrooms and his and her dressing areas by stunning walk-through passageways on either side of the head-rest wall, inside the full height glass façade.

The owner’s deck is designed for the exclusive use of the owner, providing a special deck for him or her and their loved ones to sail in full privacy and maximum comfort. All aspects of the Owner’s State Room, from the bed design and accessories to the chairs and rug, are completely custom-designed and carefully crafted from genuinely sustainable natural materials. The sophisticated use of warm color tones and neutral indirect lighting creates an intimate, homey atmosphere.

OWNER’S DRESSING & BATHROOM

Laid-back luxury.

A centralized core design set-up for the owner’s deck on the BEACH superyacht series allows free movement within the corridor inside the glass façade, emphasizing the feeling of connection to the environment. His and her dressing units are located to port and starboard, offering ample storage space. Every detail of the form, material selection, finishes and functionality of the dressing areas has been meticulously considered.

The spacious bathrooms offer a minimalist, laid-back, yet luxurious, style. Natural materials with subtle textures provide a tactility that stimulates the senses, a design approach which is continued in the sensitive detailing of hardware and accessories. The open shower unit, created using vividly patterned and back-lit natural stone, is located near to the vanity and offers stunning views.

MAIN DECK LOUNGE

Shared relaxation.

As the gateway to the aft beach deck, the main deck lounge is the place for guests, family, and friends to gather and prepare for a new day of relaxation aboard a BEACH superyacht. Panoramic ocean views are spectacular due to the full height glass façade and the glass balustrade.

The relaxing lounge setting ensures this area of the yacht is ideal for spending memorable times with family and friends, establishing the lounge as a true meeting point of the yacht. The lounge furniture is completely custom-made by the finest craftsmen and is upholstered in soft fabrics with ton-sur-ton throw pillows for extra comfort. Natural materials and a balanced application of grids and wood structures define the space in well-proportioned sections.

The pleasure of quality time

The Beach Club on the lower deck of the BEACH superyacht series is a perfect place to linger and come together prior to and after water sports, or just to have a good time. As the pivotal location to enjoy quality time, the Beach Club offers informal seating, drinks, parties, beauty treatment stations, massage, Pilates, gym or yoga.

The Beach Club has direct access to the exterior aft beach deck with infinity pool, sunbeds, and loungers as well as the main deck lounge. It is a unique social space allowing larger groups, from the shore or other yachts, to join onboard and enjoy the company of family and friends. Comfortable laid-back seating ensures this zone is the hotspot of each yacht during the day and into the night, allowing all to enjoy the ocean to the absolute fullest.

BEACH SERIES

Family of superyachts.

The BEACH 77, BEACH 88 and BEACH 99 designs are united by a stepped aft deck with a large pool, which connects the main deck seamlessly to the water. All yachts of the series feature abundant outdoor space on all decks, with distinct exterior designs which are discerning and timeless.

State-of-the-art and practical design solutions are incorporated in each yacht of the series. Key characteristics include full-height glass façades at the higher deck cabins and lounges for open ocean views and maximized overall ceiling heights, ensuring generous interior space. For the layout, furniture arrangements and sightlines are smart and effective, optimizing the value of each square meter of available space aboard.

Common theme of the BEACH series is connected interior and exterior spaces aft. From the main lounge to the aft beach deck and on to the full beam beach club with fold-down hatches both on starboard and portside, there is a seamless transition to enjoy the pleasures of the sea and relish quality time with family and friends.

Sander Sinot of Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design is continuously collaborating with owners to talk about their shared passion, their ambitions, but also trends and developments in the yachting industry. Sander recognises that the market is ready for a new approach that makes a clean break from the archetypical yacht, but at the same time retains the essence of the nautical spirit. The 137-meter mega yacht BREEZE is the result of this innovative thinking, which brings together a unique visual language and the careful use of materials and architectural detailing. Luxury superyacht BREEZE represents a ground-breaking yacht concept and a new way of thinking about superyachts.

“ Breeze is a yacht that prefers hidden luxury and elegance over superfluous detailing. Breeze’s owner feels no urge to prove himself – he makes an impression through his professional success and his positive, informal and smart appearance. This casual, open-minded business tycoon feels comfortable in Breeze’s open and airy environment. The yacht’s peacefulness and freedom perfectly match his spiritual personality, but the craftsmanship in every detail of the yacht will strongly appeal to him.” Sander Sinot

The BREEZE yacht merges the qualities of a spacious, comfortable luxury resort with that of an informal contemporary work environment which is oriented towards interaction and innovation. Green, globally oriented, entrepreneurial. Designed for relaxation and exertion, action and contemplation. A yacht that brings together extremes and where the owner, his family, friends and business relations can experience the refreshing breeze of the future.

