YORK MARINE is proud to announce its new day-sailing and racing yacht, the YORK 18 . It is the largest of yacht designer Chuck Paine’s new series of elegant, Herreshoff-12 ½ inspired keelboats for the no-longer athletic sailor. With this series, Paine combines homage to Nat Herreshoff’s exquisite topside aesthetics with a fully modern fin keel and balanced spade rudder and a freestanding carbon fiber mast. In her racing role, she will provide plenty of fun for a three or four person crew to get the most out of her spinnaker, while she can easily accommodate five adults and a dog for coastal sightseeing. Best of all, she can be easily sailed without any crew at all. Her fiberglass hull is seamless and unsinkable and is trimmed with highest quality varnished teak so as to beautify any harbor in which she is kept.
The york 18 is hand-built in maine. it is our intention to source all materials from the usa, even when chinese parts might be cheaper. her beautifully varnished sculpted teak wale strake, inlaid teak transom, teak seats and other cosmetic trim demand highly skilled labor, providing good, stable jobs for american workers. we anticipate that many owners will see her as the perfect replacement for an end-of-life family legacy yacht, and that whole fleets will emerge for racing and comradery at your local yacht club. , the york 18 is the perfect size, as it is extremely simple to get going and put away for a short sail, and it can be easily owner-maintained. she lacks an engine, electronics, and plumbing… the aspects of larger yachts that balloon the maintenance. of course, you can if you wish fit a removable torqueedo battery powered kicker, put navionics gps on your cellphone (cost $9.95 for all usa harbors), or take along a porta-potti, but none of these require appreciable maintenance. her outside lead ballast makes her very stable and exceedingly difficult to swamp., with an all-up weight no greater than the herreshoff-12 ½/ doughdish, the york 18 is trailerable behind a reasonably powerful automobile, and she can be owner launched and retrieved without needing a boatyard. no crane is involved to put the lightweight carbon fiber mast in place- it can be swung up into its herreshoff-pattern bronze mast gate by one healthy person. the mainsail is attached to the mast by velcro straps, eliminating the tedium of a track and sail slides and reducing the time it takes to get the boat rigged. the full-length vertical jib battens prevent the top of the high-aspect jib from twisting off and losing drive., it is our intention to build the york 18 to the very highest standards so that she will be a prestigious testament to your good taste and one that will retain its high initial value. it will deliver the highest performance that can be gotten out of any family-safe keelboat, so you can see a lot of territory in a short amount of time. the jib is entirely self- tending so no winches are needed and she can be short-tacked up a narrow channel without touching the sheets. she is literally impossible to capsize, and if swamped has ample flotation to remain afloat and upright so she can be bailed out and gotten going again without assistance. her seats are ergonomically comfortable and there is no need for hiking out or other athletics to get the best out of her. with her ample sailplan and carbon mast she is very fast and close-winded- a true joy to sail. , the york 18 is the largest of chuck paine’s recent series of unprecedentedly high- performance, herreshoff- inspired fin keel/ carbon rigged sailing yachts. these consist of the paine 14, designed in 2007, the paine 15, designed in 2017, and our own york 18. the first two 18’s are currently on order and we invite your inquiry to add your own masterpiece to the growing fleet of the world’s finest small sailing yachts., l.o.a 18’ 1”, l.w.l. 14’ 7”, beam 6’ 3”, draft 2’ 9”, sail area 160 sq. ft., york custom yachts.

Michael York of York Custom Yachts in Rockland, Maine is building these supremely high quality 18-foot Herreshoff-inspired sailing yachts in fiberglass with your choice of extensive varnished mahogany or teak trim. These high performance keelboats are classy, valuable, fast, unsinkable, trailerable and owner-launchable, and just the right size to take home and store for the winter, avoiding the bother and expense of a boatyard. The draft is only 2′ – 10″ so you can launch and retrieve her yourself, if you wish, and stow her in your garage or on a boat-lift if you live on a lake or a canal in Florida.
York Marine of Rockland, Maine, is convinced of traditional, Herreshoff 12 1/2 styled topsides combined with a fully modern moderate displacement fin and spade underbody. This line of daysailors is heavily lead-ballasted to be very stable without the need for athletics, and provides a low, secure cockpit with comfortable seatbacks (coamings) so they can be sailed for hour after hour in real comfort.
Mike York wanted the YORK 18 to be unsinkable, and to reduce the impact of an inadvertent swamping. So he developed a very elaborate internal fiberglass unit. It encompasses the forward bulkhead with a stowage nook, the subsole with bosses to receive the real hardwood sole slats, the aft bulkhead, and the afterdeck. If you think about it you can picture this as a very expensive bathtub. There is absolutely no way that sea water can get out of this bathtub and into the hull proper. Even the decision to locate the aft hatch for gear stowage on the afterdeck rather than the more conventional location on the face of the aft bulkhead was made to insure that no water could ever find its way out of the “tub.” It is beautifully tooled and fits precisely into the hull, contributing to the structural stiffness of the hull itself.
The rare yachtsman who desires a daysailer of investment quality is blessed with a number of clear choices, all with splendid fit and finish (and commensurate pricetags). The available fleet until the introduction of the York 18 consisted of the Paine 14, Levant 15, Herreshoff and Doughdish 12 1/2, and Pisces 21. The York 18 fills the obvious gap between the 15′-10″ H12/Doughdish and the 21′ Pisces . Given her modern underbody, although she falls halfway between the 12 1/2 and Pisces 21 in size, she is the equal and more of the larger Pisces in performance.
THE YORK 18
Mike York wanted to address the man-overboard eventuality. On the outside of the transom there’s a little leather strap sticking out, and if you pull it a hinged door opens and out slides a shiny stainless steel, articulating boarding ladder that flops down into the water. When you’re finished using it you just slide it back into its watertight scabbard and close the door.
The yacht will be supplied standard with a varnished tropical hardwood transom, sculpted varnished sheer strakes, cockpit coamings, seats and trim to mimic her understandably revered predecessor, the Herreshoff 12 1/2. Please inquire directly to Mike York regarding price and delivery schedules.
Owner Barbara and builder Mike take the maiden sail on the York 18 August 1st, 2020.

