Inside Sanlorenzo's 64m flagship superyacht Attila
Sanlorenzo had a lot of family-friendly features to pack into this 64 Steel. Clever design gave them the space to do so with style and grace, says Sam Fortescue
It used to be so simple. If you wanted a yacht with more space, you had to build longer. These days, though, superyacht designers are finding increasingly ingenious ways to squeeze every last cubic centimetre from their creations. And Sanlorenzo’s flagship is at the leading edge of this trend. From the helipad and the wellness centre to the wine cellar and the oversized beach club, the 64 Steel Attila punches well above her weight.
A quick dip into the archives gives a frame of reference. Silver Angel , a 64.5 metre Benetti from 2009, measures up at 1,407GT, while 1991 Shahnaz , by Nuovi Cantieri Liguri , is 63.5 metres and just creeps over 1,130GT. Most modern yachts of this length range between 1,200 and 1,400GT. By contrast, Attila’s 64.25 metres, her broad beam of 13 metres and five decks offer a lavish 1,600 gross tonnes. That’s the kind of space you find on a significantly bigger boat – take 73 metre Hasna , with its 1,577GT.
“The customer wanted as much interior space as possible,” says Sergio Beretta, from exterior designer Officina Italiana , of Attila’s Argentinian owner. “We didn’t initially agree with that – it’s always a compromise.” On the owner’s wish list was copious meat and wine storage, extensive cinema facilities, an entire deck for him and his wife, plus stowage for a 10-metre tender and a vast beach club area.
The design teams had to think creatively about the use of space on board. Most striking is the way that the 78-square-metre beach club, complete with two fold-down balconies, hammam and sauna, connects to the large outdoor area on the main deck, which focuses on the five-metre-long swimming pool .
“The aspect that has characterised this yacht has been the wish to provide continuity between the beach club and an area we could call the al fresco veranda; that is, the rear part of the main deck where the pool is also located, passing through an impressive stairway,” says Antonio Santella, vice president of sales and marketing at Sanlorenzo Superyacht Division. The pool has a glass bottom and sheds dappled light in the beach club below.
Equally striking is the way the interior part of the beach club connects to the main saloon via an open marble-lined staircase that splits halfway and becomes a double-height space, with 4.6-metre ceiling heights towering above it. Reminiscent of a sweeping 19th-century staircase , it is more than just a way to get upstairs. “It gives an impression of extra space, of course: all that emotion when you enter,” says Beretta.
The client is an experienced owner and in fact already has a Sanlorenzo 46 Steel, delivered in 2012. “He’s just reversing the digits,” jokes Santella. This means that he knows yard owner Massimo Perotti well and had a very clear idea of what he wanted from the off. The official launch of the boat, with some 400 guests, felt more like a wedding than anything else, complete with speeches, bear hugs and tears all round. “I’ve known Massimo Perotti for years now and having built my last boat with him and his team, [I knew] the trust was already well placed,” the owner says. “I knew that Sanlorenzo would be able to build the yacht of my dreams.”
Uppermost in his design brief was that the boat should be optimised for family use – it should be more than just a symbol of success or a place to do business . That’s why the size of the beach club was non-negotiable; why there had to be room for two tenders , including a 10-metre limo and an eight-metre sports tender; and why there are no fewer than five giant television screens on board, including two in the owner’s suite.
“He likes to watch movies with his family and friends and talk about what they watched together,” explains Francesco Paszkowski , who designed the interior in co-operation with Margherita Casprini . “His requirements were clear from the very beginning: a cosy and welcoming atmosphere showing understated elegance. Aiming at enjoying time on board together with his family and friends, large shared areas where he could feel at home while on board were also fundamental.”
The attention paid to dining and food preparation areas is also a key part of this philosophy. Each deck features a dedicated dining space – only the beach club is table-free, but even here there is a large marble-topped bar and easy chairs for relaxing with a drink or a snack.
“A real challenge for the production team was the creation of an enormous barbecue in the dining area of the main deck, a request which was particularly connected to the nationality of the ship owner,” says Santella. “The arrangement of an open fire in an enclosed space in fact required the use of A60 fireproof stainless steel and the installation of an advanced smoke removal system.” It will be used for grilling meat and teppanyaki cooking.
