When 70-metre M/Y JOY’s owner commissioned the yacht’s creation, his brief was simple. “Create something totally different to every other yacht”.

To achieve this not insignificant challenge a distinguished team was assembled to create this one of a kind vessel. Launched in 2016, JOY is a yacht of many firsts, including the first exterior by famed superyacht interior design house Bannenberg & Rowell, the first superyacht interior by Studio Indigo , and also the first superyacht for her visionary owner. Build work was masterfully executed by world-renowned shipyard Feadship.

A strong collaborative approach between all involved in JOY’s creation resulted in a yacht that was truly unique and special. The perfect blend of comfortable modernism and striking design JOY boasts five light-filled decks with unrivalled expansive outdoor spaces. Her designers applied elegant sculpted lines and an imaginative use of glass to build a yacht with true synergy between the indoors and outdoors.

superyacht joy

The brief to create a totally unique yacht is immediately evident in JOY’s sculpted superstructure, which blends concave shapes and scalloped forms with expanses of glass to create a sleek, textured profile that stands out from her peers.

Her design is defined by huge outdoor spaces that perfectly capture the charm of outdoor living. Generous wide walkways around the yacht, unseen on other yachts her size, hark back to the promenade decks of the golden days of yachting.

JOY’s extended foredeck doubles as a games court and links directly with the master cabin thanks to floor to ceiling windows that seamlessly connect both spaces.

All exterior spaces have been designed to be extremely versatile, and all three aft decks can be enclosed with full-height sliding glass panels creating winter gardens on the main, owner and bridge decks aft, increasing the volume and creating havens even in inclement weather

Interior Design

Inside, Studio Indigo was responsible for JOY’s vibrant interior that includes an extremely flexible cabin layout for up to 12 guests in seven cabins. A centrally located cantilevered timber spiral staircase that wraps around a glass elevator connects each deck and sets the tone, providing a reference point for guests no matter where they are on the yacht.

The meticulous planning of every detail to create a rich palette of colour and luxurious styling has been achieved by commissioning each piece of furniture, cushion, artwork and accessory, creating memorable spaces throughout the yacht. The result is a showcase of some of the best craftsmanship and yacht workmanship available.

ACCOMMODATION

JOY’s accommodation layout is extremely versatile and is easily tailored to suit groups of all sizes. She is able to welcome up to 12 guests in seven beautifully styled cabins, including the show stopping master suite which boasts 270-degree views and direct access onto the owner’s private terrace, 1 VIP stateroom, 4 double cabins and 1 twin cabin. Each cabin has its own identity and feel, providing living spaces with their own personality. Family groups will appreciate the main deck layout with the Master and two double cabins amidships, which provides the perfect set up for families with children.

JOY is capable of carrying up to 19 crew onboard to ensure the ultimate luxury yacht experience

Launched in 2016, the breath-taking 70-meter Bannenberg & Rowell superyacht Hull 812 JOY is a striking vessel, built by the leading Dutch shipyard, Feadship. JOY features exterior design by Bannenberg & Rowell, while her interior design is by Studio Indigo Ltd. She can accommodate up to twelve guests in seven cabins and has a crew of nineteen.

NOTABLE FEATURES: ~ Spa centre ~ Beach club convertible into a nightclub ~ Elevator ~ Gym ~ Ondeck Jacuzzi ~ Stabilisers ~ Exterior & interior styling by bespoke designers ~ Abundance of natural light in the interior ~ Vast exterior sunning & entertainment areas ~ Basketball court ~ Swim platform

JOY is certainly one of the premier new superyachts available in the charter market. She features a great wealth of exterior spaces which blur the traditional boundaries between inside and outside. She is also the first superyacht to feature an exterior design by Bannenberg & Rowell and the first Feadship with an interior by the architects at Studio Indigo. The result is an astonishing private yacht which has faithfully met the owner’s brief to produce a boat that’s ‘completely different to every other yacht.’

A Joy To Behold:

Yacht JOY is a testament to Feadship’s single-minded production of quality and ongoing uncompromised attention to detail, as well as Bannenberg & Rowell (and the owners’) design flair.

M/Y JOY was launched and then delivered by Feadship to her owner in July 2016. Joy provides rare size, quality and outright prestige to the international yacht charter market. A superior superyacht in many ways she embodies a very successful collaboration of Bannenberg and Rowell Design and Feadship. While Bannenberg and Rowell penned her beautiful exterior lines, the famous Dutch yacht builder Feadship crafted her custom lines. A fresh approach to the yachts essential design shape has created rather inventive and innovative exterior styling. The yacht features gorgeous artistic, yet natural, shapes as well as slightly novel concave lines. By solving a number of the complex yacht building challenges associated with the yacht Feadship brought this wonderful project to life.

