This New 95-Foot Superyacht Is Like an Open-Plan Loft on the Water

Design-wise, the princess x95 is a rule-breaker. it's not only open and spacious inside, but also has an explorer hull for long-distance cruising., julia zaltzman, julia zaltzman's most recent stories.

Princess Yachts officially debuted its new X95 Monday on Facebook Live, a platform that has become a sign of these times—virtual launches, instead of real boats at boat shows. But the unusual design of the X-series’ flagship also signals changing times for Princess, showing a bolder, more creative period for the UK builder, which is now making new design rules instead of following them.

The X95—the “X” unofficially standing for explorer—is not only a sea change for Princess, but also for the 100-foot segment of the superyacht world. Princess’s goals for the X95 were an “open concept” and supersized flybridge, so owners would have greater freedom for layout choices, increased living space and more amenities in a smaller hull.

“We pushed the design language forward on this design,” Antony Sheriff, Princess chairman, said during a press conference last Thursday. “This was never going to be a traditional boat, but we asked ourselves how we could push it forward as a new design and still have it recognizable as a Princess.”

Princess

The X-95 has the same interior volume as a 115-foot yacht. It reaches a top speed of 24 knots, but, at 10 knots, has a range of 2000 miles. Princess Yachts

The Princess team, working with its longtime naval architect Bernard Olesinski and Italian design house Pininfarina, spent months hammering out the initial concept. “We had everyone in the room during design reviews and that collaboration really stretched where we wanted to take the boat,” says Sheriff. “We also went into a level of detail that is standard in the auto industry, but not in the boating world.”

The details, both large and small, included making sure that exterior surfaces like the arch on the flybridge reflected light normally in all conditions. “Details like that make a big difference,” says Sheriff. “If the surface reflected light oddly at sundown, for instance, it would make that part of the yacht look off.”

There were even larger modifications to the interior. The designers decided to remove an internal helm and instead made the helm on the top deck the primary station for driving the yacht.

X95

The sky lounge on the yacht offers excellent visibility, not only through the side windows, but also in the front and rear. Having this much space on the upper deck is a highly unusual design for a yacht this size.

“The midway helm works for some, but it positions quite a large cockpit on the main deck, often leaving a small technical space beneath the helm position,” Andy Lawrence, Princess’s director of design told Robb Report . “By deleting the lower helm, owners can now use the main deck without interruption.”

In other words, instead of having a steering station in the middle of the room, owners can turn the long, unbroken space into a master suite, library, or cinema, or anything else that they fancy. Lawrence says this “open concept” provides 80-foot-long views from the rear of the boat all the way through the salon, up to the bow. That sense of openness is the same as an urban loft, where internal walls do not distort the view. Combine the sweeping space with an open-plan galley, Lawrence says, and the design becomes very popular with American yachtsmen.

“They like their open kitchen arrangements and to have the crew involved with the daily workings of the boat,” he says.

X95 Princess

Room With a View: By taking out the helm station on the second deck, Princess designers could add a full-beam master suite with no structural impediments. Princess Yachts

Beyond open space, supersizing interior volume was also a major design goal. The 670-foot interior is actually a 40 percent increase on comparable sized yachts . It’s even 200 square feet larger than the interior on Princess’ 114-foot model.

“Because you don’t have that helm hanging through the middle, we can play with different configurations and look at different usages,” says Lawrence.

Other big changes on the X95 include the sky lounge, which has been relocated to the top deck to optimize views. The beach club area also has a lounge area and galley which can either be used as guest space or extra crew cabin. Customized steps that extend backwards were added to the stern to turn the area into a transformer platform.

X95

The designers paid very close attention to details on this yacht, including how light reflected off exterior surfaces at different times of the day.

“It’s the first time we’ve used this kind of mechanism and it was made fully bespoke by Opacmare for us,” says Lawrence. “It’s about five feet wider than the biggest one they make, so it was quite a piece of engineering—and probably took about as long to develop as the rest of the boat.”

Increased efficiencies were designed into the X95. Deck space was increased by 10 percent, thanks to the “super flybridge,” which, unlike conventional flybridge models, is one continuous level. The new hull design offers 15 percent increased efficiency while running.

X95

The unusual configuration includes a large foredeck on the top level.

Naval architect Olesinski’s wave-piercing bow “artificially extends the waterline length of the boat,” says Lawrence. “Combined with the shape of the hull, that’s what gives you the efficiency.”

The yacht will have a range of 2,000 miles at a 10-knot cruising speed, but it also reaches a highly respectable top end of 24 knots.

The first X95 has been delivered and the owners are enjoying a shakedown cruise in the Med. Annie Reed of the Princess Design Studio said so much open interior spaces allows owners many ways to configure the yacht. Hull number one has book shelves on the main deck so the owner can keep his prized library on board. By contrast, the second boat will have floor-to-ceiling windows to allow in more light. “It’s those kinds of requests that the Princess Design Studio works well with,” she said. “It’s part of our ability to understand different international lifestyles.”

x95

The open galley area allows clear line of sight from the rear cockpit up to the forward section of the main deck. Princess Yachts

Sheriff, who came to Princess after running automobile manufacturer McLaren, says an X80 will be next in its X series. “This product stands on its own feet,” he said “It’s a really compelling recipe—significantly more interior volume and extended range. This product is a very different option for our customers.”