Custom Flex Interlake Sailboat 18 ft with Pamco Trailer
Delphos, Ohio
Make Custom Flex
Model Interlake
This boat is a 1975 Custom Flex Interlake sailboat. The boat is complete as far as I can tell and includes the mast, boom, rudder, tiller, main and foresail and a Pamco trailer. I am the third owner of this boat, I have not sailed it but the previous owner was sailing the boat in 2013. The hull needs some fiberglass work done where the centerboard pocket is on the hull, and the floor has delaminated. The sails, rudder, mast and boom are in good condition. The tiller is in working condition but should be replaced. The Pamco trailer is in excellent condition and only needs tires and paint. I would probably replace the wooden guides also. The boat has a title, the trailer is registered. Local pickup only. Delivery might be arranged depending upon distance. No returns unless item not as described.

This is Hull #1, 1961, Windjammer 21's from California, designed by Morgan Embrogan and built in Southern California back in the 60's and early 70's by various commercial builders. There were at least 15 built and I have a gaff-rigged, topsail cutter. This Windjammer sailed to Hawaii and back from California twice and to Alaska and back to CA. boats have very easily folded masts, even under sail, fit into US containers (24). The Windjammer 21 will sleep 4 in separate bunks and is very comfortable under way and in the slip. With quadrant centerboard up it draw 18 inches and weight empty is 2500#. It has always been great in the Channel Islands because it cuts over the kelp and because it is so light we used to tie off to the kelp (don't shoot me) to keep from carrying 600' feet of line and extra chain necessary to normal anchor around the islands. Boat is in Charleston, SC now on a trailer. Steel trailer has 4 new tires, wheels, bearings, recently pulled from Florida. 6 bags of sails, all rigging, outboard in a well, boat is ready to sail but could use some TLC, paint, varnish, etc. Photo of Black hull boat is a sistership. Could deliver for a fee if needed after purchase.

Small family fun from Chuck Paine
F or some odd reason these days I seem to be attracted to “grandpa boats.” This new Chuck Paine designed 18-footer looks like just the ticket for me to have some fun with my grandkids, Violet and Drake. In fact it’s perfect in every way.
It is good-looking and that is no surprise, considering Chuck drew the boat. Chuck doesn’t have an ugly line in him. The sheer shows a strong spring but the boat is quite full on deck forward and you need that spring in profile to be where the curvature is in plan view. Chuck usually uses what is called a “planar sheer.” This means that the sheerline is cut from one plane that theoretically intersects the topsides. This results in a sheer that will look fair from any angle. Next time you are walking through the boatyard look up at the boats on their stands. Some will have sheers that wander all over the place. Those are non-planar sheers. Chuck taught me about planar sheers 44 years ago.
Despite the very traditional-looking topsides Chuck has given the York 18 a more modern hull form with moderate deadrise and a hint of hollow in the waterlines aft. This hollow aft can help to make the transom shape pretty and not “blocky.” Giving the transom just a bit of hollow near centerline adds delicate finesse to the look. Waterlines forward are quite full as you would expect with that strong, spoon-shaped stem profile. Draft is only 2 feet 9 inches, making the boat suitable for trailering. The D/L is 221 and the L/B is 2.89. There is 695 pounds of ballast in the fin keel. A finely shaped, semibalanced spade rudder should give this boat a very nice feel in all conditions.
The rig has a couple of Chuck innovations. To make it easy to trailer, the mainsail comes off by releasing Velcro bands that wrap around the mast. The mast is carbon fiber. The jib has the “Paine DVT” roller reefing, a self-vanging system that helps prevent the club from rising when the sheets are eased. The SA/D is 19.23 and that’s plenty to keep a performance-oriented sailor happy while not worrying about the grandkids.
The builder of the York 18 is York Custom Yachts of Rockland, Maine. Tooling is being built right now. The builder would like to find a few more buyers to push the project along faster. This is an expensive 18-footer and falls into the “legacy boat” category meaning you pass this one down through the family. It will have enduring value. All materials are top notch. The fiberglass hull is generously trimmed out with a lot of varnished teak. Cleats, blocks and bow chocks are antique bronze models. In short, this is what they used to call a “gold plater.”
I can imagine spending a most enjoyable afternoon with my grandkids, sailing around the bay comfortably and safely on the York 18.

