Die Handlung von Die Yacht – Ein mörderischer Trip

Drei Paare treffen sich in Die Yacht – Ein mörderischen Trip zu einer ausgedehnten Geburtstagsparty auf der Yacht des erfolgreichen Anwalts Flavio (Filippo Nigro). Fünf der Teilnehmende kennen sich seit der gemeinsamen Schulzeit. Nur Martina, die Freundin (Katsiaryna Shulha) von Geburtstagskind Enrico (Marco Bocci), ist neu in der Clique. Man lichtet den Anker und los geht’s. Die Party ufert aus mit Alkohol und Drogen, und am nächsten Morgen sind alle ziemlich verkatert. Doch das ist nicht ihr größtes Problem.

Denn die Yacht hat sich offenbar vom Anker los gerissen und treibt mitten im offenen Meer – anstatt in Küstennähe zu dümpeln. Aber nicht nur das: Das Funkgerät und alle Signalgeräte sind verschwunden, ebenso Wasser und Nahrungsmittel. Und dann meldet sich ein ominöser Mann, der offenbar mit allen an Bord ein Hühnchen zu rupfen hat, angefangen mit Enrico. Von dem eigentlich mittellosen Underdog inmitten seiner reichen Freunde erpresst er 1,6 Millionen Euro. Doch damit fängt der mörderische Trip erst an.

Sujet mit hohem Potenzial

Thriller, die mit möglichst sparsamer Besetzung in der Enge eines kleinen Schiffes oder Bootes spielen, haben hohes Potenzial. Das wird mal klug genutzt, wie etwa in Klassikern wie Der alte Mann und das Meer ( 1958) von John Sturges mit Spencer Tracy oder in der moderneren One-Man-Show All Is Lost (2013) von J. C. Chandor mit Robert Redford . Man kann es aber auch ziemlich vergeigen wie etwa in Open Water 2 oder dem garstigen Horror-Trash Ghost Ship von 2002 mit Gabriel Byrne . Die Yacht – Ein mörderischer Trip liegt irgendwo dazwischen.

Der Film beginnt mit einem Alptraum von Elena (Diane Fleri). Was es damit auf sich hat, erfährt man aber erst am Schluss des Films. Nach dem schweißgebadeten Erwachen herrscht indes erstmal Friede, Freude, Eierkuchen. In hübschester Hochglanzoptik wie aus der Werbung zieht es uns ins Leben der Reichen und Schönen. Auf der exquisiten Yacht lässt sich sehr bequem die Seele baumeln, oder man nutzt die geräumigen Kabinen gleich erstmal zu amouröseren Dingen. Sex sells eben auch im italienischen Kino. Schön und gut gebaut sind sie alle, und da Die Yacht – Ein mörderischer Trip auch nie zu sehr in die Tiefe geht, passt dieser oberflächliche Schein der schönen Dinge auch recht gut zur Tonalität des Streifens.

Die Yacht- Ein mörderisches Spiel lässt Masken fallen

Wobei es spannende Momente gibt, und auch einige Twists mit leichtem Überraschungspotenzial. Doch das allzu Vertraute und Klischeehafte überwiegt. Zu letzterem gehört auch die latente Kapitalismuskritik, hier verkörpert durch den zunächst zwielichtig erscheinenden Enrico, der anfangs noch prahlt: „Zufriedenheit ist der erste Schritt ins Unglücklichsein.“ Doch seine krummen Touren sind eben nur halb so krumm wie diejenigen der Anderen, die im Gegensatz zu ihm wirklich zu den oberen Zehntausend gehören. Und wenn in der Krise die Masken fallen, gewinnt seine Rolle zunehmend Sympathiepunkte.

Optisch bietet Die Yacht – Ein mörderischer Trip indes allerlei Reize. Und insbesondere der Übergang vom ersten zum zweiten Akt ist inszenatorisch überaus gelungen. Der zunehmende Partyrausch ist in Zeitlupe gefilmt, mit zunehmender Doppelbelichtung, bis er in einer langsamen Schwarzblende endet. Da ist das Alkohol- und Drogenkoma treffend visualisiert. Dann der Schnitt auf die bewusstlos auf Deck liegende und langsam erwachende Elena. Es folgt eine gut fünfminütige Plansequenz – bei der Regisseur Liguori allerdings mit Hilfe von Vorhängen und dunklen Türen an einigen Stellen geschickt getrickst hat. Die Handkamera folgt darin Flavio, der allmählich den Ernst ihrer Lage zu begreifen beginnt. Dabei wird die zuvor großräumig gefühlte Yacht zu einem Ort klaustrophobischer Enge. Die Gruppe verloren in der Weite der offenen See, was anschließend die Totale der auf dem Wasser treibenden Yacht mit sich entfernender Kamera noch einmal verdeutlicht.

