The windy Russian autumn weather might be a little bit tricky for sailing, but it doesn’t stop brave yachtsmen from all over the world from flocking to Russian capital in the beginning of September when the Moscow Yacht Show commences. The main Russian Yacht exhibition gathers professional and amateur yacht lovers together under the wing of The Royal Yacht Club.

This year it took place for a fourth time already. The exhibition is considered the principal event on the sporting and social calendar. The Moscow Yacht Show 2010 united in one area three of the largest Russian yachts distributors: Ultramarine, Nordmarine and Premium Yachts.

A wide range of yachts were on display for a week. An exhibition showcased yachts both from Russian manufacturers and world famous brands: Azimut, Princess, Ferretti, Pershing, Riviera, Doral, Linssen, etc.

It was a real feast for seafarers as visitors of the show had a unique chance not only to take a look at the newest superyachts before they hit the market, but also to evaluate their driving advantages during the test drive. The show provided an excellent opportunity for yacht enthusiasts to choose and buy a new boat for the next season.

The event started with the grandiose gala evening. It included grand dinner, the concert and professional awards ceremony for achievements in Russian yachting industry. The guests also enjoyed the annual regatta.

Special guest Paolo Vitelli, Azimut Benetti Group president, opened the evening.

Next year organizers assured guests they would bring more yachts, the scale of which will even make oligarch Roman Abramovich envious. Sounds very promising indeed.

The Ferretti Group, one of the world top companies specializing in the design, building and sale of motor yachts, with an amazing portfolio of eight of the most exclusive and prominent brands, is thrilled to announce its participation in the Moscow Boat Show 2013. From 12 to 17 March, two of the Group fleet’s most successful yachts will be presented as absolute premieres for the Russian market: motor yacht Ferretti 530, representing Ferretti Yachts , and the 27-foot Iseo superyacht tender by Riva .

This year’s Moscow Boat Show will also offer the Ferretti Group the opportunity to announce all yachting enthusiasts in Russia and Northern Eurasia a new important achievement in its international growth: the renewal of its exclusive dealership agreement for the Russian Federation with its partner Premium Yachts , one of the leading dealers operating in the boating sector in Russia , which will represent the Ferretti Yachts , Pershing , Itama , Bertram , Riva e Mochi Craft and Ferretti Custom Line brands.

The agreement – which was officially announced today during a press conference attended, among others, by Ferruccio Rossi (Ferretti Group’s CEO), Alexey Kurochkin (Premium Yachts’s President), and Stefano Campanelli (Sales Manager for the EMEA area for Ferretti Yachts, Pershing, Itama, Bertram, Riva, Mochi Craft and Ferretti Custom Line) – is part of Ferretti Group’s strategy for a further expansion on the European markets offering the best short/medium-term growth perspectives, also thanks to the financial soundness regained following the strategic partnership forged with the Weichai Group.

More specifically, the Russian boating market holds a great potential for the Ferretti Group’s development because of the rapid growth of average wealth among the population and an increasing interest for Made in Italy luxury goods, like Ferretti Group yachts.

Through the renewal of the agreement with Premium Yachts, the Group will further strengthen its highly selected distribution network – which currently includes approximately 60 dealers ensuring the best possible customer care in more than 80 countries worldwide – as well as its presence in the traditional EMEA ( Europe , Middle East , Africa ) area, one of the three macro-regions (besides the America and the Asia-Pacific) into which the Group’s sales structure is divided.

Moreover, in a medium/long-term perspective, the Ferretti Group is expecting an increasing interest on the Russian market not only for flying bridge yachts above 70’ in length, but also towards smaller crafts, both flybridge and open/coupé ones, which are particularly suitable for river cruising or pleasure boating in Russia’s large lakes. Consequently, the renewal of the dealership agreement with Premium Yachts also allows to look ahead at the future aiming to conquer new market segments where less competitors are currently present in terms of both products and geographic location.

The press conference, which was held today at the Lotte Hotel in Moscow, had also the objective of introducing attending journalists and yachting enthusiasts to the main new products launched by the Ferretti Group over the last few months, namely: motor yacht Ferretti 870 , Ferretti 690 yacht , and the project of the new flagship Ferretti 960 superyacht for the Ferretti Yachts brand; luxury yacht Pershing 82 ’ and superyacht Pershing 108’ New Edition for Pershing; Riva 63’ Virtus and the project of the new Riva flagship, 122’ Mythos yacht , as well as the entire range of the Itama, Bertram and Mochi Craft brands.

The yachts launched over the last few months by CRN – the Group’s brand specialising in the construction of steel and aluminium yachts between 40 and 90 metres – were also presented during the conference: the two superyachts: CRN superyacht Jade (60 metres long) and CRN mega yacht Chopi Chopi (80 metres long), the latter being one of the largest pleasure vessels ever built in Italy and the largest one ever built by the Ancona-based shipyard.

“The renewal of our dealership agreement with an important partner like Premium Yachts – which has worked on the Russian market for almost 10 years and can boast an outstanding product knowledge and an excellent local market penetration – and the presentation of the Group’s latest models are an integral part of our development strategy on the EMEA markets offering the best growth perspectives in the short-medium term,” stated Ferruccio Rossi, Ferretti Group’s CEO. “The Moscow Boat Show 2013, which has now reached its sixth edition, will extend over approximately 45,000 square metres this year and will be attended by more than 350 international boating companies. This Show represents an interesting business opportunity for us and an unmissable event in terms of visibility, since we are identifying a considerable growth potential in this area thanks to the timeless attractiveness of our products – true ambassadors of Made in Italy production all over the world”.

Co-Education Essay| Outlines and Quotations

Co-education essay with outlines and quotations is provided here. The quotations are added in the end of the article to maintain the flow of the article.

Introduction:

Co-Education means educating boys and girls or both genders together in one education system, under one building and in same institution.  In the recent times some of our colleges, schools and universities have adopted this concept.  A lot of people favor this system of education but also there exist some minds who do not accept this system.  Co-education is common concept in European and other developed countries but this concept is not as much popular in Pakistan.  In Pakistan a small number of colleges have adopted the co-education.  People in Pakistan believe that co-education leads girls and boys to wrong concepts of leading life.  However, there are some other people who believe that co-education can bring a healthy competition in girls and boys.  This can be beneficial to both genders mutually so we should adopt it.

Co-education and social intelligence:

It would not be wrong to say that this is the basic need of time to stand both genders together.  In the present era no development is possible without even one of these genders.  Both boys and girls are equally important for development in any sector of the country.  We should not deny that boys and girls have to live together in the society so we should prepare them in advance to survive with each other.  Co-education is very important for understanding social progress. Social progress can be defined as the capacity of a society to meet the human needs of its citizens and allowing them to enhance the quality of living.  No society can progress without competition.  If we will not allow boys and girls to compete with each other we will not be able to develop social intelligence in them.

Co-education, a controversial issue of our country:

There is no doubt that co-education has been a controversial issue of our country since after the partition.  There are some people who encourage this system of education and want to introduce in our country.  There can be many arguments to favor the co-education.  The major reason to support co-education in Pakistan is in a backward and financially ill country it is impossible to maintain separate education for both genders. Co-education will be proved good for the progress of the country, enhance the standard of education and develop as sense of competence in students.

But there also exist some arguments in defaming co-education which include: in country like Pakistan sex consciousness develops in early ages.  So it would not be wrong to say that co-education may lead to the lack of concentration in studies.  Because opposite genders attract each other so they lose interest and concentration in education.  Also there exists sexual harassment in co-education based institutions.  In co-education there are more chances of distractions, enethical activities and more interest in personal feelings.