“Our philosophy for Breeze reflects the changing purpose of super yachts in the near future. Owners and their guests will spend more and more time on the yacht. The emphasis is going to shift from just leisure to leisure and business, where the yacht will increasingly serve as an attractive alternative to the office or the country club. Owners will no longer just fly in for short stays, but will spend longer periods on board and use their time there to relax and pursue their regular business activities. Breeze is fully equipped for this, allowing the owner to make optimal use of the advantages of an offshore office.” Sander Sinot

The top quality of materials and equipment make the Breeze yacht extremely durable, ensuring that it will be sailing the world’s oceans for a very long time. But it is not only the striking details that make Breeze an exceptional yacht. Breeze embodies a new idea, a new direction in the design of the world’s largest yachts. In this new conceptualisation, owners will spend more time on their yacht, which will take up a dual leisure-and-business function. For the designers at Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design, this new direction means they make use of large, open, light spaces that are fully geared towards providing high levels of comfort and enabling fun and interaction. At the same time, the generous use of glass and the large outdoor spaces allow Breeze to retain a strong maritime character. Moreover, the massive Private Bay with its 25-metre Lagoon Cruiser on the lower deck brings the sea closer than ever. Yet the yacht’s unique versatility means that the owner and his guests are never restrained in their need for freedom, privacy and space. With its large airy spaces, Breeze is a luxurious country club, a highly exclusive beach resort and an innovative private office all in one.

“As designers, we try to infuse something new into everything we create. This is always a great challenge, especially for the design of a super yacht, where our clients are generally demanding and like to be closely involved in the design process. At times the sense of innovation is expressed in individual details, while at others it is more apparent in the yacht’s overall aspect. And sometimes every part of the design concept is entirely novel. This is the case for Breeze. This 137-meter yacht with its wide beam of 20-meter distinguishes itself through its unusual details, such as the infinity pool with its eye-catching water feature or the huge Private Bay, which allows the owner and his guests to enjoy their own private seafront beach whenever and wherever they want.” Sander Sinot

EXTERIOR DESIGN

Breeze’s exterior reveals the yacht’s openness to its maritime surroundings. Bridge and bow are drawn together in a half arch, merging space, construction and functionality. Eye-catching exterior details include the prominent entrance, and the design and positioning of the large sloping windows.

All five spacious exterior decks are connected to interior lounges that are geared towards enjoyment and relaxation. With its transparent dome the Wheel House Lounge vantage point on the top deck allows for stunning 360-degree ocean views. The remarkable round table on bridge deck is surrounded by revolving windows and a retractable roof, allowing the table to be positioned both indoors and outdoors.

The outstanding feature on upper deck is the infinity pool with its rounded, shatterproof glass walls along which water is allowed to run freely.

The spacious main deck features a number of seating arrangements, including a breakfast or relaxation area, and a Gym & Spa worthy of any high-level athletics club. On the lower deck, the yacht’s sides and stern open up for the owner and his guests to enjoy the pleasures of maritime life and embark on the yacht’s water toys, tenders or Lagoon Cruiser.

PRIVATE BAY

The Breeze design philosophy rests on the assumption that super yachts will play an ever-greater role in owners’ lives. One of the great challenges in the design of a super yacht like Breeze is to ensure that the owner, his family and his friends can fully enjoy the pleasures of maritime life. Sander Sinot and his team have chosen a pioneering approach on Breeze with the creation of a magnificent Private Bay in the ocean.

By opening the rear and the two sides of the yacht, an impressive 35-meter U-shaped open beach area emerges that can be used for swimming, sunbathing, relaxation and exploring the surroundings with the various water toys. The 25-meter Lagoon Cruiser is the most eye-catching of all of Breeze’s toys. This remarkable ship is fitted out with all modern appliances and is fully equipped for several-day excursions. Furthermore, the tender’s dual electric and fuel engines allow it to noiselessly enter and exit Breeze’s Private Bay.

INTERIOR DESIGN

One of Sander Sinot’s objectives in the interior design of Breeze was to create an open, airy, stylish and inviting feel. The use of large windows throughout allows not only optimal use of natural light, but also accentuates the merging of indoor and outdoor spaces. Each space balances comfort and style to create an atmosphere in which the owner can really feel at home. Light teak floors, an abundance of glass, bronze and stainless steel finishings, genuine, natural materials such as silk, cotton and linen, and space, lots of space.

Moreover, depending on the owner’s tastes, the corridors can be built in rounded or rectangular style. Breeze’s interior design strikes a perfect balance between openness and privacy. Functional elements have been conceptualised as freestanding objects, though special care has been taken not to compromise sight lines or spatial balance in any space. The use of predominantly natural light and natural colours gives the yacht a serene feel. As in every other Sinot Yacht Design project, almost all of Breeze’s furniture and accessories are custom designed. Sinot relies on its global network of suppliers and works only with the most highly qualified craftsmen to guarantee the best possible quality of materials and objects.

Luxury mega yacht Breeze’s Sky Lounge on the bridge deck is a unique space in which indoors is easily transformed into outdoors and vice versa. The Lounge is divided into exactly equal-sized indoor and outdoor spaces with a specially designed, custom-made round table in the middle that can accommodate 20 people. Thanks to innovative revolving windows, the table can effortlessly be brought into the indoor or the outdoor space. The al fresco window can be shut by simply pressing a button to bring the table into the beautifully decorated lounge. In the evening, the blinds can be drawn for greater privacy, while special lighting creates a cozy, intimate atmosphere.

