Caribbean Yachting Season

The Caribbean high season for yacht charters runs from mid-December to early May, with Christmas and New Year’s the most popular and busiest times of the year. But due to the islands’ locations near the equator, temperatures remain ideal throughout the year, making off-season charters just as enjoyable.

Keep in mind, however, that there is an increased chance for storms and hurricanes during the summer season, mainly from mid-August to mid-November. Most charter yachts leave the area during that time.

Area Guide: Caribbean Charter Destinations

A girl snorkeling in the BVI

Are you ready to explore all that the Caribbean has to offer? There are three main island areas in the Caribbean, all fantastic destinations for Caribbean charter yacht vacations.

The Grenadines

The Grenadines are untouched by mass tourism and industry, and they are the perfect charter destination if you are looking for solitude and you enjoy exploring remote areas. A great combination of lush rain forests and sandy beaches awaits!

This is a great summer charter destination because the islands aren’t usually affected by hurricanes.

The Leeward Islands

Leeward Islands yacht rentals offer the perfect combination of luxury and solitude. You can visit the glitzy islands of St. Maarten and St. Barts one day and get lost in the remoteness and tranquility of Anguilla the next day.

These islands are rich in history and offer great restaurants, upscale resorts, and trendy harbors.

The Virgin Islands

The Virgin Islands are the perfect location for first-time charterers and families because of their calm waters, protected natural anchorages, and short distances between the islands.

The BVI are a great destination for a catamaran or sailing yacht charter. Caribbean locations here have constant yet mild trade winds year round, and the area offers fantastic diving and snorkeling.

Where Can I Charter a Yacht?

When you choose Worldwide Boat as your Caribbean yacht charter broker, we can help you charter a luxury boat anywhere in the Caribbean or anywhere else you’d like to go, from the Mediterranean to Alaska to the Galapagos Islands.

How Do I Book a Private Yacht?

The best Caribbean yacht charters can be booked in just a few easy steps:

  • Choose our experienced yacht charter specialists to assist you through the process of booking a yacht.
  • Search by destination or by boat, or use our advanced search tool to filter your options by the number of guests, yacht type, destination, and/or your budget.
  • Pick the option that best fits your needs and your dream vacation.
  • Reserve your yacht by signing a contract with the yacht owner.
  • Enjoy your vacation!

How Much Does it Cost to Charter a Yacht in the Caribbean?

Weekly rates for Caribbean boat charters are dependent on a number of factors, including the type of yacht, the season, and your destination. Motor yachts, for example, typically range from $15,000 (yachts up to 80 feet) to $150,000 or more (yachts over 150 feet) per week.

During the Caribbean high season (Christmas, New Year’s, and January/February), yacht charter Caribbean prices tend to increase slightly. Areas with large charter fleets, like St. Martin, tend to have more competitive pricing than areas with smaller fleets.

How Much Does it Cost to Charter a Catamaran in the Caribbean?

Most catamarans offer all-inclusive rates, which start at $10,000 for catamarans under 50 feet and run up to $50,000 or more for catamarans of 80 feet or more. The Caribbean is an ideal destination for a catamaran charter, and across the region, you’ll find a variety of sailing and power cats available for charter.

Ultimately, the cost of a catamaran charter is dependent on the time you visit, where you go, local taxes, and the number of ports you visit. A luxury yacht charter in the Caribbean’s high season (New Year’s or Christmas) will cost significantly more than a catamaran charter in summer.

Can I Rent a Yacht for a Day?

Rates for yacht rentals are usually weekly, but when you talk to a Caribbean yacht charter broker at Worldwide Boat, we can look at your budget, plans, and interests to help you get the best experience possible.

Caribbean Yachting Hotspots

Caribbean sailing charters give you access to white-sand beaches and laid-back island vibes, but they can also offer action-packed itineraries. From island-hopping and hiking to snorkeling and cliff-jumping, adventure awaits on a Caribbean yacht charter!

Some of the region’s must-see destinations include:

  • St. Martin : Known for its upscale eateries and amazing cuisine, as well as high-end spas, shopping and casinos, St. Martin is the yachting capital of the Caribbean. This island is part French and part Dutch, and it’s close to islands like St. Barts and Anguilla, making it a favorite jumping-off point for island-hopping adventures.
  • St. Barts : St. Barts (sometimes called St. Barths) beckons A-listers to its posh beach clubs, fashionable shops, and five-star eateries. Visitors will find a collection of truly spectacular powdery beaches, Michelin-starred restaurants, and excellent shoreside amenities, all within cruising distance of St. Martin.
  • Antigua : Antigua epitomizes the relaxation and bliss of the Caribbean. Known for its 365 beaches (one for every day of the year), the tiny island is a sailor’s dream, offering warm waters, steady winds, safe anchorages, and a lively regatta calendar.
  • Grenada : Grenada is revered for its beautiful beaches, abundant marine wildlife, and vibrant cuisine (spiced with local nutmeg, mace, and allspice). Spend a day relaxing on Grand Anse Beach, which is consistently ranked one of the best in the world. Island-hop to neighboring isles like Petite Martinique, or spend a day snorkeling one of Grenada’s famous reefs.
  • Anguilla : Anguilla is one of the most tranquil Leeward islands. Escape to Dream Bay or one of the numerous nearby coral cays for some supreme R&R. A diving and snorkeling mecca, Anguilla is home to some of the Caribbean’s best shipwreck dives. Plus, the island boasts a calendar of must-see festivals and events, including a jazz festival in November and Carnival in August.

Why Charter a Yacht in the Caribbean?

The best Caribbean yacht charters offer a bit of everything: Relaxation, sun-soaked beaches, delicious culinary treats, refreshing rum-infused cocktails, and calm waters for cruising. Here are some highlights:

The Inescapable Beauty of White-Sand Beaches

Caribbean beaches have almost a mythical quality to them. It’s no wonder explorers were once willing to board wooden ships and travel thousands of miles just to see them in person.

Every island offers a selection of untouched and charming beaches for you to explore. From one-of-a-kind places like “Pig Beach” in the Bahamas to the cosmopolitan Great Bay Beach in Philipsburg, St. Martin, the beaches across the Caribbean offer legendary sights and attractions.

Colorful Celebrations and Friendly Faces

The Caribbean is known for its parades, bars, nightclubs, and parties, not to mention world-famous cocktails. When you want to step off of your luxury yacht charter, Caribbean shores and islands offer a world of fun to immerse yourself in.

A few must-see events include the St. Barth’s Bucket (if you’re into superyacht racing), the annual Carnival celebration, and the St. Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival .

Amazing Wildlife and Adventure

If snorkeling in vibrant and colorful coral reefs, diving into underwater museums, or parasailing over clear waters are some of the items on your bucket list, you can certainly get it all done during your visit to the Caribbean.

You’ll find a variety of unique adventures, from the underwater sculpture park of the Grenadines to the natural seaside baths in Virgin Gorda and hiking the Pitons in St. Lucia. The Caribbean gives you to plenty of chances to get outside and enjoy yourself.

Nonstop Relaxation

Because the area is so close to the equator, the Caribbean offers warm weather to lounge in all year round. Feel pampered aboard a luxury crewed rental yacht, and then feel calm while sinking your toes into soft, powdery white sand. Enjoy the spas, rum cocktails, and quiet, isolated beaches: Charter guests can experience supreme relaxation in the Caribbean.