Outside In: Joy features extensive outdoor social and private spaces throughout her impressive five decks. This along with the ample use of windows and artistic use of glass to maximise the outside views enables a wonderful harmony between the exterior and interior, which is so sought after by contemporary yacht designers. For instance, ‘winter gardens’ zones were created to further enhance the comfort of the social spaces with pockets of air conditioned areas both inside and out. The overall result is a superior ocean lifestyle experience for those aboard, so crucial for the best luxury charter yacht vacations.

Studio Indigo designed Joy’s vivacious and inspired contemporary classic interior, as seen in the images. Her flexible seven cabin layout means she can accommodate a full 12 guests comfortably, which is also a popular feature in the charter market. Additional noteworthy features include a three-deck elevator and a principal focus on health and wellness facilities, such as a large gym, a spa room and an onboard masseuse.

“Joy is a testimony to what can be achieved when you genuinely start a superyacht build with a blank sheet of paper,” concludes Feadship director Jan-Bart Verkuyl. “The owner’s wishes have been successfully combined with Feadship’s experience and the excellent teams from Studio Indigo and Bannenberg & Rowell to fashion a truly pioneering 70-meter yacht.”

joy feadship yacht underway

Joy: On board Feadship’s 70m superyacht with a basketball court and disco

The owner's first yacht,   Joy is a 70 metre Feadship , but this is one owner for whom size is not everything.

The bigger the saloon, the less it gets used. Despite this being one of the few generally accepted rules of superyacht design, boats are still pouring out of sheds with wide-open acreage on their main and upper decks. Designers earn their money making these spaces feel as comfortable as possible, but there’s often no hiding the fact that they’re just really big rooms. And who feels comfortable putting their feet up in one of those?

Clearly not the owner of 70 metre Joy , who has pulled off something of a magic trick with this, his very first yacht: he’s made it feel cosy. “I did not want some floating villa with vast internal spaces compromising the relationship with the ocean and the interior,” he says.

“We did not need to be compromised by some preset platform or convention. We designed Joy with our own lifestyle and vision in mind.” To achieve this, volume has been turned right down. Joy carries fewer gross tonnes (around 1,100) than any other 70 metre motor yacht on the water.

Even Heesen ’s low-slung and sporty Galactica Super Nova is packing a bigger interior. Benetti ’s stacked 70 metre Freedom , by comparison, has almost twice the internal volume, at 1,975GT. “I wanted a yacht that was progressive and not afraid of challenging convention,” Joy ’s owner adds, consigning the superyachting mantra of “more and bigger” to the dustbin.

Actually, that’s not quite true of the whole boat. By keeping the interior human-sized, the decks have been exaggerated. You can comfortably walk two abreast down Joy ’s ample side decks, protected the entire time by the high bulwarks and deck overhang above.

The owner’s deck, meanwhile, should really be known as the “promenade deck”. You can stroll hand in hand around the entire superstructure, all on one level. You could even jog in tandem. Feadship claims there’s more teak on Joy than any other comparable superyacht. I can believe it — it just keeps going, ending up on the owner’s deck in a basketball and badminton court all the way forward.

Joy wasn’t always going to have such expansive outside spaces; she grew from 50 metres to 63 metres and finally to 70 metres. Simon Rowell, creative director at Bannenberg & Rowell , which designed her exterior and layout, says: “Once Joy was mapped out and engineered [at 63 metres], the owner asked us to study a longer prow, in essence for two simple reasons: he felt that a longer external foredeck visually gave more breathing space between hull and superstructure and leant the yacht an elegant stance on the water; secondly, he would benefit from a very large terrace forward of his suite, effectively extending his family deck significantly.”

It was a savvy move from the young owner, whose defiance of yachting norms extended to his choice of collaborators in the creation of his boat. Joy is the first exterior design by Bannenberg & Rowell to hit the water, while for the interior he turned to London-based Studio Indigo , which had designed boats before but never on the scale of Joy .

The company is led by Mike Fisher, who said he was asked to create an interior that was “unique and non-boat like”. He continues: “The client and his wife are young, energetic and visionary. They look to the future and rarely to the past. They hoped the design of Joy would create a real sense of contentment and comfort, without making the boat feel like every other yacht and avoiding the clichéd details that would date in years to come.”

The approach has led to an interior that’s not easy to pigeonhole, but which Fisher describes as “vintage, without being overtly fashionable”.  Equally outside-the-box is Joy ’s superstructure, which looks as if it was carved.

“We wanted to connect with the surroundings, to garner the best views,” says James Carley, director of exterior design at Bannenberg & Rowell. “Chamfering the edges [of the superstructure overhangs] effectively raises the external deckheads, both around the side walkways and the overhanging aft decks.” This drive to provide a generous outlook from every internal space led to some “ongoing but friendly” battles with Feadship, says Rowell, who with Carley pushed to make sills and coamings on Joy as minimal as possible, to allow the maximum possible glazing.