Crafted of sculpted glass, the stunning custom-designed bar is another striking feature in this lounge, resembling an ice sculpture. Besides this inviting bar, the lounge also features a movie theatre setting with an inventive seating system that can be arranged so that each of the 20 comfortable seats enjoys a perfect view of the screen.

GUEST STATEROOMS AND OWNER STATEROOM

The Guest State Rooms exude the same atmosphere of luxury and serenity as the rest of the yacht. With excellent beds, a large bathroom, abundant natural light and specially designed furniture, every guest will feel at home in these luxurious rooms. Soft colours, light wood types and rare natural stone are used to achieve the tone of hidden luxury that typifies the Breeze design concept.

In the Owner State Room one is immediately struck by an immense sense of space. The super-size bed seems suspended in space, while the use of light wood types in the floors, ceiling and walls enhances the serene and calming atmosphere. The bottom-lit, handcrafted frosted glass rocks along the large slanted windows create a subtle transition between indoor and outdoor spaces.

The luxurious his-and-hers bathrooms further elaborate the open design concept and feature a wooden bathtub. The owner can custom-design this element by handpicking light or dark types of wood or stone. The Owner State Room also includes two spacious dressing rooms for him and her. Thanks to the large window, these spaces communicate with the outdoor spaces, while the custom-fitted wooden shades also allow the dressing rooms to be transformed into a more intimate setting.

UPPER DECK LOUNGE

Space and relaxation are core concepts in the design of the imposing upper deck. Located on the same level as the Owner State Room, the upper deck Lounge provides the perfect setting for relaxing evenings. With its impressive large window areas, the upper deck Lounge has a very open, airy and spacious character. The interior appears to merge with the outdoor spaces, accentuating its serene and peaceful character.

The owner and his guests can make use of the eight-meter custom-designed wooden bar or relax in the circular seating area to enjoy the sea views.

However, the infinity pool immediately stands out as the upper deck’s central feature. The water that runs along the rounded, shatterproof glass wall of this eight-meter pool makes it seem like there is a column of water on the deck. The artificial waterfall above the infinity pool is lit up with a high-frequency pulsating light so that the drops of water look frozen in space and this swimming pool truly becomes a work of art.

MAIN DECK LOUNGE

The main deck Lounge is conceived along the same spatial design principles as the rest of the yacht, with many open spaces, long sight lines, the use of light colors and materials and large window areas. The most eye-catching element in the Lounge is the walk-in aquarium with its cybernetic swimming deep-sea creatures. These glass-like solar-powered robots choose random swimming patterns in the crystal-clear bottom-lit water.

Around the aquarium, the sophisticated fitness equipment and stylish relaxation facilities of the Gym and Spa offer everything that is needed to stay in shape. The Gym offers a sweeping view through large windows, which open up onto the deck to allow for open-air training sessions. The Gym’s positioning in an open Lounge space enhances the feeling of freedom during training. Across from the Gym, comfortable chaises longues provide space for relaxation.

The Gym and Spa draw on Oriental philosophies to create ultimate wellbeing. The design of the two 5×7-meter wellness pavilions employs natural woods and soothing colors and materials to heighten the sense of calm and tranquility. The first of these two spa hubs features Turkish-style cold and hot tubs and a professional massage table, while the second accommodates a spacious sauna and a fully equipped beauty salon.

Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design reveals 80m Feadship concept Zen

Dutch studio Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design has developed a new 80 metre superyacht concept for Feadship , which aims to break away from the “typical wedding-cake appearance”.

Rather than the traditional design of two lounges stacked on top of each other, Project Zen features one large saloon. The idea came about following discussions with clients who said that superyacht owners rarely use both lounges and instead spend a large proportion of their time in their favourite lounge.

The interior of Project Zen aims to make good use of the yacht’s length over the full length of the bridge deck and the main deck. This includes a 100 square metre lounge, with side panels and aft glass corners that can open up to connect this area to the aft deck.

Exterior relaxation spaces on Project Zen include just under 500 square metres of deck space for sunbathing and hosting parties, including an eight-metre swimming pool, upper deck helipad and a superyacht spa pool on the foredeck.

The amidships dining area features sliding doors on both sides and a skylight, adding to the connection with the exterior spaces, while the fold-out superyacht terraces provide a great spot for enjoying an aperitif. Project Zen’s interior volume totals 1,980GT and the on-board decor includes custom-designed furniture, dark woodwork, silk carpets and soft chenille fabrics.

Moving forwards, the high-tech bridge area includes floating consoles and two guest settees – ideal for owners and guests who like to interact with the crew. Accommodation is for 10-12 guests with a full-beam main-deck owner’s stateroom and a choice of 4-5 VIP guest cabins.

The crew quarters could be modified for a staff of up to 25, while the tender garage could hold four wave runners and three tenders measuring up to 9 metres.

The studio adds that this all-aluminium superyacht concept has been developed in close collaboration with Feadship CEO Henk de Vries with a strong emphasis on practicality and cost effectiveness. Power would come from a Caterpillar diesel-electric powerplant for a top speed of 18 knots and silent cruising at ten knots.

Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design

Within the niche universe of superyacht design, Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design has etched its name as a creator of extraordinary aquatic experiences. Founded in the late 1990s by Sander Sinot, an industrial designer with a diverse background that includes a tenure with legendary designer Henry Dreyfuss in New York, the Netherlands-based studio has matured into a powerhouse. Today, it operates with a 30-strong team of specialists, each dedicated to manifesting the studio’s philosophy of interlacing exceptional interior and exterior designs to create seamless yacht experiences.

At Sinot, the cornerstone of yacht design extends far beyond mere aesthetics; it engages directly with the lived experiences of owners, guests, and crew. Exterior designs reflect a fusion of client visions and the studio’s technical ingenuity, harmonizing elements like hull shape, superstructure dimensions, and bow form to craft exteriors that are both timeless and distinct. The attention to detail is almost obsessive, touching even the minutiae of masts, railings, and porthole designs. The interiors, meanwhile, are an epitome of bespoke luxury, each meticulously crafted to mirror the owner’s identity, aspirations, and lifestyle. Spaces come alive through a synergy of rare woods, high-quality fabrics, custom-built furniture, and innovative technology. Sinot’s designs culminate in what can best be described as a ‘total work of art,’ a term that captures the ensemble of external and internal design intricacies, from spatial planning to the strategic use of light, thereby turning the yacht into an immersive, holistic experience.

Sinot’s stellar reputation is supported by an array of remarkable projects that stand as testimonies to their design acumen. Among the most prominent is Oracle CEO Larry Ellison’s Musashi, an 87.78-metre marvel constructed by Feadship, for which Sinot led both interior and exterior designs. Their portfolio also includes other iconic vessels like Feadship’s ROCK.IT and F45 Harle, extending their collaborative footprint across renowned shipyards and architects. With awards like the 2012 ShowBoats Design Award for Musashi’s interior, Sinot has not only proven its creative prowess but has also set new industry standards. Whether it’s an 87-metre behemoth or a conceptual 115-metre Estatement, Sinot’s projects are a marriage of luxury, functionality, and unparalleled attention to detail, solidifying their standing as one of the most impactful and innovative design studios in the maritime world.

VESSEL REVIEW | Sinichka – Electric commuter boats designed for Russia’s Moskva River

sinot exclusive yacht design

A series of three new electric monohull commuter ferries have already begun operational sailings on the Moskva River in the Russian capital Moscow.

Built by Russian shipyard Emperium, sister vessels Sinichka , Filka , and Presnya – all named after rivers in Moscow – are being operated by the Moscow Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development (Moscow Deptrans). They are the first units of a planned fleet of 20 vessels that will serve the capital city and other nearby communities. The new ferry system will be the water transport system to be operated on the Moskva River in 16 years.

Each vessel has a welded aluminium hull, an LOA of 21 metres, a beam of 6.2 metres, a draught of only 1.4 metres, a displacement of 40 tonnes, and capacity for 80 passengers plus two crewmembers. Seating is available for 42 passengers on each ferry, and the main cabins are also fitted with USB charging ports, wifi connectivity, tables, toilets, and space for bicycles and scooters. The cabin layout can be rearranged to allow the operator to adjust the distances between the seats and to install armrests of varying widths.

sinot exclusive yacht design

An open upper deck is also accessible to passengers and is the only area on each ferry where smoking is allowed.

The ferries are all of modular construction with each ferry’s wheelhouse, main cabin, and other structural elements being built as complete, separate components. This enables the ferries to be easily dismantled for transport to anywhere in Russia by rail and then quickly re-assembled within seven days.

The ferries are also ice-capable. Recently completed operational trials on the Moskva showed that the vessels can also easily navigate under mild winter conditions with broken surface ice, though year-round operations are planned for the entire fleet.

The ferries are each fitted with 500kWh lithium iron phosphate battery packs that supply power to two 134kW motors. This configuration can deliver a maximum speed of 11.8 knots, a cruising speed of just under 10 knots, and a range of 150 kilometres.

Emperium said the transfer of rotation of electric motors to the propeller is carried out by direct drive. As a propulsion installation, a pulling rotary propeller-steering column with double screws is used. The installation of double pulling screws, with similar power, allows an operator to increase the efficiency of the propulsion system to deliver a slightly higher speed or to reduce energy consumption. This arrangement also provides the ferries with enhanced manoeuvrability necessary for navigating in close quarters.

The batteries themselves have projected service lives of 10 to 12 years and are fitted with safety features such as built-in fire extinguishers and gas vents. Quick-disconnect features allow the batteries to be easily removed for replacement or maintenance.

Some of our readers have expressed disquiet at our publication of reviews and articles describing new vessels from Russia. We at Baird Maritime can understand and sympathise with those views. However, despite the behaviour of the country’s leaders, we believe that the maritime world needs to learn of the latest developments in vessel design and construction there.

