New 60m Amels yacht with Hybrid technology under construction

[dropcap]D[/dropcap]utch shipyard AMELS has introduced the AMELS 60, the brand new Espen Øino design in the Limited Editions range, a succesfull premium semi-custom production which counts more than 40 yachts delivered since 2007. The 60-metre superyacht, with Hybrid by AMELS technology, is now under construction and available for spring 2022 delivery. Among its main features, there are a hige sundeck, a swim platform and folding owners suite balcony. The generous interior volume of 830 GT, light and airy, include signature large main deck windows. The 9-metre luxury tender is stowed on foredeck.

“The AMELS 60 is an exciting new take on the very best AMELS knowhow and craftsmanship that has shaped everything we have done for more than 100 years,” says Rose Damen , Managing Director of the Damen Shipyards’ Yachting division. “Just like the global fleet of Limited Editions yachts at sea today, the AMELS 60 will be a beacon of trusted reliability, quality and comfort for decades to come.”

The AMELS 60 is the builder’s second collaboration with Espen Øino , following the 78-metre AMELS Full Custom also under construction for delivery in 2021.

Espen comments:

“The AMELS 60 is a package that no-one else can offer at this time. It’s a very well thought-through design where we incorporate all the experience AMELS has as a builder and we as designers. I think it is truly a design that reflects the future. I can’t wait to see her being built, to experience her. She will be instantly recognisable when she hits the water in 2022.”

AMELS naval architects, in collaboration with parent company Damen Shipyards’ in-house Research Laboratory, developed the AMELS 60’s all-new hull form. The new naval architecture provides the optimum combination of full displacement comfort with fuel efficiency.

“As a naval architect and as a yacht designer I like how the AMELS 60 optimises the waterline lengths which increases the length to beam ratio,” Espen continues. “It is the right way to go. This is a very efficient hull form, which in combination with the hybrid propulsion, makes the AMELS 60 quite unique in this size and range of vessels.”

With Hybrid by AMELS technology, the AMELS 60 offers cruising up to 7 knots with electrical propulsion motors. The system works with multiple sources of energy working together seamlessly throughout a wide operating profile. The owner benefits from very low noise and vibrations, lower fuel and maintenance costs, while reducing harmful emissions.

“The AMELS 60 has a future-proof hybrid package that our clients can rely on,” Rose explains. “No full displacement superyacht of this size can match the AMELS 60’s comfort, quality and efficiency in such a cost-effective design. We developed pragmatic technology that works invisibly in the background to deliver maximum efficiency, minimum impact on our environment, with the widest operating flexibility.”

AMELS invited the team at Studio Indigo to create a design concept for the AMELS 60 interiors. Founded in 2005 by Creative Director Mike Fisher, the London-based studio specialises in architecture, interior design and yachts. They bring over 15 years of design experience within luxury super-prime land-based projects, both in the UK and internationally.

Comprising a skilled team of 50 designers and architects, Studio Indigo brings a fresh new approach to the yachting industry and has recently captured the market’s attention with their award-winning innovation – including two World Superyacht Awards.

“We refined the GA to make the space as ergonomically efficient as possible, generating a layout that seeks to maximise the perception of space and flow,” Mike Fisher explains. “This was achieved by opening up the views and vistas between spaces to make them feel bigger, lighter and brighter. The interiors are chic and contemporary, using a rich variety of fabrics and textures throughout, allowing the guests onboard to experience different atmospheres that surprise and delight as you walk through the AMELS 60. Consistency of materials, architectural detailing and form means spaces flow easily into the next, thereby creating the illusion of endless space.”

Dutch superyacht builder Amels recently revealed a 197-foot hybrid yacht designed by the renowned Espen Øino, based in Monaco. Scheduled for a 2022 delivery, the Amels 60 is already being constructed under the umbrella of the yard’s Limited Editions line. Introduced back in 2007, the line is essentially a made-to-measure version of the bespoke boatbuilding process: You get a proven platform between 180 and 272 feet that you may customize inside and out, working with whichever designer matches your vision for the interiors. This cuts the wait time in half, from four years to two, for a vessel of this size.

Amenity highlights of the new Amels 60 include an owner’s-suite balcony, a huge swim platform and adjoining beach club with gym as well as a large sundeck with the requisite hot tub.

