With a total interior volume of 15,917GT, Dilbar is the largest yacht in the world by gross tonnage, if not by length. Built by Lürssen and delivered to the Mediterranean in May 2016, she replaced the owner's previous yacht of the same name, which has since been renamed Al Raya. Record-breaking features on board include her 180 cubic metre swimming pool, which is believed to be the largest on any yacht, and her 30,000KW electric diesel power plant, which Lürssen claims is the most powerful fitted to a superyacht.

The $600 Million Dilbar Is The World’s Largest Yacht By Gross Tonnage

Built by Lürssen Yachts , the custom build super yacht Dilbar is the world’s largest yacht in terms of sheer gross tonnage. The 514.8 ft vessel features a steel hull, an aluminium superstructure and a teak deck, and has seven decks. One of the longest superyachts, Dilbar is currently fourth behind Azzam by Lurssen and Blohm + Voss built Eclipse and Dubai yachts.

Moreover, Dilbar’s diesel electric power plant of 30.000 kW is also the largest installed on any yacht and allows her to operate at a continuous speed of 22,5 knots. The yacht belongs to Alisher Usmanov. According to January 2015 Forbes website data, Usmanov is Russia’s richest man, with a fortune estimated at $14.7 billion, and the world’s 58th richest person.

Dilbar Officially Becomes Largest Yacht by Gross Tonnage

156 m superyacht Dilbar has officially become the world’s largest yacht by volume.

The builder Lurssen confirmed the gross tonnage of 15,917 tons. Although it’s only the fourth superyacht by length, Dilbar tops Al Said’s 15,850 tons and Azzam’s 13,135 tons.

Dilbar, formerly known as Project Omar, has a beam of 23 meters and a deep draft of 6 meters. Dilbar can cruise at a speed of 22 knots under diesel electric power. The yacht is so large that it required 1,100 km of electric cables.

The yacht exterior is designed by Espen Oeino, the interior is signed by Andrew Winch Designs. The owner of the superyacht is Russian billionaire Alisher Ustinov, who owns also a 115 m superyach also named Dilbar, now renamed Ona.

Dilbar uses a steel hull and an aluminum superstructure. The living quarters have a combined 3,800 square meters of space. The superyacht has a lot of features, including two helipads. The construction of Dilbar took 52 months.

Lürssen yachts built the best motor yacht of the year 2016 - dilbar.

DILBAR (also known as Project OMAR), the biggest yacht by volume received the award “Motor Yacht of the Year” and in the category “Displacement Motoryacht 3,000 GT and Above” in Florence. The longest yacht is Azzam with 180m.

“One of the most complex and challenging yachts to be built,” the judges described her “as the most spectacular yacht they had ever seen and a clear winner for this prestigious award.”

The yacht has two helipads. One is on the bow, the other one aft on the top deck and is the home of an Airbus 175 – one of the largest VIP helicopters in the world – custom designed by Pegasus Design.

The diesel-electric propulsion with six Wärtsilä generators delivers a power of 30,000 kW (40,320 HP) to power DILBAR up to a top speed of 22.5 knots. Lürssen construed her with a steel hull and an aluminum superstructure.

This vessel is the successor of the previous DILBAR that is now known as RAYA (ex ONA). The home of the sand-colored yacht is the superyacht port in Barcelona.

There are no public interior pictures to respect the owner’s privacy, but a few data is available. The Winch-designed interior offers a space of 3,800 square meters for the owner and his guests. There are 20 cabins to welcome 36 guests . Up to 96 crew members can find place onboard. Moreover, the yacht features a 25m swimming pool with a water capacity of 180,000 liters .

A new time-lapse video of the 156m/512ft superyacht DILBAR , confirmed as the world’s largest yacht in terms of volume, has been released to celebrate her recent delivery to the Mediterranean .  

The spectacular footage provides a behind-the-scenes glimpse of DILBAR under construction at the Lurssen shipyard as well as aerial shots of her 2,000nm delivery passage to the Mediterranean .

DILBAR is now the world’s largest yacht with a gross tonnage of 15,917 tons, surpassing superyacht ‘Al Said’, a fellow build from the shipyard measuring in at 15,850 tons.  

Indeed, as she takes shape, viewers can see her sheer scale as well as the huge amount of labor involved in her 52-month build as welders and other craftsmen get to work on her hull and superstructure.

Lurssen also revealed that the motor yacht was ‘one of the most complex and challenging yachts that has ever been built, both in terms of dimension and technology'.

As luxury yacht DILBAR gets underway and smoothly cuts through the water, the video unveils the curved and fluid lines which make up her timeless profile as well as her expansive foredeck and sundeck aft, both home to helipads.