Logiklöcher bremsen Spannung aus

Das ist ziemlich gut gemacht. Aber leider hält der Film diese Raffinesse nicht durch. Denn immer wieder plätschert die Handlung wegen Vorhersehbarkeit träge vor sich hin wie die Wellen des Ozeans. Da hilft es wenig, wenn immer neue dunkle Geheimnisse der Vergangenheit ans Licht kommen. Ich weiß, was Du im letzten Sommer getan hast lässt schön grüßen. Die gelegentliche Spannung wird von Logiklöchern ausgebremst. Und auch wenn sich Die Yacht – Ein mörderischer Trip viel Zeit nimmt, eigentlich zu viel Zeit, um Motive zu erklären, bleibt die Psychologie der Akteure doch immer an der Oberfläche. Trotz der nicht einmal 90 Minuten Laufzeit netto (ohne Abspann), hätte eine stärkere Straffung dem Film bestimmt nicht geschadet.

Zum Ende hin verdickt sich die Story schließlich immer mehr zum italienischen Melodram. Wobei auch die Musik, die oft durchaus angenehm wenn auch ziemlich ausführlich den Film untermalt, zunehmend penetrant wird. Immerhin sind es neben der gelungenen visuellen Umsetzung auch die durchweg soliden darstellerischen Leistungen, die verhindern, dass die Yacht untergeht.

Unser Fazit zu Die Yacht – Ein mörderischer Trip

Leider nutzt der Thriller Die Yacht – Ein mörderischer Trip das in dem Sujet liegende Spannungspotenzial nicht genügend aus. Die Charaktere bleiben oberflächlich, Handlungsmuster klischeebehaftet. Einige dann doch überraschende Twists, die gelungene visuelle Umsetzung und die guten Leistungen der Darstellenden retten den Film vorm Untergang. Er bietet durchaus nette Unterhaltung für einen Sonntagnachmittag auf dem heimischen Sofa, mehr aber auch nicht.

Bella ( Ruby Rose ) staunt nicht schlecht, als sie eines Tages einen Anruf von einem Mann namens Meeser ( Frank Grillo ) erhält. Der stellt sich als Geschäftspartner ihres Vaters vor und erzählt ihr, dass sie nach dessen Tod eine Yacht geerbt hat. Kontakt hatte sie zu ihm keinen, das Verhältnis war seit Langem zerrüttet. Ihre Trauer hält sich dann auch in Grenzen, als sie von dem Tod erfährt. Und doch ist sie neugierig auf das Boot, schließlich könnte dieses die Antwort auf ihre finanziellen Sorgen sein. Tatsächlich stellt sich das Erbe als gigantisch heraus, viele Millionen US-Dollar kann sie mit dem Verkauf verdienen. Als sie dies nachts feiern möchte und die attraktive Zufallsbekanntschaft Michael ( Patrick Schwarzenegger ) mit auf die Yacht nimmt, um dort die Nacht mit ihm zu verbringen, erlebt sie jedoch einen absoluten Alptraum: Eine Gruppe Männer bringt das Boot in seine Gewalt und fährt damit aufs offene Meer hinaus …

Kostengünstige Enttäuschung

Eine Zeit lang sah es so aus, als könnte Ruby Rose eine richtig starke Karriere in Hollywood haben. Viel geblieben ist davon nicht. Aus der Prestigeserie Batgirl ist sie ausgestiegen. Stattdessen gab es die Actionthriller S.A.S.: Red Notice und Vanquish – Überleben hat seinen Preis , dazu not die Komödie 1UP . Gesehen haben muss man nichts davon. Während der erstgenannte Film zumindest noch irgendwie Durchschnitt war, sind die beiden anderen qualitativ deutlich darunter angesetzt. Und leider gilt das auch für The Yacht , eine weitere eher kostengünstige Direct-to-Video-Produktion, die kaum dazu geeignet ist, der vor sich hin dümpelnden Karriere der Australierin neuen Schwung zu verleihen.