“It’s always good to have someone coming from outside the industry with fresh eyes to just look at what you’re doing and ask questions,” says Lawrence, regarding Sheriff. “Why do you do it like that? Why do people use the flybridge in that manner? I think it was a result of those questions that pushed us to come up with this new concept.”

With ten X95 models sold to different owners around the world, it would seem that the theory is working.

X95: On board the space-age superyacht from Princess

Related articles, superyacht directory.

The Princess X95 has a forward-thinking design and a layout that allows room for comfort and creativity says Kevin Koenig , who steps on board hull 14.

The 29.1-metre Princess X95 looks like no other Princess before her. Introduced via a digital launch in summer 2020 at the height of the pandemic, the X95 follows industry trends toward building boats in this size and class with a plumb bow, without quite going the full monty. Instead, the yacht has a wave piercer that extends her waterline and which also lines up with the peak of her bow deck.

Negative space in between the two is a function of design. “A true plumb bow can generate quite a bit of spray,” says Andy Lawrence, Princess’s director of design. “We have a more relaxed angle [as the bow approaches the waterline]. It’s inverted and diverts the water more efficiently.” What Princess has done here is effectively combine the best of both worlds.

The look of the X95 is at once striking and unexpected, particularly for the comparatively staid British builder. On display at the Fort Lauderdale boat show and surrounded by her more conservatively drawn sisterships, the X95’s aggressive styling stands out.

“This is a bit of a departure for us,” Lawrence says. “There is a different look and feel aesthetically going on here. It takes a while to accept that for some, but it feels like this is the way the market is going right now. These boat profiles are going to change because people want more living space. The design of this boat [done by Pininfarina and Olesinksi, in conjunction with Princess] was really about trying to maximise the amount of usable real estate, and floor space.”

The yacht also uses a notable amount of glass in her construction, which pays dividends when capturing the elusive goal of bringing the outside in. “There are 85 pieces of glass used on this boat,” he says. “They’re big pieces too, three metres long by 1.5 metres wide, so to physically maneuver it is a challenge from a manufacturing perspective, but we are used to dealing with it now. The factory has H-frame lifting rigs with suction cups to lift the glass up, and then beam cranes overhead to manoeuver them around the factory floor. They’re simply too big to be manually handled. It’s a good bit of work of course but we think it is worth it, and by that I mean for visibility. We want as few mullions as possible.”

From glancing at the X95, one could be forgiven for wondering if the entire superstructure is made of glass. It is not of course, but it does appear that way. Regardless, Lawrence explains that the structural integrity of the X95 is not up for debate. “The glass is very strong,” he says. “It’s subjected to the same load pressures as the rest of the hull, but the hull itself has structural reinforcements that support it whether the glass is there or not.”

Besides the space-age exterior aesthetic the glass affords the boat, there are of course other advantages. Natural light is abundant, and can be felt perhaps most keenly on the main deck. On the first 13 iterations of this hull, that space encompassed both the saloon and the de rigueur owner’s cabin on main deck.

However, the owners of the 14th hull took a different tack, placing their cabin at amidships on the lower accommodations level. The galley is up and forward on the main deck, reflecting an American penchant for using the cooking space as an entertaining space as well. It’s a layout option Lawrence expects to become popular once it is photographed and publicized. “What’s been done with that main deck on that boat is simply incredible,” he says. “You can walk in the aft door and see 18 metres straight to the front, so it feels absolutely enormous.”

A feeling of enormity was important during this vessel’s design. “We really wanted to pack as much in as possible,” Lawrence says, yet “we didn’t want to crest that 24 metre (at load line) mark for various reasons. For example, you can make the boat 1.5 metres longer, but then you need more crew, and corresponding crew space, so you really end up with the same amount of boat. And if you go three metres bigger well, that’s a different size boat, isn’t it? Plus, by capping the boat at the length she is, we put a cap on the price. But with all the glass we use, and a beam that carries well forward, we think people will be impressed when they step aboard and see just how big she really is inside.”

It’s a difference Princess is betting will be a massive success.

For a yard more used to evolution than revolution the new Princess X95 is a radical departure from the norm but how does it stack up as a boat?

Things have been a little different at Princess lately. A brisk wind of change has been blowing through the hallowed halls of Britain’s most quietly conservative boatbuilder since the arrival of executive chairman Anthony Sheriff, late of McLaren Cars, and chief marketing officer Kiran Haslam, who used to work for Bentley.

These gentlemen didn’t join the firm to take it easy, but to shake things up. The world is changing, the market is changing, and as old values and habits are held up to scrutiny, new approaches and ideas are ushered in. The Princess Yachts brand, they felt, was in danger of being left behind. The very image of yachting was moribund, incapable of attracting new blood, while boatbuilders squabbled over a dwindling customer base.