The York 18
The best little sailboat in the world.
Call it prejudice, nepotism, or something of the sort, since the designer is my twin brother, but I think the York 18 might just be the best-designed small sailboat in the world.
Ever since Chuck Paine “retired” from his office in 2008, he’s mostly just dabbled, inventing boats for his own enjoyment. He built one in the barn adjoining his house, and is presently out there again, at work on a slightly larger version.
Paine has owned a Herreshoff 12½ for 40 years. He opines that it is, or was, the world’s greatest sailboat design. All his post-retirement boats are on that theme: modern upgrades on the H 12½. He has built 14-foot and 15-foot models, which proved successful, sailing well and selling for a pretty penny. A few years ago he drew up an even larger version, which is called the York 18.
How this latest incarnation came to be is an interesting tale starring Michael York, who is a living anomaly. Not because he is a workaholic or a perfectionist, but because he loves working with fiberglass. He absolutely itches to arrive at the shop each day and sculpt with fibers of glass; for him eau-de-styrene is the sweet smell of success. York has built many Chuck Paine designs over the years, the majority of them powerboats. He’d observed Paine’s success selling 14-foot and 15-foot sailing embellishments of the Herreshoff theme, and he wanted to get in on the game.
So York commissioned Paine to build an even bigger model.
Herreshoff 12½s were conceived over a century ago as a safe trainer for young sailors. It’s easy to understand why these small keelboats were so beloved by children and their parents. Unlike most training sailboats, a keelboat cannot capsize. Keelboats can swamp, however, shipping a whole lot of water usually as a precursor to sinking, but it requires a violent puff of wind. Also, without a boom tent, a keelboat that lacks a self-bailing cockpit could theoretically sink on the mooring after a big rain storm. Nathanael Herreshoff answered these shortcomings by specifying that the bow area of an H 12½ be walled off as a large air tank. He thus created a keelboat that was both inherently resistant to capsizing and impossible to sink. That said, a vintage H 12½ wouldn’t offer much respite for the crew after swamping. The original boats remained afloat with just a small portion of the bow above water. Paine realized that if you could fix that, then the resulting design would approach qualifying as the best little sailboat in the world.
The York 18 shares many of the benefits of the classic original, and will have lots of highly varnished mahogany or teak trim. A clever fiberglass tooler, York has fussed over his fiberglass molds and jigs for a year and a half. The combination of perfect tooling, extreme quality stitched roving, vinylester resin, the latest composite technology, and hidden tricks that make the parts fit together with precision are York’s stock-in-trade. As for those wooden embellishments, he has subcontracted the woodwork on the two boats that York is finishing up now to Alec Brainerd of Artisan Boatworks in Rockport. (York dreams about cloning himself in the future, so that he can both roll in fiberglass and exhibit his mastery in the tropical wood dust of the joiner shop.)
Paine’s designs share the attribute of a Herreshoff 12½, that it is basically a sailing cockpit. Herreshoff knew about self-bailing cockpits, but he also knew that for comfort, legs have to dangle to a low floor. The fact that the York 18 has an extra-commodious sailing cockpit meant paying careful attention to ergonomics. Paine agonized over seat angles, coaming height, width of side decks, and many other factors to ensure that, seated to leeward or windward, the crew’s comfort would be exceptional.
The major difference between Paine’s designs and the Wizard of Bristol’s original 12½ was that instead of a long keel, Paine designed a shorter NACA foil with a separated elliptical rudder. This seemingly small change, combined with improvements such as an unstayed carbon mast, made his previous experiments much livelier performers. This bigger version should share those boats’ delightful feel on the helm, enjoyable maneuverability, easy set-up, and not least—exceptional safety.
The target age-group for the York 18 stretches roughly between the 50s of Michael York and the age of Paine, which is remarkably close to my own, and which can be delicately described as approaching nautical twilight. It’s particularly apt that this design is fun for those of us with mature joints and ligaments, but also very safe. You could bail the ocean into a York 18 and at a certain point, due to airtight tanks fore and aft, with foam injected even into the bilges, it will become a floating Jacuzzi. Crew members could even use their hands to splash the water out, although most owners of these boats, with the wisdom of age, will purchase the optional automatic bailing pump.
This boat combines Herreshoff panache, which Paine had nothing to do with except to exhibit the good sense to leave it alone, with unbeatable aesthetics, scintillating performance, upscale detailing, old-person comfort, and super safety. I leave it to the reader to determine if I am overreaching by tagging the York 18 as the best little sloop in the world.

