Sanlorenzo’s extra-cool SX superyacht

  • February 29, 2024

With a hull destined for Southeast Asia, the new SX100 is the fourth model in Sanlorenzo’s explorer-styled ‘crossover’ flybridge series, with fold-down terraces expanding the waterside experience in the beach zone. Words: Clare Mahon; Photos: Sanlorenzo & Guillaume Plisson

Sanlorenzo, SX100, SX112, SX88, SX76, Piero Lissoni, Artistic Director

The SX100 reaches 23 knots with four 800hp Volvo Penta IPS pod drives

Sanlorenzo says its SX series of yachts blurs the boundaries between flybridge and explorer-type yachts, with the X representing the ‘cross’ in crossover. The new SX100, the range’s latest model, has exterior lines by Zuccon International Project like those on the SX112, SX88 and SX76 that came before her, with reverse-angle windscreens giving a robust, explorer-yacht look.

Hull one showcases interiors by Piero Lissoni, who is also Sanlorenzo’s Artistic Director, although future SX100 owners can create or commission their own bespoke layouts and designs.

SX signatures include an enormous aft lower deck

Furthermore, the crossover doesn’t end with yacht types. A strong accent on ease of outdoor living and quick access to the water means the boundaries that divide indoors from out are blended so much that the only logical way to begin a tour of the yacht is from an outdoor space.

WATERSIDE LIVING

The main saloon is usually a yacht’s largest area and the centrepiece that sets the tone for an onboard experience. Not so aboard the SX100, where the stern deck is a huge expanse of free and open space that’s much more than a swim platform.

Sanlorenzo, SX100, SX112, SX88, SX76, Piero Lissoni, Artistic Director

Distinguished by reverse-angled windscreens, the SX series features exterior lines by Zuccon

When the space is not being used to store the 5.65m tender and water toys, it becomes an area without barriers between guests and the sea. The pieds dans l’eau effect is multiplied exponentially when, at the touch of a button, two spacious side terraces open out over the water.

An up/down platform fully aft is for getting in and out of the water and deploying toys, while a crane for launching the tender is integrated into one of the arches over the side terraces.

Sanlorenzo, SX100, SX112, SX88, SX76, Piero Lissoni, Artistic Director

Drop-down sides increase space and views, including from the beach lounge

Teak benches fold down over the mooring equipment, both concealing it and offering a very handy spot for putting on swimming fins. It’s a real shot of luxury lifestyle for those who enjoy the outdoors, whether swimming, sailing or soaking up the sun.

Lowering the terraces also opens the side views in the lower-deck lounge, which is accessed through a sliding glass door in the centre of a full-width screen of windows that are slanted at a similar angle to the SX’s iconic windscreens.

Sanlorenzo, SX100, SX112, SX88, SX76, Piero Lissoni, Artistic Director

Port view of the lower-deck ‘beach lounge’, which has fixed aft windows either side of the sliding door

Set slightly lower than the aft deck, the lounge has a red-lacquer bar to port along with chairs, coffee tables, a sofa to starboard and mirror-lined walls, so you see the water no matter which way you’re facing. And when the terraces are down, the aft deck and beach lounge become one integrated zone that can be enjoyed from dawn to dusk.

OPEN INTERIORS

The slender, ‘floating’ external staircase up to the main deck’s aft cockpit is enclosed in glass, while the same beautiful, curved glass used to encase the lower-deck lounge is used in the cockpit’s glass railings.

Sanlorenzo, SX100, SX112, SX88, SX76, Piero Lissoni, Artistic Director

The saloon includes a starboard staircase down to the lower deck and, forward, a concealed wooden staircase to the flybridge

Rather than just a gateway to the saloon, the cockpit is more of a continuation of the stern deck, with the two spaces connecting both philosophically and ergonomically. The cockpit is large enough for sun loungers and side tables due to the absence of an external staircase leading to the flybridge.

Lissoni explains the lack of a traditional feature: “It used to be that a yacht and everything aboard it had to be made by a yacht designer, but I’m not a nautical designer and I don’t want to become one. I’m an architect, and when I design a yacht, I approach it just as I would any other project, aiming to create something functional, comfortable and beautiful. Outsiders like me have changed the rules in yachting.”

Sanlorenzo, SX100, SX112, SX88, SX76, Piero Lissoni, Artistic Director

Port view of the saloon

Only a tour of the SX100’s interiors in the ‘Lissoni version’ reveals just how true that is. In his edition of the interior, the saloon is a display space for iconic design pieces arranged in a large, open space where glass, both in the form of windows and mirrored surfaces, seems to be the main building material.

Built-in pieces are limited in number and blend into the yacht’s structure while natural woods offer a subtle backdrop to an area where nothing glistens or sparkles but everything shines. Signature Lissoni elements include a steely, sculptural, spiral staircase to starboard that leads to the lower deck, while forward is a slender wooden staircase that leads to the flybridge and can be concealed behind a decorative screen.

Sanlorenzo, SX100, SX112, SX88, SX76, Piero Lissoni, Artistic Director

Stairs linking the lower and main decks

Lissoni’s approach to yacht interiors revolves around spaces that are as open and as contemporary as possible.

“I’ve never understood the ‘Lord Nelson’ approach to nautical design. Yachts are ultra-technological pieces of machinery, so why all the tradition? We’re modern people living today, so why not design an interior that reflects that. In my opinion, everything used aboard a yacht should be commercial because industrial designers are better attuned than nautical designers to how we live today.”

FORWARD MASTER

The SX100 has Lissoni’s preferred layout for yachts in this series, with the owner’s cabin fore on the main deck in a spot normally used for the helm in traditional 100ft motor yachts. Featuring an aft facing bed, the cabin has excellent visibility and textured glass is used for the closet and bathroom walls to keep things light and airy.

Sanlorenzo, SX100, SX112, SX88, SX76, Piero Lissoni, Artistic Director

The forward room on the main deck can be a master suite with an aft-facing bed or a dining room

Other options for this space on the SX100 include a formal dining room. In either layout, a port side door offers quick access to the foredeck, which has a large sofa, table and lots of sun pads that can be spread out over the mooring gear when the yacht is stationary.

The lower deck is home to three en-suite guest cabins: a double, a twin and a VIP set just opposite the galley. All cabins have interior walls set slightly off the yacht’s centreline and exterior walls that follow the curve of its hull shape. The bottom deck also has crew cabins for five and a crew mess near the galley.