There's a scene in Succession, that near-Shakespearean takedown of the superrich, where eldest son Connor complains that he had to fly back “scheduled.” Family patriarch Logan Roy oozes sarcasm: “Oh, I'm sorry, son. That's really tough.” In fairness, to misquote Kate Moss, nothing tastes as good as private feels right now—especially when you're at 41,000 feet being served a menu concocted by Jean-Georges Vongerichten. The private airplane has been the poster child of elite travel ever since the original jet-setters started flying down to Acapulco, with Sinatra on the airwaves (or on board), in the 1950s. There's an eternal allure to taking off at a whim, unscheduled. Put simply: to freedom.

But recently, our idea of exclusive travel has broadened. There's an inclination to go further and deeper, to be more spontaneous and creative, with bucket lists overflowing. Since the era of social distancing, a desire to reconnect with friends and family has led to more ambitious group trips. The rise of hyper-personalization is trouncing the one-size-fits-all holiday thanks to canny travel fixers and tour operators that are threading the desire for off-menu, bespoke experiences into travel's ever-evolving DNA.

That could look like a marine safari around Lamu on a chartered private dhow with Journeys By Design or a buy-out of Venice's Palazzo Garzoni (take all four residences) or Thuwal Private Retreat in the Red Sea (take the whole island). Hotels are getting wise, adding private residences, like Rosewood London's Lincoln House and the aptly named Villa Inkognito at Oslo's Sommerro , while The Reserve at Savoy Palace in Madeira has just unveiled a hotel-within-a-hotel, complete with a personal assistant just a WhatsApp message away. And if what you crave is total solitude, save for perhaps the primates in the wilds of Gabon, experts like Pelorus can curate a bespoke expedition just for you without ever skimping on all the luxe comforts. Now that is a new style of luxury. —Rick Jordan

Cheval Blanc St-Barth comes with a dedicated butler service.

Hotels, heightened

It's no surprise that hotels are riding the private travel wave, granting guests exclusive access, bespoke experiences, and even greater privacy. Concierges are acting more like personal fixers: At J. K. Place Roma , in the 17th-century Palazzo Borghese , Giulia De Sanctis uses her connections to take visitors behind the curtain of the Italian fashion scene, from exclusive events for new collections to coveted invitations like Vogue 's Valentino shindig. Tours are getting more elaborate too. The Four Seasons Hotel Sydney can organize a private jet to the Lightning Ridge Opal Mines; the creative director of the jeweler Giulians, Gary Coffey, tags along and helps attendees craft their own one-of-a-kind piece. And beyond the presidential suite, some hotels offer secluded villas on their grounds—from the Pool Cottage House at Mallorca's Grand Hotel Son Net , complete with their own pool and garden, to the five-bedroom Villa de France with dedicated butler service at the Cheval Blanc St-Barth . And price upon request, darling.

Casino Doxi Stracca in Puglia is set on acres of vineyards and comes with multiple pools and a wine cellar.

La dolce villa

Of course, instead of a top hotel, you could just book your own estate, which offers the same level of service but allows you to go anywhere you like in your pajamas. And when it comes to these rentals, bigger is indeed better. “We've seen increased demand for our largest villas as more people bring the whole family or big groups of friends,” says Rossella Beaugié, cofounder of luxury-villa specialist The Thinking Traveller. Below, some options for a grand getaway—with or without your entourage.

Escape the island's crowds and abscond into one of two (or both) residences at sleek jungle-fringed hideaway, Casa Alma , Phuket, Thailand owned by Thai Belgian hotelier Jonathan Schmidt. Photographer and designer Zeina Aboukheir rents out her five-suite residence at Villa Zeina , Luxor, Egypt , which is overflowing with art from her travels. Don't forget the private butler and chef service. Drive through Casino Doxi Stracca 's five acres of vineyards in Puglia, Italy to this 18th-century marvel filled with amenities like multiple pools, a wine cellar, and—blessedly—air conditioning. Casa Manantial , Cartagena, Colombia is a 17th-century mansion, hidden behind an unmarked door off Plaza de Bolivar, makes for an artful city escape complete with a pool and room for up to 10.

Aman’s flagship yacht, Amandira is a custom-built sailing and diving vessel with five cabins and a crew of 14.

Ride the wave

Nothing evokes seafaring excitement quite like tall white sails, and private yachts offer that plus service and sustainability credentials. NaiSabah , a solar-powered, wind-driven traditional Omani liveaboard, traverses the mangrove and riparian forests of Kenya's Lamu Archipelago. Guest experiences include weaving with local artisans; profits help fund local conservation efforts. In Indonesian waters, hotels are operating phinisi yachts, such as the Vela , owned by Nirjhara , an eco-focused hotel in Bali ; and Aman 's five-cabin Amandira . In the world of high-end charters, heritage yachts are exerting a bigger pull than ever, like the elegant 1967 yacht Malcolm Miller , restored and available by the week through Arthaud Yachting.

Mimi Todhunter's black book include gondoliers, musicians, and antiquarians, whom she loves to gather for dinners in her Venetian palazzo.