Bankruptcy creditors want Rudy Giuliani to sell his Palm Beach condo, court filing shows
In new filing, creditors in former new york city mayor rudy giuliani's bankruptcy case say palm beach condo should be sold to help pay his debts..
Will former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani be forced to sell his lakefront vacation condominium in Palm Beach across from the Town Marina to help satisfy the debts outlined in his federal bankruptcy case?
A filing on behalf of creditors in the New York-based case says the Palm Beach condo is one of the key assets amid his strikingly in-the-red balance sheet. Giuliani's own court filing has valued the apartment at $3.5 million.
Giuliani filed for voluntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in December after being slapped with a $148 million judgment for defaming two Georgia election workers during the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election, when he was working as a legal adviser to former President Donald Trump.
The Georgia judgment, which Giuliani has appealed , came amid mounting costs related to other legal actions against Giuliani.
The creditors’ March 15 filing in the Chapter 11 bankruptcy case says Giuliani’s primary residence is his New York City apartment, so the Florida condo is fair game to be sold to help pay his debts.
Giuliani has not homesteaded the Palm Beach condo — No. 5D at The Southlake building at 315 S. Lake Drive — in the Palm Beach County tax rolls. Such a designation would indicate the apartment serves as his main residence.
“On several occasions, (Giuliani) has emphasized his limited assets available for distribution to creditors — according to the (Giuliani’s) counsel, ‘there’s no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow,’” the March 15 motion said. “Of this purported limited pool of assets disclosed by the Debtor, the Florida Condo is a key asset, and the proceeds thereof will be available to satisfy the claims of his creditors.”
On Friday, Giuliani attorney Heath Berger described the request to sell the condo in Palm Beach as “extremely premature,” according to reporting by CNBC .
“The case is still in its infancy,” Berger, a partner at Berger, Fischoff, Shumer, Wexler & Goodman, LLP, told CNBC.
Berger also told the outlet that Giuliani wants to move to Florida full time and is laying the groundwork to sell his New York apartment in Manhattan.
The New York apartment is valued at $5.6 million, according to Giuliani’s filing.
As of Monday morning, a response on behalf of Giuliani to the March 15 motion had not been filed with the court, an online search of records showed. The case is being overseen by Judge Sean H. Lane in the Southern District of New York.
There could be issues in selling the Florida condominium. A tax lien filed in August by the IRS for unpaid taxes remains attached to the Palm Beach condo, courthouse records show. The lien document shows Giuliani owes the IRS $549,435, the “unpaid value of assessment” for the tax period ending in December 2021. A spokesman for Giuilani said last fall that Giuliani had worked out a formal deal with the IRS to pay the taxes.
If Giuliani sold the condo, the IRS lien would have to be paid first for the buyer to obtain a clear title.
The March 15 motion also seeks to compel Giuliani to secure homeowners insurance for the apartments in Palm Beach and New York.
Rudy Giuliani took possession of Palm Beach condo after his bitter divorce was finalized
Giuliani’s two-bedroom condo is in a 1960s-era, serpentine-shaped building facing the Palm Beach Marina and offers views of West Palm Beach across the Intracoastal Waterway.
The apartment has an estimated “total market value” of $3.07 million in Palm Beach County’s latest tax rolls.
The real estate website Zillow , however, estimates the condo has a resale value of $5.402 million.
Giuliani’s condo is not listed for sale in the multiple listing service run by the Palm Beach Board of Realtors, an online search Monday showed.
At one point in 2019, Giuliani’s condo was listed for sale at $3.3 million , but it never found a buyer.
RUDY GIULIANI HAS DEEP PALM BEACH TIES: With legal woes mounting, Rudy Giuliani has been a familiar face in Palm Beach
Giuliani and his third wife, Judith Nathan Giuliani, paid $1.9 million for the two-bedroom apartment at The Southlake in February 2010.
The couple’s bitter divorce after 16 years of marriage was finalized in 2019, and Rudy Giuliani took sole possession of the condo — with its 2,280 square feet of living space, inside and out — in January 2020, property records show. That same month, his ex-wife was deeded the couple’s other Palm Beach condo, a smaller two-bedroom unit at Palm Beach Towers.
Rudy Giuliani's Palm Beach condo is in a full-service building
Giuliani’s apartment is on the next-to-the-top floor of the building. A previous sales listing mentioned the condo’s “spacious living area,” oversized balcony, kitchen equipped with top-of-the-line appliances and master suite with a spa-like marble bath, sitting area and walk-in closet.
The Giulianis’ renovation of the condo included the addition of custom millwork, crown moldings, recessed lighting, tray ceilings and built-in cabinetry.
With six floors and 31 units, The Southlake was designed by noted architect Howard Chilton in 1969. Chilton championed what has since become known as the Mid-Century Modern style and designed several multi-family buildings near The Southlake, including those at 445 Australian Ave. and at 369 and 389 S. Lake Drive.
The Southlake’s amenities include a swimming pool, an outdoor lounge area, changing rooms and a barbecue area. The building has a full-time manager, door staff and service personnel.
Several Palm Beach real estate agents previously contacted by the Palm Beach Daily News declined to comment about the building or Giuliani’s condo.
But one seasoned agent took note of The Southlake’s waterfront address in the heart of Midtown, five blocks from the shopping and dining destinations on Worth Avenue. The condo is also near the Society of the Four Arts cultural center and library, and a few blocks from the South County Road commercial district and Midtown Beach.
“It’s a low-key condo in an A-plus location," said the agent, who spoke only on condition of anonymity.
MAR-A-LAGO MISTAKE: Oops! Eric Trump denies Mar-a-Lago sold for $422 million; Zillow admits listing error
Giuliani is facing plenty of legal trouble stemming from the role he played during Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign and its aftermath.
Giuliani surrendered Aug. 23 at Georgia’s Fulton County Courthouse and was booked on 13 conspiracy-related charges related to interfering in the 2020 election On March 13, the judge overseeing the case tossed out six of those charges against Giuliani, Trump and four other defendants, all of whom had pleaded not guilty in the case.
In an Aug. 30 civil-suit ruling, U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell found Giuliani liable for defaming Georgia election workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss . Before the final judgment, Howell already ordered Giuliani to pay Freeman nearly $90,000 in legal fees and his businesses to pay nearly $44,000 in legal fees.
Giuliani once said he could be a walking advertisement for Palm Beach
In the years before they split, the Giulianis were frequently seen visiting Palm Beach, often attending events at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club which is about 2½ miles north of The Southlake building, Rudy Giuliani also has occasionally been the guest speaker at local events .
Giuliani said in 2018 he could be a walking “commercial for Palm Beach” and enjoyed playing golf on Trump’s two Palm Beach County courses, including the Trump International Golf Club near West Palm Beach, where he said he was a member, according to a story published by Politico.
HOW DO YOU VALUE MAR-A-LAGO? How does Palm Beach County value Mar-a-Lago, other local Trump properties for taxes?

