A General Description of Motor Yacht BLUE MOON
The work of the The Feadship Royal Van Lent Shipyard yard in the Netherlands the BLUE MOON is 60 m 198 (foot) in length. Completed by 2005 the recent internal styling confirms the integrity of the design work of Donald Starkey Designs. Superyacht BLUE MOON is able to accommodate up to 12 passengers with 14 qualified crew. She will attain a maximum speed of 16 knots.
Super yacht BLUE MOON was the second yacht built at Royal Van Lent for the same Feadship owner who has had extensive experience in yachting and is at the forefront of new developments in the yachting industry. In the mid-1990s the owner chartered a Feadship yacht called MI GAEA which he bought soon after and renamed BLUE MOON – he then commissioned the second Blue Moon – launched in 2000 which was the largest aluminium Feadship ever built at the time. The third Blue Moon was commissioned in 2002 with a brief for a sleeker yacht with more accommodation. The owner also wanted more functions and be comfortable in colder climates to enable the exploration of more remote sailing areas. BLUE MOONS profile has a flared bow combined with contemporary touches such as the semi-circular extensions with glass bulwarks on the sun and bridge deck aft.
Construction & Naval Architecture for Luxury Yacht BLUE MOON
De Voogt Naval Architects was the naval architect firm involved in the technical nautical design work for BLUE MOON. Also the company De Voogt Naval Architects and Donald Starkey Designs expertly worked on this project. The material steel was used in the building of the hull of the motor yacht. Her superstructure over the hull is fashioned out of aluminium. In 2008 extra refitting and updating was in addition performed.

Quick Enquiry
“The way we design, is we design fully custom, fully unique yachts, we start with a blank piece of paper and we start asking the client how they use the boat, what they want to do on board, what kind of experience they have but we also want input on what kind of styling they like... It’s about getting to learn about the owner and how they want to use the boat.” - Ronno Schouten, Design Manager of De Voogt Naval Architects

BLUE MOON Yacht for Sale
The 198-foot (60.35m) Feadship superyacht BLUE MOON was built by famed Dutch yacht builder Feadship. Launched from the Van Lent shipyard, BLUE MOON hit the water in 2005. This remarkable custom-built yacht features interior and exterior design by Donald Starkey and Lee Perot. An exemplary example of Feadship quality, BLUE MOON has won a variety of awards since her launch, including “Best full-displacement motor yacht over 56 meters” at the 2006 ShowBoats Awards, “Star of the Show” at the 2005 Monaco Yacht Show and a World Yachts World Trophy for yachts between 150 and 200 feet in 2006.
BLUE MOON benefits from the highest possible level of pedigree and craftmanship from her owner, but also features bespoke elements that set her apart from other yachts. BLUE MOON has an all-decks glass elevator that makes her accessible for all guests. She also features an observation lounge on her bridge deck that provides exceptional, panoramic views thanks to floor-to-ceiling glass windows and a sunroof that opens fresh air and natural light. One of the most appreciated features is the yacht’s 1,200-square-foot master stateroom, located on the main deck. In addition to being a simply opulent and comfortable place to rest one’s head, this suite also features a full office and a private gym.
The additional five staterooms of BLUE MOON, located below deck, are equally as comfortable as the master. The yacht’s flexible configuration allows for a variety of stateroom layouts, from three to five, depending on the owners’ or guests’ needs. For example, four of these five staterooms can be combined to create two large VIP suites, each of which has its own his-and-hers en-suite bathroom and a sitting room. Additionally, a guest gymnasium is on this deck. All staterooms feature entertainment facilities and top-quality amenities.
The interior spaces of BLUE MOON exemplifies classic styling with traditional elements creating a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere. She offers a variety of spaces to relax and unwind, from her main deck main salon to the bridge deck lounge with a full bar, game table and large 82-inch drop-down TV. Guests can enjoy formal indoor dining on the main deck or the bridge deck, which also becomes an alfresco dining spaces once the enclosing glass panels are stowed. Up to 12 guests can enjoy the sumptuous experience at this wonderful table.
Other highlights of BLUE MOON include her on-deck Jacuzzi with large sunpads, her main deck aft lounge space, ideally suited for morning coffees or afternoon cocktails, her full suite of tenders and toys and her large swim platform providing easy access to the water.
BLUE MOON has been exceptionally maintained since her launch. In 2019, her Quantum Zero Speed stabilizers were upgraded to XT fin type. Her shore power units were replaced, and she completed her 15-year Lloyds’ survey. In 2018 the yacht’s superstructure was repainted and her hull and main-deck bulwarks were repainted in February 2021. It was the second full moon of August, thus the blue label. And it was unusually close to Earth, therefore a supermoon.
The moon appeared to be bigger and brighter than usual, given its close proximity to Earth: just 222,043 miles (357,344 kilometers) or so. The Aug. 1 supermoon was more than 100 miles (160 kilometers) farther away.
If you missed it, it will be a long wait: The next blue supermoon isn’t until 2037. But another regular supermoon is on the horizon at the end of September, the last one of the year.