Advantages of co-education:

A good education system is considered to be progressive if it give equal value and respects to both genders.  As co-education plays a vital role in social intelligence.  Co-education system can also be named as mixed-sex education.  In co-education boys and girls learn to develop a sensation of mutual respect.  In under developed countries like Pakistan sex discrimination has reached its peak.  Co-education can be helpful in overcoming the fear of opposite gender.  Co-education will also result in healthy competition and develops the sense of self-esteem among genders.

Almost all the countries of the world have accepted the concept of modernism.  Modernism can be defined as transfer of dogma to facts.  In this modern era we should understand that development of girls is as much important as boys.  So we should introduce co-education in order to encourage their survival in the future.  Co-education develops many mentionable characteristics in human personality which include character enhancement, denouncing discrimination on the basis of gender, developing a sense of competition in boys and girls, maintaining resources and promoting a controlled environment.

Co-education as a western culture:

It will not be wrong to say that some people support co-education because they want to adopt western culture.  There is a need to understand the difference between modernism and evil.  There is no doubt that west has adopted co-education and we can copy them too.  Co-education is not a form of evil.  It is just a getting education by the cooperation of your opposite gender.  Anything can be demonstrated wrong if it is used for the evil accomplishments.  And even a wrong thing can be right if it is done for the sake of someone’s benefit.

Here, I am not supporting or defaming the co-education.  My opinion is that co-education under a controlled environment and good administration of college, universities and schools will be proved beneficial in the development of country.

Conclusion:

To conclude, co-education is an excellent system of promoting education equally among mixed genders.  No country can lead to progress unless both girls and boys work together for it development.  So, we should promote co-education under a controlled system.  It is important to develop all-round characteristics of kid’s personality as it takes away the fear of interacting with the opposite gender.  Moreover, co-education prepares them for a world where they can work in all kinds of environment without being hesitated.

Essay on Co Education for Class 12th: Outlines, Quotations, and Headings

Essay on Co Education for Class 12th

Table of Contents

Essay on Co Education for Class 12th: Hey there! In this post, I have included an essay on co-education along with some relevant quotations for students who are currently studying in FA/FSC 2nd Year. Although this essay is not of utmost importance, I have included it as a part of the Class 12 course, as students of FSC Part 2 often use quotations in their English essays to make them more impressive.

The essay discusses the merits and demerits of co-education, and I have carefully chosen appropriate quotations that add value to the essay. Students who are required to write an essay on co-education can use the same material under different titles, such as “Co-education Essay with Quotations,” “Essay on Co-education Merits and Demerits,” or “Essay on Co-education Advantages and Disadvantages.” I hope you find this essay helpful in your studies!

Introduction

Co-education is a system of education where both boys and girls are taught together in the same school or classroom. It is a controversial topic that has been debated for many years. Some people believe that co-education is beneficial, while others think it has negative effects. In this essay, we will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of co-education with relevant quotes from various authors.

  • Promotes Gender Equality Co-education promotes gender equality by providing an equal opportunity for both genders to receive education. According to Emma Watson, the actress and activist, “We are not supposed to be equal in the sense of sameness, but in the sense of equal value and equal rights.” Co-education helps to break down gender barriers and allows both boys and girls to learn from and with each other.
  • Encourages Mutual Respect and Understanding Co-education promotes mutual respect and understanding between boys and girls. When both genders interact with each other, they learn to appreciate and respect each other’s strengths and weaknesses. According to Kofi Annan, the former Secretary-General of the United Nations, “Education is a human right with immense power to transform. Disadvantages of Co-education

  • Distractions and Misbehavior One of the biggest disadvantages of co-education is the potential for distractions and misbehavior. Boys and girls can become a distraction to each other, especially during the teenage years. According to Henry David Thoreau, the American author, and philosopher, “Our life is frittered away by detail. Simplify, simplify, simplify!” Co-education can sometimes complicate matters by introducing unnecessary distractions and complications.
  • Stereotyping and Gender Bias Another disadvantage of co-education is the potential for stereotyping and gender bias. Boys and girls may be stereotyped based on their gender, which can lead to gender bias. According to Sandra Day O’Connor, the former United States Supreme Court Justice, “We don’t accomplish anything in this world alone… and whatever happens is the result of the whole tapestry of one’s life and all the weavings of individual threads from one to another that creates something.” Co-education may not be able to prevent gender bias and stereotyping.
  • Risk of Harassment Co-education also has the potential for harassment. Boys and girls may be subjected to harassment from each other, which can lead to a hostile learning environment. According to Tarana Burke, the founder of the #MeToo movement, “violence does not discriminate.” Co-education can increase the risk of violence and harassment.
  • “We need to help students and parents cherish and preserve the ethnic and cultural diversity that nourishes and strengthens this community – and this nation.” – Cesar Chavez
  • “The education and empowerment of women throughout the world cannot fail to result in a more caring, tolerant, just and peaceful life for all.” – Aung San Suu Kyi
  • “The education of women is the best way to save the environment.” – E.O. Wilson
  • “We cannot all succeed when half of us are held back.” – Malala Yousafzai
  • “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.” – Martin Luther King Jr.
  • “The whole purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows.” – Sydney J. Harris
  • “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” – Nelson Mandela
  • “The goal of education is the advancement of knowledge and the dissemination of truth.” – John F. Kennedy
  • “An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.” – Benjamin Franklin
  • “The most important thing in education is to teach young people to think for themselves.” – Neil deGrasse Tyson

In conclusion, co-education has both advantages and disadvantages. It promotes gender equality, and mutual respect, and provides a realistic learning environment. However, it also has the potential for distractions, stereotyping, gender bias, and harassment. It is important for schools to weigh the pros and cons of co-education and take appropriate measures to minimize the disadvantages. As Malala Yousafzai, the Nobel Prize-winning activist, said, “Let us remember: One book, one pen

The Historical Perspective

The concept of co-education is not new. It traces back to the ancient Greeks, who believed in providing the same education to both genders. Moreover, in societies with conservative cultural norms, co-education can sometimes lead to resistance and controversy.

Co-Education and the Future

In the future, the role of co-education is expected to become more significant. As societies progress towards gender equality, co-education will play a crucial role in shaping these changes. It will continue to foster mutual understanding and respect between genders, leading to more harmonious societies.

Co-education is a system of education in which boys and girls study together in a common school or college. Co-education was not prevalent in ancient times. It is a groundbreaking thought. The parents supported the case for adequate education for the children irrespective of their sex. The countrymen realized that the boys and girls have to move together and shoulder to shoulder in every walk of life in the free world. They started educating their children in co-educational institutions.

Co-education has various advantages. It is useful in producing a sensation of solidarity and a feeling of equivalent obligation among boys and girls. When young boys and girls come closer to each other, they take more care in understanding each other. That helps in creating a friendly atmosphere between the two. The boys and the girls partake in their joint exercises consistently in schools and universities.

Co-education is exceptionally practical. The number of schools required is less. The strength of the teaching staff is diminished. The government spends less money on infrastructure and laboratories. The balance of money so saved is spent on better maintenance of schools and colleges, which facilitates the students for better study.

Co-education is helpful in adapting society to modern times. It allows young boys and girls to interact freely and easily. They participate together in various events and demonstrate cooperation, inspiring a healthy work ethic among others.