Tech billionaire Marc Andreessen lists Atherton estate for $33M
Listing comes after VC honcho’s $250M buying spree on Malibu mansions
Tech billionaire Marc Andreessen is looking to cash out of his longtime home of Atherton.
The investor behind venture capital firm a16z and his wife Laura Arrillaga-Andreessen are listing their 12,200-square-foot home in Atherton for $33.4 million, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Compass agent Mary Gullixson is marketing the home for sale with Brent Gullixson, her son and business partner. Both declined to comment on why Andreessen had decided to sell. Andreessen and Arrillaga-Andreessen also declined to comment.
The listing comes after Andreessen and his wife spent more than $250 million buying property across three enclaves in Malibu over the course of six months in 2022.
First, Andreessen bought a surfside compound for $177 million , then another down the road for $44.5 million and then a third for $34 million.

Andreessen has owned the Atherton home since 2007, when he and his wife spent $16.6 million on the 1.55-acre property, according to WSJ, which did not disclose the address.
The home was built by spec home developer Colin Whiteside in the 1990s and includes a separate guesthouse, office and studio. The primary house has five bedrooms and was recently renovated.
Across the street sits the Menlo Circus Club, a private recreational club. Last year, the property was put up for city consideration to build more multifamily and workforce housing, as part of the city’s effort to get its housing plans approved by the state, according to Almanac News .
Before that, the Andreessens were among Atherton residents who voiced opposition to Atherton’s plans to add more multifamily units — part of the plans were eventually scrapped.
If the home sells at $33.4 million, it would be one of the pricier deals in Atherton in recent months. In January, VC investor Victor Lazarte bought two parcels in Atherton for $25.4 million. Gap co-founder Doris Fisher also recently sold a 2-acre lot in Atherton for $15.5 million .