Sanlorenzo, SX100, SX112, SX88, SX76, Piero Lissoni, Artistic Director

Forward of the main-deck master suite, the bow lounge has a large C-shaped sofa that can be covered by a bimini, plus a huge sunbathing area

Like previous SX yachts, the SX100 only has one helm and it’s on a table fore on the flybridge, featuring four Raymarine screens and Volvo Penta IPS joystick commands. The covered area, which includes a dining area and bar, can be left open in nice weather or sealed off by electrically operated windows and sliding doors.

The aft section of the fly is another outdoor area for sun and fun, with a glass balustrade so guests can enjoy the views from on high.

POWER & PERFORMANCE

While Lissoni always says he approaches the interiors of the SX series as if he were designing a residential building, the SX100 was born to run and has a fast displacement hull. Access to the engine room under the stern deck is from a deck hatch or a small door on the starboard side of the beach club.

Sanlorenzo, SX100, SX112, SX88, SX76, Piero Lissoni, Artistic Director

Forward view of the flybridge, which the protected helm forward

Propulsion comes from four Volvo Penta D13-IPS pods with twin counter-rotating propellers designed to improve performance, manoeuvrability and range while reducing fuel consumption, noise and vibrations. The propulsion system delivers a top speed of 23 knots and a range of 1,600nm at 10 knots, while the engine, transmission and drive have integrated helm-to-prop Electronic Vessel Control (EVC).

Lissoni’s approach has given the SX100 an unusual setup and a chic, home-like look that crosses the boundaries between residential architecture and nautical design. The continuous connection, both visual and physical, between the yacht and the environment around it crosses the divide between indoors and out.

Sanlorenzo, SX100, SX112, SX88, SX76, Piero Lissoni, Artistic Director

Asia’s first SX100 is set to arrive this summer

Add explorer looks combined with flybridge performance and you have the SX100, a crossover yacht that crosses over a lot more than just genres of yachts.

For Sale: 2022 Sanlorenzo 500Exp

  • By Jake Lamb
  • May 10, 2024

Sanlorenzo 500Exp Arrow

Sanlorenzo has launched six 500Exp superyachts since the new flagship replaced the builder’s 460Exp model. The 500Exp is a serious, MCA-compliant, bluewater-ready superyacht, built to cross oceans in luxury. HMY Yacht Sales has Arrow , a 2022 Sanlorenzo 500Exp, listed just shy of $32 million.

“ Arrow is equipped with state-of-the-art navigation and communication systems allowing you to explore the world’s most beautiful coastlines, anchor in secluded coves, and embrace the sense of freedom and serenity that the open sea offers,” HMY says. “With its steel- hull construction, this Sanlorenzo 500 Explorer Yacht is capable of transatlantic travel, and the ability to explore remote destinations while offering luxurious comfort.”

Sanlorenzo 500Exp Arrow

Owners can expect a 4,000-nautical-mile range cruising at 11 knots, though the Caterpillar C32 diesels can push this 154-foot superyacht to a reported 15-knot top speed.

The yacht foredeck is accessed via the Portuguese bridge. Unlike many yachts today, Arrow’s foredeck is primarily used for PWC and tender stowage, which helps to keep the aft decks clear for entertainment and allows for an expansive beach club. The beach club utilizes the swim platform aft and a hydraulic fold-out terrace to port. It also has a day head, a flat-screen TV, a gym and a bar area with an ice maker and a refrigerator.

Sanlorenzo 500Exp Arrow

On the main deck, the salon’s formal dining space is aft with a lounge area forward. Sliding glass doors surround the dining area on three sides, while a table insert and two spare chairs allow all 10 guests to dine together. The lounge area has a six-person sofa with additional chairs.

The cockpit entertainment space on Arrow has been outfitted to stow a submersible, further cementing this 500Exp’s status as an explorer superyacht.

Sanlorenzo 500Exp Arrow

The sun deck is pure entertainment. Forward, a jacuzzi tub sits on the centerline and is flanked by lounge pads. Amidships, under the hardtop, is an L-shaped settee and an alfresco dining space for 10. Beyond the hardtop, the after section is used for sunning with four chaise-style lounge chairs.

The bridge deck has the pilothouse forward with the captain’s cabin amidships and the skylounge aft. The skylounge has an aft-facing, U-shaped settee and a flat-screen TV to catch the big game. Abaft the skylounge is an aft deck, which is partially shaded by the sun deck overhang and a sun shade.

Sanlorenzo 500Exp Arrow

After a long day in the sun and sea, riding in the submersible or the helicopter, retire to one of five staterooms. Owners will enjoy the on-deck master suite and its king berth. This suite takes full advantage of the superyacht’s 31-foot, 5-inch beam by keeping the living space aft and having the en suite head forward. A hydraulic terrace is to starboard for breakfast with a view. Four additional staterooms that sleep up to eight are belowdecks.

Where is Arrow located? The yacht is currently lying in St. Maarten,

New to Market and the only SX88 available for immediate delivery.

Intent to push the boundaries of traditional yacht design, Sanlorenzo literally brought on board modern design principles of home living with the SX line, whose principal design aesthetic is that of a megayacht that feels like an open loft. A central component to the SX88’s design was a continuous flow from stern to bow, replete with an open kitchen adjacent to the formal dining area, a main living area with wide glass walls overlooking the sea and a seamless transition from interior to exterior.

Aft of the main-deck living area, and down five easily negotiated steps, the open cockpit/beach club area accommodates a multitude of toys, including a tender, jet ski and sea bobs. The crane to move these watercrafts is elegantly disguised in the prolonged profile of the handrail, with no visual disturbance to the SX88’s eye-catching profile. Once the watercrafts have been effortlessly deployed, the wide stern area offers a best-in-class 323-square-feet of beach club space, shaded by umbrellas and furnished to enjoy life to the finest—at the water's edge.

A testament to the SX88’s megayacht DNA, the only steering position is on the upper deck, with a reverse angled windshield and 9-foot-long side windows that can be lowered completely, making you one with your surroundings in a superb lounge area. A dedicated lounging area aft is left open to the elements yielding stunning views and alfresco dining.

Sanlorenzo 50Steel Superyacht

Developed in partnership with Siemens Energy, the modular reformer fuel cell system first transforms biomethanol, a.k.a. green methanol , into hydrogen and then into clean electrical energy, meaning no hydrogen needs to be stored on board. The setup can generate up to 100kW, with the engines and diesel generators turned off. Sanlorenzo estimates the system will cover about 90 percent of the typical usage time of a superyacht with zero emissions. In terms of grunt, the 50Steel will be powered by MAN engines that enable a max speed of 16 knots, a cruising speed of 12.5 knots, and a range of 4,000 nautical miles at 11 knots.