Enough was enough. Persuading someone to buy a Princess instead of an Azimut or a Sunseeker was no longer going to cut it. Now the goal was to persuade someone to buy a Princess instead of a third home, instead of a Barbara Hepworth, instead of a jet – someone who had never thought of buying a boat before.

princess-x95-yacht-review-side-view

It meant new thinking, new products, new technologies – a reinvention not just of the Princess brand, but of the whole idea of what a boat can be and do. No doubt some of the old guard at the shipyard found it all rather exhausting, but when the Princess R35 was unveiled in 2018, it suddenly became clear that these new chaps were serious.

Recommended videos for you

Not only was the R35 unlike anything attempted before, but it worked. Here was a boat that used massive computing power, untried technology and a totally new hull concept based around active foils that allowed even a boating novice to drive like Don Aronow.

And now we have the Princess X95. It is perhaps a sign of the management’s growing confidence that there seems to have been almost no attempt to make it look like a boat. But looks have been no impediment whatsoever to sales – three have been delivered so far, and 12 sold, according to sales director Will Green. We caught up with Princess X95 number two at Princess’s Turnchapel base in Plymouth Harbour on a bright, blustery day. It towered over the pontoon.

MCY 96 review: Opulent deck spaces cap off this superlative superyacht

It is of course a ‘widebody’ design, a concept very much in vogue at the moment, with a raised wheelhouse and a full-length main deck interior, capped by a flybridge that is pretty much full-length too. What sets it apart from its rivals is its phenomenally bold styling, which was designed by the Princess studio and refined by Pininfarina, where Antony Sheriff happens to hold a board directorship.

The X Factor

If you set aside your convictions about what a yacht should traditionally look like, the design actually works pretty harmoniously from every angle. The curves all communicate with each other.

The phenomenal quantities of tinted glass form assertive stripes to reduce – a little – the visual height. That raked windscreen looks serious and businesslike. The full-width upper deck provides a sheltering overhang for the side decks aft, and continues right forward to the stem, accentuating the triple-layered look and cheekily exaggerating the apparent size of the interior.

princess-x95-yacht-review-aerial-view

There is really no need to exaggerate when it comes to the Princess X95, inside or out. The hull is no beamier than it needs to be, and the lower deck layout has to make do with the same volume as any conventional 95-footer, but on both the main deck and flybridge, the impression of size is extraordinary.

On a sunny day, the undoubted star of the show is the flybridge, which has marvellously elevated relaxation areas forward and aft, with a variety of furnishing possibilities, including the option of a hot tub overlooking the bow. The cosy private skydeck saloon behind the helm station is such a pleasant place to sit that the main saloon below could start to feel like an extravagance.

Princess also offers plenty of choices on the main deck, whose forward section can be fitted out either as an open-plan galley and dining room, or as a private saloon and cinema.

princess-x95-yacht-review-saloon

On our five-cabin Princess X95, it was home to a comfortable L-shaped owner’s suite , brightened by substantial side windows and by another big one facing forward, albeit offering rather restricted views onto the foredeck. Headroom throughout the yacht is impressive – 6ft 10in (2.08m) in the master, and 6ft 8in (2.03) as a minimum pretty much everywhere else. The beds, too, are all full-size.

There is so much glass installed that I found myself wondering what it all weighs. Nowhere is its effect seen better than in the main saloon, with its full-height windows each side and glazed sliding doors into the cockpit. Access to the lower deck from here is down a straight companionway to a lobby at the centre of a conventional accommodation layout.

The substantial midships suite is the largest and most comfortable cabin on board, as of course it ought to be – in four-cabin versions of the Princess X95, this will serve as the master. There are also crew cabins in the stern, in various possible configurations, and the option of a beach club looking out over the aft platform, with its impressive ‘transformer’ – a huge, teak-laid section that cantilevers up, out, and down, extending some 20ft (6m) from the transom.

Driving the Princess X95

The X95’s hull has a short, vestigial wave-piercer at the bow which might contribute a little to low-speed efficiency, and might also help with smoothing the ride upwind, but otherwise, below the waterline, the X95’s lines are conventional and full-bodied, flattening out aft to provide plenty of lift.

Unlike almost every other area of the yacht, Princess offers no choice about what to put in the engineroom. This yacht is designed around a pair of 1,900hp MAN V12s, which sit in a bright and beautifully appointed machinery space, with excellent all-round access and full standing headroom.

Halyards in the marina jangled incessantly in the unseasonal south-easterly breeze, setting up that intimidating chorus which so often persuades us to wait for better weather before venturing out. As we made our way across the Sound and into the full force of the wind, we could see the effect it was having beyond the stone breakwater.

princess-x95-yacht-review-running-shot

At 18 knots the Princess X95 has a range of 450nm; at 10 knots it’s over 2,000nm

Our Princess X95 was fitted with some excellent Sleipner fin stabilisers, and this was not a day to switch them off and see what happened. The waves didn’t look especially big from high up in the X95’s wheelhouse, but they were pretty steep, full of energy and closely spaced.

In these conditions it was hard to judge whether the small wavepiercer was achieving very much – heading upwind at 20 knots or so, any pitch-damping effect it might have been exerting was soon subsumed as the waves rolled over it and bore the bow up, while sheets of spray lashed the windscreen like a fire hose. The stabilisers certainly earned their keep.