Charter a yacht in the BVI's

The British Virgin Islands include Tortola, Jost Van Dyke, Virgin Gorda, and more. There’s no better way to experience the waters and beaches of the BVI's than on a private Caribbean charter with a full crew to pamper you. Of all the islands in the Caribbean, the Virgins are furthest north. This makes them very convenient due to the proximity to San Juan and due to their direct flights from the United States. Catamaran sailing vacations and crewed sailing charters are very popular in the islands, and their protected waters make them a favorite spot for guests that are taking their first private Caribbean yacht charter. To learn more about them:

Charter a yacht in the USVI

The U.S. Virgin Islands consist mainly of the three large islands of St. Thomas, St. Croix, and St. John. With lovely bays, long beaches, lush nature preserves, fabulous diving spots, and excellent, onshore evening entertainment, many choose to vacation in the USVI’s. Caribbean charters often visit both the BVI’s and USVI’s during the same week, as they are close to one another and the waters are generally calmer than in other parts of the Caribbean. They in general are also home to the largest fleet of crewed, all-inclusive, luxury catamarans. To find out more about them:

Charter a Caribbean yacht

The Leewards are situated in the middle of the Caribbean Island chain. The major airports are located on St. Maarten and Antigua. Due to the English, Dutch, and French influences everywhere you look, they exhibit the best example of cultural sophistication anywhere within the Caribbean. If you are looking to see where the rich and famous go on vacation, you will want to visit the island of St. Barts; for many this is a must stop for a Caribbean yacht charter. Many mega yachts are available for rental in St. Maarten, as it has become a popular mega yacht Caribbean base for the winter. To learn more about the Leewards:

Grenadines

The Grenadines are also called The Windward Islands. Oftentimes our guests will choose a sailing charter over a motor yacht when in the Grenadines, due to the more constant tropical breezes that occur. The islands are much less developed than the rest of the Caribbean, and the inhabitants live on their own time schedule, which enhances the feeling of getting away. The northern most island accessible by air is ST. Vincent, while the southern tip’s major airport is on Grenada. There are fewer Caribbean charter yachts based here; however, occasionally some charter yachts are happy to relocate in order to offer a vacation that happens a little off the beaten path. To find out more about the Grenadines:

Caribbean Charters - When To Go.

One of the lovely things about the Caribbean is that the temperatures remain consistent throughout the year; however, there are some other weather considerations that you will want to factor in when making your caribbean yachting vacation plans. Read More....

Vacations here are most popular between November and July.

If you are thinking of a megayacht, you will want to keep in mind that many of these private yachts which are Caribbean based in winter leave in the late spring and early summer months. They will return again in early winter; however, this does limit their availability. To charter a mega yacht, you will want to make sure that you do so well in advance.

Motor, sail, or catamaran yachts, on the other hand, often have selections available year round. Holidays like Christmas, New Year’s, and Easter do need to be planned for as early as possible as these are very popular charter times.

The availability for Caribbean charters can also be affected by the weather in other climates, for instance, when the severity of the weather is bad in the United States or Europe, especially between January and February, the charters are often booked. This is due to many clients looking for a break from the cold.

What Do Our Clients Say About The Caribbean?

Are you excited yet? You should be! Our clients have enjoyed fantastic Caribbean vacations. There is an endless number of places to visit in the Caribbean, from smaller islands to absolutely must be seen locations like St. Barts. New to charter?

The Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) is due at the time of the final charter payment. Under MYBA terms, this sum is usually equivalent to 30 per cent of the total charter fee, but may be up to 40 per cent in some cases.

Intended to cover the operating expenses of a charter as explained under Charter Terms, such as fuel, food, drinks, port fees and ad hoc incidentals, the APA will be given to the captain before the start of your charter. The Captain will ensure that the yacht is fully fuelled and provisioned when you step on board. While an up-to-date summary of accounts can be requested at any time during your charter, a full set of accounts will normally be submitted by your captain at the end of the cruise. If, during the charter, the expenditure exceeds the sum already paid, additional cash funds will be required at once.

All outstanding bills from the yacht charter should be settled in cash or by bank transfer before your final disembarkation. Of course, any remaining credit at the end of your charter will be reimbursed to you in full. On request, transfer arrangements to and from the yacht can be made by Burgess or by the yacht’s captain, payment for which will be deducted from your APA.

An exquisite island jewel located 22 miles southeast of St. Martin and north of St. Kitts, this swanky destination is designed for the discerning traveler. This idyllic paradise, reminiscent of a tropical version of France, captivates visitors on a St. Barths yacht charter with its lush and hilly landscapes and turquoise waters. A luxury yacht charter in St. Barths seamlessly complements the island’s exclusive ambiance, offering an unrivaled way to arrive, explore, and stay a while.

Yacht Charter in the Caribbean

Discover a little piece of paradise with a yacht charter in the Caribbean . The dreamy white sandy beaches surrounded by turquoise waters and palm trees will make you feel like you have arrived in a Windows screen saver. You can take the days to relax in the sun and wake up to a beautiful sunrise or explore what the lively cities of the Caribbean have to offer. Amazing food and a bustling nightlife await you here.

Charter a yacht in the Caribbean with a skipper

Renting a boat in the Caribbean with a skipper is your key to unlocking a seamless, stress-free maritime journey. The Caribbean, renowned for its crystal-clear waters, lush landscapes, and vibrant cultures, beckons explorers to its enchanting shores. With a skipper at the helm, you can navigate the Caribbean's idyllic waters effortlessly while delving into the region's hidden gems. Whether you're an experienced sailor or a novice looking to relax and relish every moment, a skipper ensures a smooth voyage, allowing you to unwind, explore, and create lasting memories. Revel in the delights of the Caribbean, from snorkeling in vibrant coral reefs to indulging in local cuisine and savoring the tranquility of secluded beaches. Your Caribbean adventure with a skipper promises to be a remarkable journey filled with comfort, relaxation, and exploration.

Sailing Conditions in the Caribbean

The Caribbean covers a wide range of topographically diverse islands so it is worth noting that the islands offer slightly differing climates. Conditions vary along this long island chain, from the calmer waters around the BVI to more energetic conditions in the south along the Windward Islands trail.

The Easterly Trade wind is the most prominent and consistent wind in the Caribbean and is strongest in December and January. In general, you can expect average winds of 10 to 25 knots. However, consistent currents and trade winds around the British Virgin Islands, for example, are calmer, and usually well below 20 knots. From June to November, the trade wind is often less predictable and stable, making the winter months the best time to opt for a yacht charter in the Caribbean . The months between December and May are also the driest months in the Caribbean. The perfect winter escape destination!

On average, the Caribbean is blessed with ideal temperatures in the mid to upper 20’s. On some islands, like Martinique, expect air temperatures to be in the mid 30s. The sea temperatures are equally warm and with wave heights usually well under a meter, the Caribbean is a true paradise for a relaxed boat holiday.

Check individual destinations for information on the best times and any physical obstacles to be aware of while navigating these gorgeous sailing waters. Generally speaking, early morning sailing in the early part of the year will make for the calmest conditions. Remember, you can also book a skippered sailing holiday in the Caribbean with Zizoo for the most relaxing holiday experience.

When is the best time to visit the Caribbean?

Selecting the optimal time for a yacht charter in the Caribbean hinges on your preference for experiences and weather. The Caribbean is a year-round haven, but each season has its unique charm.

High Season (December to April): This period is renowned for its ideal weather conditions, with cooler temperatures and gentle trade winds. It's the prime time for sailing, sun-soaked beaches, and lively festivals. However, it's also the busiest season, so booking well in advance is recommended.

Shoulder Season (May to June and November): These transitional months offer a sweet spot between the high and low seasons. You can still enjoy pleasant weather and fewer crowds. Prices may also be more budget-friendly.

Low Season (July to October): The Caribbean's low season is characterized by warmer temperatures and the possibility of tropical storms and hurricanes. You should probably avoid the Caribbean during this time of year - after all, there are no boat rentals available during this time of year anyway.

Ultimately, the best time for your Caribbean yacht charter depends on your preferences, but with its year-round appeal, the Caribbean ensures unforgettable experiences whenever you choose to set sail.

Who should rent a yacht in the Caribbean?