In co-educational institutions, boys and girls regularly interact and get to know each other’s qualities. Some even choose their soul mates, leading to successful relationships. Co-education has become a platform for determining soul mates.

This resolves the concerns of many parents regarding their children’s marriages. Such relationships have better understanding and longevity. Additionally, co-education can reduce injustices and crimes against women caused by dowry demands in marriages.

Co-education helps in developing good citizens who have a well-rounded personalities due to their exposure to various experiences during their student life in coeducational institutions. This makes them stand out in their future endeavors. Such individuals possess innate potential and maturity, which contributes to their success in work.

Our society is predominantly male-dominated, and there is a prevalent feeling of inferiority among women. It is essential to educate people that both men and women have equal rights and roles to play in society. Women possess the same abilities as men, and removing the inferiority complex will boost their confidence and contribute to the country’s progress.

Co-education provides a solution to this problem as it brings boys and girls together to study and live, eradicating gender disparity and promoting equality. This improvement leads to joint efforts by both genders, making it easier to achieve their goals in life.

Co-educational institutions, convents, and government-funded schools provide education to both boys and girls together. They participate in various extracurricular activities such as sports, social events, and cultural programs, which aid in their overall development. This fosters a competitive environment among students, leading to better performance in academics and other fields.

To establish a united society, we must promote co-education by setting up more such institutions across the country. This will create a workforce of young men and women who can contribute to the country’s progress in every sector.

Women hold equal value in a democratic country and can work alongside men. Their significance cannot be ignored, and they should be given equal opportunities and responsibilities to lead India towards becoming a global superpower. Co-education is the best way to develop both genders equally. Therefore, it is essential to educate everyone about the benefits of co-education for individual growth and the country’s advancement.

Co-Education

Essay Outlines:

  • Co-education means educating the boys and girls in the same institutions.
  • There exist two schools of thought who differ sharply in their views about co-education.
  • We cannot open schools and colleges separately for both the boys and girls.
  • The boys and girls begin to have an understanding of each other at the college level.
  • Co-education has its disadvantages, also.
  • In a hot country like Pakistan, co-education makes the boys and girls alive to sex matters.
  • Co-education must be discarded at the university level, however, it should be continued at the primary level.

Co-education means educating the boys and girls in the same institution. It is a modern concept. It was first introduced in Switzerland but later on, it became very popular in every country. It was adopted by other countries of the West like Germany, France, Canada, Russia, and America. In Eastern countries, this concept of co-education is making headway slowly. In our country, it is popular only in vocational institutions.

There exist two schools of thought who differ sharply in their views about co-education . One group of people favors co-education . It includes the people who are educated in Western traditions. They put forward the following points:

First, they say that we should adopt co-education in our schools and colleges because our country is poor and underdeveloped. We cannot open separate schools and colleges separately both for boys and girls. This difficulty becomes very great in the case of vocational and technical institutions. It is very difficult for the Government to open separate vocational colleges both for the girls and boys and equip them with the necessary scientific apparatus and library.

Second, there is a great dearth of skilled teachers on technical subjects in our country. That is why it is desirable to educate the boys and girls in the same institutions.

Third, there is another advantage of co-education . The boys and girls have to play an important part in their practical life in the national progress of their country. They begin to have an understanding of each other at the college level. Co-education also produces in both the sexes a healthy competition in their studies. The boys also become more civilized and polished in the presence of girls.

Co-education has its disadvantages. First, in a hot country, like Pakistan, co-education makes the boys and girls alive to sex matters. The boys begin to run after the girls. The girls also feel proud of their boyfriends . Thus, this tendency makes them neglect their studies. Moreover, the girls lose their feminine qualities . They lose the feminine charm .

Second, the period of youth is characterized by irresponsibility and immaturity. They fear that free mixing of both sexes will lead to terrible consequences. This free contact will result in the laxity of morals. The youth of both sexes will be corrupted by free mixing. Colleges will be converted into romantic arbors. Cupid will have free rein. There would be Romeos and Juliets in the colleges. Ugly scenes would be a common occurrence. Chastity is the greatest ornament of women . If they once lose it, they lose their place in society permanently . That is why our religion forbids the free mixing of men and women at any stage in life. Therefore, it is false rationality to teach them in the same institutions.

The boys and girls in our country have to play different roles in their life. The girl has to run her home. Man has to earn his living. The courses taught to the girls should be different from those taught to the boys. Co-education does not encourage this tendency.

We should not introduce it at the university level, because it has many harms. However, we can continue it at the primary stage.

So start reading Essay on Co-education…

What is Co-education?

Co-education means education for both boys and girls together. The joint education of both sexes at the same institution and in the same classes is called co-education.

This is an economic system because both boys and girls study in the same school and college with the same teachers. Further, boys and girls have to live together in a society in which there later life, and if they studied together from the very beginning, then they can understand each other.

The first co-educational college was founded on December 3, 1833, with 44 students, including 29 men and 15 women in Oberlin Collegiate Institute in Oberlin, Ohio.

Though nowadays it is widespread, co-education was once a very controversial idea in the past. The notion that women and men can learn together and help educate one another has evolved over a long period.

The progress of women in education is a product of great determination from the Women’s Rights Movement , educational institutions, and government legislation.

Helps in understanding social intelligence.

It is believed that social intelligence helps humans in effectively negotiating and navigating complicated relationships and environments . This is regarded as an individual’s competence to understand his or her background and react in a manner accepted as socially successful conduct.

Social intelligence is a vital tool that a child needs to grow up as a good human being within the family and in society. By this, a child develops healthy relationships with family, friends, and members of society. This also makes a child better at managing emotions, handling conflicts, being empathetic, and improving values.

Helps in removing gender discrimination

Co-education helps to remove gender discrimination. Here both boys and girls give respect to each other and help in all ways.

1. provides school diversity.

School diversity helps the students in enrolling, especially students in co-education schools. If young boys and girls are exposed to diversity at an early age, they will find it easier to adapt to different environments when they grow up. This diversity set-up is useful in teaching other forms of diversity like cultural and social.

2. Teacher showing equality

When both boys and girls study in the same class, getting an education from the same teacher, interacting with each other, and participating in all competitions helps them to gain confidence and respect for each other.

3. Promotes Socialization

The familiarity in co-education teaches students about co-existence and, at the same time, helps them to prepare how to deal with unique kinds of people when they pass out of school.

4. Prepares Real World for the students

In Co-educational schools, students are exposed to a healthy environment in the sense that society is composed of both men and women.

5. Communication skills are improved

When a student studies in a co-educational school or co-educational institution, he or she will express his thoughts and also get to know others’ thoughts.

He will also develop communication skills, as there will be interactions between various languages of students. There will also be an exchange of opinions on different subjects. So by this, their communication skill will improve.

6. Develops mutual respect and self-esteem

Co-education helps both boys and girls to respect each other and help in every need. It also helps to lay the early foundation for maintaining dignity and self-esteem.

7. Overcome the fear of the opposite gender-

There are many differences between boys and girls who hesitate them to involve in any conversation. This kind of hesitation, shyness, or fear can overcome when they study in a co-education system where they will compel to talk and create a friendly environment with no doubt.

8. Healthy competition

Co-education helps to nurture challenges among the opposite sex healthily, helping them to maintain their dignity. It also educates them to face their failures and learn from them rather than turn into the evil act.

Disadvantages of co-education

1. distractions could be more.

Every teenager undergoes some phase in their life. For them, it is common to come across some psychological changes when they are in the company of the opposite gender and feel attracted to them. This always disturbs their study period. Hence, parents often think about co-educational schools better for their children or not.