Power games

The Princess X95 has plenty of power, and felt agile enough on the helm for such a big boat, but things don’t happen fast. With the seas on the beam, I was acutely aware of her top hamper – and couldn’t stop myself wondering again about the weight of all that glass – but the fins did their bit and the roll was well controlled. Downwind, and with the seas on the quarter, she handled and tracked with great confidence, and seemed happy to cruise on the plane at any speed from 16 knots up to her maximum.

princess-x95-yacht-review-bow-view

It was an impressive display. With the wheelhouse so far forward, it felt a bit like driving a house – but beneath all the domestic comforts, there is clearly a hull that can be relied upon.

In flatter water we ran through our speed trials, recording a two-way maximum of 23.7 knots, which seemed pretty respectable and could certainly be bettered on a calmer day. Laden as she was with almost full tanks, she settled at three or four degrees bow-up, and ran comfortably with no need for any trim-tab adjustment.

Looking out of the windows was like watching a video – inside, all was calm and remarkably quiet. As we accelerated around Penlee Point, spray drenched the windscreen and the sunlit hillsides glowed with green and gold.

The X95 experience reminded me of that other radically new Princess. When I arrived for my long-awaited sea trial of the R35 a couple of years ago, I had already done my homework. I had talked to the designers and engineers, read about the hardware and software, and understood the principles of its extraordinary trim system. This boat was cool, clever, carbon – but as I stood on the pontoon looking it over, I couldn’t help but wonder if it was also going to be fun. A similar hesitation surfaced as I stood listening to the wind howling through the halyards, craning my neck at the towering form of the Princess X95: what was this thing going to be like at sea? It turns out the answer to both questions was the same: I needn’t have worried.

Princess X95 Review (2022 Edition)

Princess has possibly created its most thrilling, industrious, and uniquely distinct yacht yet, which could easily stand among its finest creations.

Princess X95 Review (2022 Edition) image 1

Just a few years back, the idea of the X95 seemed far-fetched, especially for Princess which is known for its classic styling. However, times have changed, and for the better. Yacht design has surged forward, inspired by a daring superyacht market and the demands of discerning buyers.

Princess' journey through the challenges of crafting M Class superyachts has undoubtedly instilled a boldness in their approach, all while staying attuned to customer desires. The outcome? The X Class, vessels entirely focused on owner comfort, so much so that they might as well come with a bedtime tucking-in feature.

Design & Build

When a yacht like the X95 makes its debut, it's impossible to ignore. This 29m (95ft) vessel, capable of cruising at 25 knots with a crew, defies categorization and represents a significant departure for its British manufacturer, Princess.

Combining the bold design elements seen in its earlier M Class yachts with the practical luxury found in its flybridge F and Y Class models, the X series is packed with features that set it apart in its size category. However, above all else, the X95 prioritizes one thing: owner comfort.

Princess X95 design

In theory, the design of the X95 is simple, but its execution is incredible. This yacht maximizes space across two expansive decks, pushing the boundaries of what's possible inside and out. The upper deck — a defining feature of the X Class — introduces innovative elements like an elevated lounge and a walkaround terrace that spans from bow to stern.

Height of Luxury

The dual-deck layout naturally increases the yacht's height, a factor carefully managed to maintain aesthetic appeal. Extensive glass sections create an illusion of floating within slim white moldings, a design concept Princess has explored before but never to this extent. Alternatively, buyers can opt for more adventurous choices, with a range of exterior color schemes available.

Princess X95 design

The vertical design of the X95 shoulders most of the interior space allocation, as its slimmer beam (compared to competitors) doesn't contribute as much to volume creation. This design results in a visually tall yacht, necessitating stabilizers for stability. However, the payoff is substantial.

In addition to the upper deck, the X95 offers a generously sized and adaptable main deck. Owners can choose between a forward stateroom or a dining area, paired with what Princess terms a "country kitchen" and a social galley, perfect for gathering and enjoying the surrounding views. Below decks, the standard four-cabin layout is available, or owners can opt for a more customized configuration, as demonstrated by our test yacht.

Interior Accommodation

The upper deck lounge stands out as a star feature, but much of your decision-making will revolve around the main deck, which offers ample space for customization. With no standard layout in place, freestanding furniture allows for personalized styling of the salon. There's room for a spacious lounge and dining area, and buyers can opt for either expansive glass sections or sliding doors on each side, which offer stunning views. Our test boat's owner chose both options, underscoring their appeal.

The primary decision for owners centers on whether to have a forward owner's stateroom or a country kitchen with an open social galley, bar, and dining area. The standard galley boasts a well-thought-out design, with ample storage and refrigeration options. Additionally, a side door allows the crew to operate and serve without disrupting guests in the salon.

Princess X95 salon

The Owner Takes it All

The forward galley and dining option may pique interest, yet nearly all of the 20-plus X95s built so far have opted for the owner's cabin on the main deck. This choice speaks volumes about the draw of the main deck stateroom, a true hallmark of a superyacht. Moreover, with the additional upper lounge onboard, there's no shortage of gathering spaces on this vessel.