The best example of this is to the rear of the bridge deck, where the entire space has been given over to Joy’s glass-walled superyacht gym , kitted out with the latest Technogym equipment. It’s a hybrid space — both inside and outside — and was an important requirement for the owner, who says enthusiastically: “The gym on the bridge deck may be the best place to work out anywhere in the world!”

Carley adds that he would have removed the entire structure from this area if he could, but the exhaust casings were non-negotiable. Still, Joy ’s gym is an incredibly bright and inviting space, one that is actually quite hard to walk through without an urge to better yourself — a benefit of placing a wellness area like this in an unavoidable part of a yacht, rather than squirrelling it away on a lower deck.

Double stairs forward sweep up to the superyacht sundeck and its pool, which together create an exclusive perch at the top of Joy . The gym’s blurring of what is exterior and interior extends across the main and upper decks, which both have winter gardens that can be closed off with glass to take them from outside to inside with a nod to a deckhand.

The challenge for Studio Indigo was managing this interface, to make sure there’s no jarring as you enter the yacht proper. “We used a great many finishes and textiles as well as materials and styling of furniture to make the exteriors feel like an extension of the interior spaces,” says Fisher. “Moreover, each living area has windows looking out on to the wide walkways — making the rooms feel much larger than they are.”

Then there are the carpets in Joy ’s upper and main saloons that demand you walk barefoot, drawing you into the comfortable interior. The main saloon’s is silk and nettle and made by German firm Jan Kath, represented by Front Rugs. The seating in here is low and comfortable, while an Irish whiskey bar to starboard, made in the UK by Silverlining, keeps things social.

The only other saloon on Joy , on the upper deck, couldn’t feel more different. This is very deliberately a family space. “There were certain vital principles that we were determined to achieve to make the yacht work and flow with different groups and situations,” the owner says. “There are elements such as the owner’s deck, which is almost a penthouse so I can be alone with my family.” Joy ’s layout reflects this, with a master suite forward and a pair of double cabins amidships for the two children the only accommodation on this level.

Studio Indigo used more than 250 finishes throughout Joy — “too many to mention!” jokes Fisher. “We gave each area its own unique and highly individual character by using diverse materials and patterns. We didn’t just want to give each cabin a theme, we wanted to make each one an experience — a memorable space full of colour and texture.”

The design for each room started with a single item, playing on the owner’s love of tactile materials. A Yastik cushion, for instance, was the initial building block for the owner’s and VIP cabins on Joy . Hand-woven ikat fabric from Indonesia and Suzani textiles from central Asia informed other areas. “These materials tell their own stories using colour, weave and pattern. The story of these cushions seemed to fit perfectly with the client’s vision and the feel of what we were all aiming to achieve,” adds the designer.

His proudest achievement on Joy is the central cantilevered superyacht staircase , which winds up from the lower deck around a lift shaft. You ascend on hand-woven carpeted pads past windows, beautiful églomisé panels made by DKT Artworks and oak marquetry.

You emerge at Joy ’s bridge deck, which, apart from the gym, has an office that is treated to its own fold-down superyacht balcony , mirroring one on the starboard side. No hydraulics or electrics are used — “they have been developed to be operated manually, by simply pushing down”, says Carley.

Electrics and hydraulics are required, however, for the other openings on board Joy . Two sections of bulwark fold down pantograph-style, forward on the main deck, to release the tenders stored there. And the large transom door levers up, to create a shade for the bathing platform and to open up the superyacht beach club .

The other access to the beach club is via a set of bomb bay doors on the main deck. They reveal a cinema space, with beanbag chairs and a huge video wall made by VBH, which can be used to screen movies or play computer games. And in the teak floor — the owner’s star sign displayed in LEDs.

It’s Rowell’s favourite part of Joy . “The combination of bomb bay doors and pivoting transom door is very successful. The visual connection between decks, particularly when one considers having parents on the main deck and kids on the swim platform, really proved worthwhile. The geometry and engineering of these features is not easy, but the relatively compact lower deck beach club ‘den’ is immeasurably improved by this interaction.”

Feadship has kept everything squeak-free, as you’d expect. It’s a testament to Joy ’s build quality, too, that while underway, even with all that glass and those huge overhangs — features that terrify engineers tasked with keeping a yacht quiet — there is not a rattle to be heard.

In fact, the ship is almost eerily silent when running, even when weaving figures of eight in two metre seas for the photographer in the helicopter hovering above. “She is my first Feadship,” says the captain after the shoot. “I have been impressed with the overall build standard and attention to detail. Joy is very stable and quiet as a mouse underway.”

To stay out of the images, everyone on board is asked to hide away in Joy ’s main saloon. I sink into the sofa scattered with Holland & Sherry cushions to wait it out, as the skipper swings us left and right. It’s only a few seconds before I’m forcing down the urge to put my feet up on the custom coffee table. But the fact that I want to — feel irresistibly compelled to — tells you everything you need to know about Joy .

Joy is managed by Burgess with charters starting from €700,000 per week .