She is also said to ‘provide spaces in the interior which have never been seen on a yacht before’. But the superyacht world is left guessing what these could be as the Andrew Winch-styled interior remains a heavily guarded secret.

In terms of length, M/Y DILBAR is the fourth largest yacht in the world.

Lürssen confirms the delivery of 156m Dilbar

On 14 may, lürssen saw the back of m/y dilbar, the world’s largest superyacht by gross tonnage….

On 14 May, Lürssen saw the back of M/Y Dilbar, the world’s largest superyacht by gross tonnage. According to the shipyard, the 157m superyacht was ‘one of the most complex and challenging yachts’ they have ever built in terms of dimension and technology.

At 15,917gt, Dilbar provides interior spaces, the size of which have never been seen on a superyacht before. In 2013, Lurssen delivered the largest yacht in the fleet by length, 180m Azzam , and yet her volume is a staggering 2781gt lower than Dilbar . Furthermore, the 30,000kw diesel electric power plant aboard Dilbar is also the largest of its kind installed on any yacht, enabling her to operate and a continuous speed of 22.5 knots.

“Building Dilbar was a great challenge and we are proud of this achievement, especially considering the contract time of only 52 months,” commented Peter Lürssen, Lürssen’s managing partner. “She truly represents another exceptional milestone in not only our history, but in yachting history as well”.

Under the clear guidance and leadership of the owner, the general arrangement and exterior design was developed by world renowned superyacht designer Espen Oeino, who has given Dilbar a timeless classical profile, which is underlined by the light ivory colour of the hull and the bronze accents, similar to to the colour scheme of the original 110m Dilbar , now known as Ona .

“We here at Espen Oeino International, feel honoured and privileged to have been part of this incredible voyage,” stated Oeino. “The close cooperation with all parties involved was the catalyst for making the yacht as magnificent as she is”.

Dilbar’s interior design was created at the Winch Design studio in London, incorporating unique mixes of rare and striking materials, giving her an extraordinary look and feel.

Ukraine invasion — explained

Germany seizes the world's largest yacht (at least according to volume)

German authorities have seized the world's largest yacht by volume after determining that a Russian oligarch had transferred its ownership to his sister — who is also facing Western sanctions.

Dilbar, the yacht in question, measures some 511 feet and 15,917 tons, which shipbuilder Lurssen says makes it the largest motor yacht in the world by gross tonnage. It has two helipads and one of the biggest indoor pools ever installed on a yacht, according to the U.S. Treasury Department , which puts its estimated worth between $600 and $735 million.

Why so many Russian billionaires are called oligarchs

The superyacht is named after the mother of its original owner: Alisher Usmanov, one of Russia's wealthiest billionaires and a known close associate of the Russian president. Usmanov was sanctioned by the U.S., United Kingdom., European Union and Switzerland in March, following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Germany's federal police tweeted Wednesday that it found, "through extensive investigations despite offshore concealment," that the yacht currently belongs to Usmanov's sister, Gulbakhor Ismailova. Authorities impounded the yacht, which remains at the port of Hamburg , after confirming with Brussels that its owner is under sanctions.

Ismailova was sanctioned by the U.K. on Wednesday and the EU last week. Both entities said Usmanov had indirectly transferred assets to his sister, including leaving her as Dilbar's only beneficial owner.

"The owner of the yacht 'Dilbar' is Navis Marine Ltd. (Cayman Islands), whose shareholder is Almenor Holdings Ltd. (Cyprus). All shares in that holding company are held by PomerolCapital SA (Switzerland) in trust for the benefit of 'The Sisters Trust,' " EU officials explained, adding that Usmanov has not been a shareholder of that trust company since 2017.

Ismailova has also been linked to luxury real estate in Italy and Latvia associated with Usmanov, the EU said, and therefore has "actively supported materially or financially Russian decision-makers responsible for the annexation of Crimea and the destabilisation of Ukraine."

Dilbar made headlines in early March , when Hamburg officials denied conflicting reports that they had seized the superyacht and said any such move would have to come from higher federal customs authorities.

According to Boat International, Dilbar is also the fourth-longest yacht in the world. It can accommodate up to 96 crew members as well as 24 guests in a large living space, which includes fold-out balconies, an onboard garden (with "a specifically developed variety of grass that tolerates salt air") and more than 1,000 custom-made sofa cushions.

The 156m Lurssen superyacht  Dilbar  is the largest motor yacht in the world by gross tonnage.  Dilbar  is worth a fortune and filled with countless luxuries, but who is the owner of the yacht, and how did they amass their fortune? Read on to find out.

Who is the owner of Yacht Dilbar?

