Both the hull and the deck is made of fibreglass. Generally, a hull made of fibreglass requires only a minimum of maintenance during the sailing season. And outside the sailing season, just bottom cleaning and perhaps anti-fouling painting once a year - a few hours of work, that's all.

La Rochelle Saint-Malo, a beautiful cruise in Maxus 26

Philippe and Beatrice will be taking their new Maxus 26 on a beautiful cruise from La Rochelle to Saint-Malo. The opportunity to validate the concept of this cruiser with a surprising habitable volume and to confirm their choice of the right options.

Philippe and Beatrice have just taken over their new Maxus 26, which becomes their third yacht. After an Ocqueteau Volume 500 (5 m) and a Dufour T6 (6 m), they take the plunge and offer themselves a "big" boat. " It's the first time we've been able to stand in our booth "raves Philippe.

Looking for a simple sailboat

If the habitable volume was a criterion in the choice of this model, simplicity was also chosen. Thus the Maxus 26 was chosen with very few options. It is an integral dinghy version with an outboard motor. Although most Maxsus 26s are sold with an inboard engine , Philippe preferred an outboard . His experience on his previous boats already equipped with an outboard motor convinced him of this rather atypical choice. What's more.., the outboard is easier to maintain " adds Philippe.

The boat is equipped with the mast goat to facilitate handling. The simplicity of the manoeuvre that can be carried out without forcing by the couple was also chosen. " As we intended to take the canals, with the goat no need for a crane when we pass the first bridge, we can dismantle ourselves without outside assistance. For the wintering, we take the boat out of the water and store it ashore dismasted. This goat will serve us well! ". During navigation, this stainless steel triangle stays flat on the deck and serves as a foot wedge during manoeuvres on the foredeck.

As for electrical consumers, they are reduced to a minimum on board since this yacht has no fridge. Just an electronic control unit (log, speedo sounder) and a portable GPS.

However, performance under sail has not been forgotten and this couple, who have been sailing for a long time, have chosen to take on board a gennaker for downwind sailing in light airs.

Want to cross Brittany through the canals

The boat was delivered in La Rochelle to Catway, the distributor of the Polish shipyard. Hence the cruise that follows, to bring her back to Saint-Malo, her home port, a sea and river cruise.

" We had decided to go through the Vilaine and the Canal de l'Ile et Rance. We wanted to take advantage of this "land" navigation which avoids us to go around Brittany by sea ."

So they left on July 10. After successive stages at sea (Les Sables-d'Olonne, Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie, Ile d'Yeu, Noirmoutier, Piriac), they arrived on July 20th at the entrance to the Vilaine in Arzal.

Sailing at sea is done with good weather at first, but it gradually deteriorates. So much so that the crew is stuck in Piriac to let a gale pass. But finally Arzal is reached without damage.

And the crew is pleased to have chosen the inland waterways, because during the second part of the cruise, while they are well sheltered inland, the bad weather would not have been favourable for navigation at sea.

62 locks later, it is the 1 er august that the sailboat takes its quarters in Saint-Malo. The cruise lasted 20 days in total, without encountering any problems. A nice navigation for a new boat.

The advantage of the dinghy

The Canal de l'Ile et Rance is normally dredged to 1.20 m. But this summer, with the help of drought, there were sometimes only 60 cm left in the diversion bays. If the Maxus 26 had not been a dinghy version (it is available with a twin keel, keelboat and lifting keel), there is no doubt that it would have remained stuck. " Because of the drought, even drifting up to 3/4, we hit several times, one of them quite violently in the rocks of the Vilaine. But the construction is solid, we just had a bit of epoxy resin to do at the time of the wintering. "

Without a dinghy, there's no way through. On the other hand, sailing with a high centreboard is not easy. Indeed, some manoeuvres are risky, especially certain lock passages when the wind is strong. The boat slides on the water and you have to keep it on the axis. " But with Beatrice, we've always managed. "

Good for the speedboat

" If I had to do it all over again, I'd order the same boat, with the same options.. ", Philippe slips us. "At times, I i wondered if an inboard engine might be more appropriate. Indeed when there is wind and sea, the outboard tends to pull the propeller out of the water, even though we opted for an ultra-long shaft. In order to avoid getting stuck in these conditions and keep going, I've asked Catway for a third reef. That way, I can always sail , no matter how strong the wind is. The engine is only used for the entrance to the harbour. "

And that river navigation confirmed to him that he had made the right choice. " In Evran, a little before Dinan, the canal was polluted by Elodean algae. We managed to cross this area by raising the engine every 500 m to clear it of the algae. Impossible with an inboard! ".

A Maxus as a tugboat!