By Oliver Pearson   25 July 2016

Sure to please discerning charterers the world over, it has been revealed that the hotly anticipated 70m/230ft motor yacht JOY from Feadship  will be available for  luxury charter vacations.

Launched and delivered from Feadship’s Kaag yard, JOY is unquestionably one of the most talked about motor yachts  of 2016.

Regarded as a wholly cohesive vessel, a great deal of the critical attention has been attentive to the seamless flow between her exterior and interior spaces.

What’s more, the project ushered in a new era for Bannenberg & Rowell , with the yacht being the first to be designed by the iconic team since the passing of their legendary founder, Jon Bannenberg, back in 2002.

Though images of the interior are yet to be published, Studio Indigo, the team behind the design, have released a statement which describes how their elegant and rich styling comfortably met the owner’s brief to ‘create something totally different to every other yacht’- obviously, images of the interior are now being eagerly awaited.

With both summer and winter low rates beginning at €600,000 per week, and the high rates coming in at €700,000, there’s sure to be plenty of interest amongst those looking to experience the very best the superyacht world has to offer.

Having spent a short period of time in English waters following her delivery, superyacht JOY has now headed to the Mediterranean .

Already developing an enviable reputation, there will no doubt be plenty of interest in chartering superyacht JOY

Looking to be a truly entertaining superyacht, the broad swim platform of JOY is sure to make boarding tenders or simply diving into the water entirely effortless.

Similarly, the cantilevered timber spiral staircase situated at the centre of the interior is sure to have guests navigating the various decks in complete style.

Perhaps the crowning accomplishment of the vessel, however, is the highly praised owner’s suite which boasts 270-degree wraparound windows to allow for outstanding visibility when underway or at anchor.

With a total of seven further staterooms, luxury yacht JOY is capable of accommodating up to twelve guests whilst being chartered.

Joy – Running Heli

Featuring a great wealth of exterior spaces and a contemporary classic interior, the 70-metre Joy is the first superyacht to feature an exterior design by Bannenberg & Rowell and the first Feadship with an interior by the architects at Studio Indigo. The result is an astonishing superyacht which truly meets the owner’s brief to ‘create something totally different to every other yacht.’

All Feadships are, of course, pure custom creations and the vast majority are built for experienced sailors. The Joy project, however, was predicated on a fresh perspective, as the client is completely new to the industry and has never owned a superyacht before. The first of many distinctive aspects to result from this approach is the radical exterior styling, which brought with it a raft of challenges for the yard in terms of construction, fairing and painting.

The sweetest driver and the most amazing relaxing time. We didn't have to worry about anything. Really throughly enjoyed our time. We drove to San Francisco to a wedding, my aunts and uncles are older and it's hard for them to see in long drives outside of our city. This was a treat! It was around 30+ of us. Super friendly customer service, everything was easy and smooth. The bus was clean as a whistle and we were able to play our own music. Bluetooth connected, waters and a TV! We brought our own snacks and a little bit of wine, we had a blast.

We rented a party bus for my husband and I's 30th and it was incredible! Mark was awesome and made sure we all got there and back safely, and we got sooo many compliments from our friends that came. Plenty of space, super clean ride and overall just a great time! Definitely recommend!

Mark was a great help and made sure the day went smoothly for us. I would recommend him and his services. Thank you!

I had my senior ball on 5/5 and Mark was amazing! I found him on yelp and had messaged him starting from February because I knew how crazy prom season would be. I copied part of the message he sent me for the quote I asked for: "The following land yacht is available for your 6 hour (5:45p-11:45p) event on the date you've requested.  30-36 passenger - $1,695.00 Our prices INCLUDE ALL FEES AND CHAUFFEUR'S GRATUITY, as well as complimentary ice and bottled water." I had 32 people on my bus and we all had enough space! The water was definitely awesome for the end of the night but Mark was so responsible and got us to SF city hall on time and safely. He was so quick at replying to my messages and I have had looked into many other places and this was the most accommodating and reasonably priced. Highly recommend !!

superyacht joy

Our group had an amazing time! Mark arrived on time to pick us up and the bus was clean and spacious. The bathroom on board was an added plus. The pricing is very favorable to other companies and the bus has everything you need. I wish I had taken pictures of the interior because the other photos on here don't do it justice. There's also a TV that you can stream to. We ended up extending our reservation an hour because we didn't want it to end. We will definitely be using Mark again in the future.

First class experience from pickup, journey, to drop off. Our chauffeur Kelvin provided us with a safe and wonderful experience to make for a good time. Will definitely be hiring this company for future corporate events and celebrations. Keep up your good work. Thank you.

I had my 40th birthday bash and Mark was amazing. Bus was very clean and roomy with a bathroom which was a plus. Hands down, book with Pacific Land Yachts if you are looking for a party bus. Would definitely do business again!

superyacht joy

Mark is pretty darn awesome! We chartered his land yacht for a work event. Everyone had an amazing time, and everyone said that they would definitely want to work with Mark again for both future and personal events that require group transportation. FIVE STARS ALL THE WAY!