In addition, the new 50Steel will feature an industry-first Hidden Engine Room (HER) that increases the amount of living space while keeping the yacht under 500 GT. The engine room, which typically covers two levels, has been cleverly integrated into the under lower deck with the propulsion systems spread out horizontally. The HER has created more square footage on the lower deck in which Sanlorenzo has added an Ocean Lounge.

The exterior decks are nothing to sneeze at, either. At the aft, the sprawling beach club is equipped with a striking pool and three fold-out terraces that open to create more than 1,600 square feet of space at anchor. A second pool can be found on the sundeck.

The first 50Steel will be delivered this July.

Sanlorenzo Yachts For Sale

Since 1958, Sanlorenzo has developed into a boutique builder firmly placed in the yachting industry, building only a limited number of made-to-measure units per year. With three facilities in Italy (La Spezia,  Viareggio and Massa) the shipyard satisfies only 50 customers a year due to the time the builders invest into creating each individial and customised yacht. In more than half century the shipyard has built over 1,000 yachts and is ranked among the top 20 builders of yachts over 24 metres. Here are a selection of these custom used yachts for sale built by one of Italy's leading yards, Sanlorenzo.

The Sanlorenzo shipyard has been building high quality motor yachts since 1958. It is a boutique firm in the yachting industry, building only a limited number of made to measure units per year. Each yacht is designed and produced according to the specific requests, style, and desires of the individual owner.

The shipyard's headquarters are located in Ameglia. The yachts divisions are also based in Viareggio and in Massa, while the production of superyachts is located in the La Spezia shipyard.

Building a Sanlorenzo takes time and passion; that's why the shipyard can satisfy only 50 customers a year. In more than half century the shipyard has built about 1,000 yachts.

Over a period of eight years, Sanlorenzo has climbed the global order book ranking. Today, Sanlorenzo ranks at the first positions among the top 20 builders of yachts over 24m.

Sanlorenzo ceo massimo perotti’s innovative, strategic italian style.

Massimo Perotti is all smiles, understandably so as Sanlorenzo achieves milestone after milestone, ... [+] but his work as Chairman and CEO of Sanlorenzo Group keeps him focused on the future of yachting. For Sanlorenzo, that embraces sustainability, luxury, and fine Italian craftsmanship, along with staying in the industry forefront of technology and style.

Whether greeting clients, friends, brokers and press at the St. Katharine Docks in central London, christening the first Sanlorenzo yacht ever to turn green methanol into energy, or explaining the connections between art and Sanlorenzo Yachts at La Biennale di Venezia, Cav. Massimo Perotti, Chairman and CEO of Sanlorenzo Group , engages his audience with passion.

Perotti enthusiastically describes the future of yachting at Sanlorenzo as one without compromise regarding luxury and sustainability. Both are proving important factors for a growing number of buyers new to yachting. Sanlorenzo is “a playground for design choices,” Perotti happily states, explaining that they like to get each family involved with design to have fun with it in a purpose-driven build offering more customization than any other yacht brand.

Perotti is proud of the interaction Sanlorenzo encourages with new buyers, getting them to ask questions, express opinions, share visions, and forge relationships that ultimately shape the build of a yacht, truly making them feel at home on the sea. The ideal Sanlorenzo build is one that takes owners to their dream destinations, in comfort, style, and safety, making memories steeped in onboard experiences.

Sanlorenzo In The UK: Exclusive Opportunity at St. Katharine Docks

Enjoying a number of newsworthy projects from Sanlorenzo's team, Chairman and CEO Cav. Massimo ... [+] Perotti has much to celebrate. Here, the Sanlorenzo 90A prepared for an immersive VIP experience by Sanlorenzo UK at London's St. Katharine Docks in March, 2024.

From March 11-24 of this year, Perotti and Sanlorenzo Yachts UK brought their Sanlorenzo 90A to St. Katharine docks in Southampton, presenting a great opportunity for their burgeoning British customer aficionados to experience the brand in a classic London setting. The 28-meter asymmetric customized build entertained visitors with light, modern interiors displaying wood, marble, and fabric textures in dignified interiors by Bernardo Zuccon.

Iconic images of the yacht sailing the Thames River underscored the brand’s quality and innovation. One unique feature involved moving the port side deck on the 90A to the upper deck, delivering a more spacious salon with larger interior volume and a second salon above. This 24-meter design sleeps eight guests, and has a cruising speed of 25 knots, with an 1100 nm range at eco cruising speed of 10 knots.

Launching the 50Steel Fuel Cell Superyacht Almax at La Spezia

Launch of the 50Steel Almax at the La Spezia yard announced in a May 18 press release revealed the ... [+] staggered, five-deck, first-of-its-kind Reformer-Fuel Cell system that turns green methanol into hydrogen, then into energy to power the yacht's hotel load with zero emissions.

Announced in a press release May 18 th , Sanlorenzo proudly raised the bar on sustainability in superyachts with the first unit of the 50Steel , Almax, at their La Spezia yard. The technology achievement marked the world’s first superyacht to feature the Reformer-Fuel Cell system, developed in collaboration with Siemens Energy . Perotti explained that the yacht transforms green methanol into hydrogen, then into electrical energy to power the yacht, eliminating the need for storing large amounts of hydrogen on board to power all of the yacht’s hotel systems.

The exclusive event commemorating the launch of the world's first Reformer-Fuel Cell powered yacht ... [+] embodies Sanlorenzo's pioneering spirit, according to Sanlorenzo Chairman and CEO Cav. Massimo Perotti.

Perotti stated, “With the launch of the 50Steel, Sanlorenzo celebrates a fundamental milestone in its history, in the spirit of innovation and sustainability. The new line of superyachts embodies the pioneering spirit and passion for challenges that have always guided us in the design and construction of our fleet.”

The Reformer-Fuel Cell system powers the ship to a maximum of 100kW with propulsion engines and diesel generators turned off for completely carbon-neutral operation. Covering about 90 percent of the typical usage time of a superyacht with zero emissions, it provides a significant amount of time for owners to enjoy the yacht at anchor while consuming no diesel fuel.

Another innovative feature on the first unit of Sanlorenzo's 50 Steel Almax is the HER, the ... [+] Horizontal Engine Room, allowing for a more spacious, staggered deck design with more head room.

Innovative interior architecture disrupts traditional yacht design through five uniquely staggered decks. The yacht also provides four guest cabins plus an owner’s suite, pools on both the beach club and the sun deck, and a 150-square-meter beach club when all three fold-out terraces are opened. Additionally, the yacht introduces the HER, Horizontal Engine Room, layout that allows a split level with between 2.1 and 3.35 meters of head room.

