Scotland’s finest marina is perfectly situated in the Firth of Clyde for sheltered island sailing and just 40 minutes from Glasgow and Prestwick Airports.  Achieving the highest industry award, 5 gold anchors, for service, standards and facilites, the Yacht Haven offers 24 hour fuel, gas and helpful staff, 7 day week travel hoist (70 ton and 45 ton) and a fully serviced boatyard for 250 boats.  Dry berthing is also on offer to RIBS and small motor boats Within the marina courtyard visitors can enjoy quality food and beverage from Scotts Restaurant/bar and the Bosuns’s Table bistro, as well as marine shopping and even a spa! Largs Sailing Club offers warm hospitality to visiting club members and to international championship events throughout the summer.  Largs town, a busy tourist town with shops, supermarkets etc, is only a 20 minute walk along the seafront path.

We can offer you yachts from 31ft to 46ft that can sleep up to 10. We are Based at Largs Yacht Haven on the Ayrshire Coast and at Oban on The West Coast of Scotland. You will find superb access to some of the most beautiful sailing grounds in Scotland from our Bases. Our fleet of 10 yachts is ready for you to charter. You can you sail from Largs and enjoy the glorious Firth of Clyde with its lovely harbours and splendid sheltered anchorages and bays and can also offer you the opportunity to charter from Oban Town Pontoons to explore the wonderful Highland & Islands.

Sail Scotland with “SeaSpray Yacht Charters”

Up to six of our yachts will spend some of the summer 2024 on the West Coast and can be chartered from Oban & Kerrera. This allows the more adventurous sailors to explore the Western Isles, Mull, The Small Isles and Skye and perhaps venture as far as the Outer Hebrides.

Largs, on the Firth of Clyde is a splendid base to sail from. Within a few hours you can be moored up in the sheltered Kyles of Bute and enjoy the peaceful tranquillity of the lovely Scottish countryside and wildlife. If you wish to head out into the Firth of Clyde you can sail around the Isle of Arran and there’s lots to explore from Cowal to Kintyre, Tarbert to Campbeltown. All the ports and anchorages within the Clyde are in easy reach and will certainly give you the chance of a special and most memorable sailing holiday. If you are feeling more adventurous, then Ireland could be in your plans or maybe it’s off to Islay round the Mull of Kintyre or through the delightful Crinan Canal to the magnificent Western Isles.

Three of our Yachts:- Rona, Moonsong & Boarding Pass are dedicated to The Firth of Clyde and can be Chartered from Largs throughout the Sailing Season.

Oban Town Pontoons.

Three of our Yachts:- Frolika, Morpheus, & Glenmaginn are based at Oban and can be chartered from the centre of the town from The Oban Town Pontoons.

Kadore has joined us from Crinan where she can be chartered.

Based at Largs & operating out of Oban in the Summer we have:-

Deja Vue, Midnight Mirage, & Havana. They spend the summer exploring the glorious Highlands & Islands from Oban.

Largs Marina is noteworthy in that it has some excellent facilities. There is an excellent restaurant, a friendly cafe and a well-stocked chandlery. Great showers too. It’s easy to park in Largs, there’s lots of space and it’s free. It’s easy to get to Largs. Both Glasgow Airport & Prestwick Airport are only 50 minutes away with good rail and bus links.

The Oban Town Pontoons are quite magnificent. Right in the centre of Oban and a short walk from the bus & train station. Lots of good places to wine & dine within a few metres !

For Oban it is best to go from Glasgow if you are using public transport or you are arriving by air.

Edinburgh Airport has an excellent and frequent 1 Hour bus service to Glasgow.

A taxi takes about 2hrs to Oban and there are good bus and rail services from Glasgow city centre. If you need assistance in arranging transport, we can help.

Sea Life is abundant wherever you go!

Over the years our charterers have spotted an amazing variety of birds: puffins, gannets, cormorants, guillemots, and eagles soaring above the island crags is an amazing sight to be seen. Porpoises, dolphins, basking sharks, seals and minke whales are often sighted and a 40ft humpback whale was spotted at Tighnabruich in The Kyles of Bute summer 2015 and later spotted in Loch Fyne by one of our charterers.