Whether you're a budding sailor or a seasoned mariner, the Caribbean's azure waters, diverse landscapes, and vibrant cultures offer an array of experiences tailored to your expertise.

For Novice Sailors: If you're new to sailing, consider destinations like the British Virgin Islands. Its calm, protected waters, and straightforward navigation make it an ideal training ground. The Exumas in the Bahamas offer shallow waters, line-of-sight navigation, and consistent trade winds, providing a comfortable setting for learners. For a more relaxed experience, Antigua's well-marked coastline beckons.

For Advanced Sailors: Those with sailing proficiency can explore more challenging regions. The Grenadines offer exciting winds, and the Grenada to St. Vincent passage offers excellent offshore practice. The Bahamas' Abacos, with their sheltered anchorages, provide a diverse island hopping route. In Martinique, you'll find a perfect blend of trade winds and more spirited sailing opportunities.

For Pro Sailors: If you're a pro sailor, the Caribbean presents limitless opportunities for thrilling experiences. The Bahamas' Nassau and Exumas offer challenges in open water passages. St. Martin and St. Barths bring stronger trade winds for exhilarating sailing. In St. Lucia, you can embrace the thrill of offshore cruising with the Atlantic winds at your back.

What you need to know about a catamaran charter in the Caribbean

Pros of a Caribbean catamaran charter

Charter a catamaran in the Caribbean if you want to explore all the magical beaches this region of the world has to offer. Whether you just want to stay north in the Bahamas or the British Virgin Islands or sail further south to Martinique or Trinidad and Tobago, there is something for everyone. Catamarans have a shallow draft, making them the ideal water vehicles for these kinds of undertakings.

A catamaran rental in the Caribbean is perfect for anyone who enjoys the flexibility of these wonderful water vehicles. They have both a sail and an engine, allowing you to sail with the wind when it’s strong enough to move the boat forward, but also giving you the option to use the engine when the wind is either not strong enough or not present at all. That way you won’t ever get stuck in the middle of the sea.

Rent a catamaran in the Caribbean if you enjoy a certain level of comfort. Catamarans are often bigger than other types of boats, which also allows for bigger rooms. That way you won’t necessarily feel like sleeping in a tiny cabin on board a boat, but rather like sleeping in a small, but comfortable hotel room.

Cons of a Caribbean catamaran charter

One of the downsides of a catamaran charter in the Caribbean is that catamarans are relatively big in size. This can pose some challenges when trying to find a spot for mooring at the marinas. Keep in mind that securing a spot for mooring also means that you will most likely pay extra for the extra space you’re taking up.

Another downside of a catamaran hire in the Caribbean is the fact that catamarans are often a lot lighter than other kinds of boats. This can have an effect on their speed. So if you are planning on sailing long distances in one go, a catamaran might not be the best choice for you.

Pros of renting a sailboat in the Caribbean

A sailboat rental in the Caribbean is perfect for anyone who wants to step into the footsteps of adventurers of times long gone. Feel the wind blowing in your face and taste the salty ocean water on your lips while sailing along the most beautiful coastlines.

A sailboat charter in the Caribbean is a great choice for those who care about the environment. As sailboats are solely fueled by the wind, they don’t release additional CO2-emissions.

A sailboat hire in the Caribbean is one of the cheaper options available when it comes to a boat holiday in the Caribbean. You won’t have to worry about paying extra for fuel as the wind is your fuel and the price of a bareboat charter is often more affordable than those of other types of boats.

Cons of renting a sailboat in the Caribbean

One of the downsides of a sailboat hire in the Caribbean can be the fact that sailboats have a keel. You won’t be able to sail too close to the coast, which might mean that you won’t be able to discover all the beautiful beaches from up close. It could even be quite dangerous to do so.

Rent a motorboat in the Caribbean

Pros of renting a motorboat in the Caribbean

Cruising the Caribbean in a motor yacht is a great choice for those who want to explore all the beautiful remote beaches this region has to offer. Most famous for its white sandy beaches surrounded by crystal clear turquoise waters it is a truly magical place on earth to be. Motorboats generally have a shallow draft which allows them to sail closer to the shore.

A motorboat charter in the Caribbean is a fantastic option for anyone who wants to drive quickly from one place to another. Motorboats or motoryachts are generally faster than other types of boats you can rent for a longer period of time and allow you to see a lot more places in a shorter amount of time.

Another great thing about a motorboat rental in the Caribbean is the fact that they are easier to operate than other types of boats. You don’t need to bring the same skills and knowledge as you would need to operate a sailboat.

Cons of renting a motorboat in the Caribbean

One of the downsides of a motorboat charter in the Caribbean is the fact that they are solely fueled by petrol. This makes them more expensive than other types of boats. Sometimes you might even have to pay extra for the fuel you’re using on your boat holiday in the Caribbean .

A luxury yacht charter in the Caribbean

Charter a private luxury yacht in the Caribbean to experience the glitzy and glamorous life of the rich and famous. Most of these luxurious boats are equipped with a full kitchen and appliances to ensure that you can store and prepare all your food on board. Initiating your Caribbean yacht charter adventure with finesse is pivotal, as the Caribbean unfolds its myriad charms from an array of starting locations. Nassau, Bahamas: As the Bahamas' lively capital, Nassau seamlessly combines tropical allure with colonial grandeur. The city boasts an engaging urban landscape and sun-kissed delights at Cable Beach. This bustling hub is a prime starting point for your Caribbean yacht charter, and the Ibiza Bahama Beach Club is a must-visit to experience the Caribbean's famed nightlife.

Fort-de-France, Martinique: The capital of Martinique, Fort-de-France is a cultural treasure, reflecting the island's French heritage and dynamic Creole influences. Nestled amidst lush rainforests, this city offers a perfect launch pad for your Caribbean yacht charter. Whether you're drawn to the spirited ambiance of the Bahamas or the rich cultural tapestry of Martinique, your Caribbean voyage guarantees boundless exploration and the discovery of treasures aplenty.

How long should I rent a yacht in the Caribbean?

When it comes to renting a yacht in the Caribbean , the duration of your charter depends on your preferences and plans. Many charter companies in the Caribbean prefer weekly bookings, making it a popular choice. This allows you to explore the region extensively and discover various islands, all while enjoying a more cost-effective option. However, if you're seeking shorter adventures, you can opt for daily boat rentals, perfect for day trips and island-hopping escapades. These are particularly suitable for smaller vessels like speedboats and RIBs, which may lack overnight amenities, offering an opportunity for spontaneous exploration. Your boat rental duration can be tailored to your ideal Caribbean experience , be it a week-long odyssey or a shorter, action-packed adventure.

Rent a yacht in the Caribbean for a week

Renting a yacht in the Caribbean for a week is the ideal way to immerse yourself in the region's enchanting beauty. With seven days at your disposal, you can explore a variety of stunning islands, pristine beaches, and vibrant cultures, creating unforgettable memories with family and friends. A week allows you to embrace leisurely island-hopping, indulging in water sports, or simply unwinding on deck, all while enjoying the luxury and comfort of your chosen yacht. Whether you aim to uncover the British Virgin Islands' secluded coves, savor the exotic flavors of the Bahamas, or experience the charm of St. Martin, a week-long Caribbean yacht charter ensures you make the most of this tropical paradise, creating cherished moments that last a lifetime.

Sailing routes in the Caribbean

There are several possible routes for your island-hopping holiday in the Caribbean . Some sailors prefer to stick to their favorite locales, getting to know the waters and shores of certain island clusters. Others may prefer to discover new destinations and practice sailing in different conditions. Choose from a relaxed retreat on a luxury yacht or an island-hopping adventure with friends. For those looking for the best nightlife, check out our list of the best party islands in the Caribbean.

A boat rental in the British Virgin Islands is popular with beginner sailors because of the ideal steady currents and wind speed. More experienced seafarers may enjoy sailing the Windward Islands. These take you from Martinique to Saint Lucia and on to Saint Vincent and Grenada.