Sanlorenzo Bluegame Division’s Hydrogen-Powered America’s Cup Chase Boats

The Bluegame BGHSV, Hydrogen Support Vessel, is the answer to current America's Cup champion Team ... [+] Emirates New Zealand request that each team build at least two 10+ meter hydrogen powered foiling chase boats capable of no less than 170 nm range at 25 knots with a top speed of 50 knots. This flying boat will assist the New York Yacht Club American Magic race boat during the 37th America's Cup in Barcelona this August through October.

Sustainability is more than a commitment for Sanlorenzo and Bluegame . The development of hydrogen-powered chase boats at this year’s America’s Cup was a challenge accepted and delivered by an experienced team of hand selected experts.

Described by Perotti as “an extreme project that required two years of development,” he noted that the launch of the first unit for the America’s Cup boat American Magic in March, and the second hull for the French Orient Express team “represents a further step forward in the development of vessels at the highest level of technology and sustainability.”

The Bluegame BGHSV composite structures from Gurit Engineering combine with foils structure by Doug ... [+] Schickler and Davide Tagliapietra to create what Santella says is the most technically advanced boat sailing in the world today.

Able to reach speeds of 50 knots with a 180-mile range, powered solely by hydrogen, the success of the Bluegame project will lead to a BGH hydrogen hybrid multihull in 2026 that promises 80 miles of zero-emission navigation, Perotti informed, adding, “There is no doubt that the project will influence both the innovative solutions that will benefit future product ranges offered by the Sanlorenzo Group, as well as the entire mobility industry.”

Working With Sanlorenzo Founder Giovanni Jannetti

When Perotti took over the company from Sanlorenzo founder Giovanni Jannetti , he agreed to spend the first year learning about Sanlorenzo under Jannetti’s tutelage. Of that time, Perotti acknowledges, “The year I worked alongside Giovanni Jannetti was perhaps the toughest year of my life, but also the one in which I learned the most, starting from the realization that while as a manager you are part of a team, as an entrepreneur you are alone, and this changes the rules of the game.”

Jannetti’s influence continues to guide the shipyard in its approach to luxury yachting, from the understanding of what it means to be an entrepreneur and from the viewpoint of a craftsman who does things with love, passion, and, above all, style. “Giovanni taught us to be the tailors of yachting, to give our best for extraordinary and tailor-made products, never forgetting that our goal is the joy and satisfaction of the customer.”

While there may be many things Jannetti would not even begin to understand about today’s industry operations, his quintessential style remains a pillar of Sanlorenzo Yachts. Perotti summarizes Jannetti’s valuable advice, confirming, “His true gentlemanly demeanor, rich in understatement, which is not easy to find in yachting where grandeur is often the norm, remains a great source of inspiration for me and all Sanlorenzo managers to this day.”

Italian Insight, Just For Fun

A master at mixing business with pleasure, Perotti makes room for both. From black tie to to deck ... [+] shoes, he seamlessly transitions from one to the other, always ready for the next challenge.

Asking Perotti about his preferences outside of yachting, there are some fun and interesting answers to less pressing questions, mixing business with pleasure.

Arrabbiata or Carbonara? “Arrabbiata,” Perotti responded assuredly, adding “A bit of spice is needed in life and in business.” Mmmmm. San Marzano tomatoes spiced with fresh cayenne peppers, Italian parsley, a few basil leaves, and cloves of garlic. Perfection!

Panna Cotta or Gelato? His response followed, “Gelato: it’s a symbol of the success of Italian craftsmanship to be enjoyed in every situation.” It’s hard to find an area of industry where Italians have not excelled in delivering fine craftsmanship, be it yachts, automobiles, fashion, or frozen desserts.

Barolo or Vermentino? Perotti’s firm reply announced, “Barolo! I certainly can’t deny my Piedmontese origins,” which is totally understandable considering that wines made from Nebbiolo grapes are notoriously difficult to cultivate, delivering one of the most age-worthy sips earning highly collectible status, a big price tag, and great rewards in the glass.

Finally, when asked whether he preferred Picasso or Titian, he responded thoughtfully, “Tiziano, because his workshop, managed with an approach that today we would call entrepreneurial, managed to produce an astonishing quantity of works, bringing Italian style throughout Europe, thanks to a flexible, pragmatic, and adaptable organization tailored to the needs of the clientele.”

Deep Dive - Sanlorenzo

Weigh anchor.

sanlorenzo big yacht

Executive summary

As we speak, there’s a lot of noise surrounding the outlook for luxury companies, as we’ve now fully lapped the post-COVID tailwinds. We reiterate our long-term stance: investors should make a clear distinction between “aspirational luxury” and “true luxury”.

One of the most attractive areas for getting exposure to long-lasting luxury is the high-end yachting segment. The Italy-based Sanlorenzo (SL), the world’s leading monobrand luxury yacht manufacturer, has clearly delivered on - or better: far exceeded - its 2019 IPO promises.

Since December 2019, it’s delivered a 25.9% total shareholder CAGR, leading to a market cap of close to 1.5 billion EUR. Nonetheless, SL’s valuation multiple has derated notably over the last two and a half years, despite ever-increasing margins, ROIC, and net financial position.

Exhibit I (source: The Compounding Tortoise)

sanlorenzo big yacht

Its strategy is built to last and encompasses the following four key pillars:

Exclusivity, with a limited number of yachts produced each year and for each segment. SL is laser-focused on profitability, not on mass-production that could dilute its brand equity. SL currently serves its customers through Bluegame (13-23 meter, manufactured in the Ameglia shipyard), Yacht (24-40 meter, constructed in Ameglia, Viareggio, and Massa), and Superyacht (40-73 meter with production in La Spezia). Exhibit II breaks down the number of units sold in each division.

Exhibit II (source: The Compounding Tortoise)

sanlorenzo big yacht

Keeping made-to-measure tradition intact. SL’s high level of customization of interior and exterior accessories and technology, not only for yachts over 40m, but also for yachts between 24m and 40m, sets it apart from the rest of the luxury sailing world. Even for its smaller sport utility models, the backlog visibility remains unparalled, highlighting the strong appeal to a variety of customers.

Expanding into adjacent areas, while sticking to its monobrand strategy for the core “Yacht” and “Superyacht” segment. In 2018, it acquired Bluegame, thereby entering the composite sport utility yacht segment. Last year, it signed a memorandum of understanding with Nautor Swan, which is positioned at the high-end of sailing yachting. Searching for unique satellite brands to tap more potential clients will broaden the income streams.