The food focus extends right down into the tank deck, where there is a Marquina marble-lined meat storage room and a 500-bottle climate-controlled wine cellar. “He thinks time spent together during lunch or dinner can be unforgettable,” explains Paszkowski.
Similarly, the galleys and pantries had to be well equipped and comfortable. “Skilled cooks are important, and crew must enjoy time while cooking. The galley must be a pleasant space to work in,” says Paszkowski. “Crew members should feel good and free to move at ease between decks while working.” Besides the 18 crew berths, they have access to their own dedicated multimedia room on the tank deck.
The challenge set to the design teams was to accommodate all these features, and yet come up with a yacht that felt “contemporary and sober”. Sanlorenzo has been smart by using simple, elegant lines, and perhaps it is this restraint that best describes the brand’s design language.
That and touches such as the sleek windows and the large infinity pool on the main deck – a feature that has already been used on the smaller 52Steel with good results. “Clear, coherent, appealing. This is the force of our timeless projects that are always up to date,” says Santella. “We are focused on blending tradition and innovation with intelligence."
The exterior offers numerous different social areas, from the upper saloon spa pool to the beach club balconies. And yet, Sanlorenzo admits that the key to this boat is more about what happens inside than outside. “The balance sees the interior winning, as we accomplished the wishes of the owner to have such huge interior volumes,” says Santella.
It gave Paszkowski a broad canvas on which to deliver a tough brief. He came up with the term “modern South American” to describe the style of the interior. It relies overwhelmingly on natural materials, including fine Nabuk leathers, a range of six marbles and warm teak for stairs and floors. There’s a dash of crocodile leather in the headboard of the owner’s bed, lacquered panels overhead in the corridors and wallpaper used elsewhere. The furniture was mostly sourced from Italian brands, including Baxter, Minotti and Maxalto, including low cream sofas. A few pieces, including the dining tables, were specifically designed by Paszkowski.
The art on board has a quirky feel to it. In the more private upper saloon, a quizzical-looking golden gorilla surveys diners from his alcove. A more thoughtful piece has been positioned at the foot of that striking staircase in the main atrium. Facing each other across the stairs are two bronze casts – on the left, a heroic figure of a man struggling through the wall, with just his torso and a knee showing through; on the right, the same man pauses on his way back through the wall – just the rippling muscles of his back showing. And above the main dining table, a series of golden lily leaves unfurl, with fine copper piping for a flower stem and a glowing LED at the tip. Made by Catellani & Smith, they are beautiful without being showy. All were sourced by Paszkowski and chosen by the owner.
In the end, Sanlorenzo and the designers have succeeded in pulling off a remarkable trick. They have crammed a great deal of space and a world of different experiences into a lean and fair-looking boat. It ensures that, like her notorious namesake, Attila has powers and abilities beyond her apparent dimensions.

ATTILA yacht interior
Designed by Francesco Paszkowski and Margherita Casprin, the interior reflects the owner’s South American heritage.
It uses natural materials like teak, leather, and natural stone to create a warm and inviting atmosphere.
A private owner’s suite, three doubles, and one twin accommodate 12 guests.
There is accommodation for 18 crew members, who also have a media room to themselves on the tank deck.
The owner is passionate about food and movies, so extensive movie facilities, a wine cellar, and a meat storage pantry complement the dining areas throughout the yacht.
There is a barbecue pit in the main deck dining area for Asado, a traditional Argentenian dish.
There is a sauna, steam bath, and massage room that guests can use and then dip in the ocean thanks to the 3-way opening beach club.
The beach club creates a stylish indoor/outdoor area and extends the 64m(209.97ft) yacht to 78m(255.91 ft).
There is storage for a 10m limousine tender and many water toys like jet skis.
Elegant windows, an infinity pool, and a touch-and-go helipad are all features of the ATTILA yacht.
At the time of her launch in 2019, she was the flagship of the Sanlorenzo Steel Line due to her unique design of 64m(209.97ft) and above-average gross tonnage.
She was built in their shipyard in Italy.
The exterior was designed by Officina Italian Design and Sanlorenzo Style Division.
She is constructed with a steel hull and aluminum superstructure, giving her a modern and inviting appearance.