This fresh design includes a new hull form penned by Amels’ naval architects in collaboration with parent-company Damen Shipyards’ in-house research lab. This is the platform upon which all the Amels 60s will be built. The aim was to create the perfect balance of full-displacement cruising comfort with fuel efficiency, an approach becoming more common among the large-yacht builders in the last few years. “As a naval architect and as a yacht designer, I like how the Amels 60 optimizes the waterline lengths, which increases the length-to-beam ratio,” Øino says. “This is a very efficient hull form, which, in combination with the hybrid propulsion, makes the Amels 60 quite unique in this size and range of vessels.”

The boat’s hybrid setup enables it to cruise up to 7 knots with electric-propulsion motors. The system uses several energy sources and emits very little noise and vibration, burns less fuel, incurs lower maintenance costs and reduces emissions.

Inside the boat, with its large 830-gross-tonnage interior volume and 34-foot beam, guests will appreciate the huge windows that bring in lots of natural light. Conceived by London’s Studio Indigo, headed up by founder and creative director Mike Fisher, the yacht gives a sense of space and flow. “This was achieved by opening up the views and vistas between spaces to make them feel bigger, lighter and brighter,” explains Fisher.

Six suites will house up to 12 guests, and there’s room for 12 crew members and a captain. Lounging space abounds, from the sundeck to the flybridge to the aft deck and down to the swim platform. The yacht will have a top speed of 15.5 knots and a transatlantic range of 4,500 nautical miles while eco-cruising at 13 knots.

THIS NEW 263-FOOT HYBRID SUPERYACHT HAS A 2 100-SQUARE-FOOT BEACH CLUB

Amels  has entered a new  superyacht  category with the official announcement of its new 80-meter (263-ft) yacht.  The Dutch yacht builder made the launch virtually during an online presentation from the Amsterdam Theater. The company said it was viewed by “tens of thousands.”

The on-camera panel included Rose  Damen , managing director of Damen Yacht, Espen Øino, who designed the exterior, and Paul Costerus, interior designer at Sinot Yacht Architecture and Design. This all-star cast, comprised of the respected shipyard and two of the industry’s hottest design brands, also included the new 80-meter in a scaled-down, 26-foot model on center stage.

The yacht itself, which is currently under build, will be enormous, with six decks and a total interior volume of 2,175 gross tons. Aware that Amels has plenty of competitors in the 80-meter segment, the design has noteworthy features like the largest in-class, top-deck square footage, including a Jacuzzi and both access via an elevator and internal stairs as well as a spacious beach club that includes a spa, glass-bottom swimming pool and lounge area with openings on three sides.

With its vertical bow, long foredeck and tiered superstructure, Øino’s exterior is aiming for a timeless, classic look. Her modern lines will look as good in 10 years as the day she departs the yard,” he said in a statement, adding that the yacht has a “sense of scale,” but no space is wasted. “She is everything and more that you will expect from an 80-meter yacht,” he said.

The interior design has a neutral palette, with stained oak and walnut veneers, stones and leathers. The yard has kept these materials as natural-looking as possible. Loose furniture and other residential touches give the interior an open, homey feel.

“Materials are treated in such a way that the natural characteristics remain as pure as possible,” said Sinot in a statement. “Splashes of color and special finishings made from bronzed metals and glass are infused into the design throughout to create the characteristics necessary to make the yacht stand out from the crowd.”

As part of Amels’s Limited-Edition approach, it will be built on the same hull and superstructure, but owners can heavily customize the interior as well as custom tenders and toys.

The 80 will have an owner’s deck with its own lounge, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows, jacuzzi just forward of the main stateroom, and sheltered area for dining on the aft deck.

The six other cabins on the main deck all offer exceptional views, with a flexible VIP arrangement. It will accommodate a total of 14, including the owners.

The new Amels will also have hybrid electric/diesel propulsion, as well as solar panels and recycling capabilities. The tender garage forward can accommodate a 37-foot tender, with space for other tenders and toys like jet skis. The open foredeck serves as a touch-and-go helipad.

“Every new yacht challenges us to push the limits of our absolute mastery,” said Adriaan Roose, Amels’s product manager. “Decades of Amels pedigree, experience and knowhow have fed the creation of the Amels 80.” The first yacht will be delivered in 2025.

The First Amels 200 Has Launched

Amels in the Netherlands has launched its first Amels 200 , which is an evolution of the builder’s Limited Editions Amels 188.

Hull No. 1 of the Amels 200 has a length overall of 197 feet. Interiors are by Reymond Langton Design, with exteriors by Tim Heywood. Naval architecture is by Damen Yachting.