Being at the forefront of sustainability. In fact, just recently, SL presented the 50Steel, which is the world's first Superyacht to be accommodated with the modular Reformer - Fuel Cell system, developed in collaboration with Siemens Energy. This piece of innovation will transform green methanol into hydrogen and then into electrical energy to support the yacht’s hotel systems (without the need of storing hydrogen on board).

Exhibit III (source: Lengers)

sanlorenzo big yacht

As we summarize the investment case for SL, the expected return potential will be driven by:

high single-digit CAGR for “Shipbuilding” revenues, i.e. net revenue new yachts (NRNY);

progressive increase of profitability, albeit at a slower pace than over the past years due to a mix shift towards larger yachts that typically boast lower margins than SL’s legacy “Yachts”;

capital-light business model with negative working capital, and the untapped capacity that stems from previously executed growth CAPEX yet to be fully utilized;

flexible cost structure with roughly 20% of total costs being fixed

optionality to enter “Refit” which is characterized by larger upfront CAPEX but with above-average margins (both in terms of EBITDA as well as underlying/recurring maintenance-based NOPAT);

strong net financial position that is yielding higher interest income. Quite ironically, that income alone could easily cover some M&A to further vertically integrate its suppliers;

rigorous dividend policy, given that in a steady-state, SL is flush with cash (>140m EUR annual FCF generation by FY27);

current >55% ROIC and >30% ROIIC, which demonstrate the intrinsic CAPEX efficiency and elevated economic profit generation (even when accounting for the portion of outsourcing (e.g. naval carpentry services, turnkey furnishings, typically 33% of total NRNY));

prudent capital allocation, under the stewardship of CEO and majority shareholder Massimo Perotti (now owning >60% of total float);

a potential re-rating towards to multiples it traded at in December 2019 (IPO)

We’ll cover the following topics:

Track record - a rich corporate history

Recent financial performance

Backlog post-COVID-19

Industry backdrop and SL’s positioning

Cash flow performance and capital allocation

Recent cash performance

Base valuation model

Risks and uncertainties

Without further ado, let’s weigh anchor (note: we’ll highlight The Italian Sea Group in a separate note, as it’s not fully comparable with SL). For additional background information (it’s impossible to highlight every company’s aspect in a deep dive).

Sanlorenzo: Underpromise and Overdeliver

Sanlorenzo: Underpromise and Overdeliver

Notes from Our Call with This High-Quality Compounder

Notes from Our Call with This High-Quality Compounder

SL’s roots can be traced back to 1958, when Italian yacht builder Giovanni Jannetti established the Cantiere Navali San Lorenzo shipyard in Viareggio. Over the course of 50 years, the company has built a strong reputation for top-notch quality, dependability, and enduring sophistication.

The shipyard debuted the SL57 model in 1985, which was its first fiberglass yacht. Larger composite models were introduced in the ensuing years, until Sanlorenzo made its debut in the superyacht market in 1995 with the introduction of the first 30-meter SL100.

In 2005, Sanlorenzo reached a significant milestone when Massimo Perotti (the current CEO and chairman) acquired a majority shareholding from Janetti, marking a change in ownership. Under Perotti’s stewardship, the company navigated through the challenges of the Financial Crisis and experienced significant growth. The growth has been remarkable and consistent compared to some of its larger direct peers, and shows no signs of slowing down.

Exhibit IV (source: Sanlorenzo presentation)

sanlorenzo big yacht

It’s clear that mr. Perotti truly lives and breathes Sanlorenzo:

I always try to remember Janetti’s way of doing business, and that’s a key-point in the heart of Sanlorenzo's branding. I learnt from Jannetti the philosophy “tradition and innovation” and I improved the product by technical innovation and design, always without forgetting the tradition of the brand throughout the years.

MORAM

Sanlorenzo – $SL.MI

Sanlorenzo in vestment thesis in a nutshell.

SanLorenzo ( $SL.MI ) is an Italian company dedicated to the designing and manufacturing of custom-made luxury yachts. SanLorenzo is specialized in the segment of 30-40 meters in length in which they have been the global leaders during the last decade. SL has been expanding its range of yachts continuously, competing in the yachts segment over 40 meters (the most lucrative one).

Since the IPO in 2019, SL has delivered impressive growth with improving margins favored by the tailwinds of the strength of the sector which up to this moment has not been affected by the possible recession. On top of that, the company has great revenue visibility for the following years thanks to its massive backlog. SanLorenzo capacity is fully booked until 2027.

SanLorenzo is an owner-operator company led by the CEO with more than 60% of the shares, a repurchasing program in progress, and the perspective of increasing sales by a large double-digit with a further expansion on margins and diversification of revenue streams.

On 30 th September, with a net cash position of 91.9 million with a gross backlog of 1,651 million, it is well positioned to capture the booming moment of the yacht industry. Currently, their market capitalization is around 1,300 million euros.

Sanlorenzo History

SanLorenzo started its operations in 1958 manufacturing high-end motor yachts in La Spezia. Since its beginnings, the company has built only a limited number of made-to-measure and fully customized yachts per year for sophisticated clients.

In 2005, Massimo Perotti, the CEO, Chairman, and maximum shareholder with 60.82% of shares, acquired San Lorenzo and took the company to another level. Since he took charge, the company has continuously grown and invested in the development of new yacht lines (SD, SX, SP) and segments (superyachts (+40 mt yachts) and sportive yachts (Bluegame)).

In 2007, they inaugurated a second office in Viareggio, starting the production of superyachts. Nine years later, a new office was opened in La Spezia dedicated to the production of metal superyachts.During the great financial crisis, the company showed the strength of its business model, maintaining the revenues in a context in which many of its competitors were forced to shut down.

San Lorenzo revenue and EBITDA

This is even more impressive if we talk about the magnitude of the financial crisis for the sector, in which the sales of nautical products dropped from 6.2 billion euros in 2008 to 250,000 million in 2014, a 94% decrease.

In December 2019, in the context of the high demand for luxury yachts and with many opportunities ahead, the company went public. With this funding, the company has invested in:

  • Increasing their operating capacity.
  • Acquiring companies to ensure the highest quality in their value chain.
  • Increase the portfolio of yachts, with a focus on increasing the length of the yachts and sustainability.

Since Mr. Perotti acquired the company, the evolution of the top line was fantastic, compounding at a 17.9% CAGR between 2004 and 2021, with accelerated growth during the last years derived from the strength of the luxury yacht segment.