The stateroom boasts an elevated feel, offering captivating views through two deep windows overlooking the water. owners can also opt for a study, dressing area, and lounge within the cabin. A forward window provides a peek into the foredeck snug, complete with a pop-up TV, although the yacht we examined featured a sizable fixed TV instead. The ensuite, positioned aft of the cabin, may not be the largest, but it's perfectly adequate, with various layout and finish options available; our test yacht boasted elegant white marble finishes.

princess x95 cabin

Guest Stars

The semi-custom approach shines below decks, where you have the option to choose from various layouts, whether opting for a three or four-cabin configuration. In the four-cabin design, a VIP stateroom is situated forward and amidships, flanked by twin cabins. Each cabin offers generous proportions and comes with its ensuite bathroom.

For those prioritizing flexibility and placing emphasis on VIP accommodations, the three-cabin layout is an attractive option. During our test, we encountered a striking addition: a sprawling walk-in closet accompanying the amidships suite, replacing the starboard guest cabin. This enhancement elevates an already exceptional cabin to newfound heights, offering a private and inviting sanctuary comparable to the main deck stateroom. The deep hull-side windows add to its allure, making it just as captivating and spectacular.

Princess X95 upper salon

That Elevated Feeling

Ascending to the main deck, an elegant staircase beckons toward the upper lounge, offering a serene setting to soak in the surrounding vistas. The space is adorned with a curated selection of sofas, inviting guests to unwind and savor the scenery, with expansive glass panels and skylights framing the panoramic views. Doors seamlessly connect to the aft deck, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor living.

Customization options abound, with possibilities ranging from a convenient day head to a well-appointed bar and a variety of freestanding furniture choices. However, one of the upper lounge's standout features is its direct access to the bridge, imbuing the area with a sense of nautical sophistication that complements its luxurious ambiance. This proximity allows the owner and guests to convene effortlessly during voyages, fostering easy communication with the captain and ensuring an unforgettable yachting experience.

Helm Station

Perched forward on the upper deck, the X95 boasts a singular elevated bridge designed with a ship-like layout. A central helm seat and console command attention, flanked by forward-leaning windscreens that not only instill a sense of purpose but also offer exceptional forward and alongside visibility. Standard features include triple screens, with the option to expand to two more, providing ample space for navigational and ancillary equipment.

The specification encompasses an impressive array of navigational tools, including radar and chartplotter, while a Bonning ship-system display offers comprehensive control over various aspects of the yacht's operation. From managing the AC/DC supply to adjusting lighting, monitoring cameras, and regulating climate, this centralized system ensures control and monitoring for enhanced safety and convenience.

Princess X95 bridge

Featuring guest and crew seating to port, the X95 offers convenient access to the side and foredeck through a starboard door. Adjacent to the door, a fold-out wing station provides the Captain with an excellent vantage point to assess both the conditions and the yacht's movements up close. Additionally, another docking station is located on the main deck aft, facilitating stern-to-mooring maneuvers for added convenience and ease of operation.

Deck Lifestyle

The upper deck stands out as the signature exterior feature of the X design, setting this yacht apart from any previous Princess flybridge models. Noteworthy for both its expansive scale and the elevated level of style and specification, the deck features a full walkaround design. The immense aft terrace connects to a stunning stepped foredeck, providing ample space for a Jacuzzi if desired.

Princess X95 design

The entire upper deck is truly spectacular. The journey forward is a mesmerizing experience, with the overhang and pillar creating an elegant breaking wave that gracefully curves overhead. Moving past the foredeck lounge, steps lead down to a safely enclosed foredeck nestled within cutaway coamings. This area serves as an excellent workspace for the crew, offering ample space and security for handling lines and the anchor. However, it's not just functional; it's also sublime for guests, offering a secluded and intimate retreat in the bows, surrounded by exquisite design and top-of-the-line yachting hardware.

Princess X95 deck

This blend of lifestyle and practicality is evident throughout the decks, exemplified by the expansive deck storage lockers and twin lifeboat pods integrated into the upper aft deck's wet bar modules, strategically designed for direct deployment outboard.

Upper & Lower Deck Class

In most X95 configurations, the upper aft deck remains open, inviting free-standing lounge furniture to occupy the space, while the dining area is nestled beneath the superstructure overhang, in closer proximity to the interior. An ingeniously hidden awning discreetly extends to cover approximately half of the deck, ensuring sun-seekers always have a shaded retreat. On the main deck aft, a defined layout offers a sense of spaciousness beyond the yacht's beam dimensions, with options for conventional dining setups and various wet bar designs to suit diverse preferences.

Princess X95 transom lounge, beach club

Additional choices await on the swim platform. Standard equipment includes the 'Transformer' platform, a versatile hydraulic lift serving as both a 1000kg tender launch and recovery system, and a watersports terrace extending up to 6m (20ft) or semi-submerging. With the stern bustling with activity, opting for a mini lounge in the transom proves practical. Although it encroaches slightly into the crew quarters, an adjoining door grants the crew direct access, mitigating any inconvenience. Moreover, the standard yacht boasts a storage garage capable of accommodating a PWC.

Value For Money

Princess spares no expense in outfitting its largest yacht to date, providing ample amenities including air-conditioning, navigation equipment, and a meticulous fit-out for owners' pleasure. Notably, despite its expansive outdoor areas, the X95 surprises with its high specification, featuring rich teak covering every inch of its decks as standard.

princess X95 engine room

The engine room showcases Princess's commitment to quality and craftsmanship. Equipped with twin 40kW generators, a hydraulic system, a water-maker, and a fuel-cleaning system, it provides a robust and reliable foundation for serious cruising endeavors.