Trump Spurned by 30 Companies as He Seeks Bond in $454 Million Judgment
Donald J. Trump’s lawyers said in a court filing that he faces “insurmountable difficulties” as he tries to raise cash for the civil fraud penalty he faces in New York.
- Share full article
By Ben Protess , Maggie Haberman and Kate Christobek
Donald J. Trump’s lawyers disclosed on Monday that he had failed to secure a roughly half-billion dollar bond in his civil fraud case in New York, raising the prospect that the state could seek to freeze some of his bank accounts and seize some of his marquee properties.
The court filing, coming one week before the bond is due, suggested that the former president might soon face a financial crisis unless an appeals court comes to his rescue.
Mr. Trump has asked the appeals court to pause the $454 million judgment that a New York judge imposed on Mr. Trump in the fraud case last month, or accept a bond of only $100 million. Otherwise, the New York attorney general’s office, which brought the case, might soon move to collect from Mr. Trump.
Still, even if the higher court rejects his appeal, Mr. Trump is not entirely out of options . He might appeal to the state’s highest court, quickly sell an asset or seek help from a wealthy supporter.
Mr. Trump’s team has also left the door open to exploring a bankruptcy for corporate entities implicated in the case, according to people with knowledge of the discussions. That option, however, is politically fraught during a presidential race in which he is the presumptive Republican nominee, and for now it appears unlikely.
The judge in the civil fraud case, Arthur F. Engoron , levied the $454 million penalty and other punishments after concluding that Mr. Trump had fraudulently inflated his net worth to obtain favorable loans and other benefits. The case, brought by the New York attorney general, Letitia James, has posed a grave financial threat to Mr. Trump.
The former president has been unable to secure the full bond, his lawyers said in the court filing on Monday, calling it a “practical impossibility” despite “diligent efforts.” Those efforts included approaching about 30 companies that provide appeal bonds, and yet, the lawyers said, he has encountered “insurmountable difficulties.”
The company providing the bond would essentially promise to cover Mr. Trump’s judgment if he lost an appeal and failed to pay. In exchange, he would pledge cash and other liquid assets as collateral, and he would pay the company a fee as high as $20 million.
But Mr. Trump does not have enough liquidity to obtain the bond. The company would require Mr. Trump to pledge more than $550 million in cash and securities as collateral — a sum he simply does not have.
Although the former president boasts of his billions, his net worth is derived largely from the value of his real estate, which bond companies rarely accept as collateral. Mr. Trump has more than $350 million in cash , a recent New York Times analysis found, far short of what he needs.
He might have to post an appeal bond worth more than $454 million — possibly above $500 million, to reflect the interest he will owe — in order to prevent Ms. James from seizing his assets on March 25.
Under the law, Ms. James could have moved to collect from Mr. Trump as soon as Justice Engoron ruled, but she offered a 30-day grace period, until March 25. It is unclear whether she will provide Mr. Trump extra time or if she will move swiftly to collect. Nor is it clear whether the appellate court will rule on his plea for help before the deadline.
Mr. Trump could also seek to appeal to New York’s highest court, and it is unclear whether Ms. James will hold off on the seizure while he pursues that route.
A spokeswoman for Ms. James did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Mr. Trump has denied all wrongdoing and claimed that Ms. James and Justice Engoron, both Democrats, are out to get him.
“This is a motion to stay the unjust, unconstitutional, un-American judgment from New York Judge Arthur Engoron in a political witch hunt brought by a corrupt attorney general,” Steven Cheung, a spokesman for Mr. Trump’s campaign, said in a statement. “A bond of this size would be an abuse of the law, contradict bedrock principles of our republic, and fundamentally undermine the rule of law in New York.”
The looming deadline could not come at a worse time for Mr. Trump. He also faces four criminal indictments, including one in Manhattan that is tentatively set for trial in mid-April.
And just last week he finalized a $91.6 million bond in a defamation case he recently lost to the writer E. Jean Carroll, a costly deal that drained him of precious cash.
Mr. Trump, who obtained that bond from the insurance giant Chubb, pledged an investment account at Charles Schwab as collateral, records show. He most likely pledged more than $100 million in cash and stocks and bonds that he could sell in a hurry — investments that are now no longer available for him to use in the civil fraud case.
A nearly $500 million bond, Mr. Trump’s lawyers wrote on Monday, “is unprecedented for a private company.”
Yet Mr. Trump’s legal team “devoted a substantial amount of time, money, and effort” to finding one, according to a court filing by Alan Garten, the top lawyer at Mr. Trump’s family business.
Using four separate brokers, the lawyers approached more than two dozen companies that provide appellate bonds, including Chubb and Berkshire Hathaway, the conglomerate run for decades by Warren E. Buffett, Mr. Garten said. He added that most of the companies were either unable or unwilling to handle a bond of this size, and that none were willing to accept property as collateral.
Their best bet appeared to be Chubb, but within the past week, Chubb notified Mr. Trump’s lawyers that it, too, could not accept property as collateral.
“This presents a major obstacle,” Mr. Garten wrote.
Mr. Trump’s company has not ruled out the possibility of having the corporate entities declare bankruptcy, the people with knowledge of the discussions said. That move would automatically halt the judgment against those entities and prevent Ms. James from seizing some of the former president’s properties.
But Mr. Trump, scarred from an experience in the 1990s when some of his companies filed for bankruptcy, is likely to balk at a filing.
And even if he supported it, bankruptcy — which Mr. Trump used to describe derisively as “the b-word” — might not be a cure-all, legal experts said. Seeking court protection could trigger defaults in loans he holds, and would most likely set off litigation over whether Mr. Trump is still responsible to pay his company’s debts.
Mr. Trump’s lawyers on Monday also submitted a filing from one of his insurance brokers, Gary Giulietti, who said his team had for several weeks been “scouring the market” for a bond.
“Simply put, a bond of this size is rarely, if ever, seen,” he wrote.
Mr. Giulietti, who testified as an expert witness at the trial, also occasionally golfs and dines with Mr. Trump.
In his decision, Justice Engoron criticized his testimony, saying that in more than 20 years on the bench, he had never encountered an expert witness who “not only was a close personal friend of a party, but also had a personal financial interest in the outcome of the case.”