A rare blue supermoon – the closest full moon of the year – dazzled stargazers around the world on Wednesday night.
A supermoon is broadly defined as a full moon that is closer to the Earth than normal. That makes it appear slightly brighter and bigger in the sky. It was the second full moon of August, thus the blue label – “blue moon” is the term applied when a full moon is seen twice in a single month.
Saturn joined the celestial spectacle, visible alongside the moon, at least where the skies were clear.
The last time two full supermoons were seen in the same month was in 2018.
The next blue supermoon is not until 2037, but another regular supermoon is on the horizon at the end of September and will be the last one this year.

Going to miss the solar eclipse? Don’t worry, the next one is only years away

Good morning, and welcome to the Essential California newsletter . It’s Saturday, April 6 . Here’s what you need to know to start your weekend:
- The solar eclipse is Monday.
- In one of L.A.’s largest cash heists ever , burglars stole as much as $30 million from vault.
- 🌉 9 lovely walks to explore L.A.’s most beautiful bridges .
- And here’s today’s e-newspaper
Start your day right
Sign up for Essential California for news, features and recommendations from the L.A. Times and beyond in your inbox six days a week.
You may occasionally receive promotional content from the Los Angeles Times.
Avoid four simple mistakes to make the most of Monday’s solar eclipse
For 4 minutes and 28 seconds on Monday, day will become night for 31.5 million people. From Niagara Falls to Mazatlán, Mexico, along the “path of totality” a total solar eclipse will blot out the sun.
Temperatures drop suddenly. The sun’s corona, which is usually impossible to see creates a spectacular view.
California is not in the path of totality. Even if the chilly storms and rains headed our way clear, we will only get to see a partial eclipse. The sun and the moon won’t be perfectly aligned.
For Angelenos, the moon will visibly cover half of the sun. In San Francisco, only a third.
Maybe that sounds disappointing. But waiting five years until the next partial solar eclipse (or 20 until the next total one) would probably be worse.
So, get out there. Take a break. Enjoy the hopefully decent weather and bask in the partial darkness.
But be careful. Solar eclipses have rules.
Don’t miss the window
In Los Angeles the eclipse will begin at 10:06 a.m. By 10:39 a.m. the moon will take a substantial bite of the sun, peaking at 11:12 a.m. It will be over by 12:22 p.m, according to the Griffith Observatory.
NASA offers an eclipse explorer map .
There are many eclipse viewing parties around Los Angeles (between 10:00 a.m. and noon), where you can ask astrophysicists questions or look at the eclipse through solar telescopes.
Don’t forget your solar viewers or eclipse glasses
“It is very dangerous to look at the partially eclipsed sun directly with your own eyes,” Ed Krupp, the longtime director of the Griffith Observatory, told my colleague Rong-Gong Lin II . “You’re tempted to do it, but it will burn the retinas permanently and cause permanent blindness.”
Those in the zone of totality can remove their eclipse glasses and watch the total eclipse with a naked eye, NASA says. But only for the minute or two that totality lasts.
It’s also unsafe to look at the eclipse through a camera lens, binoculars, telescope or regular sunglasses. You need solar viewers or eclipse glasses that comply with the ISO 12312-2 international standard .
The American Astronomical Society has a list of reputable suppliers of eclipse glasses, filters and viewers .
The Los Angeles Public Library will be distributing more than 20,000 eclipse glasses for free at the L.A. Maker Faire today at the L.A. State Historic Park in Chinatown.
Some Warby Parker locations ( here’s a list ) are also handing out free solar eclipse glasses.
Don’t bother trying to take a photo (but if you want to, here are some tips)
It’s quite challenging to get a “good” photo of an eclipse, especially of totality. The rapid change from daylight to twilight darkness requires technical adaptability .
But here’s your best bet: Use your eclipse glasses or a certified solar filter over the camera lens.
You can also use a black tape or a cloth to cut down on the light between the solar filter and the lens.
“We would not recommend pointing [your phone’s camera] directly at the sun for extended periods of time with no filter,” Google’s Pixel camera team told my colleague Ron .
You can equally enjoy the experience by putting your phone down , looking at how other people are reacting and noticing the changes in nature.
Speaking of nature...
Don’t forget that it’s still daytime (some animals will forget)
The Great American Eclipse of 2017 mystified tiny marine creatures known as zooplankton .
“One hour before the sky went dark, the confused little critters began swimming up the water column to start their nighttime feeding routine,” wrote my colleague Deborah Netburn. “As soon as totality was over” they “made their way back to the safety of deeper, darker waters,” realizing their mistake.
This time, researchers and scientists will observe how the solar eclipse will interfere with the routines of animals at Texas’ Fort Worth Zoo.
“It’s sort of adorable, this whole colony of tiny little creatures being like, ‘Oooh, nighttime!’ and then a few minutes later they’re like, ‘Oops,’” solar physicist Dan Seaton told Deborah in 2017. “It’s all part of the magic of eclipses.”