The yacht has won multiple awards for its innovation and design.
Sanlorenzo is relatively new to metal boat building, so the execution of ATTILA was a great accomplishment for them.

Sanlorenzo’s Biggest-Ever Superyacht … By Far: Attila The Fun
More than three times the volume of Sanlorenzo’s previous flagship, the first 64Steel is more notable for its stunning beach club and pool.
Some yacht layouts are so predictable that you could practically walk through the boat with your eyes closed and still find your way around. But in recent years, more designers and builders are breaking the mould and creating something else entirely, which is what Sanlorenzo has done with its new flagship, the 64Steel Attila.
The first 64Steel has a helipad and a volume of 1,600GT, so was a huge step up for the Argentine owner, whose previous yacht was a Sanlorenzo 46Steel; Photos: ©Guillaume Plisson for Sanlorenzo
A superyacht with a unique layout customised to suit her owner’s lifestyle, the 64.25m Attila is the largest yacht to emerge from the Italian builder, by some way. It’s 12m longer than the 52Steel Seven Sins and at 1,600GT, more than three times the volume of the builder’s 499GT former flagship.
The Attila owner’s previous boat was the Sanlorenzo 46Steel, Achilles . The first 64Steel represents not just a step up in size for this owner and her builder but also in scope. She brims with creative ideas and big- ticket amenities that you would expect to find on a much larger yacht.
Attila offers beautiful outdoor social areas on five decks
With bold exterior lines by Officina Italia Design and a striking silver hull, Attila is certainly a head-turner. Interior design and decor are by Francesco Paszkowski and Margherita Casprini, who worked in concert with the owner and Sanlorenzo to create the calm interior motif and unusual layout.
SUMMER LIVING
The moment you enter Attila , you can tell she is different. The owner’s idea was to get rid of a formal main saloon and create a way for everyone to be connected as they enjoyed the yacht throughout day. “Who is using a big saloon in a boat?” says the owner of Attila . “They are not. In the end, in the summer, you are outside.”
“Who is using a big saloon? In the summer, you are outside.”
Stepping into the main-deck living area, you have to take a moment to get your bearings. Instead of a foyer or saloon, you enter directly into the dining room, which is anything but a formal affair.
The first thing you see upon entering this room is dual staircases to port and starboard, leading to the expansive beach club below, which is bathed in light from the glass-bottom pool above on the main deck aft. Sliding glass doors open on both sides of the dining room to let in fresh air.
The garage door folds down to open up the beach club, which includes sofas and rooms below the main-deck swimming pool
“This is unique,” says Antonio Santella, Sanlorenzo’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “We have this connection between the pool, al fresco veranda, dining area and beach club. People are not divided into different groups. They are all together.”
ARGENTINE GRILL
A 10-seat wood dining table, backed by a bar and a huge grill, consumes the room. Placing a barbecue inside the yacht’s living spaces – essentially inviting open fire onto the main deck – was no easy task. It challenged the yard to find creative solutions, which emerged with the use of A60 fireproof stainless steel as well as installing a special system to remove smoke.
The pool on the aft main deck leads into the main dining room; Attila also has a large pool on the aft main deck and a jacuzzi on the sun deck
This barbecue is just one of the elements that speaks to her owner’s Argentine origins and love for grilling meat. Another is the copious, dedicated meat storage found on board – during my visit I was shown 450kg of meat stored on the tank deck.
With her enormous volume and 13.1m beam – wider than most yachts of her length – Attila has the room to pack in all of her owner’s special requests as well as amenities you’d usually find on larger yachts.
“All the design ideas you see in this boat are typical of boats 90m and over, and we are only 64m,” Santella says. “This was the goal: to give something more and be similar to a 90m or 100m boat.”
The main dining room has seating for 12
This includes items such as a touch-and-go helipad, storage for two big 10m-plus tenders, and a 78sqm beach club with a gym, sauna and massage room.
Another big-boat goal, according to Santella, was to have all the guest living spaces on the main deck. There are four double cabins and one master-worthy VIP on the main deck that any guest would feel lucky to have. To achieve this layout, the only ‘saloon’ on the main deck is a cosy cinema lounge.
