Alexander Marine currently has Lanikai , an Ocean Alexander 100 Skylounge , listed for sale with an asking price of $9.8 million. The 2019 motor yacht has a five-stateroom layout, a crew quarters and engines with very low hours. Let’s take a closer look.

When Yachting first reported on the 100 Skylounge we noted at the time that “Ocean Alexander already offers a 90-footer with a four-stateroom layout whose guest spaces would qualify as VIP suites on most yachts. With its OA 100 Skylounge, the builder has added an on-deck master, much like the kind aboard superyachts. That’s one reason why Ocean Alexander calls the 100 Skylounge the entry-level yacht in its six-model mega-yacht series, which stretches up to 155 feet length overall.”

Lanikai ’s five-staterooms accommodate 10 guests, making chartering an option for owners looking to offset some expenses. The sleeping accommodations include a split-level, main-deck master stateroom with a king berth, an ensuite head, stowage, a walk-in closet and custom-engineered windows incorporating aluminum beams and “sandwiched glass” construction allowing for a reported “28 percent improved visibility and incoming light.”

Belowdecks are four guest staterooms, including the mirrored VIP spaces amidships with double berths, walk-in closets and ensuite heads. Forward, are the final two guest staterooms with side-by-side berths that slide together to form queens.

Natural light from the salon’s near sole-to-ceiling windows, combined with light neutral tones, walnut soles and semi-gloss wood finishes, create a sense of warmth and volume to this yacht’s interior. Moving through the salon, guests will notice how furniture defines the entertainment spaces with a long C-shaped sofa, coffee table and two lounge chairs to port, and a semi-gloss wood cabinet to starboard. Formal dining is forward of the salon with a semi-gloss wood table and eight dining chairs.Stairs to starboard lead to the 100-footer’s sky lounge.

The enclosed galley is just forward of the formal dining area and is equipped with a wrap-around counter, a 30-inch Thermador electric cooktop, a 30-inch Thermador electric oven, a Sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer, ice maker and wine cooler, a Whirlpool garbage disposal, a Thermador dishwasher and a Whirlpool trash compactor.

The enclosed sky lounge section of Lanikai ’s flybridge has seating for guests with an L-shaped sofa abaft the three-seat helm station. A flat-screen TV can be pulled down for guests to watch the game and still have ocean views.

Lanikai ’s 22-foot Novurania 600 LX tender is outfitted with a 200 hp Yamaha outboard and is stowed on the after section of the flybridge. It’s worth noting the tender is included in the sale. Forward of the tender stowage and winch to starboard is a grill and a three-person bar with fixed stools. A drop-down flat-screen TV can be pulled down behind the bar.

Speaking of exterior spaces, the cockpit has a 10-person U-shaped settee with two fixed tables–giving it enough space for alfresco dining even with a full yacht. Wide side decks lead to the foredeck seating with a hi-low table, which converts to sun pad, making it a great spot to enjoy sunshine or sundowners.

Power is a pair of 1,920 hp MTU 12V2000 diesels, which reportedly give Lanikai 24-knot top speed and a cruising speed of 18 knots. The engines only have 450 hours on them.

Some other notable features on board include a full Garmin electronics package, underwater lights, two day heads, Starlink Wifi, engine room air conditioning and five kayaks with custom covers.

MIAMI. OCEAN ALEXANDER 100: THE AMERICAN WAY TO BIG YACHTS

Ocean Alexander is the yacht line ranging from 70 up to 155 feet built by Alexander Marine International. The American shipyard based in Seattle approaches to motorboats in a very pragmatic way, trying to maximize owner and guests’ enjoyment aboard. Exteriors are important but not excessive, with glazed surfaces perfectly incorporated into a reassuring whole in the traditional style of the brand. Interiors are bright, with classic lines and offer a wonderful view on the sea, as it is customary today.

We visited the 100-feet flybridge model exhibited at the Miami Boat Show these days. The upper deck accommodates the main pilot station, located on the starboard side and enjoying a 360-degree view. The designer Evan K. Marshall has maximized the ergonomic efficiency of the boat by redesigning the location of both display and controls in order to make the captain’s life easier. The rest of the deck is entirely reserved for guests.

According to the shipyard, the new Ocean Alexander 100 flybridge is the largest yacht in its class . What certainly stands out is the large wet bar equipped with six seats which forms a counterpoint with the lunch table for 8 guests. Below the canvas structure which closes the aft deck there are a hot tub and a sun pad for two people.  On the main deck, we immediately note the great work carried out by both designers and workers. The first room is a large bright saloon with a talking area on the left. Then, we enter the lunch zone, where all furnishings and wardrobes have been arranged around the formal 8-people table. All around, there’s room enough for a dishwasher and many other appliances. The wet bar, as a part of this zone, is functional for both the saloon and the lunch area.

