Does anyone know, please, if this club actually exists? It's shown on some charts, just upriver of Brandy Hole on the Crouch, but I can't find anything about it online except for an address and a phone number (which rings unanswered). I certainly didn't notice it last time I sailed that way although the address suggests it's not actually on the river at all.  

Err. I sailed from there with a colleague in 1984. Does that help ?  

I think it's a mistake (or a former name). The only club up river is the Up River YC. Yellow pages give the same postcode for "Hullbridge YC" as the Up River YC show on their website.

I believe it is now a restaurant rather than yacht club?  

Actually , the up river yachr club is there on south side opposite southwoodham ferrers yacht club, which also shares with the water ski club based there . next going down river is hullbridge yacht club which has its own clubhouse and I think moorings moving further on downriver is brandy hole yacht club which is the one with fancy club/restaurant , im not sureof how much is left of the y/c side of things tho , brandy hole moorings is separate entity from the y/c hope this helps

URYC , HYC & BHYC all off Pooles lane Hullbridge .  

So, is there actually an active club called Hullbridge YC? Anyone on here belong to it? Brandy Hole YC is indeed now just a restaurant despite calling itself a club, and it doesn't own the pontoon in front of it (the gate between the two is locked) because that belongs to Brandy Hole Moorings Ltd. Been up there this year and found out all about it, I landed and asked in the cause of ongoing work keeping a certain pilot book up to date. It's Hullbridge YC that is the mystery to me. I didn't see it and I don't feel at all certain that it is real.

Founded Year

The Up River Yacht Club was founded in 1936 and is situated at Hullbridge on the River Crouch about ten miles up river from Burnham. The clubhouse consists of a club room, bar, kitchen and changing rooms. The boat park adjoins the clubhouse and there is also a car park, both of which are reached by a private roadway which continues past the clubhouse to the river, giving direct access to a private slipway. Each member receives a key to the gate and changing rooms area and can therefore sail whenever the tide is right. Cruiser moorings are controlled by the club and may be rented on application. Membership is currently available for all types of sailing craft, with some mooring space available for sailing cruisers up to 24 feet in length.

Smugglers Den

The Smugglers Den is a members club located on the bank of the beautiful River Crouch with views across the river to open countryside.  New members and guests are always welcome with membership at a low nominal yearly fee.

The Smugglers Den is a members club located on the bank of the beautiful River Crouch with views across the river to open countryside.  The river is home for many activities with small and large craft travelling further up to Battlesbridge or launching to go skiing eastwards towards Burnham on Crouch. Most weekends sailing dinghies can be seen racing from the adjacent Hullbridge Yacht Club or from Eyott Yacht Club on the northern side of the river in Fen Creek. Sunsets over the river are a real joy, all of which can be viewed from our Private River Garden with tables of varying capacities for individuals or groups.   Adjacent to the Smugglers is Kendal Park, which is a well-kept nature reserve and river walk, ideal to build up a thirst to quench with a pint of Smugglers Real Ale, a bottle of Vino or any other drink that takes your fancy.  Food is available after 3pm in association with The Broadway Grill supplying a host of English and Greek Mezza’s, Kebabs and a vast selection of freshly made pizzas.

Join us at our pub for an electrifying charity event featuring an incredible lineup of bands! Kicking off the afternoon at 12:00, we have the soulful tunes of Chris Hutton, followed by the captivating performances of Jay n Friends, Stevie B, The Black Sheep, COCO, The Lee Neegan Band, AOB, Freefall, and Vortex DCG. As the day unfolds, get ready for a thrilling raffle and auction at 19:30, offering fantastic prizes for a great cause. Then, immerse yourself in the melodious rhythms of MasKara, the Mickey Welton Band, and One Big Sugar before ending the night on a high note with the dynamic sounds of Black Rabbit at 23:00. Moorings at Hullbridge

URYC members benefit from swinging moorings that are nearest the club slipway. The annual mooring fee is set by the Crouch Harbour authority. This is exceptionally low compared to the cost of moorings from boatyards and marina companies. Click here to download a Mooring Application Form .

Because Up River Yacht Club supports sailing as a sport and pastime we do not accept motor boats. We have members who keep their motor boats elsewhere. There are also low cost moorings close by that are available for motorboats and sailing craft administered on behalf of the Crouch Harbour Authority by  Hullbridge Mooring Holders Association (HMHA). If you live to the North of the River Crouch you may prefer to consider South Woodham Ferrers Yacht Club , (SWFYC) see website for contact details.

A boat length limit of 9.14m (30ft) applies from Hullbridge to Brandy Hole.

Most Up River Yacht Club moorings at Hullbridge can be accessed four hours either side of high water.