Sanlorenzo Business Model

SanLorenzo is an Italian shipyard dedicated to the design and production of customized high-end yachts. Due to the nature of the company, around 70 yachts will be delivered in 2022, this number has increased from 32 in 2017 and will continue to increase thanks to the CAPEX investment during the last years.

They are the global leaders in the 30-40 meters yachts, which constitute their main revenue contributor, with a market share of around 18% for yachts of this length. Moreover, they have two other divisions that expand their range upwards and down in length (Superyacht and Bluegame). The portfolio of the three segments has been expanded to satisfy different needs and to adapt to market trends.

When selling the yachts, the company sells directly (90% of sales) and through brokers (10%) which means a low percentage compared to some competitors like Benetti  is sold through dealers. Even if this supposes a bigger effort by the company, they are comfortable with this and according to the US experience (we will develop this point later), they will continue with this sales strategy.

An important remark of the business model is the flexibility in the cost structure; with 2,600 people working on the activities of the group, only 580 are directly employed by SanLorenzo. Although most of the steps in the value chain that involves quality are internally produced and the company has a clear route to being more vertically integrated through partnerships and minority equity investments, there is also a part that relies on suppliers. In fact, the company counts 1,500 suppliers.

Due to the nature of the company, SL has very efficient working capital management, with a structural negative Net Working Capital. This is thanks to the advanced payments realized by the customers as the shipyard reaches the agreed milestones, the limited inventories, and the power SL has to establish the terms of payment on their suppliers. This management efficiency provoked great cash-flow generation during the last years, especially in 2022.

To manage the increase in the price of raw materials, the company has a clause by which they can ask customers for an increase in price after 2023 if inflation is higher than expected, the customer has the chance to cancel the contract. Up to this moment, the company has perfectly managed this situation, transferring the increase in prices plus a margin to their clients which is translated into higher margins. Moreover, they have a fixed contract with their main supplier for the next three/ four years, so the inflation in the inputs is being well resolved.

Business lines and geography

Due to the increase in the LOA of their yachts and the great market demand, the company is increasing its visibility for the next years, making it even more resilient to turndowns. As explained since the IPO, SanLorenzo has a clear strategy to enlarge the average boat length and develop the APAC and Americas markets where they anticipate the increase in the number of UHNWI will concentrate. As TISG, they have also detected the will of clients for larger boats.

Sanlorenzo yacht deliveries

In more detail, the divisions of the company are the following:

The flagship division of the group and the most developed segment as it covers a great diversity of yachts. The length of these yachts goes from 24 to 40 meters.

SL Range: The range includes six models (SL78, SL86, SL90A, SL96A, SL106A, SL120A) with lengths from 24 to 38 meters. It´s the historical range of SanLorenzo.

SD Range: SD90, SD96, SD118 and SD126. The series offers models in composite material from 28 to 38 meters in length. Launched in 2007.

SX Range: SX76, SX88, and SX112. SX line is a revolutionary project that covers a new and transversal market segment. It´s between the SL and SD lines. Launched in 2017.

SP Range: It is the newest division and is focused on efficient consumption. It was launched in 2022.

Asymmetric models of the SL and SD lines are the segment’s main drivers of revenue growth within the Yacht segment.

Superyachts

We talk about Superyachts for boats over 40 meters. They are fully made to measure. 2021 was their best year in this division, delivering seven superyachts. At the beginning of the year, they had 23 of these vessels under construction (assuming six deliveries per year, they have filled out all the orders until 2026. This information comes also from management discussion).

Alloy Range: Alloy. It includes a 44 meters yacht fully in aluminum. Launched in 2007.

Steel Range: 52Steel, 57Steel, 64Steel, 68/73Steel. Most of the sales of superyachts come from this range which has a length between 52 and 72 meters. Launched in 2010

Explorer Range: 500Exp. 47 meters. Launched in 2015

X-Space: X-Space will be launched in 2023 (495GT). They have already signed six contracts for this line. It is a “small” superyacht.

This is the newest division and the one focused on smaller yachts. This segment is the only one not sold under the SanLorenzo brand. The growth of the division has been exponential.

BG 2018, 42-72 feet (13-22 m). Most affordable and smallest boat. It includes walk-around yachts.

BGX  2019, 60-70 feet (18-21m). Introduced in 2019. It includes two models (BGX60 and BGX 70). It takes the SX range of Yachts to a smaller scale.

BGM 2023, 75 feet. It will be launched next year and already has one sale.

*Bluegame started its operations in 2018

Here, we see one of the main drawbacks of the thesis. We believe that larger yachts mean larger margins. Although it´s true that the superyachts are each time larger and that the Net Revenues from new yachts in 2019 were 150M and for the nine months of 2022 are 138M, which means a surely increase for the year-end, this increase is not as great as in the other divisions. One of the company’s objectives is to strengthen this division, but they are sold out until 2026/2027. So, we will have to look carefully at the evolution of sales.

We guess that Superyachts do not account for a larger share of revenues for the lack of operating capacity. They are making a considerable investment to increase the operating capacity during the last quarters. We will follow how these acquisitions are integrated and the rapidness with which they can start their operations, and what they mean in terms of manufacturing capacity for Superyachts.

The company targets a sales distribution of around 50% in Europe and the rest shared by the Americas and APAC, plus some residual from MEA.

By regions, the % sales of SanLorenzo were:

The main highlight of the table is the large increase in the Americas. This is mainly driven by the opening of a direct distributor in this area and the highest growth in the number of UNHWI in the Americas.

Apart from the Americas market, SanLorenzo is focused on developing and exploiting the APAC market. One target for this region is to make the Bluegame division stronger in which they see a big potential. Therefore, it is probable to see them establish a direct seller as they did with the US. When we talk about APAC, we are referring mainly to Hong Kong because in mainland China there is a 50% tax on luxury products, and 0% in HK.