2. Unethical activities

Crimes are more, but when both the genders are put in the same institution, crime is common there. There might be a lot of characteristics, emotional, etc. changes among boys and girls.

When they mismatch, some students commit various dangerous activities like harassments, physical toughness, and emotional stress to people around them.

3. Involvement is more in personal feelings

Emotions are very dangerous. When teens are at their emotional stage, they come across a lot of problems that can force a child to deviate from their goals.

4. Unhealthy environment

It is common that on any topic arguments occur. But if this happens, it can cause distraction from study and an unhealthy environment.

5. Boys Differ from Girls

There are some subjects where boys are better than girls and some subjects girls are better than boys. This can cause a teacher problem to teach the students according to them.

6. Early Relationships

Students spend most of their time in schools and colleges. This means boys and girls have more time to be together and interact with one another. This can lead to engaging in relationships and, eventually, sexual activities .

If these students are still immature and careless, these actions can cause early pregnancy and prior marriages.

7. Attention Given to Students

In co-education schools, boys are considered being independent and able to do anything for themselves. Whereas, most of the girls are under subjection and so considered as fragile.

This thinking has been prevalent for a long time and is not beneficial every time. Taking this into account, girls are more attended to assistance as compared to boys. Unlike the girls, boys are keen at expecting to figure things on their own.

We accept that co-education is an excellent system. We can find in every sphere of life the way we find defects in co-education. All this happens because of an unpleasant coincidence. The advantages of co-education are many. Co-education is an essential requirement for the development of our species and nation.

English Summary

Essay on Co education in English

Co education, as the word denotes, means education of boys and girls together in schools and colleges. When both the sexes receive education jointly, there is no need for separate institutions. This is obviously an advantage from the economic point of view since separate institutions and separate staff for those institutions will entail greater expenditure.

Co-education has many more important advantages. It enables the girls and boys to come into contact with and learn to understand one another. They receive their lessons jointly, they play on the fields together, they participate in the extracurricular activities together, they go out on educational tours together, in short, they get real opportunities to know one another.

When free contact between the sexes is allowed and encouraged, there can be no sex-suppression on either side. It is a psychological fact that the segregation of the sexes leads to many complexes. The age of puberty is crucial for both boys and girls, and if they get no chance to meet one another they are tormented by unhealthy, morbid thoughts.

Segregation, therefore, does great harm to youth-both male and female. Among girls, it often leads to hysteria and among lads it sometimes leads to vicious habits. Co-education prevents these dangers. The presence of girls in educational institutions has a refining effect on boys.

Generally, boys, if left to themselves will show a tendency to indulge in vulgar talk and indecent jokes Vulgarity, indeed, thrives among boys. If, however, a group of students standing and chatting together includes a few girls, the boys will take care not to use any vulgar expressions.

Boys will thus steadily develop a habit of talking decently and behaving in a gentlemanly manner. The mutual understanding engendered co-education also leads to recognition by men of the desirability of giving to women a high status in social life. Hitherto men have been only too ready to oppose any rights or privileges being conceded to women.

But this opposition is mainly based upon an ignorance of the latent potentialities of women. Co-education dispels this by affording men a first-hand knowledge of the capacities and abilities of women.

Another salutary effect of co-education is that it produces a healthy spirit of competition between boys and girls. Each sex makes efforts to excel the other. Both are therefore urged to a more fruitful intellectual exertion than is the case in separate institutions for boys and girls.

But co-education is not an unmixed blessing, and its drawbacks should be clearly recognised and guarded against the system has been bitterly criticized by many educationists. In the first place, men find it difficult to concentrate upon studies in the presence of women.

The temptation to look at a pretty face is always irresistible for a man, whatever his age. In youth, this temptation is all the stronger. It is too much therefore, to expect boys to attend wholeheartedly to their lessons when a number of attractive girls are sitting by their side in the classroom.

Again, there is a real danger that the free inter-mixing of the sexes at the age of puberty may lead to sexual misconduct Boys will aim at entangling girls, and girls may become the willing victims of unscrupulous boys. This sort of thing, besides being undesirable and improper in itself, has an adverse effect upon the discipline of an institution.

The needs of women are different from those of men. The same curriculum does not suit both the sexes. Boys and girls should not, therefore, be given exactly the same sort of education. If the list of subjects suitable for study by the two sexes are compared, the number of subjects common to the two lists may appear few.

But it would be a waste of effort to admit boys and girls to the same college and then to teach them separately on account of the differences based on the belief that there are wide differences between the mental constitution of the two sexes.

Girls tend to be more interested in their immediate surroundings, in what is pretty and ornamental, and boys in what is more remote from them, in what is useful, in what is general and what is abstract.

Co-education in India has made considerable progress. It has already been introduced in most colleges. The number of girls in co-educational institutions nowadays is as large as that of boys.

How to Structure an Essay | Tips & Templates

Published on September 18, 2020 by Jack Caulfield . Revised on July 23, 2023.

The basic structure of an essay always consists of an introduction , a body , and a conclusion . But for many students, the most difficult part of structuring an essay is deciding how to organize information within the body.

The basics of essay structure, chronological structure, compare-and-contrast structure, problems-methods-solutions structure, signposting to clarify your structure, other interesting articles, frequently asked questions about essay structure.

There are two main things to keep in mind when working on your essay structure: making sure to include the right information in each part, and deciding how you’ll organize the information within the body.

Parts of an essay

The three parts that make up all essays are described in the table below.

Order of information

You’ll also have to consider how to present information within the body. There are a few general principles that can guide you here.

The first is that your argument should move from the simplest claim to the most complex . The body of a good argumentative essay often begins with simple and widely accepted claims, and then moves towards more complex and contentious ones.

For example, you might begin by describing a generally accepted philosophical concept, and then apply it to a new topic. The grounding in the general concept will allow the reader to understand your unique application of it.

The second principle is that background information should appear towards the beginning of your essay . General background is presented in the introduction. If you have additional background to present, this information will usually come at the start of the body.

The third principle is that everything in your essay should be relevant to the thesis . Ask yourself whether each piece of information advances your argument or provides necessary background. And make sure that the text clearly expresses each piece of information’s relevance.

The sections below present several organizational templates for essays: the chronological approach, the compare-and-contrast approach, and the problems-methods-solutions approach.

The chronological approach (sometimes called the cause-and-effect approach) is probably the simplest way to structure an essay. It just means discussing events in the order in which they occurred, discussing how they are related (i.e. the cause and effect involved) as you go.

A chronological approach can be useful when your essay is about a series of events. Don’t rule out other approaches, though—even when the chronological approach is the obvious one, you might be able to bring out more with a different structure.

Essays with two or more main subjects are often structured around comparing and contrasting . For example, a literary analysis essay might compare two different texts, and an argumentative essay might compare the strengths of different arguments.

There are two main ways of structuring a compare-and-contrast essay: the alternating method, and the block method.

Alternating

In the alternating method, each paragraph compares your subjects in terms of a specific point of comparison. These points of comparison are therefore what defines each paragraph.