The lounge and dining area on the upper deck or bridge deck
A larger, but still cosy, saloon is found on the upper or bridge deck, adjacent to another dining area for 14. This deck also houses the Captain’s cabin and a cabin for a nanny or staff member, while the bridge is forward, enjoying excellent sight lines.
OWNER’S HAVEN
The deck above is a space completely dedicated to the owner, as per his exacting brief. “The main characteristic of this boat is the fact that the owner wanted to have a full deck completely private for him,” Santella says.
The owner’s deck features a spacious lounge
This palatial suite includes a large en-suite bathroom, walk-in wardrobe and a forward-facing bedroom opening out onto a private terrace with a pool.
Aft on this deck is a private living room opening onto an outdoor lounge area. It’s the ideal personal space for an owner who says he plans to use the boat “as much as possible.”
Between Attila ’s delivery and world premiere at last year’s Monaco Yacht Show, he had already used his new boat for three months.
The forward master suite has a large bed that enjoys an open view
The owner loves to be outside, but if he happens to be stuck inside more than he likes, the calming yet cool interior should be a pleasure in which to spend time. The designers wanted to create something that was modern yet timeless, choosing a soothing palette of grey, white and brown and a plethora of natural materials.
The interior is replete in marble, backlit onyx, glass, stainless steel and teak, the owner’s favourite wood. Furnishings come from Italian brands like Flexform sofas and Catellani & Smith light fixtures, while Summit has provided suitably chic exterior furniture.
Stunning night view of the swimming pool on the owner’s deck
Sanlorenzo admits that building this owner-specific, technically intrinsic yacht was a challenge, but it’s one they relished.
“Every boat for us is a challenge,” says Santella. “We don’t build a boat without innovation. On every Sanlorenzo boat, there is something different from all the others.”
Sanlorenzo Asia Secures Five Sales in Five Months
For those who want to push the envelope even further, the technical platform of the 64Steel is designed to extended up 70m. Perhaps this owner, after he’s had plenty of time to chill and grill on his new yacht, will be ready to go even bigger yet.
Attila proves that the sky’s the limit for what an innovative yard, designers and owner can create when they combine forces.

Sanlorenzo’s Largest Superyacht
- By Kim Kavin
- Updated: September 18, 2020
When Sanlorenzo Yachts in Italy set out to build its largest-ever yacht, the 64Steel Attila , it turned to two of the nation’s most respected design teams for help. Officina Italiana Design, which has worked with Sanlorenzo as well as with Riva Yachts, was tapped for the 64Steel’s exterior lines. For the interior, Sanlorenzo went to Francesco Paszkowski and Margherita Casprini, who have worked with Sanlorenzo as well as Tankoa, ISA, Baglietto, Custom Line and CRN.
The result is a superyacht with innovative features, not the least of which is a barbecue inside the dining area on the main deck. The owner, an Argentine entrepreneur who commissioned the Sanlorenzo 46Steel Achille for delivery in 2012, wanted the ability to cook over open flames in the enclosed space. The shipyard made his dream a reality, using A60 fireproof stainless steel and an advanced smoke-removal system.
An entire deck on the five-deck yacht is reserved for the owner’s use, with the master’s bed facing the bow, as well as a private hot tub outside. The decor highlights natural teak as a primary material, with glass, fabric, backlit onyx and steel accents. White, gray and brown make up the entire yacht’s color scheme.
A full-beam VIP and four additional guest staterooms are on the main deck, with quarters for 18 crew belowdecks. There’s an elevator to the crew level for transferring stores, along with refrigerated compartments, a laundry facility and a climate-controlled, 500-bottle wine cellar.
According to Sanlorenzo, Attila has a top speed of 17 knots with her twin Caterpillar 3516C engines. That should be plenty of power for showing her off from Portofino to Sardinia, or anywhere beyond Italy her owner chooses to cruise with her next.

If your new flagship shares the name of one of the world’s most ferocious warriors, it had better pack a punch. From all angles, Attila appears to be a knockout. The steel brute from Italian shipyard Sanlorenzo spans a remarkable 200 feet and weighs a hefty 1,600 gross tons. That’s more than enough superyacht to rival the infamous Hun.