“There are many features of this design that bring a smile to my face,” Heywood stated in a press release. “The many flying buttresses, the complex winding surfaces, the upturned deck ends, the integrated life rafts, the sculptural mast and the complex stern—all form a harmonious design that sits securely in her environment, of which I am extremely proud. I believe her delicate, fluid lines will prove to be timeless, and she will still look as attractive in 50 years’ time, as she does now.”

Gross tonnage on the Amels 200 is 1,015. Power is hybrid-electric. Features include an elevator that services four decks, an air-conditioned gymnasium on the sundeck, and full-height windows in the owners’ stateroom. Accommodations are for 12 guests and 13 crew.

Burgess represented the owner in purchasing the yacht, which is expected to be delivered later this year.

60m Amels superyacht Come Together adds central agency for sale

The 60-metre Amels superyacht Come Together is now jointly listed for sale with Ben Ritchie of Y.CO and Will Christie of Christie Yachts .

Come Together, delivered in 2022, is the first in a new generation of Amels 60 Limited Editions superyachts and marks the shipyard's first collaboration with designer Espen Øino . Her bronzed exterior plays with different geometries and is instantly recognisable thanks to her four trapezoid hull windows forward. 

A custom interior courtesy of Winch Design has been designed to serve as a relaxed and convivial family home on the water. A natural palette of Jerusalem limestone, light bleached matte oak, light-tone walnut and bronze touches feature throughout paired with playful elements, like the guitar in the skylounge, which nods to the yacht's Beatles -influenced name.

Come Together can accommodate up to 12 guests across six cabins, including a full-beam owner's suite with a seven-square-metre fold-down terrace and an office space. The guest cabins found on the lower deck benefit from direct access to the beach club where a large 38 square metre swim platform awaits.

Her crowning glory, however, is a 27-metre sun deck complete with a raised sun lounging space, a Jacuzzi and a bar and an extendable dining table protected from the elements that seats up to 18 guests. As the sun sets, the space can be transformed into an open-air cinema or a party area with DJ decks.

Since her launch in 2022, she has found great success on the charter market and spent her maiden season cruising the Mediterranean. The yacht carries a crew of 14 including a personal trainer, yoga instructor, videographer, DJ, and watersports enthusiasts.

Come Together carries a nine-metre limousine tender on her foredeck, which is the largest tender carried on a yacht of her size.

Will Christie of Christie Yachts said Come Together represents "an incredible opportunity to purchase a new 60-metre Amels Limited Editions Yacht".

Power comes from a hybrid propulsion system increasing the yacht's efficiency but also minimising noise and vibration for maximum guest comfort. The yacht for sale has a top speed of 15.5 knots and a range of 4,500 nautical miles.

Come Together is asking €65,950,000. She is lying in Valencia, Spain.

Damen Yachting and Amels have signed a contract for a new custom 72m/236ft hybrid explorer yacht that will be built under the Damen brand and ready for delivery early in 2024.

Damen Yachting announce the sale of a custom 72m hybrid expedition yacht

Once completed, the explorer yacht will have interior and exterior styling from Michael Leach Design. The in-house team at Damen Yachting was responsible for her unique naval architecture and engineering.

The engines with hybrid propulsion ensure zero-emission cruising in some of the world’s most sensitive regions, with PTO/PTI hybrid electrical drives providing a top speed of 8 knots. The extensive battery banks give significant on-board power for silent cruising at night and extended cruising through delicate ecosystems.

The versatile exterior areas are designed for toy and tender storage that can easily become social spaces in the sunshine or shade. The synthetic teak decking is longer-lasting than its traditional counterpart and is also more sustainable and low-maintenance. A deck crane will carry loads of up to 14 tonnes, including a 13m/42.6ft RIB, a 9-metre utility craft and a car. The modular feature also allows for the addition of a swimming pool, or a removable battery bank, customising the hybrid expedition yacht for the destination.

The interior of 1,440 GT has room for an Owner’s deck, a VIP stateroom and large entertainment areas for the whole group, allowing visitors to come and go using the touch-n’-go helipad. The accommodation sleeps up to 12 guests and a crew of 24, which will include staff and specialists.

The project will be built entirely at Damen’s Vlissingen facility in the Netherlands, where the construction of the steel hull will be done in collaboration with sister company Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding.