  • Classroom learning: Ease of identifying difficulties and privately discussing them
  • Distance learning: Difficulty of noticing and unobtrusively helping
  • Classroom learning: Difficulties accessing the classroom (disability, distance travelled from home)
  • Distance learning: Difficulties with online work (lack of tech literacy, unreliable connection, distractions)
  • Classroom learning: Tends to encourage personal engagement among students and with teacher, more relaxed social environment
  • Distance learning: Greater ability to reach out to teacher privately
  • Sum up, emphasize that distance learning introduces more difficulties than it solves
  • Stress the importance of addressing issues with distance learning as it becomes increasingly common
  • Distance learning may prove to be the future, but it still has a long way to go

In the block method, each subject is covered all in one go, potentially across multiple paragraphs. For example, you might write two paragraphs about your first subject and then two about your second subject, making comparisons back to the first.

The tabs again show a general template, followed by another essay on distance learning, this time with the body structured in blocks.

  • Point 1 (compare)
  • Point 2 (compare)
  • Point 3 (compare)
  • Point 4 (compare)
  • Advantages: Flexibility, accessibility
  • Disadvantages: Discomfort, challenges for those with poor internet or tech literacy
  • Advantages: Potential for teacher to discuss issues with a student in a separate private call
  • Disadvantages: Difficulty of identifying struggling students and aiding them unobtrusively, lack of personal interaction among students
  • Advantages: More accessible to those with low tech literacy, equality of all sharing one learning environment
  • Disadvantages: Students must live close enough to attend, commutes may vary, classrooms not always accessible for disabled students
  • Advantages: Ease of picking up on signs a student is struggling, more personal interaction among students
  • Disadvantages: May be harder for students to approach teacher privately in person to raise issues

An essay that concerns a specific problem (practical or theoretical) may be structured according to the problems-methods-solutions approach.

This is just what it sounds like: You define the problem, characterize a method or theory that may solve it, and finally analyze the problem, using this method or theory to arrive at a solution. If the problem is theoretical, the solution might be the analysis you present in the essay itself; otherwise, you might just present a proposed solution.

The tabs below show a template for this structure and an example outline for an essay about the problem of fake news.

  • Introduce the problem
  • Provide background
  • Describe your approach to solving it
  • Define the problem precisely
  • Describe why it’s important
  • Indicate previous approaches to the problem
  • Present your new approach, and why it’s better
  • Apply the new method or theory to the problem
  • Indicate the solution you arrive at by doing so
  • Assess (potential or actual) effectiveness of solution
  • Describe the implications
  • Problem: The growth of “fake news” online
  • Prevalence of polarized/conspiracy-focused news sources online
  • Thesis statement: Rather than attempting to stamp out online fake news through social media moderation, an effective approach to combating it must work with educational institutions to improve media literacy
  • Definition: Deliberate disinformation designed to spread virally online
  • Popularization of the term, growth of the phenomenon
  • Previous approaches: Labeling and moderation on social media platforms
  • Critique: This approach feeds conspiracies; the real solution is to improve media literacy so users can better identify fake news
  • Greater emphasis should be placed on media literacy education in schools
  • This allows people to assess news sources independently, rather than just being told which ones to trust
  • This is a long-term solution but could be highly effective
  • It would require significant organization and investment, but would equip people to judge news sources more effectively
  • Rather than trying to contain the spread of fake news, we must teach the next generation not to fall for it

Signposting means guiding the reader through your essay with language that describes or hints at the structure of what follows.  It can help you clarify your structure for yourself as well as helping your reader follow your ideas.

The essay overview

In longer essays whose body is split into multiple named sections, the introduction often ends with an overview of the rest of the essay. This gives a brief description of the main idea or argument of each section.

The overview allows the reader to immediately understand what will be covered in the essay and in what order. Though it describes what  comes later in the text, it is generally written in the present tense . The following example is from a literary analysis essay on Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein .

Transitions

Transition words and phrases are used throughout all good essays to link together different ideas. They help guide the reader through your text, and an essay that uses them effectively will be much easier to follow.

Various different relationships can be expressed by transition words, as shown in this example.

Because Hitler failed to respond to the British ultimatum, France and the UK declared war on Germany. Although it was an outcome the Allies had hoped to avoid, they were prepared to back up their ultimatum in order to combat the existential threat posed by the Third Reich.

Transition sentences may be included to transition between different paragraphs or sections of an essay. A good transition sentence moves the reader on to the next topic while indicating how it relates to the previous one.

… Distance learning, then, seems to improve accessibility in some ways while representing a step backwards in others.

However , considering the issue of personal interaction among students presents a different picture.

The structure of an essay is divided into an introduction that presents your topic and thesis statement , a body containing your in-depth analysis and arguments, and a conclusion wrapping up your ideas.

The structure of the body is flexible, but you should always spend some time thinking about how you can organize your essay to best serve your ideas.

An essay isn’t just a loose collection of facts and ideas. Instead, it should be centered on an overarching argument (summarized in your thesis statement ) that every part of the essay relates to.

The way you structure your essay is crucial to presenting your argument coherently. A well-structured essay helps your reader follow the logic of your ideas and understand your overall point.

Comparisons in essays are generally structured in one of two ways:

  • The alternating method, where you compare your subjects side by side according to one specific aspect at a time.
  • The block method, where you cover each subject separately in its entirety.

It’s also possible to combine both methods, for example by writing a full paragraph on each of your topics and then a final paragraph contrasting the two according to a specific metric.

You should try to follow your outline as you write your essay . However, if your ideas change or it becomes clear that your structure could be better, it’s okay to depart from your essay outline . Just make sure you know why you’re doing so.

Essay on Co-education- for all level students

Essay on Co education

Co-education essay

Essay on Co-education – Introduction: Co-education means education of boys and girls in the same educational institution and at the same time. In the primary stage, co-education has been the rule in all countries. In the university also, it is nowadays the rule almost everywhere. It is also felt that university students who have attained age and developed intelligence and a proper sense of their duties and responsibilities should be treated as matured and responsible citizens.

Problems: The problem of co-education in the second stage was in the past a debatable subject. At this stage students are in their adolescence; free mixing between the sexes in this period of life, it is held, may disturb the normal development of their mind. This is more so, as at this stage the students are apt to be emotional and excitable.

Don’t Forget to Check: Essay in English

Economic reasons: In a small but populous country like Bangladesh, at least for economic reasons, co-education is advisable. There have been arrangements for separate benches and girls in the classes, and separate playgrounds outside for boys. There have been men and women teachers, who can make the task of enforcing discipline and general supervision easily.

The objection to co-education was largely due to the conservative social prejudices of the people, fostered by the purdah system. But the tempo of modern life is fast breaking these barriers down. Co-education is now a widely accepted practice, more a rule than an exception. So the number of co-educational institutions is now on the increase.

Economic factor has been helpful in ensuring this social development. Late marriages compel parents to educate their daughters, while the economic needs of the family income, in order to maintain a higher standard of living. Hence is the number of separate girls’ institutions is very few and co-education has become unavoidable.

Proposal for different types of educations : Opponents of co-education have based their arguments chiefly on the view that · girls should have a different type of education from that imparted to boys. They argue that the sphere of a girl’s activities will, in the long run, be the home, and therefore their education should seek to turn out good mothers and housewives. This argument is now considered to be reactionary.

Women have, in most progressive and democratic countries, been given equal rights and opportunities and they have given a good account of themselves in winning in lair competition with boys.

Our constitution, in this respect, is as progressive as any, and our women have filled and are filling highly responsible posts with dignity and success.every big city and millions of people get their news, messages, and amusements over their wireless or, radio sets.

Family diversion: Broadcasting affords a pleasant family diversion. Nothing can be more charmingly domestic than to sit around the radio with one’s parents, brothers, and sisters. They can easily listen to the musical programme, theatrical and other interesting topics and relays. One can take the pick of the items from the programme of almost any country in the world.