I rented a bus for my brothers 30th birthday and it was an unforgettable night! The bus was in great condition and so much bigger than I imagined. It even had a restroom which was helpful because we had it reserved for 5 hours. The driver was fantastic and let us blast our music and dance the whole time. I would highly recommend this company to anyone looking for a good time!!

Great driver. Smooth sailing for a large group of 30+! Very nice clean bus (with a bathroom!!) We had such a great time. I can't wait to do it again.

Sony Music Publishing today announced it has acquired the catalog of Tame Impala singer/ songwriter/ producer Kevin Parker , who has also worked extensively with Dua Lipa, Rihanna, SZA, Kendrick Lamar Gorillaz and more. The deal, which expands the company’s 15-year partnership with Parker, encompasses his entire catalog of songs as well as future works. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Popular on Variety

Parker said of the deal, “The idea of passing on ownership of my songs is one that I don’t think about very lightly, at all. They are the fruit of my blood, sweat and creativity over all the years I’ve been a recording artist and songwriter so far. I have a lot of love and trust for the Sony publishing family and have only had great experiences with Damian Trotter and the rest of the gang worldwide. I don’t think my songs could be in any safer hands than Sony’s, and I’m excited for the future and happy I can keep working with them on whatever the future brings…”

Trotter, managing director of Sony Music Publishing Australia, said, “Kevin is a singular talent whose creativity and dedication to his art has enthralled fans and artists since he arrived on the music scene. Having worked with Kevin since before the release of the first Tame Impala album, it has been thrilling to witness his rise to success worldwide, which is so well deserved. We are proud and humbled to be taking custodianship of this iconic catalogue of songs and to be continuing our relationship with Kevin in this exciting phase of his music making career.”

Diddy's son Christian 'King' Combs releases 50 Cent diss track, references federal raids

superyacht joy

Diss tracks are all the rage, and the latest installment comes from Sean "Diddy" Combs ' son Christian "King" Combs .

On Sunday night, King Combs released a song titled " Pick a Side ," which references federal agents' raid of Diddy's two homes in March and Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson 's continuous social media posts on the Bad Boy Entertainment founder's recent legal trouble.

"Police raid the crib like they think we selling crack, but we out here selling tracks / Multimillion dollar plaques," the 26-year-old raps in one verse. In another verse referencing the raid, he raps: "Knock these doors down like them feddy boys running both our cribs / Too bad they ain't know we bought the one next door cause that's the one they missed."

Diverting his attention to 50 Cent, King Combs raps, "When all they had was 50 Cent who put this city on the map? Stop lyin'.

"Pops been hated on by many men and that's fine/ They gon' try to stop these M's and they gon' die tryin'," he continues, citing 50 Cent's song "Many Men" and album "Get Rich or Die Tryin.'"

How 50 Cent responded to King Combs' diss

50 Cent was quick to respond on Instagram with sarcasm, captioning one photo of King Combs and Diddy, "I feel so threatened by the things Christian is saying on his record. I'm afraid for my life, please don't hurt me guys. I never mentioned or posted anything about puffy's kids because KEEFE D said he killed 2Pac. LOL."

The latter half referred to Duane "Keffe D" Davis , who was indicted by a Nevada grand jury in September for the 1996 drive-by shooting of rapper Tupac Shakur; rumors have circulated for decades that Diddy was responsible for orchestrating the Las Vegas shooting.

In another post , the "21 Questions" rapper wrote: "Now why would you say some(thing) like this 🤦when you know the FEDS are investigating. IS YOU STUPID OR IS YOU DUMB? LOL."

He followed with yet another Instagram post , this time with screenshots of media coverage, and wrote, "I really don’t understand why they want to drug women, 🤷🏽‍♂️if she can’t remember how good it was the next morning 😳How do you connect ?"

USA TODAY reached out to reps for 50 Cent and Combs.

50 Cent and Diddy have had a decades-long feud, with the "Power" producer alleging he is doing a documentary on the Bad Boy rapper's sexual assault allegations called "Diddy Do It?"

50 Cent sues ex Daphne Joy after she accused him of sexual assault and abuse

King Combs accused of sexual assault in April lawsuit

King Combs' diss track referencing the Combs family's legal trouble comes a month after the 26-year-old was accused of sexual assault, sexual harassment and causing emotional distress in a lawsuit filed by Grace O'Marcaigh.

O'Marcaigh alleged King sexually assaulted her in late December 2022, according to filings from Los Angeles County Superior Court obtained by  NBC News  and  Rolling Stone . O'Marcaigh was working as a steward on the yacht chartered by the Combs family.

The alleged assault occurred days before Diddy put on a star-studded New Year's Eve yacht party.