10 of the biggest yachts at this year's Palm Beach International Boat Show

The Palm Beach International Boat Show returns to West Palm Beach's waterfront from March 21-24 — bringing with it some of the largest, most luxurious yachts in the world.

The Super Yacht Show Palm Beach features a range of boats that are longer than 100 feet, including 18 that are longer than 151 feet.

Here's a look at 10 of the biggest boats that visitors to the show can experience up close.

Come Together

This 197-foot behemoth with a price tag that starts at $59.95 million makes it the most expensive boat for sale at the 2024 Palm Beach International Boat Show.

Come Together provides plenty of space and amenities to do as its name suggests and bring more than a dozen people together for an adventure at sea, according to its listing on the show's website.

It was built in 2022 by Amels and features a hybrid propulsion system. The interiors were done by Winch Design of London, with materials including Jerusalem limestone, light matte oak and walnut, and bronze. The ship's six cabins can house up to 14 guests, the listing said.

A 27-meter sun deck features a Jacuzzi with a sunbathing area, gym equipment, sheltered bar and wind-protected dining table.

You can find Come Together in the water at Ramps C and D.

Hospitality

Want to buy the 164-foot Hospitality? The price starts at $29.75 million, according to the yacht's listing on the boat show's website.

The Westport-built vessel was first constructed in 2011 and refit in 2021. It has seven cabins that can accommodate 16 guests. That includes a primary suite and a VIP suite. It also features a sun deck with a hot tub and sunbathing area.

The ship has traveled "to some of the world's most remote places with an impressive 4,000+ nautical mile range," its listing said.

You can find Hospitality in the water at Ramp E at the show.

The 155-foot Ancora was just completed in August by manufacturer Mengi Yay, its listing said. It is being presented by Fraser Yachts.

Ancora was built for charter use and has a master suite with a private balcony, plus four staterooms including two doubles and two convertibles, allowing for up to 10 guests, the listing said.

Summer charter rates with Fraser run from about $282,000 per week in the western Mediterranean Sea to about $260,000 per week in the winter in the Caribbean, according to Fraser's website .

You can find Ancora in the water at Ramp 2.

Next Chapter

This Benetti-built vessel is 180 feet and 6 inches and was built in 2003 with a refit in 2022, the listing said.

Next Chapter's six cabins — including a split-level master suite with an observation lounge and private study — can accommodate up to 13 people. It features a Jacuzzi, gym and beach club, and is built for charter use, the listing said.

The price starts at $19.9 million, and the ship is being presented at the show by The International Yacht Co.

Next Chapter will be in the water at Ramp E.

For $21 million, you can be the new owner of the Feadship-built Berilda, a 155-foot yacht built in 2001 and refit in 2020-21, according to its listing.

The yacht has "the highest pedigree with a documented history of excellent owners and meticulous care," the listing said. That ownership includes Royal Swedish Yacht Club member Sten Tegner, and Richard and Leslie Fairbanks.

The current owner bought Berilda in 2021 and has sailed across the Atlantic Ocean twice and through Europe, New England, the Bahamas and the Caribbean, the listing said. The yacht features six cabins for up to 14 people and quarters for a crew of up to 10.

Berilda will be in water at Ramp C.

Liberty, built by Trinity, is 187 feet and 2 inches, according to its listing. The yacht is designed for entertaining, the listing said, with social spaces including a dance floor.

Liberty was built in 2012, with work including a paint job, main engine rebuild, new generators and 10-year survey completed since 2018. The price starts at $24.75 million and the ship is being shown by The International Yacht Co.

The yacht has six cabins for 12 guests, with additional capacity for 13 crew, the listing said.

Named simply W, this 188-foot Feadship yacht is being shown by its manufacturer, according to its listing.

The vessel, originally launched as Larisa in 2013, had a major refit in 2020 and was renamed at that time, the listing said. W's owner changed the livery and antifouling, among other alterations, over the past 10 months, the listing said.

W will be in the water at Ramp C.

Priced at $20.9 million and being shown by exhibitor FGI Yacht Group, the 164-foot Tsumat was built by Trinity in 2012 and refit last year, according to its listing.

The exterior was designed by Geoff Van Aller. The interior by Ramón Alonso features leather, suede, marble and walnut, with onyx floors.

There are six staterooms for up to 12 guests and housing for a 10-person crew, the listing said.

Tsumat will be in the water at Ramps 2 and D.