Either way, choosing one base as a starting point is a good idea, and it allows you to begin planning how to fit in scuba diving and beach time between seeing all the varied sights on your trip. Major marinas that also offer anchorages include Fort-de-France on Martinique and Rodney Bay on St Lucia . Many land-dwelling travelers visit the Caribbean to relax at its pristine beaches, and boat rental gives you the opportunity to see many more of them than the average visitor.

One of the most popular sailing routes in the BVI begins in Tortola and takes you to some of the Caribbean’s best beaches and incredible natural reserves.

Caribbean Yacht Charter Reviews with 12knots

Oscar Serra

“We tried to make the most of it, but it was far from ideal”

Hey Grigory, thanks for asking. The boat was not in good condition. For example, there were no mooring, deck or motoring lights, so we feared a boat would hit us while we slept, and were not complying with the law while sailing at night. The anchor w…

Very positive experience with 12 knots. Even when we had an issued regarding the boat Helene and her team were very helpful in getting to a resolution working with the base manager. Would definitely use 12 knots again. Thanks Helene in particular.

“We had a great time in Greece”

We had a great time in Greece, the first three days we had constant 20-25knots of wind, so we were able to do a lot of sailing. The boat was also in good condition and everything in working order…the boat did however look a bit older than a 2018 mode…

“Everything went flawlessly”

Everything was very well handled by 12 knots with communications with the local company in BVI taking place flawlessly. We had a great charter and would certainly recommend 12 knots for anyone considering a charter.

Sailing Around Windward and Leeward Islands of the Caribbean

The  Caribbean covers a huge region of widely spread islands 2,000 miles (3,218 km) long.

The larger ones have become sovereign countries with broad range of amenities for sailors, while the smaller ones still preserve its untouched rural charm and tranquility.

From the western tip of Cuba to the Leewards in the east, then south to the top of South America and along Venezuela’s north coast – this chain of islands has created a hook-like shape around the Caribbean Sea. Location like this is always an enticing bait for sailing - perfect climate and  array of diverse cultures, customs, cuisines and experiences, water sports and an unlimited number of other attractions.

Planning sailing vacations in Caribbean, you may wish to consider these groupings of the islands as points of your itinerary, as they contain many popular cruising areas and harbor stops. There is no doubt that in the scope of Caribbean bareboat or skippered yacht charters  both groups have their charms and countless reasons to explore, which definitely makes it a great sailing destination.

Caribbean yacht rentals

12 Knots offers eleven yacht charter bases in the Caribbean region, each with unique individual character, providing sailing experience for everyone, from a novice to an experienced sailor. This region comprises more than 700 hundred islands and islets, so you can choose Caribbean sailing vacations with shot and easy hops or more challenging passages.

Taking Caribbean sailing vacations, you will find warm and steady trade winds in picturesque surroundings; discover plenty of great bars and authentic cuisine!

It’s up to you, choosing between the Leeward Caribbean islands with short and easy hops with line-of-sight sailing and the Windward with more challenging open water passages. Wherever you go, you will return home relaxed, refreshed and ready to start planning your next Caribbean sailing adventure.

The Windward islands

Windward Islands located at the southern end of the Caribbean island chain and stretch for over 300 miles to the south-eastern end of the Caribbean Sea. The Windward Islands are simply called so due to their position as they are exposed to the northeast trade winds. For experienced sailors, it can be right choice to sail among the four main islands: Martinique, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and Grenada. They lay far apart each other allowing open ocean sailing and while steady easterly trade winds, make passages north or south easy. With constant 12 to 25 knots wind, Caribbean sailing is among best in the world. Night anchorages in peaceful and protected areas give sailors freedom to explore and soak up British and French island culture. The islands of St. Lucia, St. Vincent and Grenada  were British colonies until they gained independence during the 1970s. Martinique is still an overseas department of France.

The climate of the Windward Islands is definitely a marine one.

When tropical heat reaches its peak, steady trade winds and daily sea breezes come to rescue.

Typically, dry and wet seasons go hand in hand here. Although the priority of more rainfalls is given to the eastern side of the islands mainly due to the prevailing north-east trade winds there.

The islands east of Puerto Rico were called “Windward Islands” by the Spanish, while the islands south of Puerto Rico were named as “Leewards “. And Dominica positions itself right on the border line between the Windward and the Leeward Islands.

Long time ago some of the islands used to be French colonies, subsequently gained its name as The French Antilles.

The population of the Windward Islands is mostly of African origin, with some exceptions of Chinese and Caucasians. The present day Windward Islands will welcome tourists with upscale resorts, stunning beaches and pleasant sunny weather.

After cruising through the Windward Islands, you may wish to set sails to the Leeward Islands.

The Leeward islands

The Leeward islands are located on the eastern edge of the Caribbean Sea and form the northeastern boundary between Caribbean and Atlantic Ocean, extending from Puerto Rico to the Windward Islands, forming part of the Lesser Antilles chain.

Although 700 miles long stretch of these magnificent isles mostly constitute the whole body of the Leewards, it provides the abundance of enjoyment: quaint fishing spots, ancient ruins and delicious authentic cuisine.

Blessed with balmy temperatures all around the year, The Leeward Islands are called leeward because they're away from the wind or downwind (in the "lee"). Leeward group of Caribbean islands includes: the U.S. Virgin Islands, the British Virgin Islands, Anguilla, Saint Martin, Saint-Barthelemy, Saba, Sint Eustatius, Saint Kitts, Nevis, Barbuda, Antiqua, Redonda, Montserrat and Guadeloupe.

One of two "sister islands", St Kitts and Nevis, provides a brilliant Caribbean experience, from their picture-perfect beaches and volcanic mountains to friendly locals and layers of history to explore. For the water sport lovers, there are numerous aquatic activities that include fishing, diving, windsurfing and surfing.

St.Kitts and Nevis

Switch from sailing to inland for a change and St.Kitts and Nevis will deliver the most exceptional hiking in the Caribbean. The dormant volcano of Mount Liamuiga is considered to be the toughest to climb. And with the experienced guide you may even try to descend in its crater!

The unspoiled landscape of dry littoral forest and rainforest will present memorable show of fauna and flora. Many plants are of culinary and medical use, and some even used in black magic, as informative guides would point out its botanical value.

The wild life-lovers will not be disappointed with variety of different types of exotic animals.

Actually, the Great Salt Pond has become famous for its largest habitat of green velvet monkeys.

St. Kitts and Nevis will keep you captivated with majestic view of huge conical shells, remains of old sugar mills, along with some other plantation ruins, built in the 18 th century.

Back to water activities, and tourists will be pleased with what these two island can offer: deep-water fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving and more.

Then in order to satisfy your growing appetite visit two popular restaurants: Carambola and the Shipwreck Bar and Grill to enjoy its delicious local meals.

A yacht charter in the Caribbean Leeward Islands offers sailors an unrivalled remarkable experience. Enjoy tropical landscapes, pristine palm-lined beaches and azure waters — all the joys of marine life.

Sailing over the Leeward Islands may have all the pleasures to offer: the Tropical rainforests, glittering coral reefs, and luxury sand beaches. That’s probably why most of the known tourist resorts on these islands play a critical role in their economy, as do banking and fishing. Many of them also rely on their status as a tax haven to promote offshore financial services as a source of government revenue. But there is much more to discover in the Leeward Islands. These Caribbean islands provide great variety of yachts for charter and pleasant sailing vacations. Most of the Leeward Islands are located close to each other with moderate winds from 10 to 15 knots and rather low wavers. BVI is the most popular area for Caribbean charters either bareboat or luxury crewed vacations. This is the right place for the novice sailor’s easy passages in line-of-sight sailing.