The owner of  Dilbar  is Alisher Usmanov, one of Russia’s richest men. The Uzbek-born billionaire has a staggering net worth of £13.706bn. It’s with this immense fortune that he bought the 156m  Dilbar in 2016 . Based on her gross tonnage of 15,917,  Dilbar  is estimated to have a worth of between $800 and $1bn, making her one of the highest value superyachts in the world.

How did Alisher Usmanov get rich?

Alisher Usmanov is amongst the wealthiest citizens of Russia. He stands alongside billionaires like Roman Abramovich and Vladimir Putin ( who owns a whole fleet of yachts himself ). Over the years, Usmanov has accumulated his wealth through various ventures, ranging from selling plastic bags to being an early investor in Facebook. However, his high net worth is mostly due to his involvement in the mining and investment industries. Usmanov has shown no sign of slowing down, with his worth increasing by a substantial 1.726bn between 2020-2021. Importantly he makes sure to use his money to benefit others – of everyone on the  Sunday Times Rich List  he is by far the most charitable, giving almost £500m in the past year alone.

Il cantiere navale tedesco Lürssen, specializzato nella costruzione di grandi yachts, ha consegnato il 156 metri Dilbar

SI TRATTA DELLA NAVE DA DIPORTO CON IL PIÙ GRANDE GROSS TONNAGE AL MONDO. Senza alcun dubbio Dilbar è uno dei più complessi ed impegnativi yacht che sia mai stato costruito, sia in termini di dimensioni che in tecnologia. Con un GT di 15.917 tonnellate, Dilbar ha spazi interni mai visti prima su uno yacht. La piscina interna ha una capacità di 180 metri cubi di acqua ed è la più imponente costruita fino ad ora su uno yacht. Anche l’impianto diesel elettrico di 30.000 kW è il più grande installato a bordo e permette di navigare a velocità costante di 22.5 nodi. è stata verniciata una superficie totale di 10.000 metri quadri e sono stati utilizzati più di 1.100 chilometri di cavi. Peter Lürssen ha dichiarato orgoglioso: «La costruzione di Dilbar è stata una bella sfida e siamo orgogliosi di questo risultato, soprattutto considerando che il tempo a disposizione da contratto era solo di 52 mesi. Questo yacht può realmente rappresentare un nuovo record non solo per il nostro cantiere, ma per la storia dello yachting». Sotto il costante controllo dell’armatore, Espen Oeino International ha sviluppato le linee generali e l’esterior design, riuscendo ad imprimere allo yacht un intramontabile profilo classico, che è caratterizzato dal colore avorio chiaro dello scafo e da accenti in bronzo. Espen Oeino ha dichiarato: «Noi alla Espen Oeino International ci sentiamo onorati e privilegiati di aver fatto parte di questa incredibile impresa. La stretta collaborazione tra tutte le parti coinvolte è stata il fulcro della perfetta riuscita del lavoro». Andrew Winch Design di Londra ha seguito l’interior che è veramente spettacolare grazie all’utilizzo di materiali unici, rari e straordinari. Andrew Winch ha aggiunto: « Dilbar è stato per me un progetto entrato a far parte della mia vita. è veramente speciale, culturalmente unico ed incredibilmente dettagliato in tantissimi particolari. Siamo sicuri che l’armatore potrà godersi ogni singolo spazio a bordo».

IT IS THE LARGEST MOTOR YACHT IN THE WORLD BY GROSS TONNAGE. Without doubt Dilbar is one of the most complex and challenging yachts that has ever been built, both in terms of dimension and technology. With a gross tonnage of 15,917 t, Dilbar provides spaces in the interior which have never been seen on a yacht before. The indoor pool holds a stunning 180 m³ of water and is the largest pool to have been built on a yacht. The diesel electric power plant of 30.000 kW is the largest installed on any yacht and allows it to operate at a continuous speed of 22,5 knots. A total surface of 10,000 m² has been painted and more than 1,100 km of cabling has been fitted. Peter Lürssen proudly said: «Building Dilbar was a great challenge and we are proud of this achievement, especially considering the contract time of only 52 months. It truly represents another exceptional milestone in not only our history, but in yachting history as well». Under clear guidance of the owner, the general arrangement and exterior design was developed by Espen Oeino who has given the yacht a timeless classical profile which is underlined by the light ivory colour of the hull and the bronze accents. Espen Oeino stated: «We here at Espen Oeino International, feel honoured and privileged to have been part of this incredible voyage. The close cooperation with all parties involved was the catalyst for making the yacht as magnificent as it is». The interior design was created at the Andrew Winch Design office in London and is truly spectacular. Unique mixes of rare and striking materials give her an extraordinary look and feel. Andrew Winch quoted: « Dilbar has been a big part of my life. It is truly special, culturally unique and incredibly detailed in so many ways. We are sure that her owners will enjoy every space on board».