Access is everything

For a truly bespoke trip, tap a specialist to get off-book experiences, even in familiar cities. With London-based operators True Travel, who focus on behind-the-scenes twists on the capital, this might look like a private evensong at St. Paul's Cathedral or watching the changing of the guard from inside Buckingham Palace . But don't discount the seemingly simple. “We often take people to meet an old army captain at the Grenadier pub in Belgravia,” says Henry Morley, True Travel's founder. “Just hearing amazing stories over a pint of Guinness is sometimes the thing that leaves the biggest impression.”

Locals can be the ace in the hole for specialists curating bespoke trips. “It's about booking the right people as much as the right places,” says Jules Maury, head of Scott Dunn Private. Well-connected on-the-ground fixers make the impossible possible. In Venice, that might be Mimi Todhunter, whose black book is a Venetian who's who, including gondoliers, musicians, and antiquarians, whom she loves to gather for dinners in her palazzo.

Or, for a total break from city life, head to the middle of nowhere. Red Savannah can get you on a helicopter to the Minaret Station on New Zealand's South Island , where hot tubs and tented suites at the head of a glacial Southern Alps valley await; or to The Lindis , a high-design house resembling a glassy Hobbit home from the future, hidden in the pristine Ahuriri Valley.

From helicopter airport transfers to exclusive terminals, individualized air travel is here to stay.

First class-ified

After a pandemic-induced boom in individualized air travel, it's easier than ever to build à la carte private flying experiences. For an airport transfer, take a Blade helicopter between Manhattan and JFK or Nice Côte-d'Azur and Monaco . For an entirely exclusive airport terminal , slip into the PS Private Suites at Los Angeles and Atlanta (and soon, Miami and Dallas ) and get driven directly to the plane. For the toniest of lounges, head to London Heathrow' s Windsor Suite, originally designed for the royal family and now with Jason Atherton dishes and white-glove service available to anyone prepared to pay. For a not-quite-private flight, book with Surf Air to snag spare seats on small charters all over California. Move over, ride-shares—flight-shares are here.

Private chefs like Michael Dane help take the stress out of holiday entertaining.

Along with cooking the meal, private chefs can help source the freshest local ingredients.

Fully flavored

Enlisting a private chef can help you curate a flawless evening beyond the dining room—abroad or at home. “I'm also a host,” says Michael Dane, a California-based chef who organizes events for A-list clients in Hollywood and Silicon Valley. “It's my job to make sure the lighting is set, the flowers are arranged, the scent is right.”In addition to cooking the meals, a chef might also source the best produce from area markets, translate local cuisine for clients' tastes, and meet memorably over-the-top requests. Dane says, “Once, a client rented the Houdini mansion for 500 people, and I created a living wall of cheese and charcuterie.” Elevated exclusive experiences don't have to mean stuffy formality; it's all about ease and intimacy. Having your own chef can help. As Dane puts it: “The idea is that the client doesn't have to worry about a thing.”

Solo sightings

For so long, safaris were a communal affair, but in recent years, game-ready private houses have come into their own. Here are the movement's pioneers. House in the Wild, Kenya is a seven-lodge compound tucked into a lush bend of the Mara River is owned by Tarquin and Lippa Wood, founders of the surrounding Enonkishu Conservancy . After lunch, grab a swinging bed on the riverbank and watch the hippos wallowing nearby. Atop a granite outcropping that overlooks the ochre terrain of Damaraland, Onduli Enclave, Namibia addition to Onduli Ridge is composed of three exclusive-use stilted suites that come with their own guide, butler, and chef, and even an airstrip for aerial transfers.

Dug directly into the landscape like an eco–Bond lair, Melote House, South Africa is a high-design lodge that sits in South Africa's rhino-friendly Lapalala Wilderness reserve , fully staffed for game drives, boat cruises, and spa treatments available at your leisure. Singita Milele, Tanzania are five suites that sit on a prime wildebeest migration outlook in Tanzania's iconic Grumeti Reserve . For winding down after daily drives, this villa has a movie room, a stocked wine cellar, and an infinity pool with a view of the Serengeti plains.

You fly for hours, anticipating your arrival, wanting to take in the area and the views of another country far away from your departure airport. The airport and the area you leave from is detailed and visually full, and you know you have a great airport scenery waiting for you at the other end of the flight, then when you arrive...

...  Nothing, but flat plain emptiness and the same boring standard X-Plane basic scenery, worse there is no OSM (Open Street Map) data in the tile either, so there is no road or autogen detailing in there as well, just well nothing.

When Drzewiecki Design released their UUEE Sheremetyevo Airport XP , I loved it because it was like a visitor from the Cold War past, the Soviet era, and it was also great scenery and great choice of a destination to fly to from any of the capitals of Europe...  but that was it, just this great airport in the middle of nothingness, bland....   zero ville.

Moscow old.jpg

Now Drzewiecki Design has released "Moscow City"  a scenery package to compliment their UUEE Sheremetyevo, and boy how much a difference this release has done to this totally boring area.

To get the full first impression effect I flew JARDesign's A320neo from EFHK Vatnaa, Helsinki to UUEE Sheremetyevo which is flight Finnair AY153 which is a daily 9.25am service.