The lawyer for O'Marcaigh, Tyrone Blackburn, is also representing  Rodney "Lil Rod" Jones , a producer on Diddy's latest album who accused the music mogul of sexual assault and harassment in a February lawsuit.

In a statement shared with USA TODAY in April, Aaron Dyer, the attorney for both the Combses , addressed the allegations leveled by O'Marcaigh.

“This is just another lewd and meritless claim from Tyrone Blackburn — just like what he filed in the Rodney Jones lawsuit, which he still has not served. This complaint is filled with the same kind of manufactured lies and irrelevant facts we’ve come to expect from Blackburn," Dyer said.

King was also named in that lawsuit filed last month by Lil Rod. According to the complaint, Lil Rod witnessed the rapper "drugging and sexually assaulting a woman."

In addition to King's lawsuit, Diddy has faced several has faced several legal actions in recent months, including suits by ex-girlfriend  Cassie , "The Love Album" producer  Rodney "Lil Rod" Jones Jr. and a Jane Doe alleging she was gang-raped when she was 17 by the music mogul and  former Bad Boy Entertainment executive Harve Pierre .

He has denied all the allegations.

Federal officials raided Diddy's Los Angeles home in March, according to  Rolling Stone  and local Los Angeles news station  Fox 11 , amid  lawsuits  filed against him from accusers alleging the rapper and music mogul has  raped  or  sexually assaulted  them. Agents also searched Combs' Miami residence, Rolling Stone,  NBC News  and  The Associated Press  reported.

When reached for comment regarding the case, a Homeland Security Investigations spokesperson said in a statement to USA TODAY that "Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) New York executed law enforcement actions as part of an ongoing investigation, with assistance from HSI Los Angeles, HSI Miami, and our local law enforcement partners. We will provide further information as it becomes available."

Up, Up and Not OK: Letting Go of Balloons Could Soon Be Illegal in Florida

In an effort to curb microplastics and marine pollution, state lawmakers voted to ban intentional releases.

  • Share full article

A pink balloon, half-deflated, floats in blue ocean water with a pink ribbon dragging behind it.

By Cara Buckley

Balloons released in the sky don’t go to heaven. They often end up in oceans and waterways, where they’re 32 times more likely to kill seabirds than other types of plastic debris. Despite this, humans like to release them en masse, be it to celebrate a loved one’s life or a wedding, or to reveal the gender of a baby.

The practice is on the verge of becoming illegal in Florida, where the legislature has joined a growing number of states to ban the intentional release of balloons outdoors. The Florida ban is expected to be signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis and would take effect July 1.

Florida is at the forefront of a dizzying and contentious array of statewide bans, outlawing lab grown meat , certain books from school libraries and classrooms, and most abortions after six weeks . But the balloon ban is rare for garnering widespread bipartisan support. It was championed by environmentalists and sponsored by two Republican lawmakers from the Tampa Bay area, Linda Chaney, a state representative and Nick DiCeglie, a state senator.

“Balloons contribute to the increase in microplastic pollution which is harmful to every living thing including humans, polluting our air and drinking water,” Ms. Chaney wrote in an email.

“My hope is that this bill changes the culture, making people more aware of litter in general, including balloons,” she said.

Ms. Chaney said she first heard about the perils of balloon debris in 2020. Aquatic animals often mistake balloons for jellyfish and feel full after eating them, essentially starving from the inside out. Ribbons affixed to balloons entangle turtles and manatees. Balloons also pose a threat to land animals. In her research, Ms. Chaney learned about a pregnant cow that died after ingesting a balloon while grazing. The unborn calf died too.

The bill closes a loophole in an existing Florida law that allowed for the outdoor release of up to nine balloons per person in any 24-hour period, a provision that critics say didn’t achieve the goal of reducing marine trash.

The new legislation makes it clear that balloons can pose an environmental hazard, supporters say. It equates intentionally releasing a balloon filled with a gas lighter than air with littering, a noncriminal offense that carries a fine of $150. The ban also applies to outdoor releases of any balloons described by manufacturers as biodegradable.

The ban does not restrict the sale of balloons by party suppliers or manufacturers; they could still be used indoors or as decorations outdoors if properly secured.

Balloons released by a government agency or for government sanctioned scientific purposes would be exempt from the new law. Hot air balloons recovered after launch or balloons released by children aged 6 and younger would also be exempt.

The bill counts among its supporters the Florida Retail Association as well as the Coalition for Responsible Celebration, a trade association for balloon distributors and party stores, which in a statement said it recognized “the importance of promoting responsible balloon usage and ensuring safe access to these joy-inspiring products.”

The legislation marks a win for environmentalists hamstrung by Florida legislation known as the “ban on bans,” which prohibits counties and local municipalities from regulating single use plastics and plastic bags.

Jon Paul “J. P.” Brooker, director of Florida conservation for the nonprofit group Ocean Conservancy, said that increased concern about the health of beaches, a major driver of tourism, helped conservationists and lawmakers find common ground.