Officially the largest vessel the yard has ever produced, Attila delivers a powerful one-two punch of size and sophistication. With an exterior by Officina Italiana Design , the yacht sports elegant lines and artfully connects all five of its decks to give dual impressions of grace and flow.

A well-positioned double staircase links the aft cockpit with the beach club below to ensure that seafarers can split their time between the areas. The main deck features an expansive pool and alfresco dining area, with an open-fire barbecue, the perfect trio for those who want to socialize. The beach club, meanwhile, is all about relaxation. It boasts a sauna, hammam, massage room and gym, not to mention generous open space, thanks to foldout sides and the large swim platform at the transom.
Guillaume Plisson/Sanlorenzo Yachts
Inside, Attila is opulent but refined, in a way that only an Italian designer can accomplish. Furnished and decorated by Francesco Paszkowski and Margherita Casprini , the space brings together high-end materials, like teak and steel, with a tasteful palette of white, grey and brown. The furniture is either custom or comes courtesy of the finest designer firms—think Summit, De Sede, Flexform and Catellani & Smith. To top it off, backlit onyx and contemporary sculptures give the yacht a few extra style points.
The yacht sleeps 12 people across four guest rooms, full-beam VIP suite and the owner’s suite which comes with its own whirlpool bath on the adjoining deck. Of course, guests will have full access to the five-star amenities, including the helipad—which doubles as a solarium—two tenders, a 500-room wine cellar and a multimedia room.
Powered by twin 2,375hp Caterpillar 3516C engines, Attila can hit a top speed of 17 knots. Of course, there’s little need to rush when you’re aboard such a dream machine.

With the 64Steel Attila, Sanlorenzo launched its most prestigious and imposing flagship; a spacious and welcoming 210ft long vessel that offers a prestigious level of volume and on-board social life that has never been seen before in a 1,600 GRT yacht.
At 1,600 gross tons, 64 meters of length, five decks and an internal maximum width of 12.5 meters, 64Steel Attila is the largest yacht that Sanlorenzo has produced so far. The Italian shipyard introduced an innovative layout with elegant exterior lines and structures which maximize onboard livability.
Key Features
The Main Deck at the stern and the Beach Club on the Lower Deck surely represent the most distinctive areas of the project. A strong hallmark of design and layout is the double stairway that connects the pool and dining area to the Beach Club equipped with a sauna, hammam, massage room, and gym, right at the waterline. With the bow mirror and the side platforms open, the Beach Club covers an area of 78 square meters.
“The most important aspect that has characterized yatcht’s concept has been the will to obtain continuity between the beach club and an area we could call an “al fresco” veranda, that is the rear part of the Main Deck where the pool is also located, passing along an impressive stairway. The idea behind the layout in fact enables us to integrate the main aft deck and the beach club as much as possible. This characteristic thus enables us to enjoy both areas, around which the social life on board is focused, simultaneously, without separating the guests.” Antonio Santella, Vice President Sales & Marketing, Sanlorenzo Superyacht Division
The indisputable Flagship of Sanlorenzo’s superyachts “Steel” line with a fast displacement hull, the 64Steel offers various stylistic features that distinguish the prototype/design from other boats of the same size:
- the ability to reserve an entire deck to the ship owner, the Owner Deck, which includes the bedroom facing the bow, which has a large whirlpool bath on the outside;
- the ability to load two big tenders of over 10 meters in length which can also be limousine tenders, thanks to the garage’s height, as found in yachts over 80 meters long.
- the maximum internal beam is 12.5 meters large, also typical of a yacht over 70 meters long;
- the helipad for touch and go, at the bow, which can be turned into an extraordinary solarium when not in use.
- the 64Steel platform was designed to be extended from 64 to 70 meters to satisfy varying requests.
“Yachts come to life from ideas. These are the ones that gave birth to Attila, our 64 meter yacht, our flagship.” Antonio Santella
A real challenge for the production team was the creation of an enormous barbecue in the dining area of the main deck, a request which was particularly connected to the nationality of the owner, an Argentine entrepreneur who was already a Sanlorenzo client with the 46Steel Achilles delivered in 2012 and was closely involved with the planning and construction of the new yacht from the beginning. The arrangement of an open fire in an enclosed space in fact required the use of A60 fireproof stainless steel and the installation of an advanced smoke removal system.
