RYA Powerboat Level 2
Five seasons experience of powerboating logged (preferably in range of boat types and sizes) OR one season for those who use powerboats as an integral part of their normal full-time occupation.
Candidates must attend a skills assessment prior to their instructor training course. Details can be found in the RYA Power Schemes Instructor Handbook (G19)
Three day course assessed by an independent Trainer on the third day.
Candidates who are already qualified as an RYA Yachtmaster Instructor (power) may attend a one day conversion course, rather than the full three day course.

Up to and including Powerboat Level 2 under the supervision of the Principal or Chief Instructor. If you hold the Safety Boat Certificate, you may also teach the RYA Safety Boat Course.

Rya powerboat instructor course aim:.
Equip new RYA Powerboat Instructor (PBI) candidates with the skills and knowledge required to teach the RYA Powerboat Scheme at RYA centres in the UK and overseas.
The PBI Skills Test takes a day and the Powerboat Instructor Course is 3 days, so the combined programme is 4 days.
The emphasis is on how to teach the relevant skills and how to debrief students. Successful candidates become qualified to teach RYA Level 1 , Level 2 courses and assess ICC students at RYA Powerboat Training Centres.
RYA Powerboat Instructor training takes place with 2-6 candidates on the course. The RYA does not sanction 1:1 Instructor courses. There will be up to 3 candidates per boat.
PBI and Advanced Instructor Courses are taught by Powerboat Trainers. We are one of the very few training centress in the world that has Two Advanced Powerboat Trainers on its staff. This means we can be much more flexible with training dates.
Our Instructor courses make use of our 6 & 7m wheel steered RIBs , and our Rigiflex 400 tiller steered powerboat.

If you’re a competent, experienced powerboater and you’re interested in sharing your expertise and enthusiasm with others, this could be the course for you! This RYA approved course will equip you with the knowledge and skills you need to teach RYA Powerboat Levels 1 and 2 at any recognised RYA training centres.
This practical and theory-based course will allow you to develop an understanding of the principles of practical instruction, lesson planning, teaching styles, the preparation of boats and equipment, the structure of RYA Powerboat Levels 1 and 2, assessing students’ learning, and the presentation of theory subjects. The syllabus is taught with a ratio of (6:1) students to instructor.
Providing that you maintain a valid first aid certificate, this course will be valid for five years from the date of issue.

Our RYA Powerboat Instructor Course is designed to equip you with the essential skills and knowledge needed to effectively instruct the RYA National Powerboat Scheme in a safe and proficient manner.
The course runs over 4 days, including the pre-assessment, and includes both practical and theoretical training scenarios.
During the training, candidates will deliver short sessions to enhance their personal skills and teaching capabilities within a secure training environment. The course focuses on teaching effective methods of instruction, coaching techniques, debriefing strategies, and course structuring.
While skill revision is included, proficiency in powerboating is a prerequisite for participation in this course.
All aspiring Powerboat Instructors must complete a mandatory 1-day pre-assessment course to evaluate their personal boat handling skills. This assessment is conducted on the first day of the course, and the fee for the pre-assessment is included in the overall course fee.
Course prerequisites include completion of the pre-assessment, possession of valid certifications such as a First Aid Certificate, RYA Powerboat Level 2, and RYA VHF Short Range Certificate. Candidates must also have at least 5 years of powerboating experience (or one season full-time equivalent), and the minimum age requirement is 16 years old. Ideally, candidates should have familiarity with a range of craft to broaden their knowledge of powerboats. Additionally, it is recommended that candidates have theory knowledge at the RYA Day Skipper Theory level, with holding the certificate being advisable.

The RYA Powerboat Instructor Course is the first step on the RYA Powerboat Instructor ladder. Ocean Sports Tuition is now pleased to be able offer these course as our Principal has been appointed as an RYA Powerboat Trainer.
This means you will not only get the best possible Instructor training but an an insight into setting up and operating an RYA Powerboat school.
The RYA Powerboat Instructor Course is 3 days of training and assessment. The final day is a moderation day, this is assessed by another RYA Powerboat Trainer. Although day 3 is a moderation day it is still a training day so you will also have the added benefit of two trainers on your moderation day.

Monday: Skills assessment 0930 – 1700
Tuesday – Thursday: 0900 – 1700
On successful completion of the three day RYA Powerboat Instructor Course students will be able to teach the RYA Powerboat Level 1 and 2 courses at RYA recognised training centres.
WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
To take part in this course, five years powerboat experience is required, this is reduced to one year if powerboats are an integral part of your full time job. There is a minimum age of 16 year old to undertake this course.
Candidates will also need an approved First Aid Course as well have attended an RYA Powerboat Skills Assessment. You will also need to be a member of the RYA. Please Join the RYA today if you’re not yet a member.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
Students will learn how to impart their current knowledge and skills to their new RYA Powerboat students. You will learn: lesson planning, different types of learning styles, structure of lessons, structure of the RYA and where you will fit into the RYA Powerboat scheme, how to set up an RYA Powerboat centre, as well as having plenty of opportunities to put your new instructor skills into practice on the water and in the classroom.
On successful completion of the course you will be able to teach the RYA Powerboat Level 1 and Level 2 courses, if you hold the RYA Safety Boat Course certificate you will also be able to teach this course. These RYA Powerboat courses can be taught at a RYA recognised centre.
