She was delivered by the famous yacht builder Delta in 1997. A well-done refit was completed in 2020/22. The spacious yacht layout features 4 cozy cabins and comfortably accommodates a group of 8 guests.

Captain: Karen Holton

Captain Karen Holtan – Karen is originally from Oregon and while growing up on a small farm watched Jacque Cousteau specials any chance she got. After becoming a SCUBA instructor, she started working full time on the water and worked her way up from deckhand/instructor to Captain. After 4 years on SCUBA vessels Karen then transferred to yachts and has had a chance to work from Canada to the Caribbean to Croatia. When not onboard helping guests, Karen loves to travel, take photos and get in the water anytime she can. First Mate/Engineer Avery Smith – Avery grew up in Charleston, South Carolina where he was never far from the water. He grew up fishing and hunting all over the Lowcountry. After graduating from Clemson University, he moved to South Florida to pursue his passion for the water professionally. He has spent the last three years working on an array of yachts and fishing boats all over the East Coast and Bahamas. Avery found that yachting combines his love for the outdoors with his interest in traveling the world. Chief Stewardess Savannah Moltzen – Savannah was born and raised in the heart of Charleston, South Carolina. While growing up near the ocean has given her a step forward in the yachting industry, she also enjoys exploring the world of everything arts, music, and travel. She loves being a part of a community that has a ton of that to offer, and it shows. After her time spent with the university of South Carolina she made her move into the yachting world in 2018. She brings the highest level of care and standards to all guests and her fellow crew, all while maintaining an energetic and well-mannered demeanor. In the future she plans on transferring her skills and success in yachting to becoming a successful AirBnB SuperHost. Deckhand/Stewardess Lauren Wilke – Lauren grew up in Blue Point, a small town on the south shore of Long Island. She grew up boating, sailing and being at the beach every summer. Volleyball has always been a huge part of her life and she was given the opportunity to advance her athletic and academic career at Stonehill College in Massachusetts. After graduating college with a degree in criminology, she worked at a vineyard on the east end of Long Island serving and learning about wine. She moved to Florida to enter the yachting industry and after only a handful of months she learned both roles of deck maintenance and interior knowledge. Yachting combines her passion for boating, traveling and meeting new people. Chef Jennifer Egli – After leaving the States to live full time in the Bahamas, Chef found the yachting industry and started working in it almost 10 years now. She started as an all-rounder mate/deck/stew cook. After a while she realized her happiest place was in the galley being creative and feeding everyone! She has lived in the Bahamas for 14 years now and has had the opportunity to travel extensively in this industry. She loves using locally sourced fresh ingredients as much as possible to prepare fresh and flavorful food for both guests and crew. Cooking has been a serious passion since she was little and now she gets to do it while living with her Bahamian husband in the islands she loves.

He grew up fishing and hunting all over the Lowcountry. After graduating from Clemson University, he moved to South Florida to pursue his passion for the water professionally. He has spent the last three years working on an array of yachts and fishing boats all over the East Coast and Bahamas. Avery found that yachting combines his love for the outdoors with his interest in traveling the world. <br /> <br /> Chief Stewardess Savannah Moltzen – Savannah was born and raised in the heart of Charleston, South Carolina. While growing up near the ocean has given her a step forward in the yachting industry, she also enjoys exploring the world of everything arts, music, and travel. She loves being a part of a community that has a ton of that to offer, and it shows. After her time spent with the university of South Carolina she made her move into the yachting world in 2018. She grew up boating, sailing and being at the beach every summer. Volleyball has always been a huge part of her life and she was given the opportunity to advance her athletic and academic career at Stonehill College in Massachusetts. After graduating college with a degree in criminology, she worked at a vineyard on the east end of Long Island serving and learning about wine. She moved to Florida to enter the yachting industry and after only a handful of months she learned both roles of deck maintenance and interior knowledge. She moved to Cape Town with her twin sister to pursue their passion for garment construction and finished with a BA Degree in Fashion design back in 2014. After completing her BA Degree, she had a quest for travel and adventure. The motivation to live and work on the water came naturally and in 2015 Alana decided to pursue her career within the yachting industry. Most expenses are deducted from an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA), a fund that is added on top of the charter price. The expenses, such as provisioning, fuel, marina fees, are deducted from the APA. The APA is based on the price of the yacht and ranges from 15% (crewed sailing yachts) to 30% (motor yachts with higher fuel consumption). You can actively control these expenses in your preference sheet (local vs. imported beverages) and by choice of itinerary (distances traveled). GALE WINDS Delta Marine | From US$ 80,000 /wk

Motor yacht GALE WINDS (ex CRESCENDO, LANIDA, INVADER, SOC, INTENT) from Delta Marine measures 37.19m (122') and was built in 1997 with her last extensive refit taking place in 2020. The naval architecture comes from the shipyard and uses carbon composite for her displacement hull and superstructure for a shallow draft. The accommodation sleeps a total of eight charter guests over five en-suite cabins, with a crew of five to ensure that everyone on board is well taken care of.

From the lower deck swim platform guests have access to the main deck aft, where there is a corner sofa to port and starboard, plus a coffee table and two armchairs on both sides. Side walkways lead around to the foredeck, where there is a loveseat for guests to unwind in privacy.

The upper deck is designed for outdoor living with plenty of plush seating curving around the sides and three corner tables for casual meals and drinks alfresco. The upper deck aft is used for storing the tender, which is launched and retrieved safely using a Davit crane.

On the sundeck there is even more seating along the stern for the group to relax outdoors in the elements, and a Jacuzzi provides a place to unwind together at the end of a busy day.