Fans der durchaus actionaffinen Schauspielerin dürften zudem enttäuscht sein, wie wenig ihr Kampftalent genutzt wird. Die erste Irritation besteht darin, dass wir eine junge Bella ( Eden Harper ) sehen, die Probleme mit der Polizei hat. Für den weiteren Verlauf der Handlung ist die Szene völlig irrelevant. Das bisschen Familiengeschichte hätte man auch anderweitig im Film unterbringen können, zumal es nicht einmal so ist, dass dadurch etwas für den Inhalt gewonnen wäre. Das entfremdete Verhältnis zum Vater wird nicht wirklich deutlicher. Die kriminelle Vorvergangenheit hilft nichts bei dem Überlebenskampf auf dem Schiff. Der Schicksalsschlag, der in ihr eine Wasserphobie ausgelöst hat, ist auch nur ein billiger Kniff, um die Protagonistin vom Meer fernzuhalten und sie zu einer Gefangenen auf der Yacht zu machen.

Unsinnig und langweilig

Nicht dass die Serie ansonsten großen Wert darauf legen würde, irgendwie sinnvoll zu sein. Tatsächlich sind die Logiklöcher teils so enorm groß, dass selbst eine Luxusyacht wie in dem Film darin problemlos verschwinden könnte. Warum beispielsweise die Verbrecher nicht vorher schon zugeschlagen haben, als dies mit wenig Aufwand möglich gewesen wäre, wird nie klar. Auch eine späte Wendung ergibt nicht sonderlich viel Sinn. Zumal kaum jemand, abgesehen von der Protagonistin, hiervon überrascht sein dürfte. Ian Hayden , der hierfür sein erstes und bislang einziges Drehbuch vorgelegt hat, hat damit nicht unbedingt ein Empfehlungsschreiben verfasst. Von den Figuren brauchen wir erst gar nicht anzufangen.

Das wäre alles zu verschmerzen, wenn der Film dafür spannend wäre. Aber auch bei seiner Hauptaufgabe versagt der Thriller. Dabei sind Setting und Szenario eigentlich durchaus geeignet, um Spannung zu erzeugen. So eine Yacht ist weitläufig genug, um sich darin irgendwo verstecken zu können. Gleichzeitig handelt es sich um einen in sich geschlossenen Raum, aus dem es kein Entkommen gibt. Daraus hätte man also schon etwas machen können. Tatsächlich passiert die Hälfte des Films lang praktisch gar nichts, erst später kommt es zu einem tatsächlichen Kampf. Warum Bella so gut im Kämpfen ist, wird übrigens ebenfalls nicht verraten. Da wird dann einfach ein Schalter umgelegt. Das ist schade, weil so viel mehr möglich gewesen wäre, nur selten wird es tatsächlich mal etwas aufregender. Und so sind die besten Szenen dann auch die, als Bella und Michael miteinander flirten. Auch das ist letztendlich nicht wirklich relevant für die Handlung, für sich genommen sind das aber Momente, die funktionieren – was man vom Rest kaum behaupten kann.

Typischer Verriss der John Wick Generation. The Yacht bietet einen durchaus spannenden Thriller der, das ist tatsächlich für mich als Fan von Ruby Rose etwas unschön, sparsam mit Action umgeht. Aber gut. Das ist dem geringen Budget solch einen kleinen Film geschuldet. Der Film an sich ist nicht so schlecht, wie er auf diversen Seiten verrissen wird.

Übrigens glänzte Ruby Rose erst unlängst mit toller Action in dem Film „The Doorman“. Wird natürlich und wie erwartet im Artikel nicht erwähnt. Auch nicht erwähnt wird, das Ruby kleinere Produktionsunternehen, Independent Filme, unterstützt.

Ich hoffe noch viel mehr von Ruby zu sehen. Gerne auch in weniger spektakulären Filme wie The Yacht. Nehme ich gerne mit. Vanquish fand ich auch toll. Guter B-Movie.

Warum auch erwähnen.

Leider stört die Unlogik in dem Film, mehr als die unsinnigen Dialoge. Man merkt bereits am Anfang, dass dieser Film enttäuschen wird, denkt sich jedoch, egal, will die Story sehen. Man stellt sich so viele „warums“ und denkt sich „hä“s, dass es schon Mega langweilt, da man den Verstand wohl weglassen muss, dann bleibt auch kein Action. Also im großen und ganzen, eine 2 von 10.