Princess X95 design

These details underpin a yacht that is undeniably spacious, well-crafted, and technically advanced, offering clever and exceptionally comfortable design both inside and out. With the potential for up to five cabins, two salons, and semi-custom finishing options, it presents a high-volume, high-value package that exceeds expectations.

Princess is fully aware of the success of the X Class design, evident in their recent launch of the new X80 and the upcoming Y95, inspired by the acclaimed X95 but featuring an open flybridge instead of an enclosed bridge. While Princess has not officially announced additional X models, it wouldn't be surprising to see more in the future. For now, let's appreciate the impressive and incredibly spacious package offered by the X Class yachts.

Reasons to Buy

 • Vast upper deck with salon
 • Up to five ensuite cabins
 • 2000nm range with extended tanks
 • Main deck Owner's stateroom or country kitchen
 • Excellent standard spec

Things to Consider

 • Challenging design, but boy does it deliver

It speaks volumes about the diversity of the new yacht market that the X95 can have so many rivals. The birth of the SUV design is now joined by yachts that, like the X Class, defy any convention or type, mixing high-volume and maximum deck space to incredible effect. It’s a wild and wonderful world full of stylistic contrasts but with every yacht here fully focused on the Owner.

One of the most obvious rivals is also a very different yacht. The 30m (99ft) Ferretti 1000 has lots in common with the X95, including dimensions, performance, a massive deck salon, main deck Owner’s stateroom and four guest cabins. But, it’s also a flybridge yacht with no upper lounge. Given the upper deck is one of the Princess’ defining features, that makes the Ferretti a possible outsider in this field.

If that upper deck lounge is important to you, there are plenty of yachts to consider. The Wally Why200 reflects the more practical course this Italian design-powerhouse is now plotting. Of course, the Why200 still looks fantastic, with a cohesive, sophisticated design that adds a good dose of Wally stealth-chic. Inside, the main deck Owner’s cabin is the stuff of dreams, the three or four guest cabins are all impressive. The upper deck features a vast aft terrace and a cool lounge set within the glass superstructure. There is also some very useable 20-knot performance from quadruple pod drives. The Wally isn’t as big as the X95 overall but it is excellent in key areas.

Another design triumph, the Sanlorenzo SX88 has a minimalist interior design full of cool and calm Italian lifestyle. There are numerous layout options, particularly across the main salon, with four or five-cabins layout and a main deck Owner’s stateroom. Again the SX88 can’t match the X95 on overall space or the sheer number of places to enjoy inside or out. But it does look sensational.

If size is important, the Numarine 32XP is the kind of yacht that likes to make 40m vessels feel inadequate. It looks massive, with a tall, powerful SUV design delivering a bridge deck with a lounge and huge aft terrace. The foredeck, upper and main deck aft are all big, as are the main deck Owner’s cabin and four guest quarters. The serious explorer looks are backed up by a massive 4000nm range.

We may have saved the best until last in the new Azimut Magellano 30 Metri. We don’t have much information on this model but it looks sensational (if the Thunderbirds had a yacht it would look like this) and packs a proper bridge deck with a massive, full-beam terrace. Inside a main-deck Owner’s stateroom is joined by four ensuite guest cabins below. Performance is expected to be around 20knots.

Rule-breaking design of the ‘Princess X class’ – X95 and X80 Exterior

Princess’ most recent development, the Princess X95, features an innovative new design that redefines what a luxury yacht is capable of. This complex project was developed in partnership with renowned Italian designer Pininfarina, and leading naval architect, Olesinski.

This unique design team refers to their groundbreaking new design as the luxury SUV of yachts. It has been developed with an open-plan modular interior that maximises space, providing a variety of customisable floor plan options.

This unique concept provides a flybridge and main deck interior space that cover almost the full length of the yacht. This Super Flybridge, the X Class’s defining characteristi c, provides 10% more outdoor space and 40% more indoor space than a traditional motor yacht. This new yacht design takes Princess’ remarkable craftsmanship to the next level and sets the standard for further developments in yacht construction.

Princess is well-known for the excellent craftsmanship and inspired interior design of their vessels. In addition to the X95 superyacht, a variety of smaller Princess vessels are astounding in their own right.

The beauty and design expertise present in the X95 are fully carried over into her sister ship, the Princess X80. This vessel also has a ‘super flybridge’ that provides 30% more space above deck for enjoying the seafaring experience.

This design incorporates ample natural light to illuminate the four en-suite cabins, saloon, galley, and forward dining area. There is also accommodation for three crew members. This spacious design provides a yachting experience unlike any other for a boat of its size.

Following the announcement of Princess Yachts’ most technologically advanced and fastest-ever yacht, the revolutionary R35 performance sports yacht, record-breaking results and the most aggressive product launch plan in the 53-year history of the company, Princess reveals the all-new Y85, a further result of the collaboration with Pininfarina, aimed at redefining the Princess’ brand identity through a masterfully studied range of motor yachts.