Moscow City_ Dep Vatnaa 1.jpg

First Impressions

I was surprised to start picking up scenery still quite away out from central Moscow, as I approached my 6000ft transition altitude. Here there was buildings and houses and the physical visual notes you were arriving somewhere.

Moscow City_ Dep arrival 1.jpg

Looking hard at the horizon through the A320's windows and you could see the iconic silhouette of Moscow city.

Moscow City_ Dep arrival 5.jpg

The scenery provides lite versions of all Moscow's Airports, this is UUWW Vnukovo, which was easily recognisable as you flew over. As you fly closer to the centre of the city the density of the objects below becomes quite heavy as the landscape fills in. You have all kinds of infrastructure including, blocks of flats, tower blocks, factories, housing, skyscrapers and almost everything that makes up an urban landscape, in all there is 2000 custom-made buildings that makes up this impressive scenery.

A note here in that you don't get that rolling as you move feeling effect where as it just suddenly appears in front of you and then quickly disappears behind as soon as you have flown out over the area. There is a slight effect of that as there has to be, but only in the far distance and as you can see from the images the views in every direction are widespread and visually it is very good to excellent.

The "Seven Sisters" or "Stalinist skyscrapers" built from 1947 to 1953 are all in the scenery with their "Wedding Cake" architecture or officially  Russian Baroque               - Gothic style. Most famous is the Moscow State University, front and centre of the image below.

Moscow City_ Dep arrival LG 16.jpg

Central Moscow is excellent and extremely realistic, and you really need a travel guide to pick out the landmarks and detail, but it is hard to miss the Red Kremlin complex  and St Peter's square from the air.  Both sides of the aircraft is visually full until you have crossed right over the city.

Moscow City_ Dep arrival 7.jpg

I am not a fan of the generated 3d OSM scenery, but this is very good in blending in perfectly with the X-Plane default scenery and giving you a smooth transition from country to urban and back again with great realism.

Moscow City_ Dep arrival 14.jpg

Over the city and turning north towards Sheremetyevo, another Moscow airport UUMU Chkalovsky is represented on the turn.

Moscow City_ Dep arrival 17.jpg

The city skyline is now easily visible on landing at Sheremetyevo, and that really helps in the arrival factor, more so in that the cities building infrastructure spread now comes up and around the airport to fill the gaps to the city itself, and making the original  Sheremetyevo scenery that was so open and lonely in the old X-Plane view is now a big part of the whole in this combination. No doubt it really brings this always good scenery now alive and very usable.

Moscow City_ Dep arrival 19.jpg

Sheremetyevo Airport

Before we move on to the city itself. It is important to note the area around UUEE Sheremetyevo itself.

Moscow Sheremetyevo 1.jpg

Compare the large image above to the earlier image at the start of this review to see the amount of change there is around UUEE Sheremetyevo with the addition of this Moscow City package. The two sceneries are of course meant to be used together, and in reality it would look odd if you had Moscow City scenery installed without the Sheremetyevo scenery included to fill out the northern areas. A highlight is that both sceneries together form a single whole, as the areas between the airport and the central city area are well filled in and that gives you a huge area of coverage and the full visual aspect.

To get a closer lower look at the Moscow Center I commandeered Dreamfoil's lovely Bell 407.

Moscow Buildings 1.jpg

There is a 4.000km² total area covered with this scenery here, and you have expect some sort of building replication to cover all that ground. There is of course but as well in the fact there is also enough variations as to not keep it all interesting and not obviously visually obvious.

Moscow Buildings 2.jpg

The closer you go to the central area, the variations in the buildings change there in style and density as well. And then more of the iconic buildings start to appear as you get closer in again to the middle. The business district is excellent, with a lot of business towers and the more modern futuristic skyscraper architecture that stands out in every view point in eye scans across the city.

Moscow Buildings 5.jpg

The more recent is in tune with the more older Stalinist era that makes up the Moscow skyline.

The Kremlin Complex and the Cathedral of Vasily the Blessed (St Basil's) is excellently represented and so is "Red Square"

Moscow Buildings 10.jpg

There are Orthodox churches everywhere and all the big icons in the Moscow Cathedral Mosque, Cathedral of Christ the Savior, Grand Arena of the Central Lenin Stadium, Otkrytive Arena and department stores, museums and power stations and more....

I did have issues with many buildings floating, including the Kremlin. I tried both "Runways follow terrain contours" on and off with no flattening of the objects and there is no information in the manual either on how to fix the problem.

Night lighting is very good, yes there is again a repeatable pattern to the majority of the hundreds of the apartment blocks that does stand out, but the more individual buildings do all have that personal touch and some buildings look really very good.

Moscow Buildings Night 1.jpg

The highlight here is the business district which looks magnificent and is very realistic from any direction at night as is the lit Stadium.

Moscow Buildings Night 3.jpg

Although away from the central area the Ostankino Tower that stands 540.1 metres (1,772 ft) tall, and is the tallest freestanding structure in Europe and it looks great at night and is a very good position indicator from the air from any direction.