Here's How the Yacht in the Overboard Remake Compares to Goldie Hawn's Original

The film Overboard is about the haves and the have-nots—or, in this case, the haves and the have-yachts. The original 1987 film, which stars Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell , and the 2018 remake of the same name—which stars Eugenio Derbez and Anna Faris and was released just this month—feature childish yacht owners (Hawn and Derbez, respectively) who have amnesia and are, then, reestablished in less elite but comedic existences. For each of the Overboard films, ultra-luxe boats weren't only a crucial part of the setting—they were also key in demonstrating the characters’ status, and characters’ dedication to status symbols.

In Overboard (1987), the 130-foot Yecats from Kong & Halvorsen in Glenorie, Australia (which was renamed the Attessa in 1992 and the Huntress in 1998), was featured as the S.S. Immaculata. (The same boat was also featured in 1993's Indecent Proposal, which stars Woody Harrelson and Demi Moore.) The interior decoration was characteristic of the era: The bold colors and excessive design complemented Hawn's character's profligate outfits. Brent Thomas, the production designer for Overboard (2018), describes: “There was definitely a campy vibe to it and it was incredibly ’80s, both in palette and in shapes and tones. It worked very well, but it was gauche and over the top and it assaulted your senses a little bit. We wanted to make our yacht in the remake a little more sophisticated and elegant and cleaner and crisper and more pristine and grounded, perhaps. A sort of sleek, smooth, gentleman’s fantasy but with elegance and taste as opposed to the one in the original.”

Thomas and his team chose the 164-foot Aspen Alternative for Derbez’s Birthday Present —a 2010 custom creation from Trinity Yachts in Gulfport, Mississippi, that he sourced from Saint Maarten in the Caribbean after a lengthy international search. (In case anyone gets a case of yacht envy, the Aspen Alternative is currently on the market for $18.9 million.) Thomas credits the boat’s aesthetic—its “old-world elegance” with exotic sapele-wood details—as the reason for the decision.

The Aspen Alternative’s exteriors and main salon were featured in the film, but the interiors were constructed in Vancouver, Canada. In Overboard (1987), there’s a focus on the estate room’s closets, with Hawn exclaiming at one point, “Well, the entire civilized world knows that all closets are made of cedar!” (Cedar can be more costly and is often considered more prestigious, as it repels moths and moisture.) For this reason, Thomas says he introduced one in the remake, too: “As a little shout-out to Goldie’s closet, I gave Eugenio a fabulous walk-in closet. It looked like a Hugo Boss store with shelves of shirts and shoes. It was lit and beautifully laid out. Again, as a wink and a nod, we gave him a place for a bunch of shoes as well.”

Overboard (1987) contrasts with the remake, but it was the similarities between Hawn and Faris that were especially memorable for Thomas: “Every now and again, I went, ‘Oh my God, Anna looks and sounds just like Goldie!’ There was one moment with her lying back on the area in the bow of the boat. She said something like, “Boy, I could really get used to this lifestyle.’ It was a sunny day where you could lay back and relax, and it felt like the world was your oyster," remembers Thomas fondly. "I smiled and said, 'I get it. I could dig this lifestyle, too.'"

After exclusively breaking the news about the brand new 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' series earlier this year, YachtCharterFleet can now unveil more details about Bravo's latest addition to the Below Deck franchise. 

Set to hit our screens on February 3, 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' will follow a new crew of yachties as they set sail around the coastlines of Greece .

This is the first series in Below Deck history which features a luxury sailing yacht, with the 180ft sailing yacht Parsifal III playing the starring role.

The new series joins the original Below Deck, which premiered in 2013, and Below Deck Mediterranean, which premiered in 2016.

Promising even more action on the high seas, a new trailer gives us an insight into what we can expect from the show's first ever season.

What's different about the new series?

This is the first ever time Below Deck has branched away from motor yachts, and the sailing vessel component of the new series is expected to inject even more drama to the show. 

This is partly due to the fact that the design of luxury sailing yachts leads to far more confined crew areas than we are used to seeing on the original Below Deck.

Although the 180ft Parsfill III is the 59th largest sailing yacht ever build, her interior volumes are much smaller than a motor yacht of the equivalent length. Motor yachts are typically wider, and have more decks- Parsifal III has just three slim decks.