" Due to the lack of water in the river , we didn't meet many people. At the most we crossed 2 to 3 boats a day. On the other hand, we helped Julien Moreau, an "eco-adventurer" who was touring Brittany on paddle . He needed our help to get through the locks. Indeed, the lock keepers didn't want to let him pass alone on his board. On the other hand, it was possible with our boat. "

Teen seriously injured when boat crashes into Lake Michigan pier

OTTAWA COUNTY, MI – A woman suffered serious injuries late Wednesday, Aug. 14, when the boat she was riding in struck the south pier on Lake Michigan near Holland State Park.

The woman, 18, was thrown into the water and rocks on the channel side of the pier and was rescued by another boat passenger, Ottawa County sheriff’s deputies said.

The teen suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash happened around 10:15 p.m.

A 69-year-old Holland man was operating a 26-foot boat when it crashed into the south pier about 75 yards east of the navigational beacon at the end of the pier, police said.

The injured woman was thrown into the channel that leads to Lake Macatawa.

She and two other woman, ages 19 and 22, all from Holland, were on the boat.

Sheriff’s deputies and Park Township firefighters responded to a report of a boat crash with one person in the water. One of the passengers had already pulled the injured woman out of the water.

She was taken by AMR Ambulance to Holland Hospital. The crash remains under investigation, police said.

The "On the Floor" singer filed for divorce from the actor on Aug. 20 after more than two years of marriage, according to the filing obtained by multiple outlets.

However, J.Lo revealed in the court documents that the couple actually broke up almost four months ago, listing their date of separation as April 26. That same day, Jennifer was photographed leaving her New York apartment, dressed casually in baggy jeans, a beige pullover, an oversized black Birkin bag, platform shoes and large hoop earrings.   

Just 10 days later, she raised eyebrows when she stepped out at the 2024 Met Gala solo —sparking rumors that she and Ben were having issues. At the time, his rep shared that he was in Los Angeles to film The Accountant 2.

Neither star has publicly spoken about what led to the breakup. E! News has reached out to their reps and hasn't received a comment.

In her divorce documents, J.Lo asked the court to deny spousal support to both her and Ben, per TMZ . 

As for why she decided to wait four months to officially file for divorce? She may have been holding out for a significant date, as Aug. 20 marks her second wedding anniversary with the Batman star.

6 Missing After Yacht Sinks in Sicily Presumed Dead as Sources Say Passengers Had Been Celebrating Before Storm

The six people who remain missing after a luxury yacht sank off the coast of Sicily during a storm are presumed dead by many of the investigators, local sources tell PEOPLE, though authorities haven't yet commented on that.

The Bayesian , a 183-foot vessel, capsized early on Monday, Aug. 19, while moored about a half mile from the the coast of Porticello, according to a statement from the Italian coast guard, previously obtained to PEOPLE.

A source close to the survivors tells PEOPLE the yacht had traveled from the Aeolian Islands to celebrate the recent acquittal of British technology entrepreneur Mike Lynch , who is among the missing.

Lynch recently went to trial, and won, after he was was accused of financial fraud in connection to the sale of Autonomy, a business software company Lynch founded, to Hewlett-Packard in 2011.

“That's why he took his closest friends and colleagues on the trip,” the source adds.

The other missing passengers include New York City-based lawyer Christopher Morvillo , who helped Lynch get acquitted, and his wife Neda, as well as Morgan Stanley International chairman Jonathan Bloomer and his wife.

Lynch’s daughter Hannah is also missing, although his wife, Angela Bacares, is one of the 15 passengers who were rescued in the aftermath of the tragedy.

Although the search is still ongoing, local sources tell PEOPLE that many of the investigations believe they are presumed to be trapped in the hold or in their cabins. (Authorities have yet to comment on this and have only referred to the individuals as missing.)

The Bayesian still appears to be intact as it lays on its right side in about 160 feet of water, according to Reuters . Due to the depth, crews only have about 8 to 10 minutes to search before resurfacing.

A senior source at the Italian fire brigade which is in charge of the underwater rescue efforts tells PEOPLE that crews have “managed to get to the berth and to the living room, which was full of debris and cables.”

So far, they say teams have looked through portholes and “have not seen any people trapped inside,” despite some reports. 

Currently, crews are attempting to “find ways of lighting up the inside of the vessel” to help them “properly” search for the missing.

The senior fire official says five additional expert diving units “have arrived in Sicily to help with the emergency,” and 15 people are working around the clock to try and find the individuals.

“It's a very long job,” the senior official explains, noting that there are “physical limits” to what crews can do underneath the water’s surface. “At most, it is a 15 minute segment — and that includes going up and going down. And then they need time to recover.”

Marco Tilotta, a diver with the local fire department, previously said it has been “difficult” to access the hull, which is “a world of objects” inside, according to the BBC . Navigating the narrow spaces, he added, “is a really hard and difficult job.”

However, the diver emphasized, "we are not stopping."

Added Tilotta, “We have resources, manpower and means. Our goal is to find all the people who are missing, so that is our job.”