Included Moscow Airports

As noted also included in the scenery are seven airports and several helipads.

UUWW Vnukovo

Moscow UUWW Vnukovo 1.jpg

The futuristic Vnukovo International is very good for a lite version, with great terminals and lots of small detailing. Only thing missing is the static aircraft and a bit more ramp equipment, but otherwise it is highly usable.

UUDD Domodedovo

Moscow UUDD Domodedovo 1.jpg

The oldest of Moscow's International airports is Domodedovo. Again it is quite devoid of static aircraft and I am not crazy about the blue terminal glass work, but it is still a very workable scenery to use and has a lot of well made objects.

UUBW Zhukovsky

Moscow UUBW Zhukovsky 1.jpg

Zhukovsky was a major aircraft testing facility since the  cold war years, with most of the major Russian Experimental Design Bureau's having facilities here. It is also now used by the Ministry of Emergency Situations! and cargo carriers. It was also used as a test site for the Soviet Buran  reusable Spacecraft because it has the world's second longest pubic runway at at 5,402 m (17,723 ft). Mostly it is a collection of very large hangars but has a lot of static aircraft in storage.

UUMO Ostafyevo International Business Airport

Moscow UUMo Ostafyevo 1.jpg

A former military airbase. Ostafyevo features a new modern glass terminal, and caters primarily to business aviation.

UUMU Chkalovsky

Moscow UUMU Chkalovsky 1.jpg

Chkalovsky is a military logistics airport that is famous for it's support for the Russian Space program and transport to Star City and the Yuri A. Gagarin State Scientific Research-and-Testing Cosmonaut Training Center. Yuri Gagarin left here on his final flight before crashing by the town of Kirzhach.

UUBM Myachkovo Airport

Moscow UUBM Myachkovo 1.jpg

Myachkovo is a small General Aviation Airport that is owned by the Finpromko company. Cargo aircraft up to the size of the Ilyushin ll-76 freighter can also use the airport.

UUMB Kubinka

Moscow UUMB Kubinka 1.jpg

Kubinka has been a significant Russian military airbase and large airshows are held here to show off the Russian military might.

There is also provided UUU1 Kremlin Airport, within the Kremlin walls, but I couldn't get it to work? There are two pads in H1 and H2.

Your first thoughts after reviewing this excellent Moscow scenery is not with this actual package. You then wish that you could have this extensive scenery at London, Rome, Madrid, Berlin and the list could go on with any of your favorite European Cities, and don't count a load in the Middle East and Asia. But a London scenery like this would certainly be a godsend in our X-Plane world. Drzewiecki Design has already done Warsaw and Manhattan, so there is always hope.

It is not cheap either and you need to add in their UUEE Sheremetyevo scenery package on top of that as well. But you get an awful lot of ground covered here for your money, with the area covered here that is extensive...  huge and flying into Moscow will never be the same again.

A few areas to note in one that in my case a few of the buildings floated, the download is huge load at 1.4gb and this Russian area is not the best for navigation aids and programming FMS units as most waypoints are not recognised. Most of the airports ILS coordinates also have to checked and recalibrated (Drzewiecki Design do provide all the correct coordinates) so there is a little work to do to set up repeat services but the work is worth the results.

Not only is the actual Moscow city and all it's buildings supported, you also get seven (if lite versions) of Moscow's other airports included as well, but the framerate processing of all this huge amount of objects and scale is pretty good to excellent. Framerate does hurt more on a lower (helicopter) level and certainly you need a computer with a little extra power is in no doubt required, but overall for the size of the area the scenery is extremely efficient.

Yes I was impressed by this Moscow City Scenery, as this once very barren area of X-Plane is now a very attractive repeat destination as nothing can give you a greater fulfilment than seeing your destination appear in the distance and then give you a huge visual experience as you fly over and approach your destination.

Moscow City certainly delivers that and more...  Just more sceneries like this please!

Thank you for this very thorough (as always) review. I just bought it (it's on sale) and have only one disappointment so far: Red Square has no ILS or any landing aids at all for that matter. And what a nightmare of an approach! Also I was hoping the package would include an add-on that gives my c172 a big cup holder for my Stoli. Otherwise the scenery is gorgeous. What a country!

This project is part of the thriving Moscow City, a mixed-use district centrally located within the sprawling Russian metropolis and loosely based on London’s Canary Wharf and Paris’s La Défense. The complex will consist of an 85-story skyscraper and a 49-story office tower connected at the base by a transparent crystalline structure. The massive development includes luxury residences, premium office space, a four-star hotel, parking, and extensive green space.

The elegant towers gradually taper away from each other as they stretch upward, with glass curtain walls that possess varying degrees of translucency, clarity, and reflectivity. A new private road bisects the site, creating a pedestrian promenade with access to both towers. Landscaped paths and plazas knit together the buildings, shops, and restaurants.

A continuous strip of parkland and plazas along the project’s southern edge provides a much-needed amenity for the increasingly high-density zone. The greenway — the only one in Moscow City — offers generous drop-off areas for the residential tower and hotel, as well as pocket groves of indigenous trees and open lawns for public use.