Broadcasting has made us citizens of the world in a very real sense. In this age, when one has hardly the time, one saves some amount of time listening to the news on the radio while having one’s early breakfast. The newspaper with its peculiar appeal, can never be superseded, but it can be kept over for a more care-free period of leisure,- on the way to the office if one has a car, or in the intervals of the day’s work. It is pleasant to be greeted every morning with that cheering.

Educational program: The wireless or, radio can be used for educational purpose, besides entertainment. There is so much to be learned these days – progress going on everywhere, in all departments of life, and all over the world. Indeed, it is difficult to remain thoroughly up-to-date in this fast developing world.

The wireless or, radio station helps us in some measures to keep pace with this world of progress. The radio’ selects, condenses and gives us bits of important information. It has programmes to suit all types of listeners of all age groups. Thus for the common man, the radio has been a real teacher, a compendium book of knowledge for the ear.. 9

The nation’s propaganda: The radio, however, largely is for propaganda by the government. To tell what people should or should not do, it controls in an increasing measure the daily life of individuals, the radio is now a handy medium for the government. Under such conditions, the radio acquires the importance of it now, beyond its very wide war-time use.

To think that the radio is meant only for the average and common man is a mistake. Even the intellectuals will find much in it to be interested. great thinkers, great scientists, great poets often speak to us through the radio.

An adjunct of broadcasting is the growth of television in which you can not only hear a man speaking but see the man speaking.

Importance: Broadcasting plays an important role in most respects. People can know everything through it. In America, in Ceylon, in Australia and in many other countries like Bangladesh, commercial advertisements are allowed to be put up in the air for money. So the radio has brightened the home; the sick bed it has cheered, the young mind it has instructed, and the trade it has set going.

To free the radio from the control of the ruling Coalition Govt. or party in power. Broadcasting either on radio or T.V. should be made free. The Ministry of Information should have no control over it. It will broadcast all the news, information and advertisements at its own suit will without remaining under the influence and control of any governing body related to politics. The information ministry should not instruct it to broadcast the ministry affairs only.

Conclusion: It is now expected that the Radio and TV would henceforward be more impartial in catering to the common people.

Co-education Essay with Quotations for Class 12

Co-education means the education of boys and girls together. In recent years, some of our colleges have adopted this system. Some people favour this system. They say that this system is very useful. Their main argument is that in a poor and backward country like Pakistan it is impossible to maintain separate institutions. So co-education would be adopted and the existing colleges and schools should also be opened to girls.

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” (Nelson Mandela)

The supporters of co-education also say that this system would provide an opportunity for young men and women to come closer and to understand each other.  This would be very useful to them in their future life. It would also be good for the progress of the country. Another argument is that co-education would raise the standard of education because it will promote competition among boys and girls.

“There is here, as in all countries, advantages and disadvantages.” (Nathaniel Smith)

But all these arguments are not based on facts. All of our institutions are overcrowded. The girl’s schools and colleges too are overcrowded. Hundreds of new educational institutions are needed. If some of these are reserved for girls, it would not cost more to the government.

The second argument too is false. If young men and women cannot understand each other at home, they would not be able to do so in colleges.

“Education is a social process. Education is growth. Education is, not a preparation for life; education is life itself.” (John Dewey)

The system of co-education will not raise educational standards. Temptation of flirting is stronger than the urge of reading textbooks. Co-education will create many problems and complications not only for the students but also for the teachers. Temptation does not distinguish between the students and the teachers.

“To educate a man in mind and not in morals is to educate a menace to society.” (Theodore Roosevelt)

The real reason why some people support co-education is that they like the western culture, they want to be more English than the English. Because the West has co-education, they must have it too. But we have to consider whether our religion, our culture and our circumstances allow us to adopt co-education. Certainly not. Our young men and women need education and not co-education. We must understand that co-education may demolish our education system as well as our culture. It may cause many social evils and complications not only for the students but for their parents too.

Co-education System in Pakistan

Co-education System in Pakistan English Essay

Co-education system in pakistan (400 words), outlines for coeducation system, co-education is very common in the world, it’s benefits, possibility or both, male and female teachers to teach, disadvantages of co-education, when co-education can be successful on the whole, co-education is useful.

“Co-education is welcome when it sets boy and girls to compete with each other intellectually and to learn jointly from the most learned or highly qualified teachers.”

Co-education is very common in the world today. In many countries boys and girls study together in schools, colleges and universities, Co-education has a number of benefits. First of all, it gives a chance to boys and girls to study and work together. It brings them closer. They learn to co-operate. As a result, they can easily work together in offices, hospitals, factories and other public places to serve their country and nation.[the_ad id=”17141″]

Co-education is of great benefit to the poorer countries. These countries cannot easily open separate colleges and universities for boys and girls in all subjects. For higher education, only a few universities or colleges. There boys and girls can study together. Highly specialized teachers can benefit them at one place. in co-education, there is a healthy competition between boys and girls. Boys try to do better than girls in studies. So girls work harder to be better than boys. As a result, both can make quick progress. Both male and female teachers can easily teach in co-education. They can discuss their subjects and jointly work for the progress of the students. Co-education has some disadvantages as well. Boys and girls studying together may become too much free with each other.

Girls cannot play games or take part in debates so freely in a co-educational institution. They cannot easily have a hostel on its campus. It may be difficult for a teacher to explain some subjects like psychology or zoology to boys and girls together. Girls may not like to ask , questions from teachers in the presence of boys. In co-education, girls and boys try to be more and more fashionable. They try to wear clothes of the latest fashion to impress one another. Thus, they begin attending to their dress more than to their studies.

Co-education can be successful when there is a proper atmosphere for studies. Students as well as teachers should be devoted to studies. There should be perfect discipline. Social conditions have a direct effect upon educational institutions. Where men and women freely work together in offices, factories and shops, boys and girls can study together at ease in schools, colleges and universities. On the whole (overall), co-education is useful. We may . have it in the higher classes alone until the social conditions improve (become better).

Co-education System in Pakistan (600 Words)

[the_ad id=”17142″]I am a student at a coeducational college. Co-education has been there in our schools and colleges for the last many years. There are many co-educational colleges in the city. It is no more a foreign system.

It is becoming increasingly popular day by day. In my class, there are 35 students. Out of it, 20 are boys and 15 girls. With the spread of education, more and more girls are joining schools and colleges. It is a healthy sign. It also has some disadvantages. Co-education has many advantages But advantages are far greater than disadvantages. It is wrong to say that studies in coeducational institutions that they get students to neglect busy in making friends with the students of the opposite sex that there is much indiscipline because of co-education. My own experience shows that there is much to studies in coeducational college and devotion more seriousness, There is a kind of healthy and desirable competition. Everyone tries to do his or her best. Students are more disciplined and orderly. There may be expectations. In the beginning, when co-education was introduced, there were some problems. But now it is quite normal. Every new system takes its own time to settle down.

Co-education gives an early chance to boys and girls to know each other. It is very beneficial. Half the world is that of women. Co-education helps in their better understanding and appreciation. Later, in life, there is better cooperation and understanding between men and women as husbands and wives. Boys and girls educated and trained together make better citizens, parents, and couples. Co-education provides them an early chance to know each other’s mental make-up and psychology. It also helps in removing such evils as dowry and prejudice against women.