Production activities are carried out at four shipyards within about 50 kilometers radius at the heart of the Italian nautical sector which ensures qualified personnel and facilitates good operation through the value chain between the different facilities:

  • Dedicated to the outfitting of yachts of less than 100 feet(≈30 meters) in the Yacht and Bluegame division.
  • La Spezia. This facility is dedicated to the outfitting of superyachts.
  • Development of new models and production of semi-finished products for outfitting the Yacht division.
  • Used to outfit larger Yachts +100 feet and some superyachts

According to management discussion and the diverse conferences and presentations, to cement future solid growth, the company has developed a plan that we can sum up in the next points:

  • Increase the production capacity. During the IPO process, the CEO targeted an increase in revenues by around 8-9% per year. But reality has been much more favorable and to face this expansion, the company needs further production capacity. As an example of this point, they have added over 10,000 sqm of production areas during Q2-Q3 and in Q4 there have been further acquisitions. According to the management, 2023’s budget can be covered with 90% of the production capacity, which does not offer a lot of margin for further revenue growth.
  • Focus on the higher length of yachts and portfolio expansion. As we have already commented, SanLorenzo as well as other competitors have observed a strong increase in the demand for yachts of larger lengths. A big proof of it is that they have already sold out all the superyachts until 2026/2027. There is still a price gap to Nordic builders in superyachts in terms of euros paid per gross tonnage that SL is closing. The increase in the average length would improve the margin contribution and ensure a higher coverage of the backlog. Nevertheless, they are not accomplishing it. According to the information retrieved from articles Boat International Global Order Book, the average length in meters of the yachts was 35,9 in 2020 and 35,8 in 2022. Again, they have been investing to have the operating capacity to house the production of superyachts.
  • Develop SanLorenzo services. What they call Timeless should give them a more recurrent revenue stream with higher margins. By now, we don´t know much about the strategy to follow and the financial impact it will have.
  • SanLorenzo academy was launched in 2018 to ensure the quality and quantity of personnel. (80-100 target graduates per year)
  • Timeless : Refit, restyle, and lifetime care.
  • Leasing/ Financing
  • Charter fleet program : SL wants to establish the first single-brand charter program in the yachting sector. This is a fleet to rent, usually per week. As the company has commented to us, it will be a fee-based business in which SanLorenzo will act as an intermediary between SanLorenzo yacht owners willing to rent out and people willing to rent them. Financial targets will be disclosed on 14 th What we like about this program is that it does not use production capacity does not involve inventory risk and can earn good margins. At the end of 2022, they acquired Equinox, a company specialised in chartering services.
  • Sustainability : According to the management, it will be one of the central points in SanLorenzo’s strategy for 2030 together with technology development. It is developing innovative sustainable solutions with Siemens for the generation of electricity on board a 50-meter Superyacht and with Rolls-Royce to combine this onboard electricity generation with methanol also in the Superyacht division.
  • Develop Americas and APAC.  Americas and APAC will be in the near future the geographic areas with more UHNWI and thus, with more sales potential for the company. They have already attacked the Americas market with a subsidiary and the result has been a 30.4% increase in sales in the first nine months of 2022 in comparison to the same period in 2021. APAC is well positioned to be a main location of the yacht sector due to the large coastline and the higher rate of growth of these economies. During the next few months, the company will open a direct distributor in APAC.

We will be closely following the next It will conference on 14 th March, where they will disclose the business plan for the next years (23-25). Here, we would like to know more about the economics of the Charter program, the plan for the expansion of the operating capacity, and how this relates to the Superyacht division. It would be also interesting to know the plan for the refit division.

Sector & competitors

The evolution of the industry and thus of SanLorenzo is closely tied to the variation in the number of UHNWI (net wealth above USD 50 million) and the rate of UHNWI that own a luxury yacht (penetration rate).

UHNWI Evolution

During the last decade, the number of UHWNI has sharply increased from 98,700 in 2012 to 264,200 in 2021 (Boat International). Right now, there is a penetration rate of around 4,5%.

According to the Credit Suisse Global Wealth Report 2022, it is expected an average annual increase of around 24,000 new UHNWI per year (2021-2026). Thus, there will be around 385,000 UHNWI for 2026.

If we focus on UHNWI, the projections of the Credit Suisse Global Wealth report, the data is the following:

sanlorenzo big yacht

Visually, we can observe how North America will continue to be the clear land where more UHNWI exists, with the sharp increase of China, which will surpass Europe.

Penetration rate

The penetration of the yacht industry is only of approx. 4,5%. After covid, this rate has increased by a percentage point. This is a big increment, although there is still room for a further increase as we believe that the trend of demanding more peaceful and relaxed holidays will persist on time even after the post-covid effect.

According to some managements such as Azimut-Benetti, TISG, or SL, UHNWI are looking for the privacy, tranquillity, and security of being able to spend a relaxing time without worries. This is bringing so much demand from first-time buyers. However, it is a challenge for the sector to maintain the level of attraction and take care of new clients.

In this new generation of customers, we see younger clients demanding sustainable yachts with the same demand for exclusiveness and uniqueness. Each time the decision to buy a yacht relies more on a family in contrast with a one-man decision that was more common in the past.

Competitors

In the luxury yacht industry, most of the players develop their operations on a worldwide basis. Thus, some of the competitors of SanLorenzo are the following:

sanlorenzo big yacht

For 2022, 1,203 yachts were in production, this is a 17.5% increase compared to the 1,024 projects in 2021.

During the period between 2012 and 2018, the number of shipyards delivering superyachts declined from 107 to 59 (-45%). The shut down in shipyards was even more accused in the US. This is another reason why all the analyzed competitors see big opportunities here.

In the superyacht segment, there is an increasing concentration in the number of shipyards that can build a yacht of this measure. We consider that this market trend will continue due to the barriers to entry of the industry and the probable disappearance of the weaker shipyards unable to manufacture at the needed scale.

For +55 meters there is a very limited offer and a very high demand for UHNWI. So, if SL can strengthen this division, we could see further increases in prices and thus in margins. According to TISG management, demand is 3x the production capacity.

Some trends to mention in the luxury yacht industry are the following:

According to BOAT International, “there is a growing domination of semi-custom yachts, which are getting bigger all the time, as well as the record low number of ´spec´ projects (manufacturing a yacht without having a customer but with the expectation of finding one when work is completed). It speaks to an impatient superyacht client base that wants boats as soon as possible”.

We see that checking also at the information provided by competitors like TISG and Azimut-Benetti. The three companies have plans to expand their operating capacity and integrate vertically the value chain.

The luxury yachting sector suffered a strong crisis in 2008 after a booming expansion in the previous years. We could be facing the same scenario nowadays. If this occurred, SL is well positioned to surpass it thanks to the sound backlog and balance sheet. It could also open the opportunity to acquire other businesses.

Structurally, the industry has high entry barriers due to the high investment necessary to start operations and the great operational scale needed to make it profitable, the difficulty to own operating capacity, and the knowledge and trust needed from high-wealth clients to make such a large buy.