The climate of the Caribbean Leeward Islands can be described as tropical, but much drier than in Windward Islands. Though the climate does vary from island to island and can even be different in different parts of the same island. Rainfall increases with elevation and in more southerly latitudes. In some cases trade winds look like refreshing tonic to the tropical heat. There is minor seasonal variation, although the second half of the year, the wet season, is slightly warmer and rainier. The best time for sailing in the Caribbean may be the first half of the year. At this time the temperatures usually range between 81°F (27°C) and 95°F(35°C). Annual rainfall averages about 40 to 50 inches (1016 to 1270 mm). Keep in mind, that nearly every island had been severely damaged by hurricane activity in its recent history.

English is the most widespread language all around the islands, plus many of the people speak French and Dutch on the St Martin Island. Both English-based and French-based Creole are also spoken. The prevailing currency is The East Caribbean dollar. But St Martin is odd man out again, circulating the Netherlands Antilles guilder in the Dutch area and the Euro in the French region. Nevertheless, the US dollar is widely accepted throughout the islands.

If you eager to take part in sporting activities, then you may be pleased to know that cricket is widely played and followed in the former British territories. Besides, as in the rest of the Caribbean, music is also always a big part of local life. Enjoy the magical sounds of calypso, soca, steelpan, reggae, salsa and jazz — all of the mentioned has their adherents.

During your Caribbean yacht charter, you may wish to participate in some major holiday celebrations, including the St Kitts Christmas, New Year carnaval, the annual music festival, as well as Anguilla’s Emancipation Day and Culturama festival on August 1st.

The culture of the Leeward Islands is varied by different influences, including French, Dutch and West Indian. Due to that sailing around the Leeward Islands provides a wonderful choice of cuisine and some great restaurants to satisfy your affection for the finest dishes. By the way, the island of Anguilla offers true gastronomic feasts. When sailing in the Caribbean Leeward Islands, be sure to try freshly caught lobsters with a glass of wine.

Sailing the Caribbean With 12 Knots

So, while planning a Caribbean charter it is highly recommended to decide on how many islands you would like to visit in a given time frame. Research Caribbean boat rentals and determine which island you would like to have as a starting base. Then you can plan an itinerary for the week or ten days, taking into consideration distances between the islands and activities you would like to have, like island tracking, scuba diving, snorkeling, volcano hiking, or even shopping.

12 Knots team will give you plenty of useful information not only on the bareboat charter in Caribbean, but also itineraries, places of interest and peculiarities of each island.

Taking a yacht charter in the Caribbean is just a perfect combination of sailing and relaxation, authentic culture and a range of water sport activities. In a few words, this area may always offer something for everyone in these amazing islands’ surrounding.

It's nice. But can you really get a five-star, private experience on the just-launched 'Icon of the Seas,' with 7,000 other passengers? The results were mixed.

By contrast, the Empire accommodates just three dozen guests each evening, in a single two-and-a-half-hour seating, placing diners in the voyage’s top 0.5 percent. The dinner and show are a $200-per-person upsell. Even for occupants of Royal’s new over-the-top Star Class suites—which can rent for up to $100,000 a week—a reservation at the Empire is not among the panoply of carte-blanche “inclusions.” When we walked up to the front door, the maitre d’ already knew our faces and names.

“It’s not really a restaurant. It’s an experience,” says Jay Schneider, chief product innovation officer at Royal Caribbean, as he tours us around the ship during our three-night preview sail before its maiden voyage. “It’s something that people have to want to do.”

Icon of the Seas

The supper club is one of many Royal “revolutions”—endeavors new to the brand that have been included onboard—that Schneider points out as we wander the ship’s 20 quarter-mile-long decks. Backed by consumer research, these upgrades are intended to elevate the onboard experience. The hope is to draw in elite guests from smaller boutique cruises, superyacht charters, or other trendy private vacation options to spend six-figures for seven nights onboard, while thousands in other “neighborhoods” have budget rooms that rent in the low four-figures.

In a long career covering travel and transportation, I’ve stayed in all manner of high-end resorts. But I’ve never done a cruise before and wanted to see how it compares to other five-star experiences, especially on a vessel as vast and multifaceted as Icon . Could it really deliver the exclusivity and intimacy of a small private island or superyacht charter, with 7,000 other souls aboard?

Icon of the Seas Royal Caribbean Surfside and The Grove

Certainly, Schneider’s team is aiming for that goal. His list of “small wows” include a walk-up Champagne bar in the lush Central Park, a doubling of the budget for custom artworks, a grab-and-go sushi window at the Izumi teppanyaki restaurant, and a sizable increase in spa offerings and amenities.

Then there are the “big wows.” Foremost among these is the Suite neighborhood on the ship’s uppermost decks. Here, in the Grove, a private bar, pool, café, sun deck, lounge, and two-story restaurant are available only to those in premium residences. “The intent was to go even further with this concept than we ever have before and really have a dedicated space for Suite guests,” Schneider says.

The aesthetic up here differs greatly from the ersatz “Island Time” driftwood and pastels of other neighborhoods, such as the family-friendly Surfside and the waterpark-like Chill Island. In the Grove, teak-colored, metal-ribbed decking, neutral boucle cushions, glazed forest-green mosaic tiles, and fabric-covered pergolas all come together to signal its heightened taste.

Royal Caribbean Icon of the Seas cruiseship

This reveals a core challenge for Royal, a company that prides itself, as Schneider says, on being an accessible, “E-for-Everyone company.” Can it really be all things to all people? If so, how can it elevate the experience for a select class of guests while remaining true to its egalitarian mission?

This is further complicated by one of Royal’s fundamental design goals with the Icon class of ships, which is enhancing the readily navigable connections between areas. “One of the things that we’ve been focused on is making sure that the flow of this ship, more than ever, is open, inviting, and easy to access for everyone,” Schneider says. This means ensuring guests can walk between decks and neighborhoods and major attractions without running into dead ends or having to double-back to the central elevators.

Royal Caribbean Icon of the Seas the Loft Suite.

The Suite neighborhood, comprising just 7 percent of the rooms aboard Icon, is separated. It sits among the ship’s highest levels. Smoked sliding-glass doors prevent access to its amenities unless your key card registers you as a resident. (We were also given access to the Suites and provided a Genie during our stay.) And the area overlooks, but doesn’t connect directly to, other popular locales, dramatically reducing foot traffic. “We’ve gone to great lengths to essentially remove this area from the flow of the ship,” Schneider says. “So much so that the average guest wouldn’t know it’s even here.”

Occupancy on our preview sailing was around 70 percent of capacity, or nearly 5,000 guests. Despite all the people, the Grove felt separate and tranquil, with only a smattering of guests, uninterrupted views of the ocean, wait-less and higher-quality food, less boisterous background music, and pleasant glimpses down into the ship’s hubbub.

Royal Caribbean Icon at Sea Loft Suites

When we docked for an excursion on the company’s synthetic island fun park, Coco Cay, a similar exclusive vibe persisted at its Coco Beach Club, another new, Suite-level “inclusion” (or $250 per person upsell.) It featured its own private pool, beach, restaurant, and over-water cabanas, all done up in a refined, Fiji-lite style. It wasn’t Caneel Bay in its heyday, but it certainly outclassed the nearby Hideaway Beach, with its throbbing dance music, DJ, swim-up bars, and brightly colored chaises.

Back at the Empire Supper Club, a chanteuse in a gold-sequined dress sang a series of New York-themed songs. The Moët flowed. The caviar, langoustines, filet, and branzino were served. The fresh nutmeg was grated atop the final craft cocktail pairing, a take on an espresso martini. Service from the gray tuxedoed waiters was attentive but not obsequious; the platings were creative and replete with “small wows;” and many of the dishes tasted fresh and carefully created. The ambiance felt genuine. Overall, the experience felt personalized and unhurried, perhaps the greatest luxury of all.

