Often sporting a more functional exterior, the interior of explorer vessels are as palatial and luxurious as their traditional superyacht counterparts. Outside you’ll find generous open decks with elegant dining and entertaining spaces, with all the luxuries you’d expect on a superyacht.  Jacuzzis, helipads and observation decks are common features found on expedition yachts for sale.

Expedition yachts are sometimes nicknamed ‘toy carriers’, as they have plenty of space to carry the tenders and water sports equipment you’ll want as you cruise exotic places. Expedition yachts allow the yacht owner to get to all corners of the world, opening up beautiful destinations otherwise difficult to reach. From the snowy landscapes and penguins of Antarctica to the coral reefs and jungles of Micronesia, an expedition yacht opens up the world for exploration.

There are a multitude of options available for expedition vessels. Above are examples of existing brokerage vessels. Other options to consider include Full Custom Builds and Semi Custom Builds. A Fully Custom Expedition yacht build is a ground up design and specification package, which will include tank testing of hull forms, 3D modeling, etc. A Semi Custom Expedition Build includes an existing hull form and common engineering package, already being used and then customizing the house styling, layout and décor.

The 80m Explorer Yacht, unnamed, is an example of a Fully Custom Explorer Build. The vessel includes float in float out wet dock that will be able to hold a 65-70 foot sport fisherman in the stern, when the sport fish is removed the tender well becomes a deep swimming pool.  She is diesel electric with Azipod drives.   The vessel has the capability of landing two helicopters and can house both helicopters in a single hangar.  The vessel also has a large tender garage that could hold multiple smaller vessels including a RIB, flats boat, jets skis and two submarines.  The vessel has accommodations for 18 guests and crew of 36.  The vessel would be commercial fit and finish on the exterior and the interior are envisioned to be built to high end cruise ship standards.

The 75m Explorer, by Admiral Shipyards is an example of a Semi Custom Build. The yacht’s exterior design, which remains unnamed, is a display of an elegant yet robust platform with generous exterior deck spaces. The expansive aft deck is designed to accommodate an Agusta Grande helicopter, complete with a storage and refueling hangar below deck.

The interior is spread across four decks and will be finished in a timeless nautical style that is finished with contemporary elements, which will be built and installed by German interio specialists, Fitz Interior. The owner, who is expected to spend prolonged period onboard, will be treated to an exclusive main deck area covering over 300 square metres with five additional guest suites on the lower deck.

Explorer yachts look a little bit different and offer extraordinary cruising potential, marking an exciting difference in the luxury yacht market for those who love an adventure on the open ocean. Luxury Mega Yacht PLANET NINE

The largest superyacht to date from the Italian Sea Group (Admiral) is the five-deck, 73.2 metre ice-class explorer mega yacht PLANET NINE which has only just been launched, early 2018.

Setting a new benchmark in her category, this full-displacement custom motor yacht features accommodation for 16 across eight spacious guest staterooms, including a 300-square-metre Master suite which covers an entire deck and comprises two cabins and a central lounge.

The upper deck has a luxurious and spacious indoor/outdoor dining area with an internet lounge and a panoramic observatory lounge. 

Other attributes include on deck Jacuzzi and elevators connecting all five decks and providing discreet crew access. The aft tender garage houses a pair of 9.75 metre Rupert Marine tenders, while the large Beach Club boasts an indulgent spa area for guests' total relaxation.

Designed by highly-awarded Tim Heywood, this superlative mega yacht has been constructed to deliver the best possible onboard experience for charter guests. With a massive volume of 2,100 GT, PLANET NINE can accommodate up to 16 guests and four crew in eight luxurious cabins, including a separate Owner's deck and a main deck VIP suite.

Catamarans aren’t always the most luxurious of vessels, but one German outfit is hoping to change that.

Ultimate Catamarans has teamed up with Italian firm Luxury Projects on a new line of multihulls designed to bring seafarers all the comforts of a superyacht. Better still, each cat is equipped with the latest green tech to ensure cleaner cruising on the high seas.

The Spaceline range comprises three models of differing sizes, including an 88-footer, a 120-footer and a 150-footer. Each vessel sports a lightweight aluminum hull that the company claims is as stable and sturdy as an SUV.

Each model is equipped with a hybrid-propulsion system comprising solar panels and batteries. It’s not dissimilar to the system featured on Silent’s range of solar-powered catamarans. The team says the cats will also be “hydrogen-ready” and could incorporate fuel-cell technology in the future.

The Spaceline 88.  Utlimate Catamarans/Luxury Projects

The Spaceline 150 is the flagship offering. A true go-anywhere vessel, it promises seven days of autonomy at sea and could eventually be fitted with an ice-class steel hull. With a volume of 640 GT, it offers an interior of roughly 4,300 square feet and an exterior of 7,500 square feet. It can sleep 12 guests across five cabins and sports a giant helipad aft that can accommodate an EC135 or even an Agusta 109. Think of it as a catamaran crossed with an explorer.

The Spaceline 120 is perhaps the most superyacht-like out of the trio. It comes with glitzy amenities, like a spa, a gym and a sundeck. The layout can be customized to each seafarer’s liking, too. As standard, though, the 3,700-square-foot interior houses five cabins. In addition, the vessel touts a transatlantic range of 3,500 nautical miles.

Billed as a pocket catamaran, the Spaceline 88 is the smallest of the three but still plenty mighty. With a volume of 270 GT, it offers nearly 2,000 square feet of interior space, four guest cabins and room for five crew. She also has a range of 2,500 nautical miles.

It’s worthwhile noting there are already a few big players creating elegant catamarans : Sunreef , Rossinavi and Silent, to name but a few. Hey, who doesn’t like a little friendly competition?

The stunning 55m ice-class expedition yacht STEEL represents our largest volume project to date and one of the most original bespoke new build projects to be created at Pendennis. Launched in early 2009, her elegant interior styling and robust exterior lines are the result of a collaboration between the yacht Owner, Pendennis and yacht designers Liebowitz & Pritchard Architecture + Yacht Design, whilst the naval architecture was completed by Burness Corlett & Partners in Southampton. Built to +100 AL Lloyds, 1a Ice Class, STEEL is also fully MCA compliant with long range capabilities. The vessel employs state-of-the-art systems, fitout, and equipment – much of it bespoke. Built primarily in steel with aluminium deckhouse and upperworks, the 700ton vessel has a rounded stern underbody which effectively aids ship stability in following seas. At anchor, four Quantum Zero-Speed stabilisers attenuate roll substantially. Exterior features include imposing high prow, functional “work deck” forward, hydraulic Rondal elevating crow’s nest, expansive sundeck, hydraulic side “beaches”, 29ft jet Owner’s tender (amongst others), active-current spa pool, sophisticated boarding systems, and sculptural rounded stern. The yacht returned to Pendennis in 2016 for minor engineering and survey works. Her hull was repainted to midnight blue, a stark contrast to her previous unique green hull.