Sailing yachts also heel (lean) from side to side while under sail, creating plenty of problems for the interior team as you can see in the trailer above.

Sailing yachts generally feature smaller galleys, tiny stew stations and cramped crew quarters which are in closer proximity to the guests’ living areas, making it more challenging for the crew to deliver their signature silver service.

Sailing yachts also heel (lean) from side to side while under sail, creating plenty of problems for the interior team, as you can see in the trailer above.

In addition, we can expect to see the deck crew placed in a far more demanding role, with sailing yachts requiring accuracy and skills to manoeuvre safely.

Furthermore, plenty of deck duties take place in the midst of guest areas, so the pressure will be on as the sailors struggle to keep their cool in front of their charter guests.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Cast: New crew and a familiar face

The crew is helmed by the yacht's full-time captain Glenn Shepherd, a keen sailor with 10 years of experience on board Parsifal III. This is unusual for Below Deck, as the full-time crew are usually replaced with a temporary cast during filming. 

Long-time Below Deck fans will spot a familar face in the crew; chef Adam Gliick, who made his debut appearance in Below Deck Mediterranean season 2 and is returning for the first season of the new Sailing Yacht series.

There is also a couple onboard, which is common in yachting, but has never been seen before on Below Deck. Ciara Duggan and Paget Berry also work full-time on Parsifal III, but the pair has never worked in the same department before. Berry works as the yacht's first mate, while Duggan will be stepping in as deckhand. 

The interior crew is headed up by chief stewardess Jenna MacGillivray. She will need to have a firm hold on her crew and an even firmer hold on her interior, as unsecured items will wreak havoc when the yacht catches wind and heels (leans). She is joined by second stewardess Madison Stalker and third stew Georgia Grobler.

Where was Below Deck Sailing Yacht filmed?

Filming for the new series took place around the Greek island of Corfu in the Ionian Sea. The yacht's homeport for the series was Corfu Yacht Harbour; this is where we can expect to catch our first glimpse of the charter guests as they embark and disembark the yacht. 

When will Below Deck Sailing Yacht premiere?

The new Sailing Yacht series premieres Monday, February 3rd at 9pm ET/PT on Bravo TV.

Parsifal III charters from $195,000 per week plus expenses. This does not include the price of food, drinks, the cost to dock, or fuel costs associated with water toys.

Whether the silver screen is taking a look at the lives of affluent families and businessmen or tapping into extravagant daydreams the audience will no doubt relate to, yachts used in movies serve plenty of roles. Here is a list of some of the famous yachts in movies that left an impression on our minds.

The Parent Trap (1998)

M/Y Synthesis 66

The setting of the long-awaited reunion between parents, masterminded by the film’s central red-headed twin sisters (both played by Lindsay Lohan), this 139-foot luxury motor yacht has a classic design. Built and launched by renowned superyacht builder Feadship in 1982, the Synthesis 66 has a unique canoe stern and expansive aft deck. Named Halcyon in the film, the vessel’s 5 cabins can accommodate up to 10 guests. Her exterior design was created by De Voogt Naval Architects with interiors designed by Pierre Tanter.

The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)

The motor yacht M3 served as the setting for the extravagant, drug-fueled parties of the film’s main character, Jordan Belfort. In the film, the M3  portrays the real-life yacht Belfort actually owned, the Nadine . The yacht infamously sank off the coast of Italy in 1996, 1 which was depicted in the movie. This 147.01-foot yacht was built in 2002 by Intermarine. Previously named Lady M, the vessel has recently painted its hull black. With interiors by Daniella Speicht, the yacht’s 5 cabins accommodate up to 10 guests. The M3 can be chartered to cruise in the Caribbean for $145,000 per week.

Mamma Mia! (2008)

M/Y Haida 1929

This classic motor yacht played a starring role in Meryl Streep’s exuberant rendition of ABBA’s super hit “Money, Money, Money.” Launched in 1929, the Haida 1929 (previously named Haida G and Dona Amelia) is one of the oldest mega yachts still in the water today. Available for charter, this stunning 233-foot vessel is available for charter and lets guests experience a taste of the 1930s yachting lifestyle. Over her long history, she has had 11 owners and even served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Undergoing a major restoration in 20182, the vessel’s updated interiors are lighter yet still retain their classic charm.