Within the Clyde Estuary the scenery is varied and magnificent. Sail along the glorious Sea Lochs, Loch Fyne and Loch Long and through the tranquil Kyles of Bute. Enjoy sailing around the spectacular isle of Arran.

It's also easy to reach Northern Ireland. Belfast Loch has great marinas, and you can sail within walking distance of the city centre. Rathlin Island & Ballycastle are also popular destinations.

There are wonderful sailing opportunities on The West Coast. You can visit: Islay, Ghia, Jura, Rhum, Eigg, Mull and Skye; just a few of the beautiful islands to sail to. There are many remote and historic anchorages to explore on the Islands and on the spectacular West Coast.

We can occasionally arrange for Charters out to and from Crinan, Croabh Haven, Ardfern, Dunstaffnage and Mallaig on certain of our yachts. If you need more than a week to fit it all in, then it can be arranged !

Yacht Haven Largs

Largs Yacht Haven is Scotland’s Finest Marina located in the sheltered and scenic waters of the Firth of Clyde.  Island harbours and anchorages are as little as half an hour’s sail away.

We have 700 berths afloat and room for 250 boats ashore.  With an integral slipway dry berthing packages are suited to RIBs and motor boats.  The marina operates 24 hrs for fuel and service, our 45 ton and 70 ton travel hoists operate 7 days a week.  Ashore every marine service is available together with high class food and beverage open throughout the year.

The marina hosts many national and international sailing events  run by Largs Sailing Club whose clubhouse is on site.  The Coastal Path links the marina to the busy seaside town of Largs, a perfect walk or cycle using the bikes that are available for hire..

Boatyard services for resident and visiting yachts

We're proud of our reputation as having the most helpful and experienced staff here at Largs Yacht Haven, and we're delighted to offer a range of yard services for resident and visiting yachts.

Hoisting, Lifting & Launching

Our 70 and 45 ton travel hoists operate 7 days a week, all-year round, and we offer a 24-hour emergency call out service. Lifting takes place from our deep water hoist dock and boats can be lifted and held in the hoist for an hour or overnight for small jobs, or stored ashore. Vessels can be lifted to and from road transport as required.

Our crane can be used for all sorts of jobs including mast-stepping and engine lifts as required.

Storage Ashore

There's space ashore for 230 boats, fully serviced with power and water. Vessels are safely positioned on chocks or in cradles (available to hire from the marina). All boats are pressure washed before being stored ashore, and we set up the yard carefully to ensure your boat is easily accessible at all times. There's also a secure compound for trailer storage.

If you haven't been lifted out by our boatyard before, please contact the Marina Office to discuss your requirements and hull type.

Annual berth holders can take advantage of free storage ashore, all-year round. Subject to space and please book well in advance.

Are you looking for somewhere to store your boat for the winter? Our boatyard is a very popular location for winter boat storage in Ayrshire. We advise booking your winter lift-out as early as possible. And when booking, please provide details of your specific requirements and let us know if you require a cradle. We offer great packages for winter storage ashore and winter berthing afloat.

Boat Cleaning

We offer various types of boat cleaning including our great value Lift & Scrubs. 

During the warmer summer months, algae grows faster on boat hulls reducing boat performance and fuel efficiency. It is recommended that you come out of the water for a Lift & Scrub at least once during the summer to maintain your hull efficiency and prolong the life of your boat. If you are a keen racer, you may wish to book a Lift & Scrub at more regular intervals. 

If you are coming ashore for an extended period, your boat wash is included in your price.

For RIBs and motor boats up to 8m. Keep your boat in pristine condition by storing her ashore and let us launch and recover her whenever you want to go boating. No need to antifoul – performance is better, fuel consumption is reduced and there’s no need to worry about the boat filling with rainwater. Unlimited launch and recovery for Dry Berthing customers, 7 days a week, all-year round at just two hour's notice. Trailers can also be stored at Largs Yacht Haven.

If you have a preferred contractor or you need a specialist, you're able to use your own choice of third party contractors. There’s no daily access fee to pay, but please ask them to share a copy of their insurance documents with the Marina office before getting started.

Motorhome & Caravan Storage

We are licenced with the Caravan and Motorhome Club to provide 5 serviced pitches throughout the year. We also offer yard storage for motorhomes, caravans, campervans and RVs.