The crew, located in the Lower Deck, has private and independent routes with two service stairs and an elevator for the rapid transfer of cold and dry goods into the storage rooms. Below the Lower Deck, lies the Tank Deck with a refrigeration chamber, a refrigerated waste room, a multimedia room for the crew, a large laundry, and a climate-controlled “wine cellar” with a capacity of up to 500 bottles.
The four guest rooms and the full beam VIP suite are located on the Main Deck.
The yacht has been awarded with the “Best Design Trophy” at the Cannes 2019 World Yacht Trophies Gala Dinner, considered as the Oscars in the yachting industry.

Sanlorenzo 64 Steel Attila
Superyacht 66-Summer-2020
With an LOA of more than 64 metres, a beam of over 13 and with a gross tonnage of 2,600 GT, “Attila” is not only Sanlorenzo’s flag ship but is also the largest yacht ever built by an Italian shipyard.
The Sanlorenzo 64 Steel “Attila” represents another memorable goal the brand has reached. This will most certainly be entered in this shipyard’s timeline. “Attila” the largest off the chocks from the company’s shipyards has been developed thanks also to the excellent work carried out by Sanlorenzo with the preceding 46 Steel yacht “Achille” which was delivered to the owner in 2012. The owner was so impressed with the high qualitative standard the shipyard had attained that he returned to Sanlorenzo to have his new yacht drawn up. The owner collaborated with all of the in house team, to draw up the project design he wanted on this 64 metre with precious contribution from Francesco Paszkowski Design for the interiors, and Officina Italiana design studios that drew up Attila’s exteriors.
Original video by Simpson Marine
The in house team taking part in the project was Sanlorenzo’s Ufficio Stile with Officina Italiana Design who also worked closely together to deliver continuity between the cockpit’s lounge area aft in the stern with pools, dining areas and beach club situated on the lower deck giving way to an elegant stairway which links both areas as a single communicating one. The beach club comprising the transom and two lateral sides when opened out offer a surface area of 78 square metres in which there’s space enough for a sauna, a hammam, a massage parlour and gym. The cockpit’s dining area has been equipped with an enormous barbecue as requested by the owner as well, a difficult task to accomplish but it was solved by deploying A60 stainless which is fire proof and a ground breaking fumes extractor.
The 64 Steel platform originally intended to reach 70 metres in fact it is therefore not surprisingly beamier than the norm which translates in the availability of more interior volumes which further a sense of space. Francesco Paszkowski and Margherita Casprini oversaw the interiors and decor. Their know- how and creativity furthered the sense of available space even more so by using glazed bulkheads and fine materials releasing depth in a three dimensional manner. While backlit onyx offers a warm and welcoming effect where steel is expertly deployed in connection with several materials which blend the dominating colours made up of white, gray and brown hues. Some of Attila’s decor was ‘made to measure’ but furniture from Summit, De Sede, Flexform and Castellani & Smith was used also.
A whole deck is dedicated to the owner which comprises a large suite with ocean view, private terrace and water-massage tub. Four guest cabins as well as the full beam VIP suite are situated along the main deck while the crew’s quarters have been distributed along the lower one which is accessed via reserved passages and independent corridors, as well as two service stairs by which to transfer cold storage goods quickly into the appropriate stocking places. These are installed along the tank deck which offers a ‘cool’ room for waste and highly refrigerated deep freeze cellars, a crew mess room with multimedia entertainment gear and a wine cellar with room enough for 500 bottles.
In addition to a touch and go helipad installed forward in Attila’s bow section which converts into a very appropriate and delightful sun bathing spot and garage for a tender and service boat or whatever other combination of water craft not exceeding ten metres.

Sanlorenzo’s Biggest-Ever Superyacht … By Far: Attila The Fun
- June 10, 2020

The idea between the layout in fact enables us to integrate the main aft deck and beach club as much as possible. This characteristic thus enables us to enjoy both areas, around which the social life on board if focused without separating the guests.
64 Steel Attila’s new owner commented, “In my private and company life, I like to deal with the same people. Building a yacht is a commercial proposition, but it’s also a question of trust.