There is an increase in the price paid by customers per gross tonnage (GT). In 2019, in Italy, that amount averaged around EUR30,000 to EUR34,000 GT for an average shipyard. Sanlorenzo was already around EUR40,000 per GT. The best Dutch and Germans shipyard went around EUR54,000 to EUR56,000 per GT. We do not have exact numbers for 2022 but we are sure there has been an increase and we think SanLorenzo could have signed contracts at around 45,000-47,000 euros per GT for the next years, closing the gap with its competitors.

Management Team

SanLorenzo’s management outstands by its experience. We would like to focus on Massimo Perotti (62 years old) who is the CEO and maximum shareholder (with 60.88% of the shares).

Since he was 24, he has been linked to the yacht industry, working for Azimut Benetti. At the age of 27, he was appointed executive. In the early 1990s, he joined the board of directors and in 1996 he became the CEO of the main Azimut division. The total remuneration for 2021 was 1.8 million.

sanlorenzo big yacht

Other important people on the management team in the company are:

Marco Viti (Executive Director): He has been working for SanLorenzo since 1992. He was the vice chairman of sales until 2011 and is the chairman of the Yacht Division since 2014. Previously, he had experience as a salesperson in other luxury companies. The total remuneration for 2021 was 1.5 million.

Carla Demaria (Executive Director): With more than 35 years of experience. She is the CEO of the Bluegame Division. She has a tremendous experience in different yacht companies such as Beneteau and Azimut Benetti. The total remuneration for 2021 was 0.6 million.

Ferruccio Rossi. CEO of the superyacht division. He has previous experience in the Ferreti group and joined SL in 2014. He is selling a lot of shares.

Attilio Bruzzese. He is the CFO of the group and has previous experience in Beneteau and Azimut Benetti.

Capital allocation

For 2023 and 2024, it is expected a Capex of around € 50M, which will be around 6% of the revenue. So, there will be a great free cash flow conversion. On top of that, the balance sheet position is very solid. That is why it is important to see where the company will allocate these funds.  From this 50M, if market conditions do not change, we estimate around € 35M to enlarge the operating capacity, in line with the previous years.

They have already mentioned that M&A is not a priority although they are open to opportunities that they can easily access with their great financial position and access to liquidity.

During the last months, they have been repurchasing shares, totaling a 0.35% of the total shares. We can not expect much more due to the reduced free float. We also expect a large increase in dividends for the next year.

Sanlorenzo Valuation

We have used two different approach to value SanLorenzo. Here we present the comparable approach and next 27th January we will include the DCF. We proceed this way as we analysed SanLorenzo to test our investment thesis (and position in the portfolio) in The Italian Sea Group.

The Italian Sea Group & Sanlorenzo backlogs yacht investment thesis

As we see, the ratio of Gross Backlog / Revenue increased in 2021 for SanLorenzo, and presumably, it will maintain for 2022. This can mean either that the average length has increased or that the number of yachts in the pipeline has increased, in both cases, it is great news as it improves visibility.

This number is smaller compared to TISG because the average length of SL yachts is 35,8 mt and 54,7 mt for TISG. We are not worried about the decrease in the TISG ratio as revenues include the selling of Lamborghini 63 which has a payment schedule that does not translate into a big increase in backlog, a 25% Downpayment. That is why the percentage of revenue in TISG is always higher than the percentage of backlog. Both have had superior growth compared to the industry but due to the lower scale of TISG, the company led by Mr. Constantino has grown at an even higher rate. We can also observe a huge expansión of the EBITDA margin (note that super yacht represent a considerable higher percentage of the TISG’s backlog over the SL one).  As we explain in the conclusion, we think that both companies will continue with this growth in the margin but TISG will have a higher expansion.

TISG.MI SL.MI investment thesis Moram

  • Country risk: Despite the international operations of the company, the fact of being under Italian legislation is a risk due to the instability of Italian politics
  • Operating capacity: Specifically in the super yacht segment. Right now, they can cover 2023 with 90% of their capacity. So, assuming a further increase in sales, they need to increase their operating capacity. They are mitigating this risk acquiring facilities close to its shipyards to be able to growth in this segment.
  • Adaptation of newly acquired facilities and organization. With the huge experience of the management, this shouldn´t be a problem.
  • a) UHNWI are not as sensitive as the rest of the world to recession. Moreover, the current demand is much higher than the production capacity of the shipyards.
  • b) Flexible cost base and a wide range of suppliers
  • c) Great backlog which allows visibility for the next years and limited risk as yachts are produced as offers come in

Conclusion about Sanlorenzo

We can conclude that the company analyzed is a high-quality business in which we can be calmed in terms of revenues and margins in case of a recession thanks to the impressive backlog, the flexibility in the model, and the sound balance sheet position.

In the following months, we would like to see a use of cash (apart from the high increase in dividend we expect) to take profit from this market situation, an increase in the weight of Superyachts in the revenue mix, and further development of the service line that can contribute in a more recurrent way.

Despite this, we consider at the current prices The Italian Sea Group represents a bigger market opportunity for the following reasons:

  • We think that thanks to the larger yacht production and the recurring revenues from Refit, TISG will have higher resilience to a recession.
  • SL market cap is 4x TISG. When SL made 300 million in sales the EBITDA margin was way tighter than TISG´s. Once they benefit from larger economies of scale and thanks to the point abovementioned, we think TISG could close the gap in the EBITDA margin (15,5 vs 17,6 expected in 2022).
  • The valuation is less demanding. EV/EBITDA for 2022 is 7,6 for TISG and 9,2 for SL.

Following the comparison with TISG, from SL we appreciate the larger track record from management and the great net cash position of the company led by Mr. Perotti. Although it is worth mentioning that the net debt position for TISG is due to the Perini Navi acquisition (which has been transformational for TISG, and  we suspect that SL could not get due to the commented reduce space within its facilities to build large megayachts as it has TISG). With all, we will continue to look closely at this company and take the chance in case the company trades at a valuation with more margin of safety.

Surprise Yacht | 63' Offshore 2008

The present, and only second owner of this yacht, purchased the vessel in 2020 from the original owner who was meticulous in his maintenance and upgrading of the vessel. Having purchased the yacht in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition, the new owner proceeded to upgrade the vessel with an eye toward extended, fuel conserving cruising independently from marinas and shore services.

The yacht can be comfortably anchored for extended periods with full hotel services including air conditioning and cooking without running either of the two electrical generators.

This amazing and rare 62' Flush Deck Model boasts 4 staterooms; 1 King, 2 Queens, and a bunk cabin/office. The 3 VIP cabins all have ensuite heads. This yacht also has the desirable full height engine room.

Imagine every logical option that an experienced yachtsman would want aboard and you will find it on "Surprise"