“Florida is its beaches,” Mr. Brooker said, “People are not going to flock by millions to them if they’re trashed and there’s dead animals and plastic and trash all over.”

Mr. Brooker said while it remains to be seen how vigorously police will enforce the ban, the fact that they will be able to issue tickets was a good thing. “More than anything,” he added,” it gives us in the environmental community an opportunity to educate the public as to why it’s bad.”

Public sentiment in Florida against balloon releases has been growing. Earlier this year, the city of Miami Beach adopted an ordinance banning party balloons from public marinas, marine facilities, parks and public beaches. This followed the arrest of two people in 2022 who were filmed popping balloons aboard a chartered yacht and letting the remnants fall into Biscayne Bay.

The balloon release ban follows another environmental win in the state. For more than 30 years, Mr. Brooker said cigarettes were the number one form of trash found on the state’s beaches. Then in 2022, the state passed a law allowing local governments to restrict cigarette smoking and vaping on public beaches and parks. More than 50 counties and municipalities, accounting for more than 500 miles of the state’s 1,350 miles of coastline, have since outlawed smoking and vaping on beaches, Mr. Brooker said.

“This isn’t just the bailiwick of progressives, and it’s certainly not something that draws the enmity of conservatives,” Mr. Brooker said. “It’s all Floridians banding together to protect Florida’s beaches that are the backbone of our economy and the underpinning of our cultural identity.”

According to Emma Haydocy, Florida policy manager for the Surfrider Foundation, seven other states have cracked down on outdoor balloon releases. And just last week, lawmakers in North Carolina filed their version of the Florida legislation.

In lieu of releasing balloons, conservationists are urging people to instead plant a tree or toss flower petals into the water.

“There are so many other ways of celebrating that are not detrimental,” Ms. Haydocy said.

Jimmy Kimmel onstage at Disney Upfront 2024

After a two-year absence from the upfront stage, Jimmy Kimmel was back Tuesday to take aim at Bob Iger, P Diddy, CBS and the new Golden Bachelorette.

Introduced by Kerry Washington — who he said was the “last decent lead-in I ever had” — Kimmel had fun with an artificial version of Bob Iger on screen and another version of the Golden Bachelor franchise called The Golden Retriever: Love is a Bitch.

Bob Iger Returns To Upfront Stage For First Time Since 1994 With Pitchman Praise For Disney’s “Creative Excellence” & Jimmy Kimmel’s Roast To Follow

Here’s his monologue:

“It is so great to be back in the abandoned shopping cart district. And as I look out into your long dead marketing executive eyes, I am filled with a sense of enthusiasm that is truly unrivaled. I don’t know if you can tell I’m igniting pure joy right now. Two years ago, I couldn’t be here in person because I had Covid and last year I couldn’t be here because of the writers strike. And this year I couldn’t think of a third excuse. I tried diarrhea on the plane, but I guess they get that all the time now.”

“But it’s so good to be back. You’re probably wondering why I am so giddy today. Okay, I’ll tell you why. It’s because Disney is using proprietary meta-tagging data that leverages video intelligence to tap into the moods and emotions within the content we create. That’s why I’m so proud of what we’ve done here, being a part of innovations like Disney’s Magic words. Until this afternoon, I thought Disney’s magic words were Bibbidy Bobbidy, we own everything. Fuck you.”

“It would seem I was mistaken. Half the world’s population connects with Disney every day. Did we know that? I didn’t. And you know why I didn’t? We made it up. I don’t think Jesus even connects with half the world’s population every day.”

“Things are good for a change. They’re pretty good. We are back in the strong masculine hands of our once and rightful Bob, just as the prophecy foretold. Poor Bob Iger, this guy, he should be retired by now. He should be off on a yacht somewhere. Instead, he’s here pretending to be excited about a new season of Will fucking Trent.”

“Bob tried to sell us last year. He put us up for sale. And as if that wasn’t bad enough, no one wanted to buy us. No one was interested. Bob explained that he didn’t mean he literally wanted to sell us. He was just testing the waters for Wall Street. But thanks Bob. Usually when people test the waters, they dip in a toe. They don’t drown their children. But we’re glad you’re back, albeit for a limited time, which is very McRib of you. But I think what we’ve learned over the last few years is that the only Bob that can replace Bob is Bob. And with that said, I am thrilled to present the most exciting artificial CEO technology in the history of American business. Behold, Bob isn’t going anywhere ever again. We uploaded him to the cloud so that we can live in peace and prosperity under the watchful AI of the Iger.”

“By the way, that’s just the model. The real AI Bob will blast lasers out of his purchase funnel.”