The elegant Princess Y85 is an impressive sight to behold out on the water. Its expansive single-level main deck has a flexible galley arrangement with generous entertaining spaces. Three separate seating areas allow the crew to move seamlessly throughout the ship without disturbing guests.

As with the Princess Y95, this vessel was designed in collaboration with Pininfarina and Olesinski. Their design prioritises a stylistic grace that gives the Y85 a fluid contour, similar to a sports car. These flowing lines seen throughout the design not only add to the beauty of this vessel but maintain good aerodynamics for a smooth ride. The Y85’s exterior living spaces are replete with lavish detailing to accentuate these innovative structural lines.

The Y85 leads a new interior/exterior design language for the Y Class range. The exterior living spaces are richer than any previous Princess, with high levels of paintwork to seating and wet bars accentuating their form. Teak details give a soft tactile warmth both underfoot and to key touch points, such as the capping to the aft flybridge glass screens,” Said, Andy Lawrence Princess’s director of design

The interior design of the Princess Y85 is equally inspired. Intricate paintwork and teak detailing add richness and comfort to interior spaces. Three-metre windows provide ample natural light and allow guests to enjoy a breathtaking ocean view as they dine or recline in the saloon. Impeccable artistry defines every inch of this incredible vessel, from its outer shape to the smallest interior details.

The new Princess Y72 joined the collection of award-winning Princess motor yachts when it was released in 2021. This yacht emulates the same brilliant design and high-quality craftsmanship as its sister yachts and catapults it into the future. The refined sophistication of this vessel makes it a pleasure to experience.

Like its larger sister vessels, the Y72 features spaces uniquely optimised to be aesthetically pleasing and highly functional. Full-length windows bathe the interior in natural light, and gorgeous satin-finished oak and walnut details outline luxurious furnishings. Boat Lagoon Yachting customers will soon be able to view this beautiful yacht for themselves in our Singapore location.

This expertly designed yacht features modular cockpit seating, convertible foredeck seating, and extensive windows to provide natural light to below-deck cabin areas. This S Class Sport motor boat makes clever use of space and offers a comfortable yachting experience ideal for sports enthusiasts. The sportsbridge offers a seating area and wet bar, equipped with waterproof speakers and optional lava brick barbecue.

The Princess V55 is an athletic vessel designed with intelligent use of space and impressive performance capabilities. This powerful sports yacht can reach a top speed of 37 knots, delivering an exciting cruising experience. With excellent visibility and smooth handling, this yacht can be easily manoeuvred in various sea conditions. Her overall design and naval architecture are also from the Olesinski Studio. Visibility from the helm is also excellent.

The cockpit features an L-shaped seating area with additional aft seating, a wet bar and electric barbecue, perfect for entertaining. The L-shaped seating area displays this yacht’s innovative design. It can be lengthened by a foldable chair on the end for a spacious seating area or minimised to provide mobility while underway. This design perfectly displays the prowess of the Pininfarina school of design and exemplifies Princess’ expert pairing of performance and functionality.

Boat Lagoon Yachting is the oldest and largest dealer and distributor of Princess in Asia. We are proud to represent Princess’ breathtaking modern yachts, from S Class sportsbridge vessels to impressive X Class superyachts. 10 Small Superyachts That Offer Supersized Interiors

Posted: June 21, 2023 | Last updated: June 21, 2023

For many yacht owners, the solution to finding more space aboard for friends and family is summed up by that immortal line by Chief Brody in Jaws: “You’re gonna need a bigger boat.”

Until now, bigger has typically meant longer. But that’s quickly changing as more and more builders are creating interior volume by going wider and taller. For disrupter builder Wally Yachts and its polarizing new Wallywhy 150—which refers to its internal volume rather than the boat’s length—the quirky design is said to deliver 50 percent more space than more traditional 78-footers.

Other builders like Princess have been in the game since 2021.

Its X95 first appeared several years ago, effectively throwing down the gauntlet as a way forward for sub-100-foot yachts to supersize both interior and exterior volumes.

Since then, many other builders of small superyachts have jumped on board, with designs that typically have somewhat bloated profiles, far-forward main suites, and open transoms—features all designed to maximize space but minimize length.

Here are 10 new yachts 100 feet and under that are breaking the mold in an attempt to dominate the nautical space race.

It’s no wonder that disrupter Italian builder Wally—now part of the Ferretti Group—calls its latest head-turner a “spaceship.” Claiming up to 50 percent more space than comparable 78-footers, the 150 (named after interior volume rather than length) has standout features like a main salon with over eight feet of headroom, and a beam of more than 22 feet. The pragmatic design includes a one-level main deck attached to an open rear cockpit that offers easy access to the water. Its most noteworthy feature is the rule-breaking, full-beam master suite tucked into the bow on the main deck. It has wraparound glass—stretching all the way around the bow—for panorama-like views from the main bedroom. Priced from about $6.7 million.