By the end of the cruise, I still wondered: Are these white-glove details enough to draw in high-end consumers?

Royal Caribbean Coco Cay

“Large cruise ships have always provided separate classes, but exclusive enclaves are more recent. And for those who like large vessels, and all the variety and space they deliver, it’s a great product,” says Milton Pedraza, founder and CEO of the Luxury Institute, a research and consulting practice.

Royal Caribbean Icon of the Seas. Standup Comedy

My final opinion? Mixed. The overall experience is not exactly five-star—maybe more like four-and-change—and I’m not sure I’d attend another cruise. To be honest, we dislike crowds and prefer our travel and destinations to be more authentic. The artificial environments felt a bit like Disney World at sea. The Grove experience was certainly far more refined than I’d expected, and the efforts at upscaling and personalization were notable, and noticeable, throughout. But we couldn’t shake the fact that we were on a cruise ship with 5,000 other guests.

But, as Pedraza notes, there is an elite traveler who enjoys such opportunities. For its target ultrahigh-net-worth consumers, Royal’s strategies appear to be working. According to Schneider, sales on Icon are strong across the board, but the Suites have shown particular appeal. “I wouldn’t say [they’ve sold] more, because everything’s booked up,” he says. “I would say [they] sold first.”

10 Things To Do In St. Barts: Complete Guide To This Luxury Caribbean Island

W hen flying into St. Barts, travelers can’t help but marvel at the beautiful blue water decorated with big white yachts and the dozens of villas with little red roofs. A French-speaking Caribbean island, St. Barts (also known as St. Barths, Saint Barths, or Saint Barthélemy) is known for its calm waters, high-end shops, luxury hotels, and fabulous upscale restaurants. Often frequented by the rich and famous, there are simply so many things to do in St. Barts.

While St. Bart’s isn’t one of the cheapest Caribbean islands to fly to , it’s certainly one of the most beautiful. It’s small, less than 10 square miles, but it packs a lot of punch. Tourists can swim, snorkel or sunbathe on the beautiful beaches, hike to hidden tide pools, visit ruins and museums, and stroll through the streets of the capital, Gustavia. St. Barts is one of many Caribbean destinations said to be the hottest of 2023 . Here is our complete travel guide and list of things to see and do in St. Barts.

UPDATE: 2023/05/29 10:13 EST BY LANE VASQUEZ

More Things To Do And See In St. Barths

There's always been plenty to do in St. Barts, but this guide includes more things to do on any trip to this luxurious Caribbean island (plus travel tips to make the most of the vacation).

Top Things To Do in St. Barts

There are so many fun things to do and beautiful things to see in St. Barths.

Spend The Day At The Beach

The main attraction in St. Barts is the beaches. And there are so many to choose from! Just to name a few— Saline Beach is perfect for travelers looking for peace and quiet. Set away from the bars and restaurants, this spot is one of the island’s marquee beaches.

  • Shell Beach is self-descriptive. It's covered in shells of different sizes and colors. While it is gorgeous to look at, Shell Beach can be painful to walk on, so beach shoes are recommended.
  • St. Jean Beach is popular and lively. This beach is home to Nikki Beach and Eden Rock – St Barths. St. Jean Beach is perfect for travelers who like a party atmosphere; this is where the action is!
  • Gouverneur Beach is great for privacy and perfect for picnics. The white sand is pristine, and there's excellent snorkeling by the rocks.

Visit Hidden Natural Tide Pools: Petit Cul-de-Sac

From the Petit Cul-de-Sac Beach, travelers can hike to natural tide pools. Located on the eastern end of the island, the beach is quiet, and the water is calm (perfect for snorkeling).

  • There are no beachside restaurants , so either before or after the hike to the tide pools, plan a picnic on the beach and enjoy the bay view.

To reach the tide pools, walk down the beach to the right-hand side and start scaling the rocks. The rocks offer very uneven terrain; this hike is not easy. It usually takes about 30 to 40 minutes. But it's worth it to find the hidden natural tide pools.

This is a must-see attraction, as any photos online truly will not do it justice. The colors are mesmerizing.

Trek To Grand Fond Natural Pools

Another natural tide pool, Grand Fond Natural Pools, is a little easier to get to. It does require a short hike and a steep slope, but it’s also well worth it. The path to the Grand Fond Natural Pools starts near the parking lot by Grand Fond Beach.

When stepping onto the beach, head toward the cliffs on the right. Find the path, which will circumnavigate the cliffs.

  • The trek takes roughly 20 to 30 minutes, and the views of the water below are spectacular.

When the natural pools come into sight, descend a steep rocky slope to reach the destination, Grand Fond Natural Pools.

Hit The Trails: Columbier Hike

The Columbier hike is a popular one! It ends at a private beach that’s only accessible by foot or by yacht. There are two ways to hike to Columbier Beach. The Upper Trail is steep and takes about 25 minutes to complete and offers breathtaking views.

The Lower Trail is easier, but hikers miss the dramatic scenery. Whatever route is chosen, the walk is beautiful.

Wear comfortable hiking shoes and pack not just hiking gear, but beachgoing gear as well.

Decompress On Colombier Beach

While the Columbier hike is an attraction all its own, so is spending the day on Colombier Beach. Travelers can easily spend the entire day swimming, surfing, and picnicking before hiking back.

The water is gorgeous and clear, and beachgoers can watch boats pass by or hop into the water.

Snorkeling is a highlight hear thanks to all the ocean life; be prepared to snorkel!

Explore The Ruins Of Fort Karl

One of the most popular things to do in St. Barts, Fort Karl is located on a small hill overlooking Shell Beach. Built in 1789 to protect the town from external attacks, the fort fell into oblivion during the 19th century. In 2007, the Natural Reserve of Saint Barthelemy took over the site, and it's now officially protected.

There is not much left of the fort, but the views from Fort Karl that look out over Gustavia and the harbor are the highlight.

Take In The Gustavia Lighthouse

The Lighthouse is near Fort Karl and a worthwhile pit stop of its own. The Lighthouse was built in 1961 and is still operating today, and the views from the lighthouse are breathtaking (a directory on-site shows visitors which islands are which). The Lighthouse proves that some of the best things to do on St. Barths involve the gorgeous vistas!

  • Some visitors claim the views are better from Gustavia Lighthouse than those from Fort Karl.

Travelers will need to drive to Gustavia Lighthouse, but the walk from the street (where visitors can park) is short.

Experience The Wall House Museum

This small stone building is home to a collection of artifacts revealing facts about St. Bart’s history. The building itself is historic too, dating back to the Swedish period (1785-1878). Expect to find farming tools, furniture, oil lamps, fishing boats, a library, and a brick-made bread oven.

Located in Gustavia, the Wall House Museum doesn’t take too long to explore (less than an hour), but it does provide visitors with a pretty cool peek into St. Bart’s past.

  • Hours: Monday through Friday, 9:30 AM to 1 PM and 3 PM to 7 PM; Wednesdays, 2 PM to 7 PM; Saturday, 9:30 AM to 1 PM; Sunday, closed.
  • Cost: Free!

Stroll Through The Capital Of St. Barts: Gustavia

Stroll the beautiful streets of St. Barts' capital, Gustavia. Pop in and out of art galleries and designer shops, like Cartier, Louis Vuitton, Hermes, and Gaultier. There are also quite a few spots to grab beachwear and accessories. The streets are colorful, with lots of palm trees and potted plants. And nobody’s in a rush.

When it's time to give those legs a break, pop into one of St. Barts' many fine eateries. Enjoy a delicious meal and a glass of bubbly at a waterside café while keeping an eye out for famous faces.

Watch The Sunset In St. Barts

St. Barts has so many stunning spots to watch the sunset, but perhaps the best vantage point is from Hotel Christopher . Whether travelers are hotel guests or not, the bar is open. Grab a cocktail and watch the sun slip out of sight.