“So hey, how could anyone even think about selling ABC? This is the home of The Rookie . This is the home of the Golden Bachelor. The Golden Bachelor is a key part of our strategy to steal CBS’ viewers by putting them all in a house together. As you know, Gerry, the Golden Bachelor and his bride, Theresa, decided to end their marriage after a very short union. But even though the whole thing was a complete jerk off, it was so popular. We are now launching the Golden Bachelorette, a game show where you can win an old lady. Congratulations Joan. Joan is our new golden bachelorette. She has four kids and two grandchildren. Are the kids ready to see grandma get raw dogged in a jacuzzi? Okay, now I’ll open the floor to questions.”

“Take that Legally Blonde prequel!”

“We’ve got the most highly anticipated shows of anyone, The Acolyte is about a Jedi investigating crimes. A show that’s set during the High Republic era of the Star Wars timeline, which means it takes place before The Phantom Menace and after I stopped giving a shit. We’ve got Mandalorians and Kardashians. We’re launching season five of the Kardashians on May 23rd, and there’s nothing you can do to stop us. This new season shows the Kardashians like you’ve never seen them before, assuming you’ve never seen them before, otherwise it’s exactly the same shit as the last 17 years.”

“Things are changing at CBS and not for the better. On Thursday, Young Sheldon is coming to an end after seven seasons. I know I haven’t seen it either, but what I do know is that there’s a 100% chance that somewhere at CBS headquarters right now, there is a whiteboard with the words Old Sheldon, question mark, written on it. CBS also announced this’ll be the 14th and final season of Blue Bloods . Oh man, those assholes. Your grandpa has one thing left to live for and they’re taking it away!”

“CBS renewed the Dick Wolf Show FBI for three more seasons, not just one, which is incredible. There are now more FBI agents on CBS than there were at Diddy’s house. Dick Wolf is on CBS. Dick Wolf is on NBC. We’re still dickless, but we’re crossing streams like never before. We are one unified Disney and we’re joining forces with Warner Brothers Discovery. We have Spider-Man and Superman together. I love this. The old dogs teaming up to take out the young guns. I have to say I haven’t seen this much corporate comraderie in this business since last summer when they all worked together to starve the writers.”

“We are bundling. And while from the outside, this may look like an act of desperation from the inside. It also looks like that we didn’t want to bundle. We had to. When you’re freezing to death and it’s so cold, you have to get in a sleeping bag with your uncle so you don’t die. That’s us right now. You’ve seen our churn rates. It’s not just churn, it’s Chernobyl, but not anymore. Now finally, our users, I mean guests, can turn on their TV and get all the channels in one package for one price. All supported by ads. We call it basic cable. And it’s going to blow your minds. We’re consolidating. We are building one enormous ad supported streaming pile of shit. And then we just sit back and wait for the next pandemic and let the money roll in. “

“We have a sports bundle too. ESPN is teaming up with Fox Warner Brothers and Discovery to give subscribers all the family entertainment you get on Disney plus live games, fantasy sports and betting. It’s a package we’re calling Weekend at Divorce Dad’s house.”

“Finally, all our content is available in one place and also in multiple other places too. But it must be a good idea. We’re already getting copycats. Netflix, Apple and Peacock just announced their new bundle stream saver today. What an excellent name that is. Stream Saver sounds like a catheter you might find for sale on Tucker Carlson Dot Com. And then you have NBC. You ever have a friend who buys a boat and he paid a lot of money for the boat and he’s always posting pictures of the boat? And in every conversation you have with him, he somehow finds a way to make it about the boat? That’s NBC with the Olympics.”

“Rita said, what we do best is understand audiences. And it’s true over the last 10 years, what we’ve come to understand about our audience is they would rather be watching Netflix. Remember when Netflix thought they were above all this? They came in, they destroyed commercial television. And now guess what? They want to sell you commercials on television. They spent years ignoring you, sneering at you, making you eat their Unbreakable Kimmy shit. And now those smug bee-holes have to lick your nuts like the rest of us do.”

“We still have the best buzzwords in the business. No one is more buzzed when they come up with these words than Rita and her team. We are pulling this stuff out of our ass like that. You can literally watch your money swirl all the way down the drain. So we can decide if you’re a trusted partner or a cheap ass bitch. We have the best AI analytics of anyone. We have a reach machine. Okay? How far does that machine reach? Can it reach around? Because I think that would be good.”

“Here’s the thing. Unlike some of our competitors, we don’t think of you as faceless ATMs. We pretend to give a fuck about once a year and throw shrimp at like you’re some kind of sea manatees at SeaWorld. I mean, we think of you as freedom fighters. We think of you as American heroes fighting to keep television free for the people. Remember when Elon Musk was being interviewed and he told advertisers to go fuck themselves? We would never do that. But we do want to remind you that he did.”

“Just think about how you want to live your life. The only thing that matters, the only thing that truly matters is our relationships. That our families are healthy and that the inter-operability of our various digital tools and sales platforms provide efficient data tracking and unparalleled identity management. That’s it. Let’s circle back on that next week, huh? I’ll ping you. Alright, I need to wrap it up because Rita’s ready to do a keg stand with a Kelce brother.”