What will happen if trump can’t post $454m bond in his civil fraud case by monday’s deadline.

New York Attorney General Letitia James will be free to start going after Donald Trump’s prized properties should the former president fail to make the deadline to post the $454 million bond in his civil fraud case.
Trump, 77, on Monday filed papers in an appeals court case seeking to get out of having to post the bond as he fights the massive judgment from February — which accrues $112,000 in interest daily.
The presumptive Republican 2024 presidential nominee had approached over 30 firms to secure the bond — to no avail — and he’s facing “insurmountable difficulties” getting the financial backing, his attorneys wrote in the filings.
Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron ordered the hefty judgment against the real estate mogul in February after a three-month trial in which the AG’s Office argued that Trump exaggerated his net worth by billions a year on financial statements to get better loan and insurance terms.
Why does Trump have to post a $454 million bond ?
Trump has said he plans to fight Engoron’s decision, but he must either put the full judgment amount in escrow or secure a bond to show he’s good for the money if he loses his appeal.
“If you’re trying to appeal a financial penalty, the courts want to make sure if you lose, at the end of the day you can pay the penalty,” said Kevin J. O’Brien, a former prosecutor and current defense attorney in New York, adding that it was “standard procedure.”
“This is an attempt to keep appellants honest,” O’Brien explained.
“The real difficulty is the size of the judgment is so huge.”
The bond would require Trump to post 120% of what he owes with collateral — amounting to $557.5 million, according to his lawyers.
Trump previously sought to lower the bond amount to $100 million and is now seeking to get out of paying the bond altogether.
O’Brien said that if Trump can prove to the court that he is likely to ultimately win his appeal, he “might have an argument” to get the bond amount lowered.
Could Trump sell off or mortgage his properties?
Trump’s side argued that he shouldn’t be forced to sell his properties in a “fire sale” in order to come up with the cash because he’d suffer irreparable losses in selling them for cheap and would never be able to get them back at the same price if he won the ultimate appeal of the judgment.
Trump could try to take out a mortgage on any of his properties to make the massive bond — but the move wouldn’t come without a hitch, legal experts said.
He may already be “mortgaged to the hilt” and lenders could be “reluctant to do business with him” given his legal problems, financial problems and all of the “scrutiny” that is on him, said O’Brien.
Trump’s lawyers said he’d been in talks with 30 firms as he attempted to secure the whopping bond, but all the negotiations had fallen through as the companies wouldn’t accept his properties as collateral.
O’Brien said, “That’s the way it goes” and it’s “unlikely the Appellate Division is going to be moved just because he has to sell assets.”
“I don’t think he’s going to have much success” on appeal, O’Brien said. “The Appellate Division is not going to overturn Judge Engoron’s decision lightly.”
What happens if Trump doesn’t make the deadline?
If the Appellate Division, First Department, doesn’t grant Trump’s bid to pause Monday’s deadline for his bond and if he can’t come up with the money by then, James can start going after his assets — a measure that she said she won’t hesitate to use .
New York real estate lawyer Melissa Levin said that if Trump is forced to cough up the full amount by Monday, he is “going to have to start selling off his properties himself to get the rest of the money to pay the bond.”
“If he doesn’t do that, there would be nothing stopping Letitia James and New York state from asking the court to seize certain assets to pay off the judgment amount that way,” she added.
Both Levin and another New York civil lawyer, Imran Ansari, said the AG can go after Trump’s properties in the Empire State and in other places, too.
And she could go after other types of assets like bank accounts, wages, art, accounts receivable, rent on buildings, and money market accounts, Levin said.
“I believe that the AG would be able to levy on any assets of Trump and the Trump Organization, including its many real estate holdings, both within the state and outside the state, including Mar-a-Lago,” Ansari said.
“The AG can assert a lien against real property, and may file or request a property execution requesting that Trump property be seized and sold with the proceeds being used to pay off the judgment,” he added.
What Trump properties could James seize?
Real estate that Trump either owns or has a stake in includes iconic Big Apple buildings: 40 Wall St., the Trump International Hotel and Tower, Trump Park Avenue and 1290 Avenue of the Americas — of which he owns a 30% profit share.
The Trump Organization has owned the ground lease to the Trump Building at 40 Wall St. since 1995 and rents out space there, making him more of a landlord than an owner.
He has ownership stakes in parts of the Trump International Hotel and Tower at One Central Park West, including the parking garage, room service kitchens, valet booth, lobby bathrooms, a restaurant space and a single unit.
Trump’s 30% profit share in the 1290 Avenue of the Americas building runs through 2044.
Trump owns the 120-unit 502 Park Ave. building after buying the former hotel in 2001 for $115 million.
His namesake real estate holding company also owns the retail and commercial parts of Trump Tower at 724 Fifth Ave., while the ex-president owns the penthouse triplex, according to Curbed .
O’Brien said that if the AG seeks to seize assets in other states, like Mar-a-Lago in Florida, she’d have to make an application with the court where the property is located.
James going after Trump’s prized assets could launch a long legal process that would be “enormously cumbersome,” said O’Brien.
“It’s going to take a long time before Trump loses any of these properties,” the former prosecutor added.