In the galley , the arrangement of both counters and accessories will allow the chef to manage parties, lunches, cocktails , drinks and dinners professionally without any course limit. A wide pantry offers the necessary volume to stow dry food, snacks and spices while a wine cooler with cooled drawers makes the galley perfect for both shipping activity and charter market.

On the left of the inner wheelhouse, which is a perfect copy of the main pilot station installed on the fly bridge, a small lounge, named “Country Kitchen”, is the ideal place for informal meals or a relaxing cup of coffee. It features a warm wooden floor, a table, a large L-shape seat and three armchairs. Crew staff can easily access to the kitchen.

The saloon and the sitting room are also the entertainment centre of the boat; this is why they’ve been equipped with a tv, an audio-video system, a bar corner with a small cellar and an ice maker.

The 100′ Ocean Alexander is also available in a Skylounge version, where the fly bridge is replaced by an additional saloon which promises to be the guests’ favourite place. It will be equipped with a big tv, a table with raised seats and a toilet.

Sleeping quarters are on the lower deck. The full-beam master cabin is at midship,  in the widest point of the hull and, as usual for boats of this size, it has a central king-size bed. Three lateral vertical windows flood it with natural light and the feeling of width is guaranteed by the presence of walk-in closet which prevents from needing additional lockers. The suite is separated from the engine room by two toilets ( for men and ladies respectively), both equipped with a shower box decorated with stone walls.

Always on the upper deck, the base of the private ladder providing access to the master cabin hides a small recess which accommodates a washer-dryer unit together with an additional space where to stow cleaning products and other materials.

Other three cabins complete the interior layout .

A Vip cabin is on the bow, equipped with a queen-size bed and (like all the other cabins) an entertainment audio-video system; the other two guest cabins, which receive light from two lateral windows, can have a double bed or two twin ones.

Crew quarters host three cabins and include captain’s rooms and a desk equipped with a N2KWiev system connected to a iPad device in order to check all the on-board systems.

The boat is fitted with two Cat C-32 Acert engines, each outputting 1925 HP.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Two significant features noticed immediately in the boat are its upward scaled quarters which makes it look like a very large ship; the highlighted natural light with large side windows also make the Ocean Alexander 100 stand out. It gives off a very modern appeal with its long light and dark fabric combination and a fascinating custom-fit cabinetry in the formal dining area. The galley features marble countertops, equipment from Thermador, Fisher and Paykel, Viking, Sub-Zero and Whirlpool; it also has a well-stocked pantry

The open galley, with its tall bar chairs, is a very nice place to relax; moving forward is the lounge area whose flamboyant wood is eye catching. The L-shaped settee is ideal for relaxing with a cup of coffee or for casual dining. The four staterooms each have their own en suite head designed with marble counter tops and soles. Sounds are reduced to the barest minimum in the sound insulated full beam master; the master features handmade nightstands, a love seat, large walk-in closet, and his-and-hers head arrangement.

CONSTRUCTION

There is a skylounge version of the 100; this version doesn’t use the lower helm, but instead has a custom-made deck which provides the owner with a clear view from behind the triple-chair helm station. A high density structural foam coring is used in the construction, beyond the proposed waterline in the stringer system; cross-knit directional carbon fiber is used in the hull, longitudinal stringers and cross members; high-density structural foam is used.

The engine room is polished with a spectacular expanse of sparkly stainless steel. Large work spaces and 7 foot overheads makes it overly easy to access the 1,925-horsepower Caterpillar C32 ACERTS; plumbing hydraulics and electrical wiring are colour coded and labelled for easy identification.

PERFORMANCE

The 100 is steady and moves comfortably. She’s very easy to handle in both cruising and docking modes. The rudders are very responsive and entry is sleek (without any slapping), due to the shape of the hull. It often feels like there is a ton of weight beneath but this doesn’t stop the 100 from handling itself remarkably well even on a rough sea. Ocean Alexandra is very economical in fuel consumption in the low end and although it consumes more in the higher end, it is still average due to the hull form which is a slippery semi-displacement form.

Sweet spots noted; Fuel consumed just 24 gallons per hour at 10 to 12 knots at 1,100 rpm in displacement mode, and the second was in semi displacement mode, when the fuel burn is 140 gallons per hour at 20 knots between 1,800 and 2,100 rpm.