Every boatyard service we provide is unique to the customer, boat and length of stay.

With 730 berths, and a safe and sheltered location on the Clyde at the gateway to the west coast cruising grounds among its many attributes, it’s not surprising Largs Yacht Haven continues to hold its reputation as one of finest Scottish marinas writes Sue Pelling .

About this Scottish marina

Largs Yacht Haven, which celebrates its 40 th anniversary this year, is located within the sheltered waters of the Firth of Clyde. Yacht Havens built and opened this Scottish marina back in 1984 from a stretch of virgin beach just to the south of the delightful coastal town of Largs and is now a notable Five Gold Anchor marina with a good reputation. 

Not only does keeping a yacht in this marina offer peace of mind in terms of shelter and 24-hour security, but because of its convenient location – approximately 30 miles from Glasgow – Airport, and with train connections – it also attracts commuters as well as locals. The allure of berthing a yacht at the gateway to the west coast of Scotland and spending the spring or summer exploring the western isles has become more and more doable thanks improved travel links and budget airlines.

Its convenient location, and world class sailing area are also among the reason why Largs has become a favourite venue for hosting national and international sailing events. This Scottish marina is home to Largs Sailing Club, the Firth of Clyde Coastal Rowing Club, Fairlie Yacht Club, and is the Scottish base for the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust . As you can imagine, it is a hub of activity throughout the year, with the August Bank Holiday Largs Regatta Festival, and the Scottish Two-handed Race Scotland’s two of the most popular local events, which regularly attract a huge following.

Given its broad appeal, you’ll find the facilities at Largs Yacht Haven are high end and offer everything you’d expect from a Yacht Havens facility including the group’s friendly helpful staff that ensure your stay is as stress-free as possible. The marina is staffed 24/7 and accessible at all states of the tide.

Passage Planning for this Scottish marina

The approach to this Scottish marina is via the Largs Channel and, from the south, is between Little Cumbrae Island and Farland Head on the mainland. Navigation lights mark the port and starboard breakwaters (occulting 10 secs). The deepwater approaches to the entrance are marked with a lit safe water mark. (L.Fl.10s).

Because the marina is well-protected by the adjacent Cumbrae Islands and the islands to the west it possible to enter the marina most conditions. However, in a big breeze, significant swell can develop in the Largs channel on the approach.

Cruising Aground

Given its location amidst lochs and islands, there is so much to see and do. The cruising is exceptional with interesting fishing villages and harbours to explore as close as a half-hour sail away. The inner Clyde provides an excellent opportunity for day cruising, while the more expansive west coast and Ireland are just a day’s sail away.

For a short hop 4nm away, Millport at the southern end the Isle of Cumbrae is a good option. Known as the ‘Jewel of the Clyde’ this is a great spot for those with families because as well as a sandy beach, there are plenty of shopping, golf, fishing and cycling opportunities. 

For another short passage, head to Rothesay (Isle of Bute) just 6nm north. This is a pretty fishing harbour and a lively town with shops, restaurants, and pubs just a few steps from the harbour. The visitor pontoons are in Rothesay harbour and nearby Port Bannatyne.

There is plenty to see and do on Loch Fyne too, with Tarbert 22nm from Largs. This quaint and atmospheric fishing village offers fantastic views from Robert the Bruce’s 14th century castle and it’s a great place for a hike to the pretty shell-lined beach at the end of Pier Road.

Sail approximately 16nm southwest from Largs and you’ll reach Brodick on the Isle of Arran. With plenty of hills and beautiful views it’s another great place for hike, plus the village has lots to offer including hotels, restaurants, and a golf course. Brodick Castle is also well worth a visit.

A trip to Troon Yacht Haven – sister marina to Largs Yacht Haven is a must because as a berth holder not least because you get reciprocal mooring. It’s just 20nm down the coast from Largs and is blessed with beautiful scenery, and some of the finest golf courses in the world. It’s also a recommended place for fine dining with cocktails on the terrace at Scotts, which overlooks the marina.

Largs is not that far, relatively speaking, from Ardrishaig either, just 32nm taking in the scenic Kyles of Bute. Ardrishaig marks the start of the Crinan Canal, which is effectively a short cut to the Argyll coast and islands, Skye, and the Outer Hebrides and beyond.