More tickets going on sale for Cricket World Cup 2024 in NY, as resale prices near $15,000
2-minute read.
Metro area cricket fans will have the opportunity Tuesday morning to buy previously unavailable tickets for matches in the upcoming ICC Men's T20 Cricket World Cup being held in New York in June.
That'll be a relief for cricket fans eager to see the first World Cup cricket matches ever in the U.S. The price of entry for some matches has soared above $11,000 on ticket resale sites.
More T20 Cricket World Cup tickets
Tickets for the India vs. Ireland match on June 5 and the USA vs. India match on June 12 will be available to the public starting at 10 a.m. on the website set up for T20 World Cup tickets. Those matches will be held at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in East Meadow, Long Island, the 34,000-set venue currently under construction.
The matches are among 51, in both the United States and West Indies, for which tickets will be available Tuesday for the June 1-29 tournament. Eight of the 55 matches will take place on Long Island. The finals will take place in Barbados on June 29.
The price for tickets for India vs. Ireland and USA vs. India is expected to cost $60 to $70 for standard-level tickets and as high as $200 for premium-level seats.
Huge demand for India vs. Ireland, USA vs. India
Even at the premium level, those prices are more affordable than those currently on offer on ticket broker sites like StubHub where the lowest price listed for India vs. Ireland as of Monday was $301 (minus fees), while the highest was $11,316 for a Section VIP Box.
For the USA vs. India game, the lowest price was $272, while the highest was $11,458 . StubHub's $3,473 in fees would push that to $14,790, according to the site.
Chris Tetley, the head of events for the ICC, said in the announcement of the new sales: “We are delighted to have worked with our commercial partners to be able to release these additional tickets to 51 matches to ensure that we are accommodating as many fans as possible at every ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 fixture. The demand has been exceptionally strong for matches at venues across both the West Indies and USA, so we encourage fans to secure their World Cup experience as soon as possible to be part of what will be a historic event.”

T20 World Cup schedule
Twenty teams will compete in the month-long tournament, showcasing the second-most-watched sport in the world, with a global estimated fanbase of 2.5 billion people, according to the 2023 World Atlas. That compares to an estimated 3.5 billion for soccer.
The World Cup cricket combatants will include 2022 T20 champion England, 2022 runner-up Pakistan and powerhouses Australia, India and New Zealand. The USA and West Indies national teams will also participate since they are the hosts.
According to the ICC, over 3 million ticket applications were received during the initial application period in early February before the general sale began on Feb. 22. Four matches have already sold out: the June 1 opener featuring the USA vs. Canada, the highly anticipated India vs. Pakistan on June 9 , India vs. Canada on June 15, and the final in Barbados on June 29.
Along with match tickets, fans on Tuesday can choose from a range of premium private suites and individual food and beverage packages for all the matches at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium and venues across the West Indies.

Brittany and Patrick Mahomes enjoyed a courtside date at the Dallas Mavericks vs. Denver Nuggets game in Texas Sunday, and although the game took place on St. Patrick’s Day, the duo ditched green ‘fits for some pricey designer duds.
The Kansas City Chiefs WAG, 28, wore a cropped white Prada tank top ($1,850) trimmed with sparkly beads for the basketball game, pairing it with an oversized denim jacket ($2,450) and matching $1,750 elastic-waist jeans also from the Italian fashion house.

She paired the Prada look with white Gucci sneakers ($920), wearing her hair in a “half-up baby bun” in a photo she shared on her Instagram Story from hairstylist Anna Sullivan.
The mom of two sported a pink hoodie in the pic, showing off a soft makeup look with glossy pink lips.
As for Patrick, the 2024 Super Bowl champion wore some equally luxe gear for the game, matching his wife’s blue color palette in a $1,120 Louis Vuitton logo T-shirt with acid-washed jeans and logo-covered blue-and-white Louis Vuitton sneakers ($1,260).

Their NBA outing follows a more glam date for the couple, who celebrated their second wedding anniversary in style last week.
The Mahomeses — who married in an oceanfront Hawaiian ceremony in March 2022 — headed out for a romantic dinner to mark the occasion, with Brittany rocking a denim corset , leather pants and a pricey new Louis Vuitton bag.
The couple also headed to Mexico for a family vacation earlier this month, bringing their daughter, Sterling Skye , 3, and son Bronze , 1, along for some sun and fun.
Perhaps they can get some designer jerseys for their next NBA outing.