[the_ad id=”17150″]Economically cool also co-education is best suited to our country. Pakistan is a developing country. It is a vast country with a large population. The rate of literacy among women is very low, it is not possible for a country like Pakistan to have separate schools and colleges for girls. It means a lot of extra cost and expenses, separate colleges also mean the need to double the number of trained teachers. Pakistan cannot afford it. At many places, the number of girl students is not large enough to merit a separate college. It makes matter more uneconomical. Thus, the co-education system avoids waste and saves the economy.

The co-education also helps in making the right choice of partners in marriage. Girls become smart, intelligent and practical and can choose their own husbands. Or they can help the parents to take the right decision. A girl educated in a separate She cannot be as and spineless college is bound to be shy practical, bold and firm in such matters as her sisters educated in co-educational institutions.

There is no harm in educating girls and boys together. What is needed is a little more imagination, watchfulness and care. Students in co-educational college should be given more personal attention and care. They need personal counseling and guidance. They should be given education but with care and caution. If proper care is taken there would be no harmful results.

Sometimes, students become over-conscious in matters of fashion in such institutions. They pay undue attention to their personal looks. The students try to attract the attention of the opposite sex in this way. But it is not a very serious problem. It can be solved easily with tact. What is needed is that students should not be allowed to remain idle. There should be a lot of creative activity. And the teachers should be well trained in the psychology of boy and girl students.

Essay No. 01

Co-education

Co-education is a system of educating boys and girls together. In ancient times, co-education existed in Sparta in Greece. There was no discrimination between boys and girls. They studied and played together. Along with academic education, physical training was also given to both sexes.

Plato, the Greek philosopher, believed that co-education helped in the development of personality of both men and women and created a feeling of comradeship among them. In the west, the importance of co-education has been felt since ancient times.

In early Vedic Society, co-education was prevalent in a few places. But gradually female education began to be ignored. Moreover, the system of education was quite different from that of today. The boys stayed in Gurukuls, for the whole educational period. There they received both academic education and physical training. The former included the study of the scriptures and the latter, training in warfare. Girls were not sent to the Gurukuls and thus were deprived of the benefits of education.

In medieval India, those belonging to lower castes and the womenfolk were not allowed to attend schools or study the scriptures. Raja Rammohan Roy, a great social reformer and scholar, fought against this practice and succeeded in his mission. His job was further carried on by other social reformers.

Today co-education is prevalent in almost all the countries of the world. In India, there are a number of co-educational schools, colleges, and universities. There are a number of advantages to the co-educational system of education. It is economical. Poor countries cannot afford to open separate schools for boys and girls are taught together in the same school, then there is no need open separate schools for them. Thus the cost to be incurred on building infrastructure furniture, stationery, personnel recruitment, etc. will be saved.

There is a shortage of well-trained teachers in developing countries like India. if there is co-education, the same staff can teach both boys and girls at the same time in the same class, and the problem of teacher shortage can be dealt with Establishing more of co-educational schools can help in spreading literacy even with the limited teaching staff and infrastructure. Thus co-education is beneficial for both boys and girls and the nations as a whole.

Co-education helps the boys and girls to intermingle and understand each other well. They become more broad-minded and tolerant towards the opposite gender. They interact freely with one another and thereby overcome hesitation and shyness. Thus co-education leads to a healthy and harmonious relationship between boys and girls.

In a co-educational school, boys are free to meet and talk with girls. They develop a feeling of friendship among themselves. Hence, these boys usually do not indulge in eve-testing. Co-education contributes to the balanced development of the personality of boys and girls.

A study has revealed that co-educational schools are better because the presence of girls in classes restrains boys from indulging in unruly behavior and improves their academic performance. In fact, a higher percentage of girls not only lowers the amount of classroom disruption but also fosters a better relationship between students and their teachers. The researchers for and that classes with more than 55 percent of girls resulted in better examination results and less violent outbursts overall. They conclude that this effect is due to the positive influence the girls have on the classroom environment.

In fact, the study found that primary school classrooms with a female majority showed increased academic success for both boys and girls. In the middle and high schools, the classrooms which had the best academic achievements overall were consistently those that had a higher proportion of girls enrolled. The researchers suggest that boys and girls may learn differently, but it is better not to send them to sex-segregated schools.

Boys become conscious of their dressing habits, behavior, and the style of communication in the company of girls. They dress properly, behave well, and talking a decent language. Girls, similarly, overcome their shyness, behave well with boys, and understand them better.

Co-education generates a spirit of healthy competition among boys and girls. They work hard to remain ahead of one another. Co-education reduces gender bias in the society. It generates a feeling of equality between both sexes. The feeling of male dominance may be wiped out from the society if this system of education is given importance.

However, some people are opposed to the system of co-education. According to them, this system is against the Indian culture and tradition. It is also argued that girls feel freer in an institution which is meant only for girls. As such they have a greater scope of developing their personality. They also participate in sports, dramatics, and debates more freely.

Teachers of some subjects like Biology also find it easier to explain some chapters more thoroughly if only girls or boys are sitting in the class. Sex education has also been introduced and in co-educational schools, even teachers find it difficult to discuss such topics in the class.

It is also felt that since students are of impressionable age, the possibility of their going astray is much more in co-educational institutions, where they enjoy more freedom of intermingling with the other sex. They also may not remain focused on their studies.

It should be acknowledged that in the fast-changing society of the twenty-first century co-education has to become the order of the day. Today girls are entering all professions in large numbers. Many of them are heading bug organization. Co-education will help young boys and girls to mix freely and understand one another better. Today’s children are tomorrow’s citizens. We must encourage them to develop their personality in a free and healthy atmosphere. Girls no more have to remain confined to the four walls of the house. Co-education will help both sexes to learn and work together for the progress of the country.

Essay No. 2

In ancient times, co-education was prevalent in Sparta,   a city-state of Greece. Both boys and girls were given academic education and physical training together. There was no discrimination between the boys and the girls. They played and studied together.

Plato, the Greek philosopher, was also in favour of co-education helped in the development of the personality of men and women and created a feeling of comradeship between them. He felt that coeducation was the only method to make both men and women useful members of society. In ancient India also boys and girls were brought up and taught together. They were not segregated from each other.

Nowadays, the system of co-education is in vogue in the U.S.A., Europe, and other advanced countries of the world. In India also, a number of co-educational schools and colleges have been established.

There are a number of advantages to the co-educational system of education. Firstly, if boys and girls are taught together in the same school under the same roof, there will be no need to open separate schools for girls. A poor country like India cannot afford the luxury of opening separate schools for boys and girls. Co-education is thus economical.

Secondly, there is a shortage of trained teachers in India. If the same staff teaches boys and girls together, we can manage with the existing staff of teachers.

Thirdly, if boys and girls study in separate schools, they will grow up in watertight compartments. The result will be that girls will feel shy in the presence of boys. Boys will have curiosity about girls. Co-education helps the boys and girls to inter- mingle and understand each other well. It leads to the harmonious relationship  between boys and girls

Fourthly, co-education generates healthy competition between boys and girls. Both boys and girls. Both boys and girls work hard to remain ahead of each other in studies and sports.

Fifthly, co-education creates a feeling of comradeship between boys and girls. As the boys are free to meet and talk to the girls, they do not indulge in eve-teasing. Girls too do not feel shy in the presence of boys. The system co-education is thus very conducive to the balanced development of the personality of boys and girls.

However, there are some conservative people who are opposed to the system of co-education.  They point out that this system is against our tradition and culture. They approached that if boys and girls study together, the possibility of their developing immoral relationship cannot be ruled out. They also felt that the system of co-education may spoil the character of boys and girls.