The lower deck hosts the crew accommodation and mess forward followed by the guest accommodation amidships, the engine room behind and storage for the water toys in the stern.

On the main deck the Master suite is placed forward followed by the galley, main foyer and day head amidships, and the formal dining area and main salon combined together in the stern. The formal dining area seats all eight guests in comfort, with a beautiful bar behind featuring a semi-precious stone counter top that lights up. The main salon provides two plush sofas around a coffee table to port, with two armchairs and a side table to starboard with a widescreen TV for entertainment throughout the cruise.

GALE WINDS Specifications

On the upper deck, the forward pilothouse provides a corner sofa and raised table in the port aft corner, where guests can enjoy a casual meal, play board games or unwind with reading material in a bright room. The skylounge behind provides another curving corner sofa and coffee table forward to port with two armchairs and a side table behind. Opposite, a drinks/games table for four is placed next to the starboard windows, and a widescreen TV for entertainment.

Twin MTU M91 Detroit diesel engines give a top speed of 19 knots and a cruising speed of 17 knots.

The accommodation sleeps a maximum of 8 guests over 5 en-suite cabins: 1 Master suite, 1 VIP stateroom, 1 double cabin and 2 twin cabins. ~The Master suite is placed on the main deck forward and comes with a king-sized bed, a widescreen TV, a desk/vanity, an armchair, ample storage and an en-suite bathroom with a sink, toilet and shower. ~The VIP stateroom on the lower deck makes use of the full beam amidships to provide a spacious environment. Crew Information

Captain: Karen Holton

Captain Karen Holtan – Karen is originally from Oregon and while growing up on a small farm watched Jacque Cousteau specials any chance she got. After becoming a SCUBA instructor, she started working full time on the water and worked her way up from deckhand/instructor to Captain. After 4 years on SCUBA vessels Karen then transferred to yachts and has had a chance to work from Canada to the Caribbean to Croatia. When not onboard helping guests, Karen loves to travel, take photos and get in the water anytime she can. First Mate/Engineer Avery Russell– was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, but found himself pulled to south Florida in pursuit of the salt life where the ocean, water sports and boating became his new way of life. Avery found that yachting combined his love for the ocean with his interest in traveling the world. Chief Stewardess Alana De Jager – Alana is originally from South Africa, where she grew up in the small surf town of Jeffreys Bay. She moved to Cape Town with her twin sister to pursue their passion for garment construction and finished with a BA Degree in Fashion design back in 2014. After completing her BA Degree, she had a quest for travel and adventure. The motivation to live and work on the water came naturally and in 2015 Alana decided to pursue her career within the yachting industry. Having worked on boats ranging between 30m to 60m and completing three crossings in the last 7 years, Alana is committed to give her guests the most enjoyable experience and making sure all their needs are attended to. Deckhand/Stewardess Emily Fozard – Emily hails from the coast of Southern California where her childhood love for the ocean has manifested into a career. After graduating she took a gap year to travel the world and surf. During her last stop in Indonesia, she discovered yachting and started her career in the Mediterranean. Most expenses are deducted from an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA), a fund that is added on top of the charter price. The expenses, such as provisioning, fuel, marina fees, are deducted from the APA. The APA is based on the price of the yacht and ranges from 15% (crewed sailing yachts) to 30% (motor yachts with higher fuel consumption). You can actively control these expenses in your preference sheet (local vs. imported beverages) and by choice of itinerary (distances traveled). Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.

Beautiful boat

Very impressed with the quality of this boat. The spec is top of the line and we'll maintained. The toilets are fresh & clean. The route on the river through Moscow takes in many of the iconic sites of Moscow and is a great introduction. The food was nice. Wide selection. Service was pleasant. Get the iPod with audio for some interesting commentary. I recommend the 2 1/2 hour trip.

We had it today. Nice views and a fun way to see the city. We also had some pasta and drinks, which were ok. Service was very nice. Shame we didn't know that the tour from Gorky Park is just half way - lasts about 1.5 hour. If we knew we would start at Ukraina hotel.

The standard return route from Gorky Park Pier to Hotel Ukraina Pier lasts two and a half hours with the pivot closer to the business center "Moscow-city" to the Kotelnicheskaya embankment without any stops. On weekends the departure time is at four p.m. and eight p.m. The boarding starts thirty minutes before the departure.

When I got on Radisson's cruise boats, I thought that it's a normal, boring river cruise, but 10 minutes later I found out I was totally wrong. What a beautiful view of the historical buildings of Moscow!!!! The statue that hung in the middle of Moskva River is amasing. Service is acceptable and waiters/waitresses are freindly and the food is in good quality.

Went with business group on dinner cruise, with guide. Really enjoyed the views after dark - seeing Red Square/The Kremlin from this vantage was great. And being on the top deck to view with no obstructions was worth the cold wind ! Kind of hard to eat and see the views at the same time, but the food was nothing special so we focused on the views. Service fine but not notable. Guide might as well have been a pre-recorded piece as there was no attempt to engage us - and it was hard to tell what building or view she was referring to as she just sort of looked in the direction of the item and spoke with monotone voice. Go for the views, not the food or service.

Great boat ride - see all the sights. The food is way better than you expect on a riverboat. This is a great 3 hour ride through Moscow with too many sights and views to name individually - take your camera!

It would be great to arrive before departure time inorder to enjoy your dinner. And spend the rest of the trip enjoying the scenic views. Our waiter was a gentleman. He spoke broken English. But he made great effort to explain some of the important buildings as we passed by. He made sure that our little girl was treated like a princess. If we travel back to Moscow we will have a day trip and an evening trip. We selected the Royal class.