To stay afloat at all states of the tide consider mooring your boat further down stream at Brandy Hole Moorings . Their deep water mooring also accommodate boats over 9.14m (30ft)

The recommended mooring design for the River Crouch at Hullbridge is shown below. Members are individually responsible for laying and maintaining their own mooring. Fellow syndicate members will gladly advise and assist. However, it’s important to realise that the low cost of mooring a yacht at Up River Yacht Club is a direct result of owners assuming this responsibility.

Gagarin cup (khl) finals:  atlant moscow oblast vs. salavat yulaev ufa.

Much like the Elitserien Finals, we have a bit of an offense vs. defense match-up in this league Final.  While Ufa let their star top line of Alexander Radulov, Patrick Thoresen and Igor Grigorenko loose on the KHL's Western Conference, Mytischi played a more conservative style, relying on veterans such as former NHLers Jan Bulis, Oleg Petrov, and Jaroslav Obsut.  Just reaching the Finals is a testament to Atlant's disciplined style of play, as they had to knock off much more high profile teams from Yaroslavl and St. Petersburg to do so.  But while they did finish 8th in the league in points, they haven't seen the likes of Ufa, who finished 2nd. 

This series will be a challenge for the underdog, because unlike some of the other KHL teams, Ufa's top players are generally younger and in their prime.  Only Proshkin amongst regular blueliners is over 30, with the work being shared by Kirill Koltsov (28), Andrei Kuteikin (26), Miroslav Blatak (28), Maxim Kondratiev (28) and Dmitri Kalinin (30).  Oleg Tverdovsky hasn't played a lot in the playoffs to date.  Up front, while led by a fairly young top line (24-27), Ufa does have a lot of veterans in support roles:  Vyacheslav Kozlov , Viktor Kozlov , Vladimir Antipov, Sergei Zinovyev and Petr Schastlivy are all over 30.  In fact, the names of all their forwards are familiar to international and NHL fans:  Robert Nilsson , Alexander Svitov, Oleg Saprykin and Jakub Klepis round out the group, all former NHL players.

For Atlant, their veteran roster, with only one of their top six D under the age of 30 (and no top forwards under 30, either), this might be their one shot at a championship.  The team has never won either a Russian Superleague title or the Gagarin Cup, and for players like former NHLer Oleg Petrov, this is probably the last shot at the KHL's top prize.  The team got three extra days rest by winning their Conference Final in six games, and they probably needed to use it.  Atlant does have younger regulars on their roster, but they generally only play a few shifts per game, if that. 

The low event style of game for Atlant probably suits them well, but I don't know how they can manage to keep up against Ufa's speed, skill, and depth.  There is no advantage to be seen in goal, with Erik Ersberg and Konstantin Barulin posting almost identical numbers, and even in terms of recent playoff experience Ufa has them beat.  Luckily for Atlant, Ufa isn't that far away from the Moscow region, so travel shouldn't play a major role. 

I'm predicting that Ufa, winners of the last Superleague title back in 2008, will become the second team to win the Gagarin Cup, and will prevail in five games.  They have a seriously well built team that would honestly compete in the NHL.  They represent the potential of the league, while Atlant represents closer to the reality, as a team full of players who played themselves out of the NHL.

The windy Russian autumn weather might be a little bit tricky for sailing, but it doesn’t stop brave yachtsmen from all over the world from flocking to Russian capital in the beginning of September when the Moscow Yacht Show commences. The main Russian Yacht exhibition gathers professional and amateur yacht lovers together under the wing of The Royal Yacht Club.

This year it took place for a fourth time already. The exhibition is considered the principal event on the sporting and social calendar. The Moscow Yacht Show 2010 united in one area three of the largest Russian yachts distributors: Ultramarine, Nordmarine and Premium Yachts.

A wide range of yachts were on display for a week. An exhibition showcased yachts both from Russian manufacturers and world famous brands: Azimut, Princess, Ferretti, Pershing, Riviera, Doral, Linssen, etc.

It was a real feast for seafarers as visitors of the show had a unique chance not only to take a look at the newest superyachts before they hit the market, but also to evaluate their driving advantages during the test drive. The show provided an excellent opportunity for yacht enthusiasts to choose and buy a new boat for the next season.

The event started with the grandiose gala evening. It included grand dinner, the concert and professional awards ceremony for achievements in Russian yachting industry. The guests also enjoyed the annual regatta.

Special guest Paolo Vitelli, Azimut Benetti Group president, opened the evening.

Next year organizers assured guests they would bring more yachts, the scale of which will even make oligarch Roman Abramovich envious. Sounds very promising indeed.