The Nita K II is about 171 feet and was built by Amels in 2004, the listing said. It's priced starting at $23.9 million and presented by Merle Wood & Associates.

A refit in 2021-22 included an overhaul of the main engines and generators, and a 20-year Lloyd's class special survey was completed earlier this year, the listing said.

The interior was designed by Alberto Pinto and Laura Sessa, and the yacht can accommodate up to 12 people in five staterooms, plus room for 14 crew members in seven cabins, the listing said.

Nita K II will be in the water at Ramp D.

If it tells you anything about the level of luxury aboard the BG Charade, this 157-foot yacht was built by Feadship in 1990 for the late Paul Allen of Microsoft, the listing said. Under Allen, the BG Charade completed three circumnavigations and served as the honeymoon venue for Bill and Melinda Gates.

A technical and cosmetic refit was completed in 2016 and included new generators, rebuilt engines, new teak on the exterior and a complete electrical system update, the listing said.

BG Charade has six cabins for up to 12 guests, plus accommodations for up to 10 crew, the listing said.

The yacht will be in the water at Ramp 7.

Bonus: Talisman C

The epically long — 231.6 feet — and super-luxurious Talisman C, built by Turquoise in 2011, will be shown by Burgess Yachts in the water at Ramps D and E.

Damen announces launch of the third Amels 60 yacht

Damen Yachting has officially announced the launch of the third hull in the 60-meter  Amels 60 superyacht series , also known as Amels 6003 . Launched from Amel’s Vlissingen shipyard facilities in the Netherlands on 3 March, the yacht will now undergo outfitting in preparation for her completion.

Characterized by distinctive, sophisticated and elegant lines, the Amels 6003 represents Damen Yachting’s vision for the future of superyachting.

The 817 GT yacht features exterior styling by Espen Oeino, with naval architecture by Damen Yachting whilst the luxurious interiors were brought together by UK-based design studio Winch Design.

Providing the ultimate onboard cruising experience for her guests, the motor yacht boasts hybrid power and propulsion technology to allow a sustainable performance and exquisite comfort onboard. Not only this, the latest Amels 6003 heavily focuses on creating ample space onboard, from her sweeping sundeck and large swim platform to her folding Owners Suite balcony, perfect for relaxation and luxurious living. The generous space arrangement also allows a 9-meter luxury tender to be stowed on the foredeck, allowing guests to travel to and from the shore in style.

Providing accommodation for 12 guests across 6 well-appointed cabins, the yacht can also carry 12 crew plus the captain to ensure a seamless cruising experience. 

Amels 6003 is the third hull of the Amels 60 Limited Edition yachts, following from the first hull in the series, superyacht COME TOGETHER , which was delivered in June 2022, and the second hull motor yacht ENTOURAGE , which was delivered in February 2023.

Amels 188 // VOLPINI 2 // Hybrid

Hat-trick at amels : a repeat client ordered the first amels 188, christened volpini 2 that is also the first hybrid-powered yacht by the yard. furthermore, it is the first tier iii yacht in the world..

The Amels 188 belongs to the successful semi-custom line Limited Editions. For the readers who don’t know, what that means: The hull and the exterior design is fully engineered and the client can bring his favorite interior designer. That saves time and costs (explained in a nutshell). The exterior design is a timeless creation by Tim Heywood . The interior of this unit has been designed by Reymond Langton .

The Amels 188 has a beam of 10.60 meters. Although the yacht is just five meters longer than her smaller sister Amels 180, the hull volume is much higher – 671 GT vs. 970 GT. Also, the beach club is much bigger. During the Superyacht Press Tour 2018 , organized the Holland Superyacht Group, I had the chance to see both models at the quay and the difference was impressive.

VOLPINI 2 has a 130 sqm owners’ suite forward on the main deck with a twelve square meters fold-out balcony. The yacht has five guest cabins on the lower deck and a VIP suite can be found on the bridge deck.

TIER III and Hybrid Propulsion of the AMELS 188 VOLPINI 2

The Amels 188 meets the new TIER III regulation by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) that is an agency of the United Nations to reduce the NOx by about 70 percent of all vessels over 500 GT with the keel laying after 1st of January 2016. Although the keel of VOLPINI 2 was laid in 2015, Amels reacted proactive and equipped the yacht with propulsion that meets the TIER III requirements.

The propulsion is a hybrid system. Amels teamed up with MTU, Veth and Hug Engineering.

Volpini 2 is currently not for sale or charter .