Short for Ultra High Volume, this new Turkish-built pocket superyacht is a sistership to Lazzara’s UHV 100 and 125 models. The newest Lazzara boasts an impressive 2,153 square feet of interior space in its 87-foot length. Arguably, the boat is not pretty in a classic sense. The towering hull sides, blunt, plumb bow, and dark-tinted glass make it look more like a dinner cruiser than a mini-superyacht. But the interior space is astonishing, from the cavernous Sky Lounge, with its floor-to-ceiling windows, to the salon with a separate, chandelier-lit dining area and chef’s galley. With a fuel capacity of 3,000 gals, the twin 1,000 hp Volvo D13s deliver a top speed of 16 knots. The boat also has transatlantic range. Base price starts at about $10.9 million.

Movie nights under the stars should have a whole new appeal aboard UK builder Sunseeker’s brand-new 98-footer. Lie back on the yacht’s extra-wide foredeck sunpad and watch the latest blockbuster on a 140-inch screen with laser projection. Or, if you’re the lucky owner, stargaze from your private terrace tucked away in the bow, just steps from the full-beam main-deck master suite, with atrium-style glass sliding doors. One of the best innovations here is the wide, uninterrupted walkway around the entire top deck, which provides safe, easy access from the flybridge to the forward entertaining space. With its twin 2,600 hp V16 MTU diesels, top speed is an impressive 29 knots. Priced from about $10.5 million.

For its brand-new Grande 26M compact superyacht, Italian builder Azimut has gone extra wide to create massive interior and exterior spaces. Spatial highlights include a full-width flybridge that’s almost 20 feet across and close to 40 feet long, and a foredeck entertaining area that seems more like an outdoor patio. The Alberto Mancini-styled go-fast cruiser is crammed with space-enhancing innovations, such as a teak-decked garage door that, at the touch of a button, hinges upwards to extend the rear cockpit by almost five feet. New ZF pod drives coupled to the yacht’s twin 1,650 hp MAN V12 diesels also save space. It is priced from about $6.2 million.

As we said during our 2021 tour of Britain’s Princess Yachts’ tri-deck X95 “When it comes to the polarizing, head-spinning design, there are no half-measures, no in-betweens. You either love it. Or loathe it.” But what those eye-popping lines hide is perhaps the most spacious 95-foot luxury cruiser in the category. Reckoned to be some 40 percent roomier than cruisers with the same length, the X95 has stretch-out accommodations for up to 10 in five cabins and living spaces that rival most apartments. The flybridge covers almost the entire length of the yacht. The 100 is also fast, with twin 1,990 hp MAN V12s delivering a top speed of 23 knots. Prices start at about $12 million.

This broad-beamed 96-footer is from the Italian builder Extra Yachts, which is part of the Palumbo Superyachts Group. While it’s called the Triplex, there are actually four levels if you include the cozy upper sundeck with its outdoor kitchen, dining area and oversized sunpads. The exterior comes courtesy of Italian designer Francesco Guida, while interiors are by Milan-based Hot Labs. Both teams have made the most of the yacht’s class-leading 25-foot beam. Notable features include a vast full-beam master on the main level and an upper salon dedicated entirely to dining, with a table for 10, an open chef’s galley and an adjoining outdoor bar. Twin Volvo IPS1350s deliver a 16.5-knot top speed. Priced from $12 million.

This Sunreef power catamaran’s beam spans a staggering 44 feet, offering the kind of interior and exterior spaces you only get with superyachts twice the length. Every element of the yacht is XXL-size—from the massive hydraulic swim platform to the full-width flybridge that covers almost 1,000 square feet. Down in the salon is a huge 11-seat U-shaped bar that would delight any mixologist. The five staterooms in the twin hulls have space for 10. A pair of 1,300 hp MAN V8 diesels delivers a six-knot top speed. It is priced from about $15.3 million.

In Italian, the word “navetta” translates to “little ship.” Which is a perfect description for Absolute’s new 75-foot fast cruiser. It’s an evolution of the strong-selling Navetta 73 but with nearly two feet of extra length. The yacht’s expansive interior volumes will remain the same, with features like a forward master stateroom on its own level that has a private entrance steps away from the main salon.
Cross a spacious Miami high-rise penthouse with a Canyon Ranch spa and the result could be this new 96-foot superyacht from Italian builder Arcadia. Boasting a remarkable 4,300 square feet of total living space, there’s room for 12 guests and five crew. And the living spaces even expand, courtesy of fold-down terraces in the main salon and on the rear deck. But the yacht’s focus on wellness and healthy living sets it apart. That expansive, teak-decked foredeck, spanning over 500 square feet, is perfect for yoga sessions or meditation, while the cockpit and beach club offer another 1,000 square feet of social space. For extra peace and quiet at anchor, solar panels can provide up to nine hours of generator-free power.

Think of it as offering pace, with space. Turkish yard Numarine has been building its bold 85-foot 26XP explorer style mini-superyacht since 2018, but later this year, it will launch the U.S.-focused 26XP Fast. Instead of slow-churning 435 hp diesels and nine-knot cruising, it’s bolting-in a pair of mighty 1,800 hp MAN V12s and modifying the hull to deliver a top speed of 31 knots. What hasn’t changed is the XP’s cavernous interior and expensive deck space. Take the top-deck flybridge which, thanks to the yacht’s 21-foot beam and far-forward helm, spans over 700 square feet. That space will include a dining table for eight, a full outdoor kitchen, and more lounges than a Saint-Tropez beach bar. Prices start from $6.95 million.