The drink menu is designed by Haydee Otero, an artist from Nice, and features eight signature cocktails inspired by eight magical cities. A sunset nightcap at Hotel Christopher is the perfect way to celebrate the end of a fantastic day in St. Barts.

Best Time To Go To St. Barts

With warm tropical weather year-round (low-70s to low-90s), there’s no wrong time to go to St. Barts. But, depending on the type of vacation tourists are looking for, there are a few factors to consider.

November through January is peak tourist season, which means higher prices on flights and accommodations. Prices jump again in March and April due to spring break, Easter, and St. Barts Bucket Regatta. May and June are still lively, but prices tend to drop slightly.

It’s also important to note that November through April is the drier season, and the temperatures are mild. Hurricane season starts in June and runs through November. For tourists not worried about an occasional storm, this is a great time to see a less crowded and more affordable St. Barts.

To sum it up, St. Barts is one of the many islands offering a sunny escape to explore the Caribbean , no matter what time of year.

Best Ways To Get Around St. Barts

Renting a car in St. Barts is the best way to get around. It’s easy to navigate the small island; travelers can circle St. Barts in about an hour. Since there’s no public transportation system in St. Barts, alternatives to a car are motorbikes and bicycles.

Taxis are also available but are not easy to come by and can be very expensive.

Where To Eat In St. Barts

Dine out in St. Barts and enjoy great dishes with amazing views.

Maya’s philosophy is freshness. Bread is baked overnight, the juice is squeezed every morning, and the menu changes based on which fresh fish was caught that day. Perfect to dine in or take to go, Maya’s is a delicious breakfast option in St. Barts.

  • Address: Les Galeries du Commerce, St. Jean, Saint Barthelemy
  • Hours: Tuesday through Sunday, 7 AM to 7 PM. Monday, closed.
  • Recommended: the delicious pastries are a perfect breakfast to devour on the beach.

Nikki Beach Club

Perfect for a weekend brunch, this popular spot is located on Saint-Jean Beach and is a famous beach club with a festive, glamorous atmosphere and delicious food. Often frequented by celebrities, Nikki Beach offers fresh Caribbean dishes, uninterrupted ocean views, and fun music, which gets more up-tempo as the day goes on.

  • Address: W537+2WQ, Gustavia 97133, St. Barthélemy
  • Hours: Daily, 11 AM to 7 PM
  • Recommended: Sushi and a Peach Spritz

Featuring French-Mediterranean cuisine, Amis is a gourmet restaurant on the water that’s perfect for a celebration. Chic and modern, customers are sure to enjoy a long and delicious leisurely dinner.

  • Address: Baie de Grand Cul de Sac 97133, Saint-Barthélemy
  • Hours: Daily, 7 AM to 11 PM
  • Recommended: ceviche, braised cod, and homemade ice creams and sorbets.

Traveling during peak season? If so, make a reservation. Restaurants are busy, so plan ahead.

Marriott International Announces Robust Growth Across the Caribbean and Latin America in 2023

The region continued meaningful expansion across all segments from midscale to all-inclusive, and residential to luxury; conversions remained a main driver of growth..

Rendering JW Marriott at MARAEY (Brazil)

Following its recent announcement of strong global net rooms growth and a record year of global rooms signings, Marriott International today announced a year of robust room signings and additions across the Caribbean and Latin America (CALA) in 2023. The company nearly doubled its number of organic deal signings in the region versus prior year, signing 57 transactions and nearly 7,300 rooms in 2023 to reach a solid pipeline of 24,000 rooms across the region at the end of last year.

In 2023, the company added over 170 properties to Marriott’s portfolio in CALA, growing its footprint to nearly 500 properties, including hotels and residences, and nearly 87,000 rooms across 37 countries and territories, making Marriott the largest hotel company in the region based on open rooms and pipeline.

At year-end, Marriott’s hotel pipeline in CALA stood at 155 properties and 24,000 rooms, which will further enhance the company’s leadership position in the luxury segment across the region, unveil new offerings in the affordable midscale segment, and increase its offering of all-inclusive properties.

“We are pleased to report a great year of growth for Marriott in the CALA region, with strong development activity in 2023. With continuing momentum in conversions, and our ongoing expansion across numerous segments, including luxury and all-inclusive, we remain focused on providing our guests and owners with more best-in-class options” said Laurent de Kousemaeker, Chief Development Officer for Marriott International in the Caribbean and Latin America. “We see exceptional opportunities in the region across all segments, but particularly in midscale with the new City Express by Marriott brand, opening up fresh possibilities in this segment throughout the region.”

City Express by Marriott In 2023, the company strategically positioned CALA as the launchpad for the company’s entry into the high-growth affordable midscale segment with the acquisition of the City Express brand portfolio. With 150 properties and approximately 17,500 rooms across Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia, and Chile, the deal increased Marriott’s footprint in the region by approximately 45 percent. In 2024, the City Express by Marriott brand is expected to further expand with new properties across the region.

Luxury Growth in the Region With 60 properties across six of the seven global luxury brands of the company, Marriott remains a leading option for luxury travelers in the region, offering a broad portfolio of options from pristine beaches to city escapes. Opening highlights in 2023 included the debut of The Riviera Maya EDITION at Kanai (Mexico) in November 2023, and The St. Regis Kanai Resort (Mexico) earlier in the year. Anticipated luxury openings in 2024 include the JW Marriott Sint Maarten Beach Resort (Sint Marteen), Almare, a Luxury Collection All-inclusive Resort Isla Mujeres (Mexico), Nekajui, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, Papagayo (Costa Rica), The St. Regis Aruba (Aruba), W Punta Cana, All-Inclusive , The St. Regis Cap Cana Resort (Dominican Republic), and W Sao Paulo (Brazil). The region holds a luxury pipeline of 34 properties and over 5,000 rooms.

Accelerating Momentum in Conversions Hotel conversions continue to have momentum in the CALA. Nearly 35 percent of Marriott’s rooms signings in the region in 2023 were conversions, including the recently announced Villa Lapas, Autograph Collection (Costa Rica), Aloft Guadalajara Country Club, Sheraton Guadalajara Expo and Delta Hotels Puebla (Mexico), and Las Terrenas, Autograph Collection (Dominican Republic). Hoteliers and investors are leveraging the efficiencies and advantages of renovating and rebranding existing properties throughout the region, further expanding the breadth of Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio of more than 30 global leading brands.

All-Inclusive by Marriott Bonvoy Marriott’s all-inclusive resort portfolio in the region continues to meet consumer demand. With 31 open all-inclusive properties in CALA located across nine markets (Mexico - Riviera Nayarit & Cancun, Jamaica, Barbados, Antigua & Barbuda, St Lucia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Grenada and Brazil) and four brands (Autograph Collection, Delta, Westin, and Luxury Collection), and 18 additional properties in the signed pipeline, the company is providing guests more all-inclusive offerings than ever before. The company recently signed the second Ritz-Carlton All-Inclusive property in the region to be located on the shores of Yanuna, Dominican Republic, along with a Luxury Collection All-Inclusive Resort to bring unparalleled luxury to the Dominican Republic.

Expected all-inclusive openings for 2024 in the region include Almare, a Luxury Collection All-inclusive Resort Isla Mujeres (Mexico), W Punta Cana, All-Inclusive (Dominican Republic), and the rebranding of several Elegant Hotels properties ( Treasure Beach, The House, and Waves ) into the Autograph Collection brand in Barbados, which will bring Marriott’s global all-inclusive roster to 49 open and pipeline properties across 12 markets and 10 brands. Six of the pipeline properties are slated to open in 2024.

Branded Residences Portfolio The popularity of branded residences in CALA is experiencing a surge of customer demand. Marriott currently offers 15 open locations in 11 markets across the region. Anticipated residential openings in 2024 include The Residences at The St. Regis Kanai Resort (Mexico), Nekajui, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve Residence, Papagayo (Costa Rica), The Residences at The St. Regis Cap Cana Resort (Dominican Republic), and the W Residences Sao Paulo (Brazil). Globally, the company has a pipeline of 115 residential projects.