But these arguments are not very convincing and do not hold well in modern times. If our experience is any guide, boys dress properly and behave well in the company of girls. They use dignified language. By nature, boys are curious about girls if they study with girls, their curiosity will be satisfied. They will not regard girls as strange creatures. Likewise, if girls are taught with boys, they will not feel shy. They will understand boys better.

Thus, we can say that the advantages of the system of co-education outweigh the disadvantages. Since the boys and the girls have to, later on, live together as husband and wife, there is no point in segregating them in schools or colleges. We should move with the times and open more and more coeducational institutions in India. The hackneyed morality of the medieval ages should not be allowed to stand in the way of the progress of our youth who are the future citizens of India.

Essay No. 03

There was a time when it was believed that boys and girls should be taught in separate institutions. In ancient gurukuls, there were only boys who were given education then. In spite of this, women generally had a good education in ancient India.

After Independence, several education commissions and committees were set up. They generally advocated co-education in schools up to 10+2 level and separate education for boys and girls at the university level till graduation.

This policy is now, by and large, being followed in our country. There is, however, co-education again at the post-graduation level.

Some people believe that co-education should not be there. In their opinion, this can lead to attraction between boys and girls which is neither good for their health, nor character, nor studies.

Some other people are of the view that co-education can bring about a healthy competition between boys and girls and thus it can be of mutual benefit to both sexes. It can mean better discipline since in the presence of girls the boys will not talk irrelevantly or obscenely in the class.

The most potent argument advanced by co-education lovers is that it can help both boys and girls in the development of their personalities. They can come out of their enclosed shell-like personality and get rid of their unwarranted hesitation and shyness.

This can make boys and girls more expressive, progressive, and forward in outlook and attitude to life which can be of great advantage to both sexes.

It must, however, be noted that some reservations are also there and even in a country like England, exclusive schools for girls are now being set up.

Mixed-sex education (or just mixed education), also known as co-education, is the integrated education to males and females at elementary, secondary, or post-secondary levels at the same school facilities. They are not discriminated against based on sex and sent to two different campuses or two different buildings or even two different classrooms. Otherwise, the very purpose of coeducation is defeated, in principle. The opposite situation is described as single-sex or unisex education in which males or females attend the classes exclusively with members of their own sex.

No one can deny the importance of education in society. A nation is built in its educational institutions. Education provides necessary opportunities for the development of many qualities, intellectual, social, and moral, in a person. In India it is the fundamental right of every citizen regardless of religion, class, or sex, to receive education and pursue the vocation of interest for which the institutions need to be available within reach of the populace. Many times, due to various constraints, it may not be feasible to create facilities in fields of higher learning, separately for boys and girls. Hence, coeducation is the answer, especially in respect of higher, professional, and specialized courses e.g. post-graduation, medical, engineering, aviation, business management, fashion designing, and such.

The economic benefits gained from joint classes and the need to secure equality for women in industrial, professional, and political activities have greatly influenced the spread of coeducation. There were scattered examples of coeducation in the 18th century even in developed western countries. The advent of coeducation in the 19th century is indeed an important development. In most countries, coeducation is now favoured over single-sex education, although there is some evidence to suggest that girls perform better in a single-sex institution up to high-school and intermediate(or secondary) levels for which facilities do exist in towns and cities of India. There has been a great upsurge in women’s education, in general, and coeducation in particular in post-independence India.

On the international scene, coeducation has expanded since World War II. In the USA, UK, France, etc 90% of the schools and colleges are coeducational. In 1954, the then USSR returned to its earlier coeducational system which was partly abolished in 1944. In Islamic countries, coeducation is discouraged beyond the infant stage on religious principles.

There are protagonists as well as opponents of education. The opponents do so chiefly on grounds viz. religious, cultural, or possible harm to a girl’s dignity or womanhood. The proponents of coeducation explain how God created humankind. Humans, males, and females work together to survive and exist. They require each other’s existence and support to succeed. For students to succeed, they require coeducation: Many times it happens that single-sex education of females leads to loss of ability to compete academically or socially with males. Coeducation and daily academic competition with males can change females’ attitudes and inculcate self-confidence. Young adults must be conditioned to deal with natural distractions because of sex differences, and what is right and what is wrong at an early age so that when they encounter them later in life, they are able to effectively deal with them. Males and females can learn from each other by pooling their talents.

Coeducation facilitates a microcosm of the real world where social skills can be learnt. A coeducational school helps females to acquire socialization skills that will help them in further schooling and an eventual job in the workforce. Another opinion is that the co-educational schools are better as the presence of girls controls boys – from indulging in unruly behaviour, classroom disruption end improves academic performance.

There are pros and cons to everything, and yes, coeducation too has its positives and negatives. But the ones can be overcome by guiding the children in the right direction; keeping a tab on them and helping them recognize their limitations. Today, the number of coeducational institutions is increasing day by day. It is hoped that with the changing times, parents will start evaluating schools by what they offer and not whether they e single-sex or coeducational; and children will understand their norms, and not go astray.

Essay No. 05

Co-education is a system of education where boys and girls study together. In most of the schools and colleges in India and abroad, co-education is prevalent. There are, however, few good educational institutions that are strictly meant for boys or girls as has been the Indian tradition since very ancient times.

Educationists have now realised the benefits of co-education and they are consciously working to would a society where men and women share the work in every field. The new educational institutions coming up are invariably co-educational. Co-education removes the inhibition present in the boys when they come across members of the opposite sex. If boys and girls are brought up together in schools and colleges, they can talk and exchange ideas freely without barriers and accept each other as human beings.

Men have a natural impulse to please the opposite sex. As a result, they behave and dress well. This is true of both sexes. Men learn to be polite, gallant, and courteous. Women to show admirable behaviour. In the same way, boys in schools and colleges work much harder. The girls too, in order to super cede the boys devote a great deal of time in studies which they would in all probability spend otherwise, whiling away their time in idle work. Hence co-education provides the atmosphere for healthy competition.

The end result of co-education is a more mature, more level-headed better adult. Co-education makes the girls bold and fearless. They are thus better able to face the male-dominated society and can fight for their rightful place in society single-handedly. On the whole, co-education is essential for a progressive society where men and women must co-operate to build a better world.

Co-Education in India

Essay No. 06

Co-education is the education of boys and girls at the same institution. Co-education has many advantages. First of all, a common school for boys and girls reduces the burden on the government to provide the state with more schools. Secondly, a free exchange of ideas between boys and girls gives rise to a healthy relationship between the two sexes. Girls do not become giggly and silly when they see boys because they realize that they are not really different from them.

Had there been a distance between them, there would have been more of a scope for curiosity about the other sex and that could sometimes lead the children to behave foolishly. A free interchange of ideas between them would make them friends and good companions. Studying together, boys and girls get a chance to learn about each other better. Girls are better at needlework etc. and boys are usually better with electrical gadgets etc. While working at these activities together, both could learn from each other and in fact, help each other to become better at these. When it comes to competing with one another in the field of academics, one realizes that boys and girls are almost the same in terms of potential and capability. This generates mutual respect between them and they see each other as human beings rather than specimens of some kind. Co-education should be encouraged right from kindergarten so that children grow up with the right attitude towards each other. Interaction of this kind can build more confidence in the minds of the children and they will never hesitate before talking to someone of the opposite sex.

Although there are many schools in India where coeducation is not a practice and they are quite successful in the long run, co-educational schools are becoming increasingly popular.