Marriott Bonvoy Marriott Bonvoy, the company’s award-winning travel program, boasts a thriving community of over 6 million members in CALA and keeps growing to offer an even more enriching travel experience for its members, with new strategic partnerships, and increased ways to earn and accumulate points across the region. Announced in May 2023, the company entered a strategic collaboration with Rappi, the multilatina technology company, further enhancing the unparalleled advantages for its members and enabling the company to connect with Rappi's more than 20 million users across Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, and Uruguay.

As Marriott continues to expand its footprint and offerings in CALA, the region is uniquely positioned to capitalize on the breadth and depth of its portfolio, with an array of growth and development opportunities.

The 6 best cheap caribbean all-inclusive resorts for 2024.

Plan an affordable beach getaway at these top resorts.

Cheap Caribbean All-Inclusive Resorts

All-inclusive resorts are a much-loved option for low-stress Caribbean vacations. With accommodations, food and some activities all rolled into one price, these resorts can take away much of the hassle of planning a relaxing trip someplace warm and tropical. As vacation prices continue to rise, it's getting harder to lock down a cheap all-inclusive stay – but it's certainly not impossible. Beachy hot spots like Curaçao or St. Lucia may be out of budget, but destinations like Mexico and the Dominican Republic don't need to break the bank (just don't expect five-star luxury at these prices).

We've compiled a list of affordable all-inclusive resorts where two guests can stay in one room for approximately $225 or less per night. These prices may not be offered year-round, especially during the peak season for sun destinations of December to April. However, if you book well in advance, the cheaper rates should be offered across a broader range of dates. The prices here do not include flights, although the resorts below may offer packages that include them.

Whether you're looking for a romantic couples trip or just some quality time with the family, these resorts can deliver without breaking the bank.

  • Occidental Costa Cancún
  • Iberostar Dominicana
  • BlueBay Villas Doradas
  • El Cozumeleño Beach Resort
  • Bahia Principe Grand El Portillo
  • Caribe Deluxe Princess

Occidental Costa Cancún: Cancún, Mexico

Orange kayak with paddles inside on a Caribbean beach with turquoise water.

Sitting at the north end of Cancún's ultra-popular Hotel Zone overlooking the Caribbean Sea is this 358-room property, where a room for two with a king bed starts at $210. The best prices are in the off-season or at the tail-end of the peak season, but some more popular dates go for as low as $240. The Occidental Costa Cancún is a great place for water sports, with kayaking, windsurfing, sailing and snorkeling all on the menu.

Past guests have noted that it's a particularly family-friendly resort and not an adult party spot. Fittingly, kids of all ages are looked after with child care, two water parks (though one has an entry fee) and an alcohol-free nightclub for teens. It's also easy to get out and explore, with buses to downtown Cancún for shopping as well as easy booking of excursions to Mayan pyramids (not part of the all-inclusive). Dining choices range from buffets to upscale Mexican and Italian food, with service offered all throughout the day.

Iberostar Dominicana: Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

Golf ball on a tea with an ocean in the far background.

Situated in the Dominican Republic's resort hot spot of Punta Cana and billed as a five-star property, Iberostar Dominicana is surprisingly affordable. Rooms for two go for as little as $200 per night, although prices jump in the busiest time of the year from January to March. Even at the cheapest rates, you'll get free Wi-Fi and a private balcony. You can lounge by lagoon-style pools or on palapa-shaded beach chairs. Vacationers can take advantage of 18 holes of golf on-site, a spa and a coral lab that teaches about local ecosystems.

Recent guests have gushed about the entertainment program at Iberostar, a draw for anyone into music or dancing. Some also noted that the resort is great at catering to any dietary restrictions. Plus, Iberostar has introduced sustainability initiatives such as eliminating single-use plastics, committing to responsible fishing and pledging to make its resorts waste-free by 2025.

BlueBay Villas Doradas: Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

Child sitting on the edge of a swimming pool and splashing her feet in the water.

Located just east of the beach town of Puerto Plata , this adults-only all-inclusive resort is a cheap option for a romantic escape without the kids. With advance booking, couples can stay at BlueBay Villas Doradas for as low as $200 per night for two guests. The bright, air-conditioned standard rooms measure a respectable 260 square feet. Beyond those four walls, you can hit the sands of Playa Dorada or lounge by the three outdoor pools.

The four restaurants run the gamut from Chinese cuisine to seafood. Active travelers at this resort may enjoy water sports, tennis, the on-site fitness center or nearby golf courses. Take note that extra fees are a little more prominent here: While it's standard for all-inclusives not to cover activities like diving and spa services, BlueBay Villas Doradas also charges for Wi-FI in the lower-tier rooms. That said, past travelers still praise the resort for its large beach, with plenty of chairs available there and at the pool; the service is also a strength, according to guests.

El Cozumeleño Beach Resort: San Miguel de Cozumel, Mexico

Woman snorkeling in the clear waters off the island of Cozumel in Mexico.

For a budget-friendly way to enjoy the white sands of Cozumel – an island in the Caribbean Sea just off the coast of Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula – El Cozumeleño balances affordability and quality. Choose between rooms facing the garden or sea; all of them have terraces or balconies. Per-night costs for an all-inclusive stay for two go as low as $220 or even less at some points if you book sufficiently in advance.

Out in the resort, the all-inclusive rates cover free scuba diving lessons and snorkeling, as well as sports like tennis, kayaking, cycling and more. For those looking to just chill out, there are five outdoor pools, one indoor pool and a swim-up bar, as well as hot tubs and beach access. Dining options range from the upscale Veranda restaurant to beachy snack bars to room service. Music and theater lounges provide nightly entertainment. Recent guests describe El Cozumeleño as a great place to relax that's not too crowded, as it doesn't tend to cater to a party crowd.

Tips on Trips and Expert Picks

Travel tips, vacation ideas and more to make your next vacation stellar.

Bahia Principe Grand El Portillo: Las Terrenas, Dominican Republic

People walking along a beach with palm trees at sunset.

This grand resort near the fishing village of Las Terrenas is packed with activities. Enjoy a free scuba diving lesson in the pool, tennis facilities, kayak rentals, kids and teen clubs, and a children's water park. The price for all these amenities can drop even as low as $160 per couple per night in the least busy months, with some affordable dates in the shoulder seasons (early December and April) to boot. The colorful rooms feature king beds and hydromassage bathtubs to help you relax after a long day.

Previous travelers raved about the gorgeous palm-fringed beach with coral and clear waters, also mentioning a mix of crowded and quieter swimming pools on the resort premises. You'll find a broad range of food on offer in the restaurants at Bahia Principe Grand El Portillo, with French, Mediterranean, Italian and Brazilian cuisines represented. There's also an array of pool and beach bars, plus a sports bar for those who can't miss a game.

Caribe Deluxe Princess: Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

A margarita cocktail drink on a bar table.

This resort about 15 miles outside of Punta Cana boasts funky rooms with modern tropical decor, balconies, king or queen beds, and free minibars. The options for drinking and dining at Caribe Deluxe Princess include seven restaurants with cuisine ranging from Tex-Mex to Dominican to teppanyaki – plus another two upscale restaurants that aren't covered by the all-inclusive rates. The resort has nine all-inclusive bars as well, including options at the beach, pool and rooftop.

Past visitors have admired the stunning tropical grounds of the resort and its beach. Kids and teens have their own activities; adults will be occupied by nonmotorized water sports, a sports area with archery and more, and evening entertainment. Prices at this resort can go as low as $225 or less per night for two, primarily in the shoulder and off-peak seasons. Stays in the middle of the busy season are notably more expensive.
